So obviously we aren't the first people do to this ever. Beck told us we were probably the first people to do it ourselves with their own kits. Every other time the owners have opted for final assembly at their facility.
First like? wow
Was that TV on the right channel?
Not a problem when you have a Wizard on your side! But finally the Beck build!!
Vcr likely has a dirty head. Take some Iso Alcohol and give it a good clean and you may find its alot better.
How can I buy your conversion van, when you are done with it? My father in law had one back in the day and is currently in need of a new car and this would be perfect! Please help us out!
The way Wizard 🧙♂️ said, “you gotta choose TV super star or get your car done”. 😂😂😂
Shots fired!
Yeah, that was funny. And how much help is Hoovie gonna be? He just gets in the way. I know it makes good content for his channel but I like it when the pros a.k.a. The Wizard take over and it gets done.
Keep the CL65! It's a dream mercedes from the 00's that's never going to be made the same way again, with that awesome V12 TwinTurbo!
Yes, keep it ...... right up to the point it breaks.
this aged well
The vcr you got in that van is fine it's not broken. The problem you are facing is because when vcr's are sitting for a long time they tend to collect dust inside and that is the reason why you have that snowing screen. Take off the top cover of the vcr and "carefully" try to clean all the parts with alcohol using a q tips or whatever they called that you are cleaning your ears with. Mainly try to clean the chrome wheel in there it's very important that it's super clean. Once you do that put the tape back in and enjoy the movie)
Need to run a VHS head cleaner through there first I reckon!
Thrift stores are usually overflowing with old VHS players👍
It's funny how they are clueless about VHS and VCR's...LOL I still have a VCR, still have family movies on tape. I got most converted over to the PC but still you never know.
@@Meekerextreme LOL you never know what?
@@Desertfox92308 true, but that may be a 12v player, plus it’s the original one. Better to see if that one can be saved, no?
Probably needs something stronger, open the VCR lid and clean the reading head with a microfiber tissue sprayed with glass cleaner works like magic.
Wizard probably was like "Hoovie is gone for two weeks, we can finally start to work on his cars without getting distracted all the time"
Yeah... until he gets magically transported to wherever Hoovie is like in Car Trek!
The Wizard was at Barrett Jackson. I saw him. He is recognizable even with a mask on.
Hoovie: "To give a little background on my BJ experience"
Me: There has got to be a better way to say that...
Right ? So Hoovie, enlighten us about your BJ experience.
@@daftboy11 and on live (?) tv?
That's absolutely the best way
I believe I heard 'DJ experience.' Hoovie knew about 'dead air' and had to get his powers of speaking somewhere professional.
“I’m not a VCR repairman.” - Hoovie
Understatement of the century.
Explain
The technology inside a vcr is majic
Didn't specify which century...
I was watching Barret-Jackson with my dad, as we always do, and I lost it when I saw you, and went on a binge showing my dad your videos. He loves it, said it reminds him of himself and my uncle!
"I'm not a VCR Repairman"
And then, just like that, I got excited for a Red Letter Media collab.
Cut to the van being on fire and Mike sweating nervously, "It'll probably be another week."
Auto-themed BOTW with Ed, Hoovie, and the RLM boys would be a dream
their services would ruin both hoovie and the wizzard
As an fellow 80's child I am disappointed that you cant recognize a VCR tracking issues when you see one. Before auto trackers we were masters at those manipulating those little rotors to get the video as good as possible.
happy to see this was covered :-)
You can clean the heads on the VCR very easily by first removing the top cover. Then use Q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol clean the outside vertical surface of the big round polished aluminum head, paying particular attention to the spots which look like there are windings embedded on the surface. Just make sure you don't leave any Q-tip fibers on the head. I learned this back in the '90s when I was a military journalist working in a couple different tropical locations. We constantly had to clean the heads on our cameras and video playback machines due to the humidity. Good luck!
Big Lucille Bluth energy: “It’s an alternator Michael, how much could it possibly cost? $1000?”
Anyone else hear Lucille's voice while reading this comment?
Hey Wizard try to adjust the "tracking" on the VCR
It needs an alignment
Put in a DVD player.
Yes, that’s it. The tracking. Oh the memories......
And clean the heads on the VCR.
Adjusting the tracking was my first thought. Using a cleaner tape would be my second. Wizard you have to be kidding us. Surely you know how to fix a VCR.
You need the tracking adjusted and the heads need cleaned with alcohol.
Definitely a tracking problem indeed ! ;)
See if the unit has a manual tracking dial. Long swabs and alcohol to clean the heads.
I was going to say the same thing.
I was wondering if they were on channel 2 or 4 instead of 3 for the input.
@@secard4202 there's a channel Select on the back of the VCR most likely... they probably do need to run a head cleaner on it anyway.
The way that tape played, brought me back to the old days of SPICE network...
It’s the tracking of the vcr guys.
Damn, that spyder looks gorgeous.
“I’m not a VCR repairman”
I know two guys in Milwaukee that I’ve heard great things about. You should call them.
If he schedules an appointment now, he might have his VCR back in time to tape the 2028 election.
P L I N K E T T
Those homosexuals still haven't fixed my VCR after THIRTEEN YEARS !
HOW ELSE CAN I WATCH MY PRECIOUS NIGHT COURT TAPES ?!
Adjust the tracking on the vcr! There is usually some buttons that adjust that
Totally.
I thought they tried that.
Or how about upgrading to the 2000's and put a DVD in there?
