Could the form of Phantom Ganon be based on the Hero's own thoughts and view of Ganondorf? In OoT, Link has already encountered Ganon and knows how he looks and acts, but in WW he has no clue. All be knows is from the stories and legends told to him as a child. A dark figure clothed in shadows who fights with a massive sword sounds like what a child would envision Ganon as, and that's what he takes the form of. It could even be based on the unconscious form people have given to Ganon. He's a demonic tyrant in OoT, and he looks like one. He's a legendary evil in WW, and he looks like one

I am inclined to agree, but why does he keep this shadowy, vague form after Link knows what Ganondorf looks like (when you meet him a 2nd time in Ganon's Tower)?
One out-of-universe explanation would of course be that they wouldn't do a 2nd model for the same enemy (which might not be true because technically Phantom Ganon in OOT has two models; one with Ganondorf's head and his bone-mask head).

I also want to point out that the lost woods is a place where without the proper guide, you turn into a stalfos or a skull kid(spirits of hate and trickery). Also, the Lost Woods connects to Goron City, Zora's Domain, and possibly Termina. So it would make sense that the Forest Temple would be a place where dimensions can be accessed (motions to the paintings in the Phantom Ganon boss room).

One lowkey theory I've had for awhile is that Phantom Ganon gave or let WW Link have the Light Arrows out of revenge for Ganondorf trapping it in the so called "gap between dimensions" during OOT, content to let itself be obliterated by the same Light Arrows if it meant Ganondorf's destruction

    • @UltimateTobi

I know that the player oftentimes gets rewarded with items by defeating a boss, but reading this strikes me because when you enter the Forsaken Fortress a 2nd time and defeat Phantom Ganon, he also leaves you with the Hammer; a tool you need to reach Ganondorf. He also laughs after vanishing.
What I also noticed today, when I played, was that when you enter the Forsaken Fortress a 2nd time, but not walk into the middle area yet and check the map, there's one chest located in a South-West corner room, but it's gone after you defeat Phantom Ganon (supposedly it's that chest that spawns in the middle area). So technically, Phantom Ganon transports that chest to you.
Usually the chest you get by defeating enemies is already located in the room it's going to appear in when you look at the map.
This is the only instance I know of where a chest icon switches locations on the map. And I cling to that to add to your theory and say that Phantom Ganon already aids you in the Forsaken Fortress by providing you the hammer.

Idk he could still be controlled by the real ganondorf, at the end of WW his smile at his death is a sign of redemption for me, maybe he got bored of living and at the sight of a new Link he remembered the good old times and decided to test him to see his worth and each times he succeeded he was more and more ok with dying to this Link to get reincarnated too.
This iteration of Ganondorf was cursed by the will of Demise to keep it up forever so if Phantom Ganon is still somewhat of a manifestation of his soul or idk, then Phantoms does seems like the only way to truly express himself out of the omnisight of Demise in his head idk

Also I suspect we could see a 90's censorship angle to this:
Sending someone "to another dimension" was 90's code for 'killing them'. (In)famously you saw this in the anime of Yugioh and Dragonball Z at the time, at least as the most famous examples. Or as an example from OOT itself: Ganondorf, after you first defeat him, coughs up green "blood" rather than it being red, as that would've given the game a higher rating.

The green just made it look like he sneezed up a bunch of boogers and snot. That’s what I thought had happened when I first played it (on the 3DS). Brings up a whole new meaning to “beating the snot out of someone,” am I right?

I am all for the idea that Phantom Ganon from both games are one in the same. The games do line up. In Wind Waker's timeline, the phantom was defeated by Link, then banished to the gap between. Termina was stated in one of the interviews to be a location between locations, in one of the interviews. The blacksmiths could have easily been paid/forced to make the sword we see in Wind Waker. When we, as players, visit Termina, it's in a different timeline, so we don't necessarily need to see him in that game.

    • @Argus223
      @Argus223 Рік тому +1

One thing supporting that is that Majora's mask takes place in the child timeline, where Ganon is never able to take over the temples because Link warned the Royal family. This means that phantom ganon never appeared, and thus, was never banished to termina in the child timeline!

