I love my silver low miles 718 Boxster, Its a rest of my life car
Exactly @@ralfulrich6254
@@ralfulrich6254 I really wont, I dont want an EV Ive picked this to drive a looong time 🙂
Thankyou for letting me know it's low miles. Really changes alot
What’s the mileage have to do with anything, anyone ever tell you not to be a dick all your life.
I think he means because it's low miles it will last for ages
Hi Matt, I actually think this is probably one of the best cars you can buy and if I ever have enough money I will get one I think it looks fantastic I think the build quality is off the chart. Maybe one day hopefully cheers Phil from Newark
As always a superb witty review. My 718 is a 2019, with 20 inch wheels; had almost three years and it’s covered 20K now. It’s a third car and a bit of a garage Queen but I’ve had no issues at all. Serviced at Porsche Silverstone who are excellent. It’s fast enough for normal roads and even at five years old it turns heads. Keep it, honestly you won’t regret it.
I have a 2009 Kia Rio. Manual windows and manual locking. Cheap, flimsy and plasticky but I love it! The best car in the world. I would have anything else.
Good to see you got the EV out of your blood and back🔙 to serious stuff Matt 👍💯
As he mentioned at the end of his latest EV review, the Tesla isn’t for him and he’ll keep is supercharged Range Rover so I’m not sure if an EV was ever in his blood?
Calm down
Weather you like it or not EV is the way it’s going get used to it
@@Renwick19 Says who? We're nowhere near ready with the infrastructure for EVs. They depreciate like crazy, an accident and they're write-offs. And they pollute indirectly to the point that they're not any more environmentally friendlier than ICE cars. And most of all, EVs are appliances, boring cars for soulless boring people.
But its a automatic!!!!! That's like going to kfc but buying a tofu salad.
Hi Matt good to see some Porsche content, I’ve had a 987 and a 981 , and currently have a 718S manual, all the power you need great fun to drive on UK roads.
Why the upgrade to the 718?
The 718 is definitely a fun and practical sports car (never thought I’d put those two words together). Although maintenance is pricey the maintenance intervals are well spaced and they are reliable cars. 💯worth owning one.
At 9:46 Expect to have your trousers pulled down.....Good to see the sense of humour back in full swing😆
Only a rich person gets their Porsche serviced at main dealer after the warranty runs out. Any reasonable local garage can service this car adequately.
@@coops1964correct, it’s the golf r/audi s3 engine!
@@dwdrum11 when did they start fitting a flat four to the Golf and S3?
@@stevethomas6247 my bad! Should’ve done research before commenting 😂😂🤦♂️
It's a really nice car, but try one with a six cylinder engine ! The added sound really makes it great.
six cylinders and a manual gear box!
The 981 boxster is the older alternative. Been eyeing up between the 981 cayman or a aston martin vantage
Have you heard this one, particularly on tick over? It growls, I know its probably acoustically generated but nevertheless.
And bring along an extra bar of gold when purchasing.
..3.2 Flat six howl 💙
Addictive ..
I think they are a stunning sports car. A good example of Matt.
Beautiful all round car. Might be pound for pound one of the best value cars. For less than 35k. Speed, style, handling etc.
It certainly is fantastic value!!
Especially when you consider that, if you choose the right model and spec, it will not depreciate - the 6 cylinder will only appreciate over time.
Get yourself a 981.. an S feels much more powerful than the base.
I bought mine, a 2014 model at 2 1/2 years old from Porsche. I paid £42,000 for it. As soon as I drove it out of Porsche, the value dropped by £5k (that's dealership premium).
So 8 years ago the car was worth £37,000 if I wanted to sell it then. And guess what!!.. in recent weeks on AutoTrader, similar spec'ed cars are going for pretty much spot on the same price, so no loss in 8 years.
Over time, the 6 cylinders will hold onto their value far better than the 4 cylinders. Today a 2014 981 is a very similar price to a 2016 718.. a 2 year age difference. That price difference will only grow.
"That's lovely, that's first class" I mean it's not five star but it's certainly competitive 👍
You know your onions
@@charliesmithers7663 not my words, Charlie. The words of Shakin' Stevens.
Keep ‘em coming Matt😂
Just had my Miami Blue 718 delivered on Friday, this is the first Porsche I've owned after other open top sports cars including R172 SLK 55 which was very fast in a straight line. The only down side were the bends in the road but no such issues with the 718 after my first outing into mid Wales proved. Running costs aren't that bad, 156 miles averaged 39.4 mpg, Insurance £330 with Churchill and RFT £190. Servicing every 2 years alternating £750 then £1500 which considering that the engine is only accessible from underneath and hidden behind a multitude panels its more competitive than say a Vantage. One thing you really do have to watch are the pot holes when running on 20" Carrera Sport alloys, mind you it certainly shows how lightening fast the steering is dodging them!! PS my other motor is LR90 P300 ..... seems we a similar taste in cars.
