@@deanvombrack2028 You are so right! That's why we can't leave the old music. It is just too powerful. I'm 56 now and so unbelievably thankful that I grew up with the best music and talent.
"With. Without. And who'd deny, it's what the fighting's all about?" You could shoot those words into outer space, and they'd fully describe planet Earth to whomever found them. I knew you guys would love this.
The larger theme of Dark Side - the meaning of the metaphor - is about the dangers in life that can lead to lunacy (a word derived from the Latin for “moon”) and inner emptiness: obsession about money, war, overwhelming pace, taking for granted the passage of time, etc. It's a cautionary tale. Us and Them is about war specifically, but more broadly it's a person asking himself how we've come to this point of collective madness that leads us to do such crazy and horrific things to each other. The whole album is a masterpiece, and the greatest thing about it is that it's still completely relevant - and the more you listen, the more you find in it to discover. Glad you're enjoying it...!
👏👏👏👏👏👏Well said/explained. To me, the journey through the entire album is a religious experience. It takes me to places that I sometimes don't even know, mentally. Any older hippie will tell you it's even better with a good doobie. For me, that and a black light, in a dark room with headphones, uninterrupted and it's on.
The first half of the song is kind of a life cycle, and it ends with "Great Gig", which is literally you dying and in your few brief moments going through the phases of grief/death which ends on those last few notes and mutters with your acceptance and getting peaceful with the end. The 2nd half is more like what you said. But "On the Run", while it musically fits with the first part, is simply Roger Waters interpretation of his fear with flying, as he has said. And US and Them is what you said but it leaves no doubt about who pushes us to this "US" vs. "THEM" mentality, which are the leaders. The last few lines kind of sum up this, "Down and Out, it can't be helped but there's a lot of it about". This is the condition of too many people, being down and out. "With, without, and who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about" The song painted the US vs. THEM as you looking at others, in another country, or another race being the problem, the "THEM" that hurts you, but in the end people fight because of their feelings of lack, that they don't have what they need so when your leaders point to some other group and label it "THEM", you fall prey to their words, but those are the people "WITH". They play you against others to distract you from all they have. And it works that way all around the world and it has for thousands of years.
@@johndoh5182 👏👏👏👏 very nice! Sucks that it is this way and people still don't see what the Leaders do to people. It's really bad, especially these days.
I am just a 68 year old white guy from Britain, and I don't expect I will ever meet you, but can I say a huge thank you for the pleasure your reaction has given me - it was fantastic to see the open imnded ness and emotional intelligence with which you completley got it. The song that follows this on Dark Side of the Moon is 'The Great Gig in the Sky' in which a woman singer called Clare Torry created the most extradordinary vocal imaginable. That song is about death and she starts with a howl of rage against the inevitability of death which gradually softens as she becomes reconciled to it - I am sure it will absolultely blow you away. The live version from Pink Floyd's 'Pulse' concert is equaly amazing, with 3 women sharing the vocals - Sam Brown, Durga McBroom and Claudia Fontaine .
this is why they are the greatest band, talking about things in the 1970s,which are still taboo today, and yet we still allow them to divide us today, this song should be on repeat all around the world, maybe then people might wake up,and stop letting them label us, and start looking at the real evil in our world. great reaction
Add to that Steppenwolf's "Monster".... "You've filled his house with things of gold While handing crumbs to the old and poor And then you preach about being pure And wonder why we're laughing In your old way you're trying to find us But we can't follow what's behind us Too much blind faith, it will blind us Though sometimes it's a blessing"
If these Floyd tracks seem to end a bit abruptly, that's because in the album, they flow directly onto the next track without a gap. If you listen to 'Time' next, which I highly recommend, then let it flow into the 'Great Gig in the Sky' just as it's meant to, and there'll be no 'cut off' ending feeling. Pink Floyd will touch your soul!
I've read that while recording this song they couldn't figure out how to end it so they just stopped. Personally I believe that Any Color blends perfectly.