  • @marche800

The idea that Phantom Ganon is meant to be a manifestation of Link's dream is really cool. It holds up really well too. The forest temple is in the Kokiri Forest the place where Link had that dream, it's also his first step into adulthood so facing his childhood fears and overcoming them has thematic resonance as well. Finally this isn't the only time that a nightmare creature took the form of Ganon to feed off of Link's Dream same thing happened with the Nightmare in Link's awakening.

as for Agahnim, I don't think he is a Panthom Ganon, he behaves too similar to Ganondorf (from Ocarina of Time) compared to the other Panthom Ganon. in my opinion it is a body created by Ganon to enter Hyrule, which would also explain why it is an Alter Ego (more or less, you have to put in a little effort): it behaves like Ganondorf, but nobody knows it is Ganon. however this runs counter to the fact that Ganon himself calls him an Alter Ego. more or less, from how Ganon talks in A Link To the Past, it seemed to me to understand that he no longer considers himself the man he once was, so from his point of view he is no longer Ganondorf, but he is the same (I hope I have made myself understood), so Ganon considers Agahnim the alterego of Ganondorf, which is not him but at the same time is.
Am I overanalyzing and proving and justifying my theory with thirty thousand entanglements? yes, but that's the most likely thing that came to my mind

      Michael Giuseppe Salvatore,
Aghanim might be some kind of alter ego but he is also his own person, he think and act independently of Ganon and can think and reason by himself, unlike the Phantom versions of Ganon (like the Blights for example). Also, when Ganon created Aghanim, he probably used a certain amount of Sheikah essence (hair, blood, DNA, etc) because Aghanim has the ability to turn into a shadow and use shadow magic which he does during his boss fight and also he has the Sheikah eye symbol on his robe. Aghanim wouldn't have the ability to turn into a shadow and to use shadow magic if he wasn't part Sheikah or if his genetic makeup didn't contain some Sheikah essence. In Ocarina of Time a Hylian in the Hyrule Castle Market says that teh Sheikah are the shadows of the Hylians and another Hylian says that teh Sheikah are called the Shadow folks or Shadow people. In Twilightv Princess when Link has ourged a region of Hyrule of the twilight, every time he summons Midna, she appears as a shadow, but also she seems to be literally hiding in/melding with Link's shadow on the ground and the Twili have shadow magic, at least some of the Twili are descended from Sheikah, Also, there's the Sheikah eye symbol on the back of the throne in the Palace of Twilight, but there's no teardrop, probably because the throne was forged before the great schism and the betrayal when like at least half of the Sheikah defected to the other side and a lot of Sheikah died in the war(s) and eventually the Sheikah went nearly extinct or went into hiding.

    • @michaelgiuseppesalvatore4912
      @michaelgiuseppesalvatore4912 2 роки тому +1

@@michelled.4874 that Aghanim was created with Sheikah magic is an interesting idea that I have not thought of, he had never found a logical explanation for the Sheikah eye on his robe (and the other details as well), however it does not influence my theory too much.
as for the Twili, I don't think they are just Sheikah, maybe mainly, but they weren't just Sheikah in my opinion, in their structures and clothes you can also see symbols Zora and Gerudo (a very well known example is the dress of Zant, who wore the Gerudo symbol since before he met Ganondorf), also because, a main detail is their hair color, which is similar to that of Gerudo. so I think the ancestors of the Twili were a group of various races, mainly Sheikah

I think Agahnim might be a physical embodiment tulpa created from Ganon. A tulpa can take on any appearance and personality of the will of their owners upon conception, yet they are still extension on their owners. They can have the same will of their creator, but they could gain more sentience and be fully independent to the point where the owner no longer have control of them.
It wouldn't be too surprising because with Ganon's immense magical abilities, it wouldn't be too far fetched for him to conjure a whole person as a subservient. The only reason why he doesn't create them in mass because they all have the capability of turning on him and giving them to much power. He just wants puppets to be used as tools for his aspirations and goals.

I don't think the writing on sword from wind waker's phantom Ganon is just a reference to majora's mask. Consistently in these games there is always a bigger meaning, for example the satori mountain in BOTW. It was made to honor Satoru Iwata but it also has a lor meaning as a sage died on the mountain. So if the wind waker's phantom Ganon is the same phantom Ganon that appears in ocarina of time that means the ocarina of time phantom Ganon went throw the gap between dimensions and got it's sword from Termina. so that means that Termina is an alternated dimension.