Great colour
Probably the one I was going to look at.. Are you going to keep the stripes?
@@rayclarke5367Hi Ray…. No strips on this one, it was Transported up from Porsche Bournemouth to Worcester, didn’t see one with strips being advertised…. Keep looking there are few for sale, my only suggestion would be buy one that is stuffed with as many options as possible….. happy hunting.
@@HighPeakAutosHi Matt …. It certainly gets noticed, not too sure if that’s such a good thing though.

"Expect to have your trousers pulled down" is a good thing from time to time! lol Solid review! I'm an owner of a dealer spec'd 718S manual and it's money well spent!
A friend of mine was looking at buying an RX8, I explained to him that the price was a little under Boxter prices and he wouldn't have to buy more oil every week, he took my advice and bough the Boxter and never looked back!
Did your friend's Boxster not come with rear view mirrors??

Hey Matt, what a pretty car. I’m sure this won’t be on the forecourt for long. Nice watch too…..☀️
Glad you've bonded with it, Matt. Does it give you butterflies?
The flat-six is synonymous with a Porsche... the sound of that engine makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. It would have to be a 911 for me ❤
The flat is intrinsically Porsche but I love the flat six characters and 981 is on my drive, those who lust after Turbocharged Porsche the flat four 718 is up your alley. There’s a Porsche for everyone, from air cooled to water 💦 cooled just keep calm and enjoy your Porsche.
Totally agree. I don't think i'd bother with the 911 either if I was spending my own hard earned money. Glad to hear saying that 300bhp is plenty, especially in a world of UA-camrs driving around in 700bhp monsters and probably having to feather the throttle everywhere.
They're great, aren't they? Everything you need to enjoy a drive, and nothing more...
On which note, the climate control isn't actually climate control in the car you tested. Its air conditioning. Climate control (a cost-option - what else?) introduces the two-zone temperature set-and-forget controls you were missing, which adds the temperature display (left & right) to the control panel.
Whatever the options you have, the Boxster makes you feel special. And that's bang on for a sporty second car.
You've got a knack for this, loving your content!
That he has !!
I agree,he could be a decent UA-camr one day!
yeah he got a knickers for sure!
Just bought a 2024 style edition and it’s a blast to drive!!!
They are beautiful cars
Absolutely spot on with the comparison.. the only aspect overlooked are the classic looks of the pure unblemished 911.. iconic classic, work of art.
You’ve touched on an important point about the market. People are fooling themselves when it comes to very high performance cars - that performance is, practically, unusable. I’ve lived in many countries (including Germany) and even on the unrestricted stretches of autobahn, anything over 120mph is dangerous (I should know, on a fairly clear stretch doing 140mph, a guy doing about 50 pulled out into my lane: bang!) let alone illegal enough for one offence to get you banned. A neighbour has just swapped his MX5 for an Audi R8 V10. I wonder how long it’ll before he realises he probably had more fun in the MX5? 😀. Light, agile cars have given me much more pleasure than the hugely powerful ones I’ve had.
Excellent presentation as usual I love watching HighPeakAutos for your indeph knowledge on the different car marques...
StaySafe 2ALL
👍🤜🏽
Love watching you razzing around my favourite Peak District roads in a decent sports car. Porsche are renowned for their conservative styling or evolution in their words. Its probably why Porsche fans don't like too much change.
My first "proper" performance car was a 981 2.7 2013 6 cyl Boxster when I was 23. Still has a special place in my car history...probably the best handling car I've ever owned & I've had quite a few great cars. Currently I own a 2023 RS5 Vorsprung coupe
Really wanted to go for a Boxster but for the age, mileage and a 6 pot I simply couldn't afford the car I wanted.
My personal mindset is, if looking at cars like this have the car you really want or simply stay clear
I too prefer the Boxster, although owning a 911 myself. But only those with all the cylinders and a manual gearbox
You've convinced me. I'd love one as a second car. Don't know many Porsche owners but there is a kind of geeky, nerdy snobbery about some of them - "The Boxster isn't a real Porsche" is a line I've heard more than once.
Love the Boxster I have had 3. Cannot afford to run one now unfortunately and yes main dealer servicing is pricey
the styling is magnificent. one of the most gorgeous designs of recent years
I hope to own one of these in the future, they are a perfect example of a sports car.
