I agree with you about the Canon G50 4K footage requiring a powerful computer to edit, however you can re-encode the 4K footage to 1080p and it will still look better than if you recorded in regular hi-def.
Thats a great point! However, I've just always been of the mindset if I'm spending the money on a camera I want to get the most out of it. There are a lot of 1080p cameras with larger sensors on the market that will do better if you want to go that route.
@@buckeyebowhunterwhat kind of specs do you need? I’m running windows with i5 and 12GB ram.
Nice job on the video. You got a sub out of this. Consider getting an insta360 one RS for your second angle shots. I really like shooting, filming and editing with mine. I also really like the using the tactacam 6.0 and the 5.0 wide with remote. That setup works great for me. Keep up the good work!
Thank you I really appreciate it!
Hey Buckeye….how are you liking that G50 a few years in? I “blew up” my G21 on a hunt this December on a late season when my crossbow limb hit when opening on a shot. (Crossbow. Yes- I can’t use a compound due to an injury so please don’t judge.) I was thinking of getting the G40 because of the 1080/60 but was also considering jumping to the G70. I’ve been looking right past the G50 as shooting in 4K, except for the cropping, seems almost overkill for UA-cam. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Nothing wrong with a crossbow! So I upgraded last fall to a mirrorless with bigger lenses just to up the quality. Unfortunately I don’t run the G50 anymore. There isn’t a real noticeable difference imo between 1080 and the 4k the G50 puts out. It’s so limited by the sensor size and lense size I would say go with the g40 cause all your really getting is much larger files with the g50 and storage is expensive. If your looking to up the video quality larger lenses and sensors = better detail and quality especially in low light situations. I’m not too experienced with the g70 but I now shoot with a Sony a7s3. Feel free to PM me on instagram if you have more questions.
@@buckeyebowhunter thanks for getting back to me Buckeye. You have some real money stuck into that Sony. I did end up with the G40. For now this is going to be my camera for this year and Turkey season along with a Sony ZV1 and my action/ 360 cameras. Does your new Sony have a Lanc remote?
Great vid, man. Exactly what I was looking for. Currently using a Sony CX-900 and am thinking about the leap to 4k.
Thanks for the comment and happy to help! It's worth it in my opinion just be prepared for the storage and computer upgrades that come with!
Great stuff man. I’m just getting into the tree stand filming and this was helpful
Glad to help! If you have any questions I didn’t answer let me know
Great video, subscribed! Just getting our channel started and it's a commitment but we are motivated. Enjoyed watching and learning, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Hey! Thank you and happy to help. Filming and editing is definitely a commitment but is beats working lol! I subscribed to your channel as well.
Man this is some good stuff, getting started myself and I have a Cannon Vixa 800 HD, like you mentioned the lower end cameras shoot some nice video but your very limited. All your controls for instance are manual meaning you have to grab the camera to zoom etc. But for me to get started I already had the camcorder at home and will make an arm system for it myself and give it a shot
Awesome man! Thanks for watching. I always urge guys to do exactly that. Use what you have and get good with it before spending half your savings on top end equipment. I have some decent camera equipment but only because I've been at it for a while
@captainjoesanglingadventur4894 If you camera has a LANC port you can add a Varizoom to your base handle and address all those focus and zoom issues.
Thanks for the info. Going to try a nikon 5200 dslr this year. Go Blue!
You got it! Good luck this year.
I run the g70 damn near identical but they shoot clean video
I was sold on a DSLR until I watched this video. Subscribed!
Happy to help! Don’t get me wrong DSLRs are capable of some amazing footage I just love the point and shoot aspects of a camcorder especially as a self filmer.
this was so good! thank you!
Absolutely! Happy to help
I love your videos and I am ready to step up from my Canon Vixia HF 800 handicam. I am looking at the Canon Vixia HF G70. I just can't afford the XA60 or XA70. The filming I do for my hunting UA-cam channel is very similar to what you do. My biggest concern is shooting in low light. I am assuming that the G50 and G70 are fairly similar. What are your thoughts about how your G50 works in low light situations to video your hunts? Curt WhiteTALES Deer Hunting
Hey curt! The Vixias have a pretty large sensor and my 50 has been really good in low light for the most part. If you wanted any better you’d have to move to a mirrorless or dslr for a larger lense. Keep up the awesome work and let me know what you go with
@@buckeyebowhunter TY Josh. I appreciate the first hand knowledge. I am at that point where I want to continue doing this but the quality of my Vixia handicam is not keeping up with the time I put in videotaping and editing. This is just a hobby so I am going to stick with the G70. I have watched many of your videos and love the quality of video you get with your G50.
Great video brother! 🤙
Thank you! Appreciate the comment!
Great info. Been wanting to film also. Goin to try insta 360.
Let me know how you like it cause I’ve been wanting one
@@buckeyebowhunter I recently got the insta go 2 to capture clips. So far it’s great for what it is
Where did you find your lens hood on the m41?
Somewhere on Amazon lol. If I find it I’ll send it to ya
@@buckeyebowhunter Alright Preciate it
Again great video, and very informative. Just was wondering if the camera remote that you have in your description (Wired LANC Remote) is compatible with the Canon Vixia HF M41 camera. Thanks!
Thank you! I do not believe it does unless it has a remote plug in. I think you have to use the canon wireless remote with those.
I think you have to use this one. I have this one for mine and use to just zip tie it to the fluid head handle. Worked great

@@buckeyebowhunter Thanks for the info, I really appreciate your time!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
what is the name & model of your remote for your G50 ?
I put a link in the video description.
Thinking of getting the m41, besides the camera can you send me Amazon links with the whole setup you would use with it like the fluid head, sound, etc? And great video just subscribe
I made my own Tripod for my G50 with my monitor HDMI
What setting do you run when filling hunts?
How did you mount that shotgun mic further back on the XA50?
It’s a HF G50
Great video! Just subscribed and followed you on Insta!
Thank you! Really appreciated. Followed back!
