  • The perfect weekend car is not as straight forward as you might think. It cannot be too expensive, too impractical, too slow, too fast, too loud, too quiet, too noticeable, or too bland. It has to be just right. So what do you get? Well, Porsche may have the answer with the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0.

    After waiting 15 months for an allocation, I am to receive my 2024 in May so I am selling my 2021 GTS 4.0. I really love the way the Boxster handles, it's the best summer car out there. Agate grey metallic exterior. The naturally aspirated flat six engine is truly one of Porsche's finest.

      Why did you upgrade your 2021 to a 2024? Isn’t it pretty much the same thing? Just curious

      @@GoldPlatedCheese I originally bought a 2019 Boxster S with the 2.5 L 4 cylinder turbo engine. Loved it so much, I ordered a Boxster GTS 4.0 with a two year wait. I found the 2021 GTS 4.0 as an interim vehicle with the lovely naturally aspirated flat six. The 2024 is our custom order with all the options, colours, etc. of our choosing. I think it will be a collector's item as the last internal combustion engine once the 718 goes EV in 2025.

    Ordered one earlier this year and found this one during my daily search for new GTS4.0 vids, I’m pretty sure that I watched absolutely every single one out there 😂
    Cannot agree more, the things that tempted me were the relatively good value in comparison to other Porsche sports cars and potential small depreciation and then I totally fell in love with this concept after test driving the Boxster T and finally ordered the GTS 4.0 without even driving it since my local Porsche Center didn’t have the demo.
    Couple of months later I took part in Porsche Experience: Porsche on Track event. On one hand I was happy that I’ll finally drive the 718 GTS 4.0 and see for what am I waiting, but on the other I was afraid that driving the 911 (never drove one before) will totally ruin my experience, will make me feel that I chose the wrong car and maybe eventually change the order. Fortunately it was quite the opposite - don’t get me wrong, the 911 is an incredibly capable car, I’d even say that its limits are way further than in case of 718, it’s also way more confidence inspiring, but at the same time it was just boring and lacked fun. The handling was incredible, but I just felt like the car did everything for me and I didn’t really like it. Maybe it looks different for GT models, but 992 C2/C4S/C4GTS/Turbo S that I drove were just a big disappointment from the fun standpoint. At the same time the 718 GTS 4.0 turned out to be brilliant - it adressed all of the painpoints of base engine 718 - way better sound, way higher power output and above all perfect throttle response and power delivery and also my doubts have been resolved - I didn’t feel the low-end torque deficit that I was afraid of in the N/A car as I’m used to turbocharged ones and didn’t feel the difference in weight, it handled just as good as the T model.
    I had an allocation for November, but due to problems in VAG factories they cancelled it and now I have one for February and really hope that this time everything will go smoothly, because in case it won’t I will have to look for the used one, because I just won’t give upon it, after all of those tests I’m totally sure that this car is the EXACT answer to what I’ve been looking for - just pure, condensed fun giving unlimited smiles per gallon that is actually usable as daily outside of winter time.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  6 місяців тому +1

      So crazy that you started by driving the T. The Boxster / Cayman T is the next trim down I would buy. I love that car, just a bit more special than the base and much more thoughtfully designed.
      I haven't had the opportunity to drive 911's on track at all, but I have had some spirited driving in both and I agree. The 718, for me personally, is a more engaging experience. The GTS feels amazing, you never want to get out of the driver's seat and if Porsche does in fact discontinue the flat 6 it will be sorely missed.

    Saw a dyno run with this car after a tune- 440 hp! This is what I’m getting next year. Trading in my 981 BS for it. I love the 981 but the 3.4 just doesn’t feel that fast unless you really ring its neck and I’d rather have the torque of the 4.0 engine around town.

    Traded in my 2021 Cayman S for a '24 Boxter GTS 4.0 and WOW what a difference that engine makes. I also own a 2018, 911 Targa 4S and truth be told, if I could keep only one, it just might be the Boxter, the car is superb!

    • @user-gn7qc2lq8b
      @user-gn7qc2lq8b 6 місяців тому +2

      That is a reasonable question and I cannot be certain if it is the case. I love the Targa and I was very fortunate to get it with 800 miles on it . . . it has 11K now. The Targa drives more like a GT car and the Boxter, more like a "true" sports car to me. So, I am blessed by not having to keep only one. Thanks for your question. @@carcaveofficial

    The 718 EV is not a rumour, Porsche Europe already said it’s the end of ICE. The 4.0 GTS is the last N/A 718. 718 Spyder/GT4 are already discontinued. Today not even mainstream 911 have a N/ A engine. Grab a 718 GTS 4.0 N/A while you still can…when they’re gone, they’re gone…

    Weekend? That is a sweet daily drive! Value retention only matters to people that do not drive the car. Sure, might resale better than a Toyota, but if you drive it and enjoy it, likely the depreciation will be the least of your concerns. And values are high today, who knows in 5 years.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  6 місяців тому +2

      Not many weekend cars make good daily's and not many daily's make good weekend cars. This just happens to do both!
      I get what you mean about the value retention, but it can't hurt to have a car that holds value just in case. Never know what's going to happen, and having your money safe in the car is a nice benefit

    Most people are paying mark-ups on these (including GT4 and Spyders). So MSRP is not an accurate measuring stick for depreciation.
    Average mark-up over the last year has been 10-20k.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  4 місяці тому

      Mark-ups definitely play a factor, however, I try to base all of my information off the most consistent numbers. Mark-ups change too often, and I run the risk of putting out 'old' info. MSRP is the only metric that will be consistent long term.

Even in the 2.5 flat four S model, it is more fun than most drivers can really appreciate or comprehend. Move up the ladder to the brilliant 4.0L flat six and the engine notes become something akin to wrestling Satan himself.