I'm old enough that I have listed to this album since it was released in the early 70s. Pink Floyd music spoke to me throughout my life.with all its ups and downs. I still have my original LP, and have bought it on every format since. :-) It's wonderful to see their music still be appreciated by generation after generation. That's the mark of truly great music. ❤️ Blessings ❤️
I feel that Us and Them is about the false separation that is humanity. Humanity has a tendency to see others as others, when really we are all one human family. I listened to Us and Them as I was talking myself into going into a mental hospital to see my father after his breakdown 25 years ago. I cried like a baby after hearing it, and remembered that no matter how much anxiety I was feeling at that moment, my dad needed me, and I needed to woman up and put on a strong resolve to help my dad. He passed away a couple of years ago now. Every time I hear that song, I remember that moment. Still makes me cry. That's a true masterpiece. Y'all are beautiful, and I enjoyed watching your reactions to my favorite band
I am sorry to hear of your father's struggles. Thank you for sharing. We are all closer to losing our tenuous grip on this world than we care to admit. Be proud you were there to hold him when he lost his grip.
"The generals SAT, and the lines on the map moved from side to side". Those lines on the map are human beings fighting someone else's war. It goes round and round as more men die, on both sides. To the men on the field, let it be known that it's not us vs. them, it's Us and Them. Pink Floyd is one of those bands that have transcended genre. Whatever your taste (rock, rap, country, classical, etc.), and whatever walk of life you may be, there will always be Pink Floyd.

My all time favorite band. (Their albums are meant to be heard in their entirety though. I would encourage ya'll to do some full album reactions at some point.) Also, their "Echos" track Live in Pompei is great.❤️
Bought this album when I was 12 and have been a life long fan, now at 59 I still listen to PF regularly, their music has gotten me thru so much in my life. Best band ever...♡
Lol my sister bought this album when I was 12 and I’m 59 now. I used to play this (vinyl) sitting next to the stereo on the floor with my headphones plugged in and the lights off. A definite milestone album in my musical upbringing.
58 here, The Wall was one of my first albums, made my way back from that. "Wish You Were Here" is my favourite. PF knows that it does not need to be as fast and virtuoso as possible. They give each note their space to develop to full effect, know that loud is only loud when there is a silent to compare it to. It all depends in which time WITH WHOM you heard what. That stays forever.
Ditto, I got that LP around age 15. Thought I was gonna wear the grooves off of it. I just turned 60. Still NEVER tired of this, or of them. Truth spoken in their music is even more relevant today.
Pink Floyd's one of the greatest bands if not the greatest!! Each one of their albums is a journey within itself. You literally have to listen to each one in it's entirety to really appreciate the music they convey. Their words are riveting and true to the core. Thank you for sharing!!
The lyricist for Pink Floyd for this, and all their best albums, is the bassist, Roger Waters. Though he is a troubled soul, he had a very unique way of distilling so many of the issues surrounding human existence into very simple, yet extraordinarily insightful concepts: us and them, black and blue, up and down, etc. True genius. Mel, I really appreciate your honest emotions reacting to this song. Between the words, the music, and the ethereal voices of David Gilmour and Richard Wright, this song (along with many others by PF) can often bring me to tears. God bless
The first time I heard this song I sobbed like a baby....This album was given to me by a friend for my birthday around 1973-74...Perfect album beginning to end...I was fortunate enough to see them in concert 2X...
This is my favourite song from Pink Floyd, and that is really saying something. I guess people always read their own message from the song. It makes me think about how ordinary people are used and divided by the powers that be. Often played off against each other to further some agenda that ultimately only benefits the manipulating class. Us and them (for me) is about recognising this division. Whatever it's about, the song is beautiful. Cool reaction as well.
Gorgeous song. The saxophone…the piano…the lyrics! It all just tears me up! Loved your reaction. Thank you. Oh! And Mel’s hair is ON POINT baby! ❤️❤️❤️
I have loved Pink Floyd as a kid in the 70s and beyond.... They are one of the few bands that make you think and can pierce your soul at the same time!!! Just pure talent musically and in their written words in each song.
