In today's video, I give you the three KILLER shooting mistakes player make on their jump shots! These simple shooting mistakes can really hinder a players ability to really score the basketball. By making sure you are avoiding these killer shooting mistakes you are automatically going to give yourself a better opportunity to increase your overall shooting percentage. By implementing these tips into your game you can almost immediately skyrocket your shooting!
My first tip is one that I tell all my players that are serious about taking their scoring and shooting to the next level, and that is "load the ball lower". Yes, this seems to contradict most traditional shooting instruction, but if we dive into the best shooters in the NBA we notice that all of the elite shooters load the ball lower by their waist or thigh. The common misconception is that it will actually make your shot slower, but in reality, guys like Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard are two of the most elite shooters in the NBA and get their shot off basically whenever they want to. Both of them load the ball lower. So the biggest thing that most players need to focus on is to not set the ball on the shelf. This is something that kills players shooting because of a lack of fluidity and power.
My second pro tip when it come to avoiding these scoring mistakes is keeping your heels up! Heel strikes are one reason why so many players really struggle with getting enough power on their jump shot. Keeping your heels elevated will ultimately help you keep your body ready to explode into your shot while also allowing you to generate as much power as possible. This is something we see a lot of the best shooters in the world implement into their game guys like Stephen Curry and James Harden. The number one reason why they rarely miss short is because they are experts at making sure there is zero loss of power when they shoot keeping everything extremely fluid.
The last shooting tip that really messes up players shooting form is hand behind the ball. The reason why it messes so many players up is that body bio mechanically it's super hard to do and extremely uncomfortable for most shooters. This one thing can cause a long domino effect that can ultimately cause a ton of other issues in your jumper. My advice to all players is experiment with different hand placement options and find which one works best for you to make sure your jump shot is not only super wet, but also super comfortable. Confidence is something we see in ALL of the great shooter's the best way to make sure you are a confident shooter is to make sure your shotmechanics are dialed in! So avoid these three killer shooting mistakes, and I promise you will become a lights out shooter in no time!

ShotMechanics Finally after trying to take something from all these shooting videos this was the one that fixed the majority of my shot. Thanks for the guidance.
yes
Congrats on getting drafted to the lakers
I cant see the pdf file on my phone dor the direction and the drills😕
Shoot consistently with good form 💯💯
Another tip is don’t think while shooting and before shooting
This is soo true
Yeah
You are damn right bit to accomplish that you need to work your ass out to gain muscular memory
Wrong😂
Maybe while,but not before😂
1:37 load ball lower for consistency. range and power
2:57 heels off the ground for more power and momentum
3:09 shooting hand on the top or side of the ball for accuracy
Not the hero we deserve but the one we need
Save my time
thx bro
@@abrorabyyu6221 its a 5 min video lmfao yall that impatient

Bruh, you just said the exact opposite of everything my coach said💀💀
Oldheads are real
Are you a Guard that regularly Dribbles the ball in your Offense and are you Short? If so... listen to this guy.
If you are a Forward OR Tall OR someone that usually gets the ball off of the Kick/Dish from Inside or on the Wing from the Top? If so... listen to you coach.
This guy does know what he is talking about. But what he knows and teaches is pretty much all built around being a SHORT, dribble heavy Guard.
I'm not saying you CAN"T do it his way if you are not a short, dribble heavy Guard. But doing this his way takes away all of the advantages of being Tall and is unrealistic unless you are dribbling into most of your shots.
Once you factor in coming off screens to catch and shoot or waiting on the kind of passes you get from the Top to the Wing or from the Lane to the Wing... you are now dealing with unreliable passes (most of the time). You'll be reaching wide to the Left or right, digging the pass off of you toes, pulling the ball out of the air as far as you can reach etc etc etc
You will not have time to catch that crap pass and load it the way this guy says in time to get off a consistent shot. You will make more than enough shots getting into a Loaded position above the Shoulder if you are STRONG ENOUGH and your Hand and Wrist Mechanics/Form is right. You are not shooting the deeper NBA "3". If you can shoot 50 a day in practice and hit the rim each time... you are strong enough to shoot this way in games when you will usually shot 10 or less.
If you are missing too many... your follow-through is probably your problem..

