I had a bunch of my bulbs fall short of what i expected for my usual bouquet bunches. Sooo, i grabbed a bunch of the shorties with some filler and a few jelly size mason jars...voila! Perfect for a personal desk bouquet or small front reception office. Sometimes, a full $20 bouquet seems like a splurge for a small office or small apartment. These $10 shorties are a beautiful touch for a quick gift or pick-me-up without seeming extra.
You can still dry store the tulips without the bulbs still attached. Some growers are in the bulb-on and some are in the bulb-off camp. Was listening to Jennie Love's Podcast about tulips and she stores thousands of tulips without the bulbs, so I stored all of mine that way for 3-4 weeks in the fridge to hold for Mother's Day and they rehydrated great! So try it next season. 🥀
I agree on this - we are flower farmers that sell at Pike Place Market in Seattle. We have been doing this for 30+ years, and the way we harvest our tulips is similar to above statement. We're not a big company but operate at a family level; We pull each tulip out, only the ones with color tip, and then bunch them in 12-20 stems, then rubber band them on the bottom. Next, we gather them, wrap them in paper, and place 4-6 bundles in a bucket (no water). The tulips are stored in the cooler at 37 degrees. We do this for all our tulips a month before Mother's Day. A day before selling we unwrap them, cut a little off the bottom tip, put them in water, and voila, they come to 'life" ready for selling; The tulips that bloom too fast are sold in the market. So yeah, hopefully that helps some folks who's getting into flower farming :) :)
So much hard work but definitly a labor of love. I want an armful of stunning tulips! Great job on your hard work. Have you thought of doing you tube "shorts" on all your monthly bouquets? I bet you'll get lots of views.
Your soil is amazing. And I'm learning about flower farming tulips now. 4 years into it with 2 years sales ,so I'm getting there ! I swear when I go to heaven I will do his gardens. You are awsome!
These tulip flowers are so beautiful . I wish I live near you so that I can stop by and pick up them Love your garden and hard work , the cat is so cute , too . Happy to all !
You can dig the bulbs once the foliage die back, use the space in summer for something else, store the bulbs in basement and plant them in fall, there is no need for the bulbs to be in the ground during the summer.
I can totally relate to the "pop and the UGHHHH" when the Tulip comes out without the bulb (the Florist that I sell to really appreciates if the bulb is still attached, so I try my best!)! I thought I had a lot this year...2,000 for me! It was a crazy, beautiful season! Hope your Tulip sales are great!
@@YouCantEatTheGrass You did an amazing job pulling them out! I have found that after a rain they are easier, and planting in compost can be helpful too. Enjoyed seeing your lovely blooms and super sales!
Thanks for telling me that there is a tulip that bears my mother’s maiden name! I must get some next fall. Right now I am enjoying this year’s spectacular flowers, partly in containers on my deck. I am mildly obsessed with getting even more next year. Loving this video and sharing it. Carry on making the world a more beautiful place!
Whoah that looks like so much work! They look amazing though! I loled at how your smile with the armful of tulips went from "YAY" to "yeah yeah let's get on with it" with every location :D
Thank you for sharing about your day-to-day hard work on the farm and selling your product. As a serious home gardener, I appreciate it and wish you both the best! One small recommendation - Ian might want to consider protecting his hearing when driving posts into the ground (or using any mechanized tools). Over time, such loud sounds can result in hearing loss. In this case, an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.
Hey you guys! I stored half my tulips bulb on, half cut. When I brought them out of storage 3 weeks later, I couldn’t see any difference in performance. I wish I had a farm stand though!!
I wish I was close to your farm for I would buy your bulbs, dry them and have a garden of flowers next year. Just smaller and not very long stems would make me so happy for a few weeks!
I agree with some comments that short tulips look wonderful in petite bouquets 💝sometimes they are even more cheerful because they are at different eye level! Maybe worth trying to sell those as well?
