God i remember being 10 years old and watching this on HBO at midnight when my parents were asleep and i had to sneak to the living room to watch late night horror/scifi movies. God i was so obsessed with this movie as a kid. Hahhahaha
Exactly for me as well! i was one of the few ppl i knew as a kid that had HBO and cable, even in the mid 80's (i was born 1980). non of my friends even remember "The Hitchhiker" on HBO. i think it later aired on USA? nostalgia! pre "Tales from the Crypt"
I still enjoy this movie and when Trickster put in a Primus CD that really sealed it for me. I would recommend that everyone watch the movie. As a hardcore horror fan I firmly believe that every horror movie deserves at least one watch. Never cut yourself off because of the opinions of others.
Love these reviews Paul! You get better and better at presentation, and I think you've always been good to begin with! One of my favorite voices to listen to!!!
rongusta11 yes when the mimd freak or whatever first shows up he goes through the kids cds and plays welcome to this world from pork soda i believe if im remembering right.
Nah, loved this movie growing up, its corny as shit but it has its appealing quirks and Trickster was an interesting character. You also missed the part where post realising it was all a game, Trickster reappears and the German Shephard he encountered earlier in the movie sniffing around the corpse he buried returns carrying the victims foot. Agreed on the room tho, in a time period where owning a Genesis or SNES was about as advanced as it got, this dude had the most mind blowing entertainment system and room going. It was like the holy grail of bedrooms every teenage boy would have killed for!
This video is one of your best yet! Holy shit, that movie was more 90's than the Burger King Kids Club Pogs you found in the parking lot of a Toys 'R' Us on your way back from getting a new pair of Roller Blades.
Special points for the Forensic Files reference. Also have you noticed Paul and T.J. Kirk have never been seen in the same room at the same time? I sense a conspiracy.
Your videos are awesome man! No idea how you don't have more subs than this because you definitely deserve them. So glad I found your channel, keep it up!
I can remember watching the trailer for Brainscan as a kid and thinking it looked like basically the coolest movie ever and I begged my mom to take me to see it the day it came out. I had spent months dreaming up my own intricate horror plot based around what I had seen in the promos and I was so disappointed with the actual movie that I will forever remember this film as the first time I saw something in theaters and thought, "I could've done better."
@@TommySawtooth Sorry for the seriously delayed reply. I don't know if it turned out better but if you Google my name and "Videohead", you can read the story that idea eventually became. If you know what to look for, you can even spot the parts directly inspired by the Brainscan trailer.
So good seeing some of these old 90s flicks and how bad everything was at the time. I absolutely love the review BUT i may have said it in your previous video, you sitting on the set with Chauncey is gold and offers a better presentation. Keep up the great work and continued success.
????? Paul said previously that fans/people who pester him to do something will ensure that he won't. You including my months old lazy streams go to show you have no actual rebuttal.
I guess its too hard for him to remember some simple jokes about a film, seeing he has to wear shades and darken the room, in order to read the script he wrote. Smh. Know one will notice.
I see where your coming from. Watching it now, when it was made back then. I saw it for the 1st time when I was very young. The twist was a surprise, the bedroom set was super futuristic, and I had a major crush on Furlong. It does have the formula baked right in though.
This review was on point. I thought it was lazy writing as well and equally pissed by the ending. Great review and great channel, subscribed for a while now. Love your videos. ^Quaisha T (QT)
Just now stumbling on this. Excellent stuff Paul. I remember renting this in highschool more than once from one of the local mom n pop video stores...this was pre Blockbuster everywhere days. YES to his bedroom, hahaha...wow, I felt (and still feel) the same way man!
in the context of modern reality I cannot recommend this movie however back in the day I thoroughly enjoyed it. okay maybe not thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was still a fun rental. at any rate this is the last movie I ever expected to see you modern review of, and I appreciate that.
i had a widescreen crt television in my bedroom in the 90's half the time it meant you had vertical black lines either side as most things on TV was in 4:3 aspect ratio
There was a 2nd "Twiiist" to the ending though, remember when the dog finds the first victims foot? How could it all have been a dream if that foot exists....dum dum dah!
You've got great deadpan delivery. I'm a huge Andy Kevin walker fan but largely avoid this film as I know it deviates massively from his original script
The Trickster is still a great villain. Between him and Cropsy greatly underrated horror 'heroes'. And no, I'm not comparing The Burning to Brainscan in terms of quality...