What if the gap between dreams and reality (I can’t remember the exact description) was somehow connected to the Dream World in Link’s Awakening (which I don’t know much about since I’ve never played but I know Wart from the Mario series shows up under a different name in that one)? Could he have something to do with that? I’m pretty sure there was a Phantom Ganon in that one, “Shadow of Ganon”, or something like that.
I actually have a really long rabbit trail to bring up here, while on the topic of dreams and shared characters.
Did you know that one of the sound effects used by Shadow of Ganon in the remake was also used by Antasma, the villain from Mario and Luigi: Dream Team? It’s also worth bringing up that both Antasma and the shadow nightmare thingies are ghost-like purple thingies with yellow evil-looking eyes that are dream monsters. So is it possible that the Mario universe and the Zelda universe are connected by dreams? Like I said earlier, Wart is in both Super Mario Bros. 2 (which is revealed in the end to be a dream Mario was having) and Link’s Awakening. And there are other known connections between the games, too. The Happy Mask Salesman has a mask that looks like Mario’s face on his pack in Majora’s Mask, for one. Another is based in cut content from the original Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, where Link was originally going to make an appearance. It’s also worth noting that Phantom Ganon and the Poe Sister’s hiding in paintings trick is very similar to King Boo’s connection to putting things inside of paintings in the Luigi’s Mansion series.
Link also makes an appearance in the Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars, asleep in a bed, and is unresponsive. Maybe he was warped there through some means similar to astral projection, while having a dream of some sort? That would make sense, if there really is a link (pun intended) between the two sisters inverses via the dream world? It is possible he was just visiting for the local kart races, or Smash Bros. Tournaments, I suppose, but it’s so much more exciting to suppose that their universes are connected through the dream world.

I feel that OOT's Phantom Gannon was created out of Ganondorf's will and imagination, acting more as an ego built version to represent himself before he got the Triforce. That's why the cutscenes are similar because Phantom Ganon is about as strong as Ganondorf was before getting the Triforce of Power.
The only reason he called it a failure was because it lost to Link, who at the time, Ganondorf didn't think too much of. Underestimating him throughout OOT.
in Wind Waker I think Phantom Ganon was a test to practice his returned abilities, or perhaps created after he and his giant bird flung Link out for extra security. To be honest, the Wind Waker's Phantom Ganon seems more like a incomplete shadow ghost over a humanoid duplicate of Ganondorf himself.

I always figured in Wind Waker regarding the Master Sword sealing Ganondorfs magic, despite him being able to do things like curse the ocean with an endless night, just meant that the sword sealed the true extent of his power. So, the magic he uses while it was in its pedestal was something any very powerful sorcerer could make use of given enough time, practice, and knowhow, but as long as the sword was in its pedestal Ganondorf couldn't use his incredibly powerful stuff unique only to him thanks to the Triforce of Power. In a sense, it put a major wet blanket over whatever he could do, and thus made it that he was limited to magic he was capable of doing on his own without the Triforce piece amping him to the level of the King of Evil.
While I am on the topic of Ganondorfs magic: He really does pack a punch with that stuff, doesn't he? Cause related to the topic of the video, he can apparently quite casually punch open a hole in the fabric of Hyrules reality when amped with the Triforce piece to toss the Phantom version though to be stuck between dimensions.
With that in mind - Suggestion for a video topic: Ganondorfs magic. He is a very powerful sorcerer even before the amp, and it would be interesting to examine all the times he makes use of his magic to do either subtle or direct things in the series, and what exactly goes on when he does use his magic. I think there is a lot to unpack with his magic too, such as I said above regarding him casually punching a hole in the fabric of Hyrules reality to toss the phantom though while at the same time telepathically transmitting his voice from the other side of Hyrule to talk to Link, as well as also remotely viewing the battle taking place. He is also able to then summon said enslaved phantom back at will when he feels like it, meaning the hole he made is something he can make use of at will. I haven't seen anyone do a video centered on covering the true extent of his magical prowess, either, so would be very interesting.

TP says at the beginning that the twilight realm is the land where those who have passed on is.
"Can you feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? It's said it is the only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who've left our world."
So the twilight realm is also the realm of the dead, and the great beyond, but also another dimension. Also Veran resembles midna, and Veran is a sorcereress of *Shadows.* And OOTs shadow temple is "the house of the dead."