Lol...what a great reaction to the music that raised me. No one does it like Pink Floyd. I started listening at 11yrs old and still listen every day and now I'm 58 haha. Someone wrote in the comments that it changes your DNA....he's absolutely right. Please continue to explore these magnificent musicians 💯👍🇨🇦❤️
Chilling. Pure poetry. Simple but effective word choices that convey sharp social commentary. One great song off the best album of all time. Dark Side of the Moon is one of the first and probably the best concept album ever. All the songs are linked thematically - love, death, war, greed, time. You should listen to the album the way it was meant to be, all in one sitting as one song bleeds into the next musically and by theme.
Pink Floyd drew a lot of inspiration from gospel music, jazz and blues and fused them all together. They are definitely worth looking into. It's an experience when you listen to them. Wide range of emotions.
I love seeing people experiencing Pink Floyd songs for the first time. I brings back the memories for the first time I heard them and where forever changed.
You guys are awesome. You dont frequently interrupt the music or babble excessively over it, but really and deeply enjoy it. Which makes your reactions more genuine. Been listening to this since 1973 and have never tired of it.
Yah Floyd will do that. As anyone will tell you, you MUST listen to the whole album all the way, start to finish and you WILL totally get it cos cool people do. I was 14 when I heard this and MIND BLOWN FOREVER. Awesome reaction dude and dudette! Peace and love from East Coast of England. x
Pink Floyd will rearrange your mind and soul...my first experience with them was in 1976 when I was 7....my life has never been the same. I really believe that they are here to give us peace and joy in times of hardship and pain. They are therapy musicians as far as I'm concerned.
I loved the way Mel was making that astronaut on her shirt dance as she was listening to this. For a while, I forgot the astronaut wasn't part of the video!😁
Experiencing this through your eyes and ears is phenomenal regardless of the many times I’ve listened to this in the last fifty years! Thank you for sharing!
yeah you've probably heard the ones i can't listen to any more, for being overplayed. those are their 'pop' songs played on every radio station. of course, that's not what they had in mind, those songs are still deep, powerful and ingenious. radio stations are unable to take you to the next level so you have to take it from there.
Masterful. These gentlemen were touched by something that is truly beyond this world, beyond our ability to comprehend. It is the spark of the exquisite, perfect, divine.
This album or CD is best when you have about thirty minutes, it's cold and rainy out, you have a small fire going in the fire place, sit with a nice glass of an adult beverage, some smoke, and listen from start to finish. This set the record for being in the top 100 albums the longest ever. It's considered musically and lyrically a Master Piece!!
There Is a lot to like with modern music, of course there is. You can only imagine what an effect it had on a young person growing up in the early 70’s. Now I am well into my 60’s so it is great that you guys really get this and all that it is trying to say. 50 years has not diminished it at all. Thanks for playing this and for your open and honest reaction, those tears were clearly very real. - Cheers Stephen
You're rigth: we're all just the same, even though we're always trying to be "different". Loved your reaction. I did understand this piece a lot more after watching how you reacted to it. Thank you.

Pink Floyd music always move me, even after listening to them for forty years! Love your reaction to yet another classic Pink Floyd tune. When I go on a long road trip, I pop in this cd and the miles go by like nothing. Thanks for reaching! Love you guys!
I consider this album to be perfect from beginning to end. The first time I heard it probably around 1973 or 4 and I heard us and them honestly I cried too. I saw them twice in concert back in the day and I was blown away.
Funny thing....... I have been to 3 Pink Floyd concerts and when you look around the crowd you realize we are more alike than what we see. People of all ages and all walks of life, of every color , are sitting with you watching in amazement. We all take away from this band what we get out of it but it all seems positive and connecting to me. I have all their songs and David inspired my to pick up a guitar. It got me through some very bad time in my life.
My parents turned me on to this album when it first came out when I was 14 years old in 1973. They had really good taste in music. I always felt this song was about the have and have-nots of the world, most of us being the have-nots. Some people eat cake and some are starving in our world. Some drink champagne while others have no water. I have seen Pink Floyd several times in concert during their heyday and that is the frighting point they are trying to get across. Excellent reaction. I am a new subscriber.
