- Today I'm flipping a cut flower bed! I'll be harvesting the rest of the triumph tulips for the nursing home, and replanting the area with Gladiolus.

Beautiful garden. Tulips are gorgeous!🌷🌷🌷❤️
I like the glasses you found for the bouquets - the shape of these really allowed the tulips to show beautifully. So many happy people are enjoying your generosity.
Love flowers not all are easyJet to grow 👍👍👍🧐🌻🌻🌼💐
Those arrangement of tulips are gorgeous 💗 What a lovely thing to do for the residents there☺️
I love Gracie!! I love our puppers keeping us company in the garden. The suggestion to use chicken wire as well for gladiolus was new for me. I use it for my tulips , but will make sure to use them on my gladiolus as well. I have the same squirrel problem. Happy gardening Danielle!😍🌸💐
Hi friend! 🙋🏼♀️ Your tulips are stunning! The bouquets will definitely be a welcomed addition to the nursing home. 💐 I planted a Prairiefire crabapple tree last year as well. I adore it...the color is brilliant! 🌸 Thank you for all your advice on how to grow gladiolus. This will be my first year. I'm excited! 👩🏼🌾
Awwwww, congrats on the article - how nice!!! Love your videos!! I know the nursing home residents appreciate your flowers - when my mom was in one where I live I would take them fruits they couldn't get and they would be so thrilled!! I am now doing some flower gardening and plan to do the same as you with my flowers!! God bless!
wow, your bulb lasagna pink/white flowers look like they are fake.. GORGEOUS!
Beautiful! Love that Gracie too 🐶 She's a good doggy 💚
Enjoyed this video and your Longfield article too! I am a glad fan and agree that they resemble orchids. Bring back the glads!
Congrats! And thanks for info in succession planting.
Thanks for podcast recs. I like to listen to them while driving and I know there's a lot of gardening vegetables etc podcasts but flowers specifically is nice
Will definitely be checking out that podcast & that blog! The tulip harvest looks great!
I just planted some glads yesterday and spaced them just like you did because I figured as a cut flower they could handle that small space. Thanks for confirming that I’m able to do that! 🤗🤗
Those tulips are beautiful Danielle I’ve made a note to get them for next year 🪴🌺🪴
Great video! Thanks for the info about rotating tulip beds, I’ll remember that! Love your Bulb lasagna planter, so gorgeous! This was the first year I had heard of that.
Congratulations on the blog! 💚👩🏼🌾
What a wonderful thing you do for the nursing home residence, you’re so sweet and kind. God bless you. I love your videos and always enjoy hearing about the special times you shared gardening with your grandma. I’m hoping my grandkids will get the gardening bug when they grow up. My children have, thank God; I did something right 😂
Enjoyed your video as usual
Congrats on the article! I’ll have to checkout the podcast, thanks for all the valuable info🌸☀️
Love your "grandma's" garden!
This came at such a great time. I also live in south-central PA and I'm going to plant some glads after work. Thank you!
I wonder how your garden will evolve when u get to a million subs❤
Ohhh those yellow ones are gorgeous! I have to say, I enjoy the tulips semiclose.... I am trying Gladioli this year for the first time and I am very excited, I watched a couple of your videos already in the past regarding Gladioli, they seem "easy" but you never know. Those wine containers seem to work great for you, what a great opportunity to re-use.
Those tulips are so pretty.
This video was so cute. Grace has a sweet disposition. Just a happy pup. Those tulips are gorgeous and i plan on doing the same with mine next spring. I ordered a ton and plan on donating and starting a small garden stand like yours! Such an inspiration.
Thank you for all the helpful information!
I'm new to your channel and love your content. Thank you for the tip on the chicken wire. I will defiantly be using that this year.
Side note... I noticed your hat! I live right next to Longwood Gardens! An incredible place! I love seeing what they do each season.
Those Lowes tulips are gorgeous and especially with the under planting of those sunny daffs. Both are already spent here and very shortly the pansies too. We have a lot of squirrels as well, especially with several hickory nut trees on our place. I usually have to add rocks as a mulch for my pots, but especially if I plant tulips. I hope the harvest is good this year!
Thanks for the podcast info too!
Thanks for the podcast recommendation!!
So beautiful. I just love gladiolus! Can’t wait to get mine in too! Just have to find a good spot 😊
I order more glads this year and I can’t wait for them. Thank you for the information on succession planting. I’m going to try it so that I have them all through the summer.
Love your tulips! Congrats on your article - well deserved :) I purchased glads to grow this season for the first time, I'm hoping I'll have a splendid display ;)
HI DANIELLE YOU HAVE SO MUCH INFORMATION. MY TULIPS HAVE BEEN SITTING IN MY GARDEN FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING IT'S TIME TO PULL THEM OUT!! 😂😂❤️❤️
THANKS
Lovely blog Danielle. To be honest, I've never been a fan of gladiolas. They're all over the farmers' market in the summer where I live and I get gladiola fatigue but I'm reconsidering after seeing your color suggestions. :)
Great idea on the chicken wire! Love a good deal. What time of year did you pick up those stunning peony like tulips so cheap? Dreamy!
Hmm...I think it was very late fall/ early winter. Maybe November? I remember they put them all on clearance and I bought a bunch. The next morning I woke up and thought I should go get more, but when I went back they were all gone!