Always loved those cars 😊 they remind me of a Audi tt. Both cars are an absolute classic 😊 sports car 😊
These days the car industry is focused on big figures and stats that look good on paper but are unusable in the real world, they forgot what fun is. This car is like an anomaly, perfect size, perfect amount of power, great looks. Unicorn. It's modern but old school. Perfect
Your best review in a while, Matt.... Top of the class, a☆
‘Expect to have your trousers pulled down” 😂
Nice car. I like that it doesn’t tell you how hot it is or the exact position of the seat. Old school. I can’t afford one but still nice. I’ll need to stick with my Mini Roadster, which can take very tall people as it’s a 2 seater Mini convertible.
My dad had the boxster T with ceramic brakes one of the only ones in the UK. Amazing car ordered a 911 once sold and cancelled that as he couldn’t justify the difference between the boxster and 911. Great cars 👍🏼
I remember when the 987 Boxster was around, I read a piece stating that, £ for £, the best sports car money could buy was the Boxster. Although the writer did say they almost gave it to the MX-5, and said that it was because a good sports-car doesn't need 5 thousand bhp and be able to embarrass Ferrari's and Lambo's, it just has to be an absolute riot on a B-Road. A sports car just has to be fun. The Boxster is like the MX-5; they're never not brilliant sports cars, and being fairly affordable just makes them better.
I'm not normally a fan of silver but the 917 looks good.
Not really..😢 986 S is brill.
917?? Le Mans supercar!!
Love the Boxster/Cayman. I know it's got nothing to do with this, but I saw an Alpine A110 in the flesh the other day. OMG, beautiful!
Hi Matt, great review as always. The temperature controls for AC are only available on cars with two-zone climate control, which - you guessed it - is an optional extra. What your car has is the standard air conditioning.
glad to see you have come to your senses , by all means buy the servants an eletric milk float it will save on the champagne but keep the v8 for yourself
Thank you for such an enthusiastic and fair review of this great car. The light weight and waves of torque make it, plus, as you rightly pointed out fantastic real world economy. For everyday driving the flat 4s are king, with the turbo boosted torque making them super nippy. I love my 4.0 GTS too though, with added flat 6 wail up to 8000 revs 😁
Generally I agree with you, and this time I have a different opinion slightly. Definitely the 718 if you think with your head, but if your heart rules then it’s got be 981 Boxster as the sound from the exhaust note completes the whole package. And both are similar in price. And finally do not require going to Porsche main dealership, going to a Porsche specialist is good enough for me and potential buyers. Anyway great vid and agree Porsche boxster is all the Porsche you will ever need
My 981 Boxster S has been all the car I would ever want, tested a fair few 911's as well but nothing quite felt the same as the 981.
6 cylinders engines is one of the my favourite things about Porsche
£3000 for a exhaust system is a bridge to FAR, ? Good dream car, no complaints. Thanks for your test.
The dual climate control is an option... It works great... i bought my 2017 718 about a year ago. My 2nd boxter love it.
A fine car that, Matt. Gotta get one before they stop making them. Far more interior space (and cup holders!) than my current SLK R171.
You really have nailed this YT content-making lark. Hope you're still enjoying it. I know I am, far more than watching you drive that Tesla!
You might want to check your numbers on the previous gen 6 cyl Boxter 981 vs the 718 4cyl Turbo. The older car was actually a little bit lighter....
...oh yeah - and it had the nicer sounding flat 6 engine noise 🙂
Excellent review I found driving the 718 more fun than the faster, larger 911.
If I want a Subaru-sounding car, I'll buy a Subaru. I'll have a six cylinder Boxster thank you. ..but I'm with you on the 911 vs Boxster question. Boxster all day long. I prefer the siza of it, and mid engined over rear/sort of almost mid engined in the 911. ..and yes, they come a lot closer to being a car you can have fun with on the road, without going to jail.
Mark Labbet might struggle 😂😂, you do make me laugh out loud Matt
The best balance of visceral, driver focused experience with modern creature comforts, great performance and reliability is the 987.2 Boxster S!
Nice video Matt, I drove the base 718 with the pdk when in launched back in 2016 and absolutely loved it.I would love to drive the 2.5 L GTS. I,ve currently got a 987 2.7 L and loving the N/A manual car.
That's a nice watch, Matt. I had one that looked similar, an omega seamaster, that I sold on a whim and regretted it ever since. I recommend hanging on to it and just swap the strap or bracelet, if you want a change. I hang onto things now, including vehicles, because it's cheaper and quite satisfying.
that is a sweet looking boxster. i moved away from 2 seat cars , but that could tempt me especially at those used prices. great review matt.
I absolutely love my boxster had it over 8yrs best car I have ever owned it is a second car I have a q5 main car and berlingo van as my work vehicle
Excellent review - I fully concur with all your observations (I am a Boxster owner).
..Lovely car yea....
But i'l keep my 02 Boxster S custom😈 that howl at 4k is addictive oh my!
