      The reason its forced is because you'd be shocked how many are born males. Its one of the little secrets in hollywood. Theyre Huge on Trans Gender. Its not a new thing. They want males masturbating to other males. Pink is an excellent example. They do the same to females. Bieber is a born Female.

    The Blair Witch Project is perhaps the most well marketed film in the history of cinema.

    • @LiquidSoulfly
      @LiquidSoulfly 6 років тому +15

      Who said horror films need to be scary? Re-Animator, Evil Dead 2, and Ghostbusters aren't scary and they're amazing. TBWP was chock-full of tension, dread, and mystery. That's perfectly fine for a horror.

    • @rtechie
      @rtechie 6 років тому +4

      LiquidSoulfly I saw it pre-release back when the filmmakers were still claiming it was real. People in line were having huge debates about it. I called it fake after I saw it.

      That and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original TCM was marketed as being "real"... even the beginning of the film tries to make it like that it was a real event when it was not.

    I wasn't suckered by it - I knew it was a mockumentary going into it. But it still scared the crap out of me. I don't know why, but that movie really freaked me out. It had no suct effect on my date. She wanted to get a burger somewhere afterwards. But a lot of the audience I saw it with were freaked out. I still think Blair Witch is underrated.

    I was suckered by the Blair Witch Project. I saw it opening day at the Neptune in Seattle. Your story almost EXACTLY matches my experience, both in the lead up, missing a showing and waiting in line for the entire running length, seeing people with morbid looks file out, and the warning from the theatre staff before the house lights went down. It was the singular best movie-going experience of my life....everyone in the entire crowd was silent and rapt the entire running time. When it ended almost the entire audience sat through the entire credit reel in total silence. I don't think this can happen again given the nature of the internet now, so I'm glad I got to experience it. It broke my heart watching it go onto wide release with traditional horror "SCARIEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!" marketing. The film has a quiet and subtle power that is only harmed by bombastic hyperbolic marketing, so I feel bad for those who missed the art house openings and went to see it en masse in the multiplexes, rightfully confused and feeling conned by the hype.

    I loved this video Paul. I was 7 when the movie came out, and I remember the commercials for it would play all the time during Monday Night Raw and scare the shit out of me. Then I saw the Sci-Fi channel documentary as it aired and was creeped out thinking the whole thing was real. A few months passed and around Christmas the movie was out on video release (remember VIDEO RELEASE lol) and was on the illegal free movie channel you would get on 90s basic cable. I actually turned it on when my parents were sleeping and watched in terror. As a little kid I was already afraid of getting lost and of supernaturl shit. The moment in the flm when you hear the faint laughter of children in the dark woods sent me running out of my room in a panic. To this day The Blair Witch Project is one of my all time favorites because it masters something most horror films cannot: subtlety. Thanks for taking me down memory lane Mr. Zeego.

    I remember hearing about this movie when I was a teenager and people talking about it online saying or believed it really happened. So I bought a ticket, went to see it and holy crap the build up from the beginning with the interviews, then watching the found footage until the very end gave me this eerie, scared and worrying feeling when I walked outside the theater. I was really satisfied with the movie but also my point of view on our world was changed thinking witches could be real. Eventually ended up watching it 2 more times with a classmate and then with family. For months I visited forums and websites and read and talk about it in chat groups, those were great times when a movie could have this immense grip on you. Even The Blair Witch website didn't gave any comfort by showing more interviews and making it look even more real than I already thought it was. Eventually the actors showed up on some MTV award and the director said "if we wanted to make people believe this really happened we would have". Finally we all could sleep in peace again knowing we saw a darn good movie. It captured me, the performances were outstanding and believable. It sucks the sequels to the movie were utter trash and never captured the terrifying experience we witnessed with the first movie.

    I'm around your age. I do recall the time the movie came out and how they were campaigning it. There was reasonable doubt in my mind, however. I obviously wasn't the only one who thought; why a movie and not a 48 hour special or something. Nothing about the little side stories hype was believable to me. It was a left field, all of a sudden, movie. It was a gut thing, because the pieces didn't fit.

    First off, you make awesome videos! And about the Blair Witch movie I remember it was advertised as 100% real! At the time it was only available to watch in Santa Cruz California where the lines were insane! I remember the night before the local radio station had commercials about the movie being real and how these video tapes were found underneath this cabin in the woods. I was about 18 or 19 and in had this crappy job at Shopko which had books and DVDS about the Blair Witch and the missing college kids. I read and watched everything I could get my hands on! Finally when we were in the movie theater it was so quiet that this guy told me not to open my bag of M&Ms and be quiet. I know this was super long but I got excited to talk about this movie! Thanks for you're videos again man!

    Cannibal Holocaust technically predates The Blair Witch Project in the genre of found footage horror. But TBWP did popularize the genre a lot more than arguably any other film (until the release of Paranormal Activity).
    I'm a big fan of horror movies being presented in the style of found footage; I think it more accurately captures the spirit of "horror" than any other style. I don't know how many others you've seen, but Paranormal Activity is a masterpiece of the genre (even its inevitable sequels aren't that bad). The original REC has some good moments too.

      I like to think of Chauncy as TJ editing the video. Ray William Johnson had a similar comedy style with =3, speech bubbles from the editor would appear to make fun of Ray while he was on screen

    I was suckered into watching this in a theater in Berkeley, Ca. The majority of the audience seemed to have been similarly suckered in, however after the 139th jump-scare over a heap of rocks, most of us got a clue and began to cheer on the "witch", along with shouting comments as this tedious mess unrolled before us ("oh, NOOOOO, it's a TREE", or "OMG, a pile of STICKS???"). Once we were clued in, it was fun in an audience participation kind of way.