I have a problem with squirrels and bulbs too.
Thank you!
Excellent info thanks!
I plant tulips every year and I love them so much. I'm in Ok in zone 7b and mine have been done for 8 weeks. I always hate to see them go!
My tulips that were interplanted heavily with daffodils and hyacinths, were left alone by the squirrels. Just an easy tip if anyone is interested and would like to give it a try.
Also where do you buy your glads from? The corms look like really high quality.
She got the gladiolus corms from Longfield Gardens. Look at her description box and there's a blog link to them. Go to their shop now menu. 🌼 🌸
Grace is just so cute, always love seeing her with you in the garden. Regarding the tulips opening too fast, do you think some light shade cloth would help slow them down from opening too fast? Just a thought!
I think that's a great idea Joyce. Thank you! I'll invest in some soon.
You are a wealth of valuable information and I really appreciate how much you share with us! So regarding planting and then covering with chicken wire.... would you do the same thing when it comes to planting tulips?
Where did you find the large faux terra cotta planter/urn?
You compost those beautiful tulip bulbs? 😭 Mine's come back every year and they're still as beautiful.
Link for your watering can? So cheerful
Thanks for the video. What spacing do you use for the gladiolus?
Hi there! For cutting I usually do 3 inches apart.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens Thank you for taking the time to respond💐
The only thing with tulips is that pollinators cannot go inside them due to how closed the petals are.
Why do you throw the tulip bulbs in the garbage??? Dont you plant them again in autumn?
Do I still need to rotate tulips in Florida? I and was planning on leaving them in the ground along with the dahlias, ranuculus, and gladiolus. This is my first year growing tubers or corms in this climate.
Your dog is so beautiful! Is she a silver labrador|?
A question on Tulip Fire -- if I am raising tulips in a bed, not necessarily in mass quantities for cutting, just for my own pleasure, should I still be worried about Tulip Fire as a threat to my garden bed? Thanks
So pretty 😁 can you not store the tulip bulbs til fall and plant again ? Curious because I planted up 2 big planters that are blooming now and would love to remove soon for my summer plants .? Is it because you aren't letting yours die all the way back ?
Hi Lorraine! I'm not leaving any foliage all the plant to replenish the bulb, so that's why I treat them as annuals. Some tulips come back better than others. If you are not harvesting yours for cut flowers you can certainly move them into the landscape. Darwin and triumph tulips come back decently. I have found emporers come back ok for a few years also.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens have no idea what they are, just a variety pack my husband put in my Christmas stocking this year, so I potted them up and they bloomed beautifully 😁 so I should dig them up when they are done and put in landscape now ?
@@lorrainecourtney4589 - I would pull them up closer to fall and transplant them. Fall is the time to plant Tulips and bulbs.
@@Sofi_CraftsandMore35 but these are my 2 big planters I would love to plant up now with summer annuals 😣
Is it possible to dig up tulips and store til fall ?
@@lorrainecourtney4589 have they turned yellow yet? If yes - you can dig up.
Lovely!! you said your 6b, which I am as well, though in Ontario Canada, so does it really matter where we are in the world is 6b the same everywhere?
Hi Kimberly! 6bs can have different frost dates and climates but plants that are hardy in our zone are hardy for the whole zone.
Will you put netting on the glads or stake them up somehow or do you find they don’t need it?
Hi Carissa - I may be in the minority- but I have never staked mine. I pick them when just two flowers are open, so they aren't as heavy as a fully open stem.
How do you keep the glads from sprouting (growing) when you wait several weeks to plant?) I got some the other day that were already growing so I assume if they are already growing, they should be planted right away.
Hey Don! I'll do my best to help. Are they sprouting in the bag for you? I would guess the area you're storing them in is a bit too warm. Try storing them in a cool dark place if possible, and plant any that have sprouted now if you are frost free. I hope that helps!
Hey there Danielle! I was just wondering, do you dig up your ranunculus corms at the end of the season to be reused? After they finish flowering do you still have time to replant the bed with something else to be harvested later in the season?
Hi there! I treat mine as an annual and as soon as they are done (usually late june here) I replace with pro cuts or another quick turn around cut. If you let the foliage die back you can save the corms for next year. What zone are you in friend? If you are in a warmer zone you may even be able to overwinter them.
Ah thanks! Just saw your reply! Sorry I keep asking the same thing lol! This is suuper helpful! Love your videos, youve got such a relaxing way of speaking
I am in 6b in Ontario Canada :)
Great video! Do you find that you will make a good profit as opposed to the cost of buying the bulbs? And do you buy them in bulk? What colors sell the best for you?
Hi Teresa! As long as I purchase in high quantiies and more desirable forms - yes. The price break for bulbs is usually around 500.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens Oh, that's a pretty good profit! Love watching your videos!
Why can you reuse the bulbs?
Do you use treated wood for your raised beds? I am getting ready to build some and would love to know what works best.
Hi there! Yes, these are ground treated wood. My hubby made them about three years ago - the ones in back are four years old. So far, so good!
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens Thank you
Do you have problems with thrips and your gladiolus?
Hi Holly! Yes, I do have thrips. When I find any area that gets thrips I remove the corms and solarize that planting area. Crop rotation seems to help as well as not having huge rows. They are very hard to control organically.