The day I got married, when the guests got seated I made sure to play "US & THEM". Best song ever created. Moves me to tears every time. It's about the lines we draw in society. But in the end we're only ordinary "people". Respect.
Us and Them (from Pink Floyd) is probably the deepst song you can get when lyrics is concern. Fabulous and comprehensive over us, mankind, it wont't get deeper than this.
Wow, I've heard this song sooooo many times, but seeing you react with such emotion to the sound and the words... it brought emotions out that I'd not felt for a long time. Thank you for doing that. Oh, and Mel, your smile is amazing, I couldn't take my eyes off of you the whole time.
This is one of the greatest songs ever. Really has so much, heartfelt emotion in this song. Love PINK FLOYD, seen them in concert, mind blowing concert, probably all the pot, and drugs LOL. There will never be another PINK FLOYD!! ROCK ON.
"With. Without. And who'd deny, it's what the fighting's all about?" That reminds me of my favorite U2 lyric: "So they say, this is the Golden Age. And gold is the reason, for the wars we wage."
Pink Floyd always deep! Not just masters of the craft but big hearts! Can't tell you how many times I went to sleep listening to this album when it came out. There is no better band IMO.

Back in those days bands were just pounding out the notes, heavy solos, etc. PF puts soooo much space between their notes that just pulls you in. Even in their solos. This music was revolutionary back in the day BUT is timeless even to new listeners today.
Pink Floyd is my favorite group of all time -- and even though Dark Side, for me, is an album that I've heard WAY too many times, *this* song will always be right up there with my favorites by them. Just so good.
I can't believe it's been soo long since this album came out. We would only listen to it front to back and skip no track....usually very high. Saw them many times and was never disappointed.

@CreamintheCoffee being a “boomer “ myself we did grow up with the best music. I have to admit after watching “first reactors” there was an unexpected pleasure from watching young people experience what we experienced .Good music is timeless. It doesn’t matter when it was written.
@@The_Gallowglass definitely brings new relevance to “on the turning away “. A song they need to listen to… especially the “live” version
This comment rh gives me hope for humanity.ive been listening to pink floyd since they.came out with the album uma guma.no words..
@@deanvombrack2028 You are so right! That's why we can't leave the old music. It is just too powerful. I'm 56 now and so unbelievably thankful that I grew up with the best music and talent.
The amazing talent of Pink Floyd. So blessed to experience the wisdom of their music.
"With. Without. And who'd deny, it's what the fighting's all about?"
You could shoot those words into outer space, and they'd fully describe planet Earth to whomever found them.
"With, without, and who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about"
The song painted the US vs.
Thank you MD92468 for your concise analysis of this great concept album.
I can certainly see those themes touched on in the album.
Pink Floyd music has a way of grabbing a person by the soul. It touches people's on a personal level. They are the greatest band to ever play a note.
TRUTH!
💯
The live version from Pink Floyd's 'Pulse' concert is equaly amazing, with 3 women sharing the vocals -
Sam Brown, Durga McBroom and Claudia Fontaine
.
this is why they are the greatest band, talking about things in the 1970s,which are still taboo today, and yet we still allow them to divide us today, this song should be on repeat all around the world, maybe then people might wake up,and stop letting them label us, and start looking at the real evil in our world. great reaction
I❤this reaction!
if you play it on repeat ordinary people will probably start killing each other. the ones that already do so will kill some more. lol
Add to that Steppenwolf's "Monster"....
"You've filled his house with things of gold
While handing crumbs to the old and poor
And then you preach about being pure
And wonder why we're laughing
In your old way you're trying to find us
But we can't follow what's behind us
Too much blind faith, it will blind us
Though sometimes it's a blessing"
I love you two! 😍
It has Jones and it always will, I'm 70 and it still thrills me to the core.
Great song, great group, great album.
This was an experience watching you guys experience this song for the first time. Every emotion captured, great stuff
This song.. Always.💯
Transcended

Of course I am sure someone mentioned this but this Album has to be listened to from start to finish to get the whole experience. No Album ever moved as seamlessly from beginning to end as this one does for me. YES this is my favorite of all times !