We have one on order now. It's definitely time to get one. I've been avoiding it in the past years because my son is very interested in helping, and it would be hard to keep him away, but he's older now, and they also have locks on them to keep it safe when I'm not using them
Could you install a ring doorbell in your little farm shop so you can see when the flowers are sold. You would get notifications when someone is there. 😀
Loved the well timed editing of Ian putting in the T posts. Gorgeous tulips and great bouquet making. I'd love to see some perrenials along the fence by the farm stand. Would be beautiful and attract customers💜 Keep up the good work👍
I think you should paint the fence of farm stand from white to flower images. People passing by will definitely notice the farm stand and Some of them end of buying some flowers. I guess multiple colors of tulips will do the job...
Yep get all the pictures this year while you can!! I think I'm going to try the raised tuilp bed this fall. I lost over half my tulip crop this year. 😭
Beautiful! They are so much better than last year! Glad they have better stems for you. Mine are not up at all. It makes me nervous but it’s still so cold here. Hopefully soon they come up.
I really enjoyed this video! Those bouquets are beautiful! (I’m from southeastern Pennsylvania; wish you guys were closer!🌷) congrats on a successful farm stand!
I love your videos and your flower arrangements. I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. Your cats are great too. My cat loves to be with me when I’m working in the yard too! ❤️
Are you able to hang a sign beside your name on the fence? It may look cool to have a big TULIP sign to promote there and maybe change it out from product to product.
Oh my god my favorite flower tulips 👍.Wow you deserved more I mean after you cut them you need to go and sell in supermarket restaurant any store they are lovely
Haha Serina saying 4000-5000 tulips are a good amount for the work involved...then on the Livestream..."Ian, I need 14,000!" Love it! Well maybe with the raised beds they will be less work to harvest next year. Can't wait for the new growing season on the farm... without vegetables for sale will be interesting though. Blessings, -Kate
Hi ... Love all your videos Wanted to know how long does tulips bloom? Where do you buy the bulbs ? What temperature it has to be for storing in refrigerator and how long can we store it ?
I truly think that the only thing holding the road side shop back is the curb appeal. The fence on both sides are just begging for landscape images. There is so much space you could even do the different seasons along them. Maybe look for a high school or college art student(s). Who knows, they might even do it for no cost for experience and marketing of their skills. 😁
I’ve always put 3 copper pennies in the water with tulips to keep them standing up and they usually last surprisingly well I literally have no idea why though😂😂
It mast be so exciting to get your first returns for all the planning and vision ❤️I felt so excited for your first sale :). I wonder why red don’t sell well? Look wonderful to me :). keep doing what you are doing 🌻
If Nicole is a crazy chicken lady, you're a crazy cat lady, LOL! Serina, you have to give credit to your ingenious and hard working man who made that cooler and thus enabled all this to be happening:))))

Agree !
Luckily, even our short ones ended up being long enough once we pulled the stem. But that is a great trick for using what you gave
Don't you just love that sound of harvesting tulips. God I can't wait for spring 2023

I wish so much “cha-ching” for you guys this season. You won’t know what to do with it. As always, your hard work shows.

The tulips looks beautiful! Interesting how growers dig up bulb and all. I love tulips!
It's for being able to store them for long periods of time in a cooler, and still have them be fresh and perfect
OMG I loved the editing on Ian pounding the stakes in :D Made me laugh. Great job guys, your flowers look amazing and your bouquets even better!
Lovely video. I love the flower stand.
So nice to see your farm stand in action! Way to go :):)

Good luck guys! Hope you sell a lot this season…
I really wait for your video ... Those tulips were so lovely☺️☺️
Those flowers are amazing. 😍 Great choice of varieties. What a wonderful start of the season.
Really nice bouquets, Serina.
Very pretty! Tulips are the only flowers that continue to grow after they’ve been cut☺️
It's so weird to see them getting longer in the vase
Beautiful flowers as usual hope you did well on mothers day
You should get a stem chopper like Nicole at Flower Hill Farm has. You're all about efficiency this year!
I was saying the same thing lol!
