I really enjoy this movie and gotta tackle with a few counter arguments! 1. Setting - It's literally just our world but everyone turned into vampires, what changes aside from staying away from daylight should we expect? We still have to keep society's wheel turning, the make blood and substitutes a product to purchase so jobs are still needed. What exactly would you expect to happen to our world that dramatically changed into vampires? If this movie took place in a world where vampires were the dominant species for hundreds of years and not a decade, I can see drastic differences. 2. Cast - The protagonist is named Edward after I had to sit through Twilight...that is all. 3. The cure (plot) - Set yourself on fire, then dose yourself in water....yes, clearly an option scientists would've thought of when it seems only a small handful of vampires even wanted to be cured.
I dont think you know how science works. Look for Jesse William Lazear, Werner Forssmann, Eugene Saenger or Sigmund Rascher and it wouldnt be hard to think someone would try to exposed a vampire on the sun and turn it off before it dies to see the effects of it on their bodies.

Didn't mind Daybreakers too much tbh. I enjoy CFC.....but I never expected this to be the new Nosferatu, it was a just a fun, one watch, play on vampires.
I respect your take on the movie, it is entirely valid. How ever I enjoyed the change of pace from most other films, to be sucked into a fully realized world down to the finest details, showing the struggles with a collapsing and corrupt civilization, in search of an unlikely cure.
It isn't that good either, and it doesn't come close to doing its premise justice. Like Paul said, very little imagination went into building the new vampire world. It's just our world, but slightly different. I'd say that was some attempt at social commentary, but it didn't come off like that at all.
I reckon this was alright; especially the bit about "Day/Vampire Hot-rodding", & I LOVED the idea of "vampire re-hab", complete with the "miracle cure" line. You gotta admit it IS original, at the very least...

Was the whole point of keeping the human normal life aspect not because the change from humans to vampires happened in the not so distant past?? Therefore they’d still live normal lives with the same jobs except with vampire characteristics and the day night cycle being inverted normally????? Makes sense to me

When I went to see this movie in theaters, I was in jr. high and surrounded by teenage girls in love with Twilight. Is this movie a product of it's time? Studio meddling? I appreciated your critique of the setting but I'm curious if you have any ideas on how it could've been done differently; at the end of the day if everyone's a vampire, the world's still going to function similarly I imagine. They were all humans first.

I remember going to see this movie with a friend. We were both buzzed not drunk but by about a quarter in or half way in we left cause we wanted to keep drinking. And hes not lying. I was buzzed and almost passed straight out.
2019. and a crazy virus rules the world? They missed a year, but yeah. Ethan Hawk is still solid AF and the atmosphere they create is moody, perfect watch for a rainy day.
Daybreakers is a great Made-for-TV movie you can watch while reclining on your sofa and smoking a few bowls. But if I went to the theaters to see it I'd be fucking pissed.
Have to disagree on this one. I love this movie. I thought the novelization of vampires was part of the whole point. The blood starved beasts that they devolve into is extremely interesting. 8.2/10 would recommend.
The "boring" part of this movie does make sense. If vampires took over the world, I'd predict something akin to this film, or the destruction of the world as we know it simply do to the sheer number of vampires that exist in that universe.

I don't know about the complaint with the world-building stuff - what makes vampires appealing is that they're an extreme minority with cool powers, a gruesome hunger and they're social pariahs by necessity. If there were suddenly millions of them and they were free to operate in the open, then all they have is their thirst for blood to really define them I agree about the blood farms though. That's just stupid.