My boyfriend told me a few days ago, that he was in his friend's grandma's big house, it is empty now, with wast rooms, 2 bathrooms and everything, and it had a wide screen television like that. I couldn't believe him, as he described it. He said, he also couldn't believe and just stood there with jaw dropped on the floor for minutes. Back then we were east from the Berlin Wall... how could... just how? :O
I knew it! Steve Johnson! He did the demon makeup in 'Night of the Demons', which bears a STRIKING resemblance to "Trickster"'s haircut and overall look, did the makeup here too. Thanks IMDb!
you guys NEED to watch Session 9. it was such a good fucking psychological thriller and god damn is the main voice in it haunting. id love to see your review on it. i havent watched this movie in like ten years but i still remember it and how much of a mind fuck it was.
I enjoyed this the first few times now it’s a guilty pleasure I guess, this could have been done so well that I think a remake is worth it or atleast something that’s a similar idea
Dude, how old are you?? You're a kid of the 90s?? Im 38, born in 79 and was a child of the 80s, and dude, maybe it's the beard, but you look as old as me!
I distinctly remember the part when the demon is going through his CD collection dissing it, only to pull out a Primus pork soda CD and play welcome to this world and rocked out, how you left this out is beyond me, good review though
Update, I was wrong haha. It was brain scan, that had that scene. And my God, how similar these two movies are is astounding. If you have time, I would review it.
10:31 -- Yeah, you could say that, but you'd be wrong. I'm a struggling college student with no friends, failing to pass his weed out math and programming classes, trying and failling to get out of being a cashier at Walmart through all the Formal channels, and ultimately questioning the meaning of it all while waiting to inevitably get run over by a bus one day.
Younger Richard Nixon?? He’s an older Dracula! The first one I saw as a kid. Still better than Oldman in my opinion. Also the best thing about the HeMan movie.
Hot Bakery Eclipse Don't forget actual jokes, which really helps. And by jokes, I don't mean "reciting the characters' actions in a loud, disbelieving tone" which is like 90% of NC's comedic repertoire.
when this movie came out they used to give sample dvds away in computer mags of upcoming games, i looked everywhere for this game when i was nine but no luck but i did discover worms the best game ever before it became angry birds
it's a shame that at the end when they kill Mike, that the wake up scene doesn't reveal his hot neighbor as the one was actually the one playing the game. And that Mike actually dies.
God i remember being 10 years old and watching this on HBO at midnight when my parents were asleep and i had to sneak to the living room to watch late night horror/scifi movies. God i was so obsessed with this movie as a kid. Hahhahaha
Same here, loved it as a kid. Not so much as an adult, haha
Strawberry Donutking me too! I’ve been occasionally trying to figure out what it was called for like fifteen years.
Same, it was cinemax though for me. They had this special sunday night horror special and this came on.
I had a big crush on that girl the first time I saw this.
I still enjoy this movie and when Trickster put in a Primus CD that really sealed it for me. I would recommend that everyone watch the movie. As a hardcore horror fan I firmly believe that every horror movie deserves at least one watch. Never cut yourself off because of the opinions of others.
I agree.
Brainscan was one of those movies with a great premise but didnt quit get there. Maybe if John Carpenter had made it.
I like it. It's weird and cheesy. The Trickster is awesome, needs his own movie.
You mean like Brainscan?
is that the little brother from american history x?
rorysmakingamovie yes
Now he is a big time junkie that stars in every shitty movie to get money for his heroin
Edward furlong
And sarah connors son
No he's Linda Hamilton's son
Love these reviews Paul! You get better and better at presentation, and I think you've always been good to begin with! One of my favorite voices to listen to!!!
That ending made me shit my pants, thanks for that experience Paul.
This movie even has primus. As a kid in the 90s i loved this movie.
Caleb Cotten did you say primus?
rongusta11 yes when the mimd freak or whatever first shows up he goes through the kids cds and plays welcome to this world from pork soda i believe if im remembering right.
Caleb your right Primus was on the soundtrack of this movie. I actually thought this was a descent movie when I first saw it.
Your dedication is appreciated. That was NOFX John Connor was playing in the first song.
Wow, Ed Furlong's career took an epic nosedive immediately after Terminator 2.
Eh he was in Detroit rock city and I rly like that movie
Remember, it *was* The 90's :/
Mdxfiend also American History X
Well, he WAS the worst part of terminator 2
Well at least he was in American History X that's a solid movie IMO
This video is one of your best yet! Holy shit, that movie was more 90's than the Burger King Kids Club Pogs you found in the parking lot of a Toys 'R' Us on your way back from getting a new pair of Roller Blades.