This entire vid explains why 99.9% of my school are brick machines XD

Same as my school
Same but we play on triple rims because they kept dunking
Dude same
That actully made me laugh
are you that 0.1% that is a green machine??
Thank-you my 3 pointer was short every time and I didn't get why. Now I realize I can put the ball lower to gather more momentum and move my hand up the ball more.
Same for me also!
I’m 51 years old. I played in HS and some in community college. My son went to his 1st basketball camp. That made me start shooting again. I have not shot the ball in over 30 years. It felt good putting it up again. I’m horrible but I’m working at it. Videos like these really help. Thank you for sharing.
Thats, amazing!
Man o haven’t played in 9 years. I’m 28 and I’ve been putting up shots for the last few days and damn I missed it. These vids are helpful
Exactly just joined a community rec league cause I miss it so much. Been ten years, everything came back fairly quick, but my shot is still missing. It's improving tho, just needs more work.
Klay thompson left the conversation...
Breaks rules 1 and 3 lol
Hahaha
Yeah cause he knows that he doesn’t want to waste his time on the video of learning how to shoot while we learn how to become a better shooter face it he’ll always be a better shooter
he dip the ball tho
He dip but he always shoot around his chest maybe during catch and shoot.
I played in college and professionally in Europe. I currently play with college and former NBA players in rece leagues. I became a better shooter AFTER watching the video on range and foot work.
More importantly, I started paying attention to players' feet and where they load the ball. Your tips definitely work Colin!
Ebong Eka thanks so much for the positive feedback! I actually became a much better shooter AFTER I stopped playing competitively as well 😀🙌🏼
No u don’t look at ur videos
Dont mean to sound negative 🤷 but if this video really improved your shot as a grown ass man, then you been trash.
Just Me The point of being a competitive athlete is to always improve every day. If you’re a “grown ass man” and not improving, then you’re probably not breaking old bad habits.
@@StevesSwift some people's shot is ugly, some people's look prettier.. Point is, mechanics don't mean much as long as it goes in. Everyone's shot is different. I still stand by what said before.. You've been trash if you're grown and this really helped you make jumpshots and 3s.
That last tip I really needed thanks again coach
Jermaine Williams 😀🤙🏼 Thanks for watching!
Me too, whenever I shot with hand behind the ball I always hit left side of the basket. I'll try this technique tomorrow on the court. Thanks coach
Even though this is old footage this definitely helps me amplify my shooting! I learn from you , thank you so much! I’ll continue to practice and learn and pickup what you guys do in this channel.
Awesome. I’m 52 and I can tell you we were taught to never bring the ball down low before a shot. And I guarantee you guys teach this because that’s what they were taught. I teach hitting and I see the same kind of well intentioned mistakes taught in baseball as well. Thanks.
I knew it felt better to load the ball there. I go with the jab step and pull up from that position.
This really helped. I've been looking for a video just like this but I couldn't find it. Thank you. This really helped
Thank you so much! This really helps if you practice enough times. At first it didn’t work for me cause my old jump shot was the exact opposite of these techniques. With enough practice, I hit four threes in a row! Appreciate it man.
Extremely thank you for your 3 tips, I was always getting trouble with my finger position and finally got an answer.
Been getting into basketball lately and find your videos by far the most helpful, concise and easiest to remember and apply. Thanks for making them, love checking out a vid before I go ball and having a few mental notes to take on to the court.
Jesus Christ died for your sinssssss please repent for For the kingdom of heaven is at hand

Thanks, since a few i got back out of a long break to basketball coaching for youth in my local basketball club... and i realized i've got old fashion habits about some motricity/mechanics fondation of balling and i need to some humble new knowledge .... like this one about shooting forms, your footage alongs other on this platform is helpful in updating me from 90's balling habits....it is also related to the evolution of the game, most kids are now more hyped about being an outside knockdown shooter than being an inside powerhouse dunker.
Thanks again, it helps