Also the stealth mode..nightdriving...Epic
4cylinders/ev....i'd rather pay more road tax
Another great video. But only you could get Citroen berlingo and Porche boxter in the same sentence 😂
One day, I will have one of these. They're not actually that expensive second-hand
Did you take it in the Cat & Fiddle? Macc to Buxton is my favourite direction, the road just flows lovely. Although there are a good couple of corners that test a car on that route from Sparrowpit you was on. I like the styling too.
Too many speed cameras around that area IMO. Northumberland or West Coast of Scotland are better for just getting a right old strop on.
Yes the back end is wonderful.
It shifted the market to develop more online options but agree that you need to kick tyres of a car. I've bought cars without seeing them, but only if they are low mileage and had been to a local dealer to try one like it,
I believe the original Boxster was intended to have a 4 cylinder, but it was cheaoer for financially troubled Porsche to use a version of their flat 6. Personally, I'd buy a late 3.4s 981
Too many people buy posh cars and forget about service and repairs. Forget badge snobbery, buy something you can afford to run. Great vid by the way!
Exactly this. These posh flash cars are just cheaply made rubbish. If you want a fast car, buy a proper car like a bigger engined Focus
You're really channelling the partridge vibes
I like the revised rear from light to light.
I live in the North East - according to all media news, an area of poverty, starving children and whippet racing. The number of these cars on the road and the car park of my local Co op is staggering.
😂
stop believing the media then, i live here too. same people turning up too food banks in same car don't believe what you read. 🤔
I live in the north east as well,(teesside) and I've never seen any.😎
I love this car . Been saving to get myself one. Looks beautiful
That get up and go isn’t due to lighter weight. It’s due to the much greater and more accessible torque of the turbo motor.
The Boxster has evolved beautifully over the years. Nice review. Thanks for sharing 🙏👍
I seriously love them and would like a small Boxter, theyre such good looking and cute! Great video and work as alays Matt! :D
5:43 that's just because that car only has manual A/C. Mine has 2-zones automatic A/C and you can set 22º as you like.
That specific car has very little extras I'm afraid.
Glad the videos are back to normal now; no more EV junk.
ye spot on with your comment Matt and nice car great colour looks stylish and like you say really all the power you need.. like the arbarth you had !
I think that I’ll stick to a 987 thanks, I just prefer the soundtrack - it’s a definite keeper!
A review with a GT4 or GT4 RS would be cool

The Alan partridge quotes alone will keep me watching 😂
Hahaha I can’t help myself
Im not a porshe purist but almost spat my tea out when you said they would spit their tea out of their Porsche cup my cup is a Land Rover one.
Very nice car...it's something I would consider changing my 135i coupe toy car for...quite pricey though
I had 135 cabriolet and 718 Boxster 2.0, Porsche too march better!!!!!!!
Great review. Great delivery. Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
Especially the pronunciation of the make. Who suddenly decided to call them Porscha . Other pretentious reviewers that’s who.
Looks nice... and, as you say, use all the available horses. :)
I definitely prefer the more angular looks of the latest Boxster, I found the original too rounded. Porsche famously made the Boxster and Cayman 'underpowered' compared to the 911, even though they knew the Boxster/Cayman chassis was better and could comfortably cope with more power.
Boxster is such a driver’s car!
You should try the new Model 3 Performance… combine EV with driving pleasure ;-)
I've had a 986 S and 987 S and have driven 911s. No doubt the Boxster handles better being mid engined. I would never buy the turbo though, 981 S would be the one I got next.
Looks like you've got standard air con without climate control, so no automatic fan/distribution/heat controls and no temperature display.
300 bhp is the sweet spot. As you observe, Matt, any more is unusable on UK roads. I get 260 from my 330i but very rarely do I wish it had more. I love a 6 pot but the fuel consumption is unacceptable for an everyday car.
Nice honest review Matty would you do a review of the Cayman one day?
911/997’s are £25-30k. Good point though I rarely use all its power, but I won’t lose any money on it and that’s the reason. Everyone knows a 911, it makes you feel good. Smiles for miles. Oh and a 6-pot sounds so much better, but it’s 22mpg all the time. Get a manual or you’ll get bored. Nice steering wheel in that boxster.
I think I'll stick with my 2021 2.0 ND2 MX5. Lighter, at least as good handling, much cheaper to buy and run, no turbo, and far more reliable.
And (subjectivity) better looking.
I love these.. infact at some point I need a 718 Boxter Spyder with the 4.0L n/a six cylinder or a 718 Spyder RS🤔they really lovely cars🏆
The reason why it doesn’t show the temperature in the AC is because this is not an automated thermostat, so it’s basically like a rotary thermostat without the rotary knob 😅
My sister probably has the lowest mileage boxter in the country. It goes to Asda once a week the gym about as often and that’s about it. She parks in the middle of nowhere in the car park so she doesn’t have to reverse 😅
Ok?