Also, Dr. Robotnik.
Lol!!
I made my own Pogs out of other Pogs. They all had rock and metal band logos on em and I'd sell em at lunch.

I agree. The posters and trailer looked awesome ^QT
What was your plot?
So did you? ...do something better? Curious.
@@TommySawtooth Sorry for the seriously delayed reply. I don't know if it turned out better but if you Google my name and "Videohead", you can read the story that idea eventually became. If you know what to look for, you can even spot the parts directly inspired by the Brainscan trailer.
Omg this review is amazing! This must have taken a lot of effort and it’s really appreciated. You deserve 10 million viewers
Hilarious. One of my new favourite channels. Keep up the good work.
Also, when is Paul's Id going to host an episode?
(Wah, wah...)
So good seeing some of these old 90s flicks and how bad everything was at the time.
I absolutely love the review BUT i may have said it in your previous video, you sitting on the set with Chauncey is gold and offers a better presentation. Keep up the great work and continued success.
I'm 40 and I want that room now :(
For the over the top end I’ll like and subscribe. Had me chuckling harder than I should have. Well done sir
So glad I found your channel. I love Paul's sense of humor and all the reviews of the old crappy horror movies i love to hate.
I heard TJ mention that you *have* watched Neon Demon, yet you still haven't reviewed it? I'm hounding your spherical ass until it's finally released.
????? Dude seriously! I thought paul would have been all over it by now. Maybe hes making a more in depth review? Since he enjoyed it alot.
Or maybe he's not making the video to spite people like you who won't shut the fuck up about it.
*ZeeTheFreeman* aw, is someone sad nobody is watching their shitty 3 hour long video game livestreams?
????? Paul said previously that fans/people who pester him to do something will ensure that he won't. You including my months old lazy streams go to show you have no actual rebuttal.
????? That joke of yours was pretty weak, you sounded more like one of the legitimate ones.
Lol..the Forensic Files thing has me rolling. You have a new sub.
The lighting set up is fantastic! and I like your glasses :)
Since you did the Hellraiser ones, Do the Subspecies ones..1-4 with Vampire Journals as that is part of them
Oh jeez another movie from my teenhood. Your singlehandedly bringing me right back to my more innocent years. I love these reviews!
The Trickster uses Primus for his introduction. Made me love his character forever.
Loved this review. Really made me laugh hard at a movie I'd forgotten about for a good 20 years
Cool review. The movoe is not without flaws but it's actually pretty good.
where did you get those glasses? what style could you call them?
your voice is so soothing and hypnotic lol. Great vid
Is it Paul’s ego? Or Paul Zego?
I just found your channel and recently subscribed. I love it. Keep doing you Paul.
It's Paul quitto
This movie was dope.
Agreed
Yee
Yes
Yup
I always get this and Full Moon's "Arcade" mixed up. I used to rent six schlocky horror movies a week when I was 12-13. Ah, the memories.
Where did you get those sick shades and what type of shades are they
I guess its too hard for him to remember some simple jokes about a film, seeing he has to wear shades and darken the room, in order to read the script he wrote. Smh. Know one will notice.
Trendkiller "know one will notice?" Where the fuck did you learn English boy?
I see where your coming from. Watching it now, when it was made back then. I saw it for the 1st time when I was very young. The twist was a surprise, the bedroom set was super futuristic, and I had a major crush on Furlong.
It does have the formula baked right in though.
At 6:50 the forensic files theme is perfect!
Love the forensic files reference.
Yes
This review was on point. I thought it was lazy writing as well and equally pissed by the ending. Great review and great channel, subscribed for a while now. Love your videos. ^Quaisha T (QT)
Man, I hope you guys make some more videos soon. I miss it!
This review is the BEST... "walking episode of Forensic Files"... hilarious!
That ending tho... great idea paul.
Just now stumbling on this. Excellent stuff Paul. I remember renting this in highschool more than once from one of the local mom n pop video stores...this was pre Blockbuster everywhere days. YES to his bedroom, hahaha...wow, I felt (and still feel) the same way man!
I wonder, how would a review look if it was made a week after its release? With no information from today. CinemaForCynics any thoughts?
Great review Paul. I loved the ending.