Thanks man, my shooting has regressed a lot over the years and I tried to get it better by going back to “fundamentals” but I realize now why my shot was getting even worse, I was practicing bad mechanics
Hadn't played basketball in a decade. Ran into some trouble in high school that took the sport away and became resentful. Finally got back shooting during quarantine and man it feels good! Was discouraged because my jumper was trash but over the past few weeks has improved. Wild that one of the main things holding me back was old thinking. Used to always go with what was comfortable, but coaches seem to beat that out of you until you conform to what they expect a jump shot to be. Have always gathered it low with hand a bit to the right to get more control with my middle finger to get a crisp rotation. This video helped me see I need to go with what came natural! Thank you so much!
i love this channel because coach collin he demonstrates more than he talks , one of my favorite bball channel
I was a little sketch about this Video like just another dude on that bs but this actually made alot of sense.
Bro the first tip already helped me! Thanks!
I feel more comfortable too lol
Thanks for the tips, lately I have been having trouble shooting but I will soon try this tips and see if they work.
All these tips are great keep up the good work!!!
Love the hand on the side or on the top of the ball. This step alone made smoother and my rotation so much better. The 2nd thing that drastically improved my shot was the position of my feet. I used to shoot with my feet straight forward, now I angle them to the side. These tips are really simple and your shot will improve in no time.
Thanks for this tutorial, This explains why my ball spins and goes off the rim, and the effort I have to put im the ball!😂
Thanks for the tips, I love your videos keep up with the great work and content!👍🙏😇
I remember that tip from 2017. 1:30 I've always watch you're video see if you change your mechanics. But it's the real deal like always.
I dont usually comment but this past year I've been watching you're videos and I have to say they've helped me improve my game soo much and I cant thank you enough .keep up the quality vids coach

Great tip regarding loading lower. Been trying to work out why my 3 was better off the dribble than on catch and shoots.
Thank you Coach! Your tips are so helpful! God bless you :)

Great tips coach! 🔥💯
DUDE THANKYOU. I’ve been putting my hand behind the ball this whole time, and this morning I was saying to myself “maybe that’s why I keep shooting with my pinky and ring finger and you just proved my point 👍👍👍
Question I hope you answer: with the hand placement, how do players avoid side rotation on the shot? I have noticed a lot of players that catch the ball with a side placement of the hand release from their thumbs and index finger.
Thanks, coach!
I recorded myself shooting the ball and when I hit the shot I noticed I really "dip" the ball below my waist.
Problem solved
Yo thank you so much this really helped and got to see the game on a different perspective mad respect
Good video. 👍
True. Everyone’s body mechanics is different. So you can’t force everyone to shoot the same way but there are some basics that are universal. At this point we should be able to quantify more specific techniques for specific body types. We have the technology. That’s what I hope to see in the future. To be able to analyze flaws specific to the shooter.
This helped me improve my jumper.
Thank you for this. My friends always try to correct my form but they have bad form as well, I am so happy I found this video
I’ve only watched 3 vids from this channel and I’m already a big fan of it! I love this guy!
That last one is really informative!
So that's the reason why I would feel my pinky and ring finger sometimes doing the work when I shoot! I'll def try it tomorrow, honestly I would play ball rn if not that it's now 10pm lol. Tnx a lot man
It’s never too late to practice
@@sponge_hubz right. I be practicing till like 1 am. Depends on his situation tho

I wonder why do Kobe Bryant uses Heel Strikes on his jumpshots. And his jumpshots are known to be deadly.
Many sports train you this way, for basketball it could be advantageous to flat or toe strike, but for Maxim height, heel striking is biomechanically superior. Every long jumper, high jumper, and triple jumper in the world jumps off the heel for vertical force production.

It's more natural to jump off the balls of your feet when shooting.. it sets you in the ready position quicker... I dont know why anybody would heel strike really.

Thats cool. Especially now that i've found out that i've been doing the wrong stuff for quite a while.
Thanks coach
I finally made it to the point where my shot spins out the rim.
A problem i have with hand positioning is that me and all kids including do indeed shoot with the hands on the side of the ball. The problem with this and that i learned is that it makes the shot way more inconsistent; i tend to get a lot of sidespin because my shooting hand is on the side and has to do extra motion to turn it straight facing the basket and also it just makes me use my guide hand more because my hand needs to turn in order to follow through to the basket if its on the side. I just dont get how this improves shots. And yes i know steph curry, other Nba players, etc. but they have the luxury of shooting thousands of shots everyday and getting used to it. Im just a bit confused with ur stance because u see guys like drew hanlen teach good hand positioning with the hand in the middle of the ball not the side and this mans been working with really good players like bradely beal, jayson tatum, etc.
Thank you for the tips
Thankyou for this man. Big help 🙂

Loading the ball low helps initiate the legs into the shot creating more force, it’s not just about the arms. Women especially have to do this. Elbow under and directly behind the ball at release is essential. Ball should go from strong side hip and up in a straight line for consistency in shooting accuracy.
what’s a tip to be a more consistent shooter?
