I really love this idea. I do hope you will consider doing more of these videos, including one on zinnias. There are so many choices out there! I am particularly hoping you will let us know which ones pollinators like bees, hummers and hummingbird moths are particularly attracted to...

I love gladiolus!! Espresso is an amazing color ❤️. I have a bunch of them and adore them! I had two glads pop up last season. There was one pastel pink petal and the rest were a lovely pastel yellow. I'm not sure if they came in a mix, but they are my most treasured bulb! I dug them up and two new full bulbs formed along with about thirty baby bulbs. I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom this year! 😍

Love gladioli. I grow them on my allotment in the UK. I don’t use the specialist growers but buy them from the supermarket. They are very cheap and add cheerful colour to my plot. Sometimes I leave them in the ground over winter but I think they do better if lifted and I sort out and save the larger corms. I have started them in several ways - straight in the ground, grown in individual pots or set in trays until they shoot and then transplanted. Thank you for showing all the beautiful blooms.

    BonJour,

I grew gladiolus for the first time last year and was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to grow particularly in our short growing season in Edmonton, Canada zone 3b. I grew Nori and Lumiere and loved them both. I have stored the corms for the winter and will try potting them up in the spring to give them a head start and then try some right in the ground for succession planting. @@NorthlawnFlowerFarm It makes me smile so much every year. She told me they were a mix when she bought them but that the reds were the strongest and the only ones that bloomed for many years. It's the craziest thing and I can't figure it out, but the first year I planted them 99% were bubble gum pink, the next year they were pale pink and last year they were a mix (pinks, purples, yellow, red, etc). One of my biggest pet peeves is misrepresentation of color when purchasing flowers. My Green Star was very yellow, pretty but definitely not green. Tricolore is one I will pass on long field has it pictured as a red and purple it is not and I wasn’t happy with the color that grew. I can’t wait to try Costa and Lumiere. I will have to try Espresso. I have been on the hunt for a black/maroon glad for years. I have purchased black beauty from many different suppliers and got everything from a red like the amaryllis behind you to a salmon color. My absolute favorite glad in my garden is Alaska. I purchased a bunch of glads from longfield last year but only about half produced flowers 🤷‍♀️ I dug up and separated the corms to store this winter. Do you think the corms will produce blooms this year even if they did not last year? Cream perfection is gorgeous 🤩

Hi friend! I would call customer service and let them know that. From what I have experienced they will make it right. Was it a specific variety that did not bloom at all? Or a widespread issues over multiple varieties? Did the corms produce a healthy daughter corm on top of the mother corm when you dug them?

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm so sweet of you to reply. It was their sorbet blend so a few varieties within the blend. I believe the corms produced looked healthy. If they look healthy should I replant this year? I may try a new variety you shared in this video. I actually decided to give them a try last year after watching you

I'm growing them for the first time this year (in Australia, so summer here). They're quite weird plants - at first they're nice and straightforward with upright leaves, but now they've gone all stiff and a bit twisted and I can see the first sign of the inflorescence peeping through. A learning curve for sure..lol I must look into whether I can save the corms or what.. Thanks Danielle!

You can save the bulbs. I don't even dig mine up for the winter because I'm in Zone 9B Southern California.

The ones I thought were beautiful are: Cream Perfection, Vista, and Isabella. I have glads in my garden and over-wintered them without digging them up. I don't dig up dahlias either -- the pleasure of living in Zone 9B. Be well!

Hi Nicole! I loved this video. I'm thinking about trying some glads again this year. I have some planted that I purchased at Walmart in a multi pack. They are up against the fence of my veggie garden.
My question is, where would you recommend planting them in the garden so that they are less likely to flop? Do they all require staking? Thank you!!

Well I’m glad we didn’t check out from longfield yet 🙄😆 was considering buying a few specialty gladiolus corms and now you’ve convinced us! Loved the variety mix we grew this past season. Pretty sure that was vista in the mix and that was our favorite!

Great, now I need to get all the Glads you just showed, thanks a lot LoL. Don't know if Longfields delivers to Canada but I sure need to get that Costa One! Hope I can find it. Also do you overwinter your Glads? If so can you do a video on this. Love your show Danielle ❤ from 🇨🇦

Hi there! It's advisable to dig up glads here in 6b, but I never have in 13 years and they always come back. I do dispose of any that become infected with thrips. I hope you have a great day!

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm Interesting, Im a zone 5b, so that might be pushing it a bit but think I'll try to leave a few in the ground and see what happens. Thanks for your reply.

Great video I learned some new things. I am going to try a new to me type of glads: Gladiolus nanus - Hardy Dwarf Mix. They are said to be a hardy type, that may be perennial in my zone. We shall see, but they are very pretty either way.

You know, I tried gladioli last year for the first time and I was in love! I purchased “plum tart” because it was supposed to be a darker reddish purple one, it turned out to be a very hot pink 🙃 it was pretty but what I was expecting, the picture that it was shown to me was more like the espresso you grew, so this year I’m definitely gonna try espresso and I’m trying to find a creamy yellow as well, we will see! Such a great guide you made here!

After watching this, I ordered 3 varieties from Longfield Gardens. They just arrived, I am in Zone 8b and plan on getting the first succession planted now. Do you recommend soaking the corms first?

I tried to get cream perfection too but it was sold out already. I did get green star a beautiful chartreuse and banana ice which is a beautiful white & lemon yellow but from the pictures I get hints of chartreuse. We'll see!

Thank you. 6b here on the other side of PA. I have never liked glads, but after following you, I might just have to try them. Scared of the dreaded thrips. Have you made a video about preventing them?

After the show I went on the hunt for Katherine and the Cream Perfection and found them in France. At 2 am in europe I made the order! Looking forward to see them in bloom. The Black Jack I spoke of looks so much like Expresso or Black Sea so maybe these are all the same variety. Now on the hunt for Costa!

I had a gladiolus that, what can I say? It looked like mud and I believe it's called Guinea. The stock picture was beautiful though. I have a row of irises that I've been throwing out with the same problem. I wish sellers showed more accurate pictures. I don't really like a close up picture of a bloom. It doesn't give you a clear idea of what it'll look in the landscape. This is why I always try to find buyer's photos when possible.