The Forensic Files bit was so hilarious. I used to always watch that show.
it's not really a review so much as a plot synopsis
in the context of modern reality I cannot recommend this movie however back in the day I thoroughly enjoyed it. okay maybe not thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was still a fun rental. at any rate this is the last movie I ever expected to see you modern review of, and I appreciate that.

How could it all have been a dream if that foot exists....dum dum dah!
i just re-watched this and was like "did brainscan predict Alexa"
Love your style of reviewing movies.
Good to see you covered my favorite movie Paul.
4:00 Widescreen in 1994?
Yup. I was more interested in beating off to this technological marvel than the hot neighbor.
Yes, extremly expensive and rare at the time.
Back then we were east from the Berlin Wall... how could... just how? :O
Review the Lawnmower man and the 2end one. I love that movie. Lol.
I knew it! Steve Johnson! He did the demon makeup in 'Night of the Demons', which bears a STRIKING resemblance to "Trickster"'s haircut and overall look, did the makeup here too. Thanks IMDb!
God, I remember this jank gem! I hope you got a review for jack frost and rumplstiltskin. Same time frame
Best review yet, Paul
This could do with a remake it was pretty trippy. But why did the trixter appear at the end ? And the dog with the foot ? How ?
Time to go work for Forensic Files Paul.
The Trickster's rooster-mullet is sick AF
I liked how you pointed out his cool room I always thought t the same haha
How can you have a character named the Trickster and not have him played by Mark Hamill?
Where’d you get those glasses? Mr.CutFace DirtySuit?
you guys NEED to watch Session 9. it was such a good fucking psychological thriller and god damn is the main voice in it haunting. id love to see your review on it. i havent watched this movie in like ten years but i still remember it and how much of a mind fuck it was.
I'd watch this movie again just to see that sweet bedroom set up.
Comment about clearing up the acne was fire.
I love your content. Keep up the good work.
Looove Brainscan! Still have the VHS (and DVD) somewhere around the house! Lol. Keep 'em coming!
I enjoyed this the first few times now it’s a guilty pleasure I guess, this could have been done so well that I think a remake is worth it or atleast something that’s a similar idea
That ending was awesome, cant wait for the next video Paul.
Dude, how old are you?? You're a kid of the 90s?? Im 38, born in 79 and was a child of the 80s, and dude, maybe it's the beard, but you look as old as me!
Deducting from his pokemon the movie review that was taken down he should be born somewhere around 1981, 1982 or 1983.
Hell I’m in my 40s and he looks as old as my 50 year old husband!
These are so good! Liked and subscribed. 👍👍
Trickster looks like 80s new wave star Howard Jones
But the trickster played Primus - welcome to this world. 👍
If you have time, I would review it.
what a great introduction into the topic.
Great review. Childhood memories all came back lol
Omg I seen this movie when I was younger but only remembered the trickster growing up. Never thought I'd find the name of it or see it again!
The principal was the voice of Magneto in the 1990s X-Men cartoon.
Laughed so hard I spit out my coffee with your ‘Mogadishu’ reference
Just wanted to let you know that the Cynics Vs. D0GSH!T TRIPLE FEATURE! is still BLOCKED by BlueSkyFilm.
That forensic file shit was hilarious
Why do you not do more reviews I think you're very insightful
Oh i remember this episide of black mirror
I miss your commentary Paul (Zigo? Zeego? Zigough?). I hope CinemaForCynics comes back some day
That's harsh! Is there anything I can do?
How was this released? Where they just hoping to look good enough on a post to get butts in seats?
OMG YOU DID IT!
Awesome production. As funny as Nostalgia Critic if not more!
Hot Bakery Eclipse Don't forget actual jokes, which really helps. And by jokes, I don't mean "reciting the characters' actions in a loud, disbelieving tone" which is like 90% of NC's comedic repertoire.
LazärheaD uh ew
Dude, you're hilarious :D
You really made me laugh
Thanks
....subscribing now
when this movie came out they used to give sample dvds away in computer mags of upcoming games, i looked everywhere for this game when i was nine but no luck but i did discover worms the best game ever before it became angry birds
This was a PG Horror Flick. When I was 12, I enjoyed it.
it's a shame that at the end when they kill Mike, that the wake up scene doesn't reveal his hot neighbor as the one was actually the one playing the game. And that Mike actually dies.
Honestly, is it Paul "Zeego", or "Paul's Ego"? Paul Seagull?
I haven't seen this movie since the mid 90's but I remember enjoying it, I might watch it again.
