I lived in slum for 8 years in mumbai and in extreme poverty, my family especially mom helped us in getting out of extreme poverty. She earned a mere 50 dollars/month working in a hair saloon and with that money she raised me and my sister. With almost no money she risked it all to open her own hair saloon and guess what, it worked. Money started pouring in and i was able to become an engineer. I now live in Canada. We beat poverty. My mom is a superwoman.

I'm from Mumbai . I've seen the slums from a distance only. What I know is that these people do not tax consuming new house constructions or randomly picked up. They need an exposure to the new world and a hand to put them on that track.
They deserve it. Whole country can not leave in one city. It is their fault that they are residing there where they are not worthy for that place. Bank Tellers are far less efficient than manual wage labourers in the slums. I lived in a slum for the first 11 years of my life. My only advantage was that my mother was extremely forceful about my English education. That was the only way that I managed to get out of there.

I am also dharavi kar I am living in dharavi I don't feel any sham about that most of the business are done in dharavi and thing are cheaper than other area .The thing you get in the show room also made here you should vist and see more the 2 crores people living in that area . Every time I see places like this, or hear it my heart breaks. My natural instincts to help these people kick in but I can’t do anything. To know people live in these conditions while I’m in a comfortable bed with a roof over my head and a full fridge. I lived in Dharavi in my initial days of struggle. What i was and now what i am, is not of importance. What is important is that the video is showing/ telling the extreme of dirtiness and poverty. It is not at all true. I have seen the richest of rich and the poorest of poor there. Anyways... Something has to be done about dharavi ... To make it a better place to live in.
These slums clearly depict how fragile the governing authority was in those days, where there was no check for hygiene, quality and standards. Getting rid of these slums is like abolishing reservation system or corruption which is ingrained in indian governance.
I admire people who stay in such conditions and try their best to survive, because honestly, I couldn't do it. I would wish death would find mercy upon my soul. I hope their conditions change soon and they find peace in the process.
Lesser the education the higher the effort for earnings. But that does not mean they earn less. Most Dharavi people average similar income to many Corporate folks with education & work experience..

These slums clearly depict how fragile the governing authority was in those days, where there was no check for hygiene, quality and standards. Getting rid of these slums is like abolishing reservation system or corruption which is ingrained in indian governance.
I admire people who stay in such conditions and try their best to survive, because honestly, I couldn't do it. I would wish death would find mercy upon my soul.
I hope their conditions change soon and they find peace in the process.

Most of the labour force of mumbai lives there and there are thousands of small scale industries inside. Calling it cancer doesn't seem right.

Main reason for this situation is lack of education. In India as per data there are only 5 teacher's in a primary school with a student more than hundreds and our government passes budget giving away only 1.5 percent to education same in every government.

What about unemployment of 30% of skilled people who completed their education.
Overpopulating Mumbai was chosen by them! I don’t see myself moving to Mumbai with no money like these people did! Why is everyone blaming the politicians for this when it’s their own fault too! If the government really wants to build this nation, then this would completely vanish the slums and people living there would go nowhere. So even if you do head or tail, the government is to be blamed for! It’s just very easy to point fingers at the government. But people be aware, the way most Indians play the blame game is becoming our own problem.
India become developed and super power once we able to make this slum developed and progress with all facility and comfort rest of Indian live..

Too bad I am not nearby, but won't mind donating food, clothes, books etc. God has given me a lot, living in the USA. May God give all people Minimum basic needs items. I feel so bad watching this.Sometimes we show disgust towards these people.But look at their eyes they just want a better life but still are living like this without complaining.Whereas we go behind luxury.This will bring tears to eyes of any Indian.
After seeing this why is everyone blaming the government or the rich people. First of all, the government has tried a lot to build the proper houses but the residents refused due to a lot of illegal activities happening there, a lot of people from rural areas settle there bcz of more job opportunities and low rents. Due to their improper family planning and lack of awareness they increase the population density. Moreover rich ones doesn't owe anyone anything they earn by their hardwork and intelligence, they pay their taxes.