    I remember reading the "journal" entries on the website, before the film was released. I sat for hours going over it and watching those "documentaries". It came along at the perfect time. The internet wasn't advanced enough to let people do mass amounts of research into the actors (every search for the "actors" brought up the Blair Witch photos) but they used it perfectly.

    I dig your style and you clearly have a strong base of cinema knowledge, based on some of the other videos I've seen on your channel. Just a few points on this one specifically:
    1. When you talk about they way they cast the film. This was a movie made by film students on a budget of $60,000. This bit didn't make it into your video, but informs a lot about the film.
    2. you say that TBWP was the first "found footage" movie... well, that's just patently false. It WOULD be correct to say that it started a trend on FF style horror films, but with movies like Cannibal Holocaust, The Connection, and Punishment Park there is definitely a history of this type of filme that you are completely missing out on... CH being the most famous FF film, as it was banned in many countries and the film crew was initially arrested as the authorities thought it was a real documentary.
    Cheers.

    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre fooled me. I saw it on VHS when I was around 11 or 12, and the beginning of the movie claimed that it was based on actual events. Being that I lived in Louisiana, one state over from Texas, and out in the middle of nowhere, I was scared as hell that Leatherface and his crazy family would find his way to my house.
    By the time The Blair Witch Project came out, I was in my early 20's and nowhere near as gullible. I kept telling people that there's no way they would release what would have amounted to as live murders being filmed as a feature film, that the families of the people in this film would have never allowed it. Very few people followed my logic. When the three main actors finally started appearing on magazine covers, such as Newsweek and Entertainment Weekly, there were no shortages of, "I told you so!" coming from me.

    I was just out of high school when this came out and I will never forget watching it. I was suckered as well, and that is what made it so great! I actually hate found footage films, because I know that they will never stand up to how I felt while watching this movie. I really thought I was watching 3 kids in the woods go through that terrifying ordeal. So yeah, I got suckered, but I am not ashamed. I got to experience something that I never will again!

    I was totally suckered by this for all the same reasons you mentioned. Those damn mini docs on SyFy..well, it was The Sci-Fi Channel back then, really had me going. me and my friends went to an opening weekend show all amped up and yeah, we left so solemn and didn't know what to say afterward. I'm glad i was able to experience the whole thing. The closest I have come to that was seeing the Fourth Kind with my wife, who still has a fear of snow owls because of it.

    I hadn't seen the fake advertising / publicity so I saw it at face value. I suspended my belief like a good audience member and accepted the premise and Blair Which became one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I had nightmare thoughts for weeks and knew I could never see the movie again. That we don't actually SEE anything scared the shit out of me. It SUGGESTED everything. BW is among my top 5 scariest movies.

    Me too!, I was working at a Marshalls back then and I remember everyone being obsessed with this movie. Even the loss prevention officer at my Marshalls was planning on going to Burkittsville with dogs and shot guns to try and find those 3 kids!!!. Me and him use to spend hours talking about it in the stockroom, we would debate different theories of those kids fates, the origin of the witch etc. My best friend and I would analyze the shit out every frame of the movie looking for clues that would help us solve the mistery. It was fucking awesome!. They totally had me and most of my friends fooled. Great review man.

    I was suckered by this film in much the same way, the advertising and word of mouth that this was real was simply amazing. It was while watching the film that disappointment settled in, I realized I wasn't scared, I was motion sick and that really deflated the whole thing. What I was hoping for was a documentary inter-cut with the found footage, what I got was an upset stomach.

Gotta love the 90s lmao. Awesome review too.

    I remember when the movie came out they were doing a premier in the woods that the movie was shot it, but I wasn't driving yet, so I couldn't get up there.
    Even though it was a movie I thought it was based on a real folk legend like the New Jersey Devil, Years later a few of us drove up there and got creeped out before we got to the town. Half way up a hill there was a church, with about 100 people, carrying candles while walking out and down the side of the road. Once we got to Burkittsville there wasn't really any place to park. There was a small church with a cemetery behind it that we sat at for a little bit but we had no idea where to go from there. Eventually we drove around but the people in the area made us feel like we didn't belong and the entire town had this eerie feel to it.

    I remember when this came out, my older sister went to see it at the theater one night. When she came home, she was beyond TERRIFIED!!!! She tries to deny she was scarred so bad, but I still remember her shaking with terror and being white as a ghost as she was telling us about the movie. And when I finally saw the movie, I couldn't sleep in the dark for the longest damn time.

    The Blair Witch Project has probably the most convincing performances in a horror movie of all time. A key to the acting being so believable was the fact that the actors were sent into the woods by themselves with very little direction and eventually were able to get themselves lost for real at some point. The part where they come to the bridge for the 2nd time I heard was 100% real.

    When I was 12 years old my mother got fed up with me putting rubber bugs under cups in the cabinet to scare her. One weekend when my brothers and step-dad were out on a hunting trip she sat me down and put on a vhs of Blair Witch, telling me how it was real and she remembered hearing about the stuff on the news when she was younger. I don't think I've ever been more genuinely terrified in my life. The movie ended and she went to bed but I was stuck on the couch watching the static too scared to even move. I couldn't sleep for almost three days after that and even when I tried the lights had to be on. I'd put money on the fact that I'm the most suckered sucker to get got by this movie that ever lived