Ziggy and Diamond Dogs are very close on that level.
agree, this is good on its own, but with listening to the album, its just so right as an end to the album.
And to get the full impact and experience the depth of the album’s atmosphere, it must be listened to AT NIGHT.
My all time favorite band. (Their albums are meant to be heard in their entirety though. I would encourage ya'll to do some full album reactions at some point.) Also, their "Echos" track Live in Pompei is great.❤️
Animals for me. These guys are so into lyrics and symbolism...they get it.That's why I love them 😍
Pink Floyd has a way of luring you in. I had this album on 8-track when it came out. A long time ago, it seems.
Bought this album when I was 12 and have been a life long fan, now at 59 I still listen to PF regularly, their music has gotten me thru so much in my life. Best band ever...♡
I'm with you ! I'm 61 and feel the same
Lol my sister bought this album when I was 12 and I’m 59 now.
Saw this band live in Vancouver 1971, before this song existed...now I'm 69 and still into it.
God bless
Got to see them live June 28 1975 Ivor Wynne stadium Hamilton. Great show
The first time I heard this song I sobbed like a baby....This album was given to me by a friend for my birthday around 1973-74...Perfect album beginning to end...I was fortunate enough to see them in concert 2X...
I've seen them twice as well,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
"With, without; and don't deny it's what the fighting's all about." So true. These guys are not ordinary men, imo. Such a great song.
ALL of their songs are deep , Time , Great Gig in the Sky(about dealing with and then accepting death) are two musts . Love you both
I love that you're able to feel this like we did in 1972. This is music that will fit in 100 years, as true genius is timeless.
DSotM was released in March 1973. But hey, I get it. We're getting old, memories fade. 😂😂😂
Cool reaction as well.
i Just LOVE You Guys !!! i Love your Reactions always ! Peace & Blessings to You !
YES more Pink Floyd. ANYTHING!!
How beautiful is that saxophone!? Whole album is an experience. Music is an amazing thing
Pink Floyd drew a lot of inspiration from gospel music, jazz and blues and fused them all together. They are definitely worth looking into. It's an experience when you listen to them. Wide range of emotions.
Named after 2 jazz and blues musicians..pink anderson and floyd council(im not sure about the spelling of council) .
@@deanhunt2691 I had no idea! Thank you!
I love seeing people experiencing Pink Floyd songs for the first time. I brings back the memories for the first time I heard them and where forever changed.
Grateful to have grown up listening to these beautiful souls and their amazing music!
Peace on ❤❤❤
"Haven't you heard it's a battle of words, and most of them are lies".....perfection.
You guys are awesome. You dont frequently interrupt the music or babble excessively over it, but really and deeply enjoy it. Which makes your reactions more genuine. Been listening to this since 1973 and have never tired of it.
I've been listening to Pink Floyd for years. And I still well up with emotion. Even had them on my ipod when running. "WE THE PEOPLE I SAY" 🤗🤗🤗
"Time" is my favorite Pink Floyd song. Also very deep.
I've been listening to them all my life it seems so refreshing to see you see what I saw in the 70s I love seeing your reaction
I’ve heard a few Pink Floyd songs and they are fantastic. Never heard this one before, amazing tune
Gary,,,,,,you've got a lot of catching up to do. 💥💥💥👍🤪
@Gary Noone Buy the CD, SACD LP. Have a glass of your favorite, hit play, and let it flow.
Allan Parsons was a major contributor to this album. Listen to Eye In the Sky, by the Allan Parsons Project, great tune.
yeah you've probably heard the ones i can't listen to any more, for being overplayed. those are their 'pop' songs played on every radio station. of course, that's not what they had in mind, those songs are still deep, powerful and ingenious. radio stations are unable to take you to the next level so you have to take it from there.
You should listen to the whole album, it can have a transformative effect on your life, no kidding. It's just that good, lol!
I'm crying with you! I'm 60, and have heard this a gazillion times, first when I was a child. I mist up often when listening to this incredible song.
