Thanks, it’s good to have a couple of camping spots you can get to without a car. I think I’ll be using trangia stoves a bit more in future, especially when the weathers good. Love ‘em. TFW, atb, Graham 👍
For a guy with a phallis my length, I have great difficulty crossing that place John Wayne saddle bags style. As a kid and before the fence around the mine, I took the cover off the old shaft with a big monkey wrench taken from my dads shed which had all the gear for all operations. I dropped the steel sheet covering the shaft down the hole, it seemed to drop for ages before hitting the walls or levels below. I was wreckless in them days being a kid and entered other mines in my youth. Disclaimer, Its dangerous so dont enter any mines. Great video, a trip down memory lane, ATB.
I've only been in the area a few years so I don't remember the old pithead not having a fence around it. I read that the main shaft was a little over 200 metres deep, so anything would fall for ages. I did loads of slightly reckless stuff as well as a kid, I reckon most of us did 😂 I used to love exploring places I wasn't meant to be. Thanks Damian, ATB, Graham 👍
@@grahamswildcamping When about 20 years old, I went into a level just up from Bothal mill and from the Wannie waters edge heading north towards Pegswood. The level was modern brick to about 100m then earth with sleepers holding the earth up with tree roots coming in and a partial collapse meaning my friends and I weren't going any further. My washer was twitching meaning this is dangerous. We initially smashed our way in with hammers because it was blocked off with a thin brick wall easily overcome with brute force. With hindsight, and later in the local pub that night we got a lecture from former miners telling us the dangers of our adventures and they were right.
@@Fell_Wanderer What a story, sounds interesting. There's got to be loads of mine shafts and tunnels in the area. I've never ventured into any though. I think I would have stopped when the tunnel became earth and sleepers but it sound fascinating. I bet those old miners were well aware of the danger of such places and warned you off in the pub. Thanks Damian 👍
Thank you, it's a nice set up for a bit of a breeze and views from the tent. It was spodry I could have dispensed with the tarp as well that night, cheers Shaun 👍👍
Thanks, I really like the set-up for good weather as it gives you a bit protection from insects which a bivvy wouldn't. On that night it was so dry I could have dispensed with the tarp as well. ATB, Graham 👍
Nice little woodlands that Graham considering it was a mine in the past vegetation cocktail sausages and Scotch eggs are nice im not a vegetation but my wife is atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thanks Jimmy, it was a quiet little camp, very understated and just nice to be able to get out without using the car. I'd def try more veggy stuff. Thought the hotdogs were pretty good, ATB, Graham 👍
I used to work in an underground coal mine in the States. The shaft went straight back into a mountain 6 miles. We had a rail system with an electric "man Trip" which was a sort of flat car with places for men to sit. The coal was only about 4 feet high so you had to walk bent over all the time. It had conveyeor system to get the coal out of the mountain. But the machines were amazing. Everything was electric and some cables ran power to the machines. If you're interested just look up coal mines in West Virginia... And see the process.
@@grahamswildcamping There's a few things I found but nothing worth while. But if you just search coal mining in like west Virgina , Kentucky, Ohio You'll see some of the conditions and machines...ATVB
I'm sure you were one of the 2 people pushing me for a CT scan at Cramlington the other day🤔. Love Northumberland, love it more its out of reach for a while, good vid