Phantom Ganon is just an artificial body created for Ganondorf to mentally "pilot", hence it's the only boss he disposed of for failing him, as the body is weaker than his true self. As for the Gap Between Dimensions, it's probably an empty void that links all multiverses and even the dream and spiritual planes - if you don't have a key for it (i.e. Ravio's Bracelet), then you'd be trapped there, unable to escape.

one answer is that agahim is in a timeline in which ganondorf was successful in killing the hero of time and by doing so though that by using the same strategy from last time would work as we see ganondorf using the same powers as phantom ganon in ocarina of time.

In Japanese phantoms are just manifestations of malice without a host and Ganon is the manifestation of Demise's malice specifically. (Who's host is typically but not always ganondorf) Therefore phantom Ganon is a piece of Demise's malice separate from the host. The blights are even explicitly described as phantom Gannons

I always saw Phantom Ganon as a demonic Doppelganger. In Devil May Cry 3, there's a demon you fight who copies your appearance, but it is implied that it is capable of turning into other people and that there's more than one of them. In addition, it becomes your servant once you defeat it.
Basically, if Phantom Ganon belongs to the Demon Tribe, than he may simply be a demon classified as a Doppelganger.

I honestly think that Phantom Ganon(s), and especially Agahmin, is a tulpa, a mystical being born from the mental and spiritual power of its creator. Aside from being known as doppelgangers, these Phantom Ganon are often puppeted and are focused on fullfiling the will of it's master, similar to a tulpa.
It also explains why Ganondorf's explanation after destroying Phantom Ganon in OoT. He literally discards him to the "gap between dimensions" (a metaphysical realm or void) where a time and space doesn't exist. This could be him literally no longer acknowledging the existence of Phantom Ganon as if a thought, thus destroying him.

Aha!!! I called this when I first beat BotW, back in 2017/18. Calamity Gannon never felt like Gannondorf. We fought the phantoms, we fought the beast, but we have yet to fight the man himself. Than the sequel trailer drops and confirmed it. And finally this (I know it's a theory but it just all confirms my initial idea). I'm never good with voicing my theories, but I love when theories pop up like this so I can have my "aha!" Moment lol
Edit: I'm aware they are the same entity but different. Ganondorf never manifested himself in full force. We only fought the phantoms (Blights) and his beast incarnation (Calamity Gannon). Yet have yet to see the man behind the curtain.

    @TimeAxis Рік тому

The simplest answer is probably the correct one. Phantom Ganon’s boss fight revolves around him jumping between the various painting dimensions (becoming “part” of the paintings’ worlds) and the real world. He was probably sealed in the gap between those paintings and the real world, as in the state he’s in when he turns white as he’s exiting a painting and can be targeted.

The theme of the forest temple is revisiting the past. Link goes back home, and finds a twisted version of what was once his home with monsters infesting the whole place. Link’s only mission is to check on the one light that once shined on his whole life to make sure she is still safe, and it turns out, she also vanished when the monsters started invading the forest. Now, Link has to go to the temple to save her, and relive a worse version of what he experienced inside the deku tree. Once he finally reaches the boss’ chamber, he finds that it is Ganondorf who he has to face, but it’s not the real Ganondorf, but a phantom that took on his form from 7 years ago. It stands to reason that Phantom Ganon takes on the form of Ganondorf that Link remembers.