We are labeled by others to divide us. That entire album just so classic& powerful!
Yes; A Masterpiece 💖
Damn, that sounds like a perfect day.
I've been listening to Pink Floyd all my life, and I still get emotional.
Thank you.
You guys are so awesome you figured that song out so well I love you guys I was born in nineteen sixty-seven I'm a surfer from San Diego and I'm so proud of y'all have a beautiful day you made me smile
I love it whenever someone new discovers great music. We can’t let this stuff die, especially this awesome ‘old’ music - make your kids listen too!
🍻
Pink Floyd music always move me, even after listening to them for forty years! Love your reaction to yet another classic Pink Floyd tune. When I go on a long road trip, I pop in this cd and the miles go by like nothing. Thanks for reaching! Love you guys!
I consider this album to be perfect from beginning to end. The first time I heard it probably around 1973 or 4 and I heard us and them honestly I cried too. I saw them twice in concert back in the day and I was blown away.
So cool to see younger generations get what we were getting in my youth. This stuff still hits me to this day, 50 years later.
If more people LISTENED to Pink Floyd, the world would be a better place.
Shawn and Mel great reaction to this wonderful song of pink Floyd , keep up the great work always a pleasure to visit best wishes 💙
I am a new subscriber.
born in1966 Pink Floyd has been my favorite as long as i can remember music..... THANK YOU for listening. GOD Bless
For your own benefits you HAVE to listen to the album in one go - each part is GREAT - but put together they turn into a MASTERPIECE - truly epic!
Wow, I've heard this song sooooo many times, but seeing you react with such emotion to the sound and the words... it brought emotions out that I'd not felt for a long time. Thank you for doing that. Oh, and Mel, your smile is amazing, I couldn't take my eyes off of you the whole time.
Best band ever. Their music takes you on a trip even stone cold sober - we called it head music in the 70’s
This is one of the greatest songs ever. Really has so much, heartfelt emotion in this song. Love PINK FLOYD, seen them in concert, mind blowing concert, probably all the pot, and drugs LOL. There will never be another PINK FLOYD!! ROCK ON.
Blows my mind to this day that these guys were so young then, but seemed to have a lifetime of memories to use to write their songs. Epic.
I'm 60yrs old and pink floyd is my first music love Dark Side of the moon was the first album I ever bought and they are timeless
"With. Without. And who'd deny, it's what the fighting's all about?"
That reminds me of my favorite U2 lyric: "So they say, this is the Golden Age. And gold is the reason, for the wars we wage."
Pink Floyd always deep! Not just masters of the craft but big hearts! Can't tell you how many times I went to sleep listening to this album when it came out. There is no better band IMO.
Many of the songs on this album flow into each other and should be heard all at once.
"Dark Side Of The Moon"
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Wish You Were Here😃 Shine on you Crazy Diamond. I love Pink Floyd. There aren't any bands like the bands from that era😶😔🌏🪐🍀🌕🙏🎶🦋🇦🇺👣🏡🌴❤️❤️❤️❤️ thanks for playing and your lovely reaction 🙏💕💕
Back in those days bands were just pounding out the notes, heavy solos, etc. PF puts soooo much space between their notes that just pulls you in. Even in their solos. This music was revolutionary back in the day BUT is timeless even to new listeners today.
You’re not the first to shed a tear to Pink Floyd, and I’m sure not the last,so glad you got it…..Great reaction 🤘
Pink Floyd is my favorite group of all time -- and even though Dark Side, for me, is an album that I've heard WAY too many times, *this* song will always be right up there with my favorites by them. Just so good.
All we are is human.... making our way through is life....
I can't believe it's been soo long since this album came out. We would only listen to it front to back and skip no track....usually very high. Saw them many times and was never disappointed.
this band knew how to take the time where its not so much about notes but about every note, perfection every time
Pink Floyd "Learning to fly" and "One slip" are my favorite songs by them. (studio version) 🙌
Yes, Mel, I felt it too, in 1977 when I was 16 years old. Never saw the world the same again. Pink Floyd, epic!! ❤