I want to share a theory I realized by watching only still images from the second trailer, it is about the sky islands and their potential meaning by comparing them with the map landscape sites.
After Zelda falls onto the pit hole, immediately begins the cinema display where Link is sky diving using Skyward Sword falling style, the last frame of Link´s falling please stop the video and on the center of the image you can see some map regions on the Hyrule ground surface such as trees, roads and other aspects. It is visible the spot where lies a big tree closer to the Central Tower on Hyrule Field, I believe the name is Ancient Tree Stump next to the Mount Daphnes and where lies the Kaam Ya'tak Shrine supposedly area there is a cracked rocky formation, potentially an under ground area. I have the impression that there will be pits over Hyrule map and after succeeding the exploration now one can access to the floating islands. The Mabe ranch square where horses runs there is also a hole in that place (This is visible when links is gliding next to the Talus). During the falling animation of link you can see the island with that strange and misterios ancient temple I believe those would the the aspects of the new Towers of the sky. It is also curious the similar location to that ground location on the map and the location of the Tower, Shrines and roads. Please have a look to the video and explore what I am referring to those indications.
Another image is when Link warps upwards using the reverse drop mechanism similar when the Sheikah Slate gets updated. I strongly believe that cinematic display of that scene meaning is when Link travels to the sky island it is no more that the way to travel to already found and explored islands like that way you can teleport to outside Shrines and on top of the Towers. That cinematic is when you are teleported to the Ridgeland Tower on Hyrule Ridge. I have the impression that those structural rocky ancestral temples are the towers of the skies. From that image you can observe the Gerudo Highland and Tanagar Canyon on the horizon. Another observation is when you compare the aerial geo position of those islands and compared to the Shrines and Towers are slightly allocated on the same location, please take the time to visual compare these locations. The green dragon on the island, I imaging it is the master or monk of that island. the dragon will give you tasks to prove the courage of the hero. It will replace the role of the Shrine Monks.
Based on what happened in Wind Waker having to get 8 shards of the Tri-Force of Courage. I find the outfit that Link is wearing very curious. He has 9 triangles on the lower front. I get the impression that 6 triangles are related to get the Tri-force in underground temples of a thematic nature towards the characters of the sages and another 3 temples in the respective heavens to the dragons to restore the master sword. That is 9 temples in total and the final temple. It seems logical these arguments totally based on my hunch.
I want to quick mention a short theory. I remember a video from Monster Maze where Link´s having a half of his body fully corrupted. Have you ever consider the possibilities that this idea might be real (remembering the sketches and drawings of Link wearing a green tunic with a hoodie and holding broken Master Sword). When this Ganon Malice advances throughout Link’s body the golden metal from the arm also will move in order to protect Links wellbeing. This also means that as the hand evolution advances (due Ganon Malice) more new abilities for Link will be provided for the Hero. Maybe ability of powers using his right half-body (Capabilities of powers using his head, eye, shoulder, elbow, fist, leg, and knee).
Hope this helps you in someway for your video analysis!!

Yes! Another theory! It’s been so long! I’ve missed you!! So glad to see you’re still doing the Zonai swirl joke. Lol. I loved this one. Excellent theory about the dreams. It makes sense.
I personally don’t believe it’s the same entity. And your last minute inclusion of the phantom riders is what solidified that for me. In Twilight Princess, Ganondorf makes multiple phantoms. So, why do the ones in OOT and WW have to be the same? It’s just a trope, a gimmick, that Ganondorf does. Also, it’s like the Dark/Shadow links. They’re not always the same entity either.
(Also, I do personally believe that the Dark Sword Spirit in Twilight Princess is a Phantom Ganon as well. What do you think?)
Please do more theories more often. It’s been so long since the last one. ❤️

I have a theory that Ghirahim is Phantom Ganon, his essence a remnant of its former glory, eager to serve Ganondorf as Ganondorf serves as Demise's curse. Without a stronger power to guide it, Ghirahim's spirit was probably somewhat bestial, and needed to be reshaped to refine it. Tied with this, I think Death Sword from Twilight Princess is also Phantom Ganon/Ghirahim's remnant spirit, it was summoned by Ganondorf but imprisoned before being fully reshaped into Ganondorf's likeness.

Ever since the 2019 reveal of Ganondorf, I began to belive that Calamity Ganon is either a Puppet Ganon or a Phantom Ganon.
It depends upon wheter it is controlled by Ganondorf', directly from his sealed body or if it's and entity that is born from the malice seeping from the sealed demon king.
It all depends upon if Ganondorf's will is a active or dormant, if actively controlling Camamity Ganon then it would be a Puppet, if inactively driven by Ganondorf's will (more like a deep seated desire or purpose it has possessed since it's "birth") but with a mind of it's own, it would be a Phantom!
    That is my 2 cents!

Beast Ganonin oot and demise wer bothe pretty intimidating in form so if calamity is like a phantom Ganon the real Ganon could be waiting for a chance to make his apearance. Ganon or Ganondorf has apeared in moste but not all games so building up the momentum by not showing his true form till a later game would be cool. Maby botw2 will give us a complete and truley threatning Ganon.