@@jessielivermore1826 What’s the point in upgrading? The whole point of the van is because it’s like the van he had when he was a kid. Why waste money on a stupid DVD player? It’s not like he doesn’t have another 5 cars that have modern backseat tvs
@@BlakeGibbons Good point.
6:56 that's not a VCR, that's a 90's Pay-Per-View channel.
Haha 😂
I'm SO excited for this Porshbaru project!! Can't wait to see the final demo video once it's complete and racing down the road!
The last time I was this early the Ml55 was still in the woods.
Josh Perkins last time I was this early you could use your car as a mini golf course!
Are we going to see footage of this BJ experience, assuming it's allowed on UA-cam?
6:42 - You have to adjust the tracking on the VCR, and switch what channel its on. VCR basics here guys...
Except the audio comes through fine via direct output. The TV's got a blown cap in the receiver section somewhere. If tracking was that badly off on the VCR the audio would be completely mangled.
Think Hoovie and Wizard were born after VCRs we’re still in use 😀
@@mfree80286 My guess it is on the wrong channel on the tv itself. I remember back in the day had the same thing happen. TV was switched to channel 2 when it was supposed to be channel 3.
Just saw you on the Barrett Jackson auctions introducing an LFA as I'm watching this video! It's great to see all of the different projects you dive into while being heavily involved in the community. Thanks for all the awesome videos 🤘
Need to adjust the (tracking) on the vcr guys
How soon they forget - the audio seems fine so the head isn’t toast
that's what I was thinking!
@@dmacpher That's because the audio comes from a fixed separate head rather than the helical scan drum.
@@kh103 Aren’t they combined on cheap modes?
Flags back to 6 head vcr marketing
The heads on the vcr are dirty clean them and it will be fine
I agree 100%
or the tracking
@@AntonyKonnarides1 very true maybe both
Or just get a new one out on Amazon or Ebay for $20.
Gat a tape cleaner, its a tape you put in and it cleans it
i remeber this like it was yesterday and im 33 now i think the vcr just needs to be cleaned what a thorwback it just brought back so many memories
Congratulations on your Barrett Jackson gig, you are a natural at it and a good talker.
Thanks for posting.
The VCR needs to be cleaned that happens all the time especially when it's in a Dusty car
Yep, the heads will be filthy. Send it off to NorCal715 on UA-cam, he is great with old vcr's.
Exactly tracking and a good cleaning
I'm glad how well this channel has grown and stuff but I still kinda miss the original house the giant storage building and the cheap cars
If you've watched his recent videos you know he is returning to his roots
@@mitchellsteindler I have but still
He's channel is growing well. Must be he's BJ experience
Yeah. I don't need updates on cars being worked on. I'd like to see more car reviews and crazy antics.
@@derpymcderpster3447 I do like seeing the updates of the cars being worked on but I do like the 90s 80s 2000s hoopties
Your van is the best year and example I've seen and I've owned 7 of them and currently have 2.
You can't beat the rainbow transmission and and all the simplicity in that year combined with luxury and space. 👍😊
"But when we try to play a tape..." A commercial comes on interupting me viewing this video. I'd say that's a serious problem.
Yes that it is. Would unsub for that was I a subbie.
Fot the TV in the van... Just change the cable connecting both. That might work!
Yeah thats what i thought also 👍👍
Wizard said "I haven't driven it, ice on the roads" I cracked up when Hoovie responds "Let's take it for a spin!" Had visions of him spinning all over the place on the icy road!
The bluey silver paint on the Porsche Spyder is stunning.
Cant wait !! To see the Speedster running. Thank you for video !
The old VCRs have an adjustment on the tracking
It can be Tracking, Dirty Head, bad tape etc. First would be to see if tracking buttons but also pop in another tape. Takes a few seconds. You got to go pretty far back for manual tracking though although the unit in the Van was probably a lower end unit and not a $500 unit from the day.
This issue looks worse than tracking. Not convinced it's the VCR anyway, the TV had a ton of snow on it with no signal and the snow was still there with a signal.
Yes, he should try this. It also might be worth changing the channel. If he tried it on channel 4 for example but it is supposed to be channel 3 then it could look like that.
Tell wizard to try cleaning the heads on the vcr .
Dirty head, it's probably super moldy. He just needs a wet cleaning cassette. I have one but i don't think they're gonna call me nor see this comment lol
This is such a wholesome relationship between Hoovie and Wizard. They both support each other symbiotically.
I love that WIzard's shop works on anything from beaters to Lamborghinis and seems to take good care of whatever you bring in
Great chemistry between these Guys again. Thanks for the video!
Barrett Jackson guy: "What the hell is that?! Get Hoovie the Hooptie Master!"
That TV screen reminds me of being 13 & trying to view a naughty channel on a rabbit ear antenna....lol
Also nostalgic having to wait to see it actually turned on... we're so used to instant response nowadays. Ah, the good old CRT days...
😂😂😂
I used to do this, and my mother would bust me, yelling from the other room to my older brother and I "....you boys aren't watching those sKiN fLiCkS again, are you..?!?"
@@MetalTrabant Yeah and the old CRT's didn't have video inputs just coaxial.
Mercedes and Subaru content all in one video... nice!👌👍
Larry @ CIS-Flowtech is the man, had him rebuild my K-jetronic system top to bottom. Super cool and a walking encyclopedia of these antique Bosch injection systems.
Wizard looked nervous with Tylers driving.
Was looking forward to this one. And it’s quite proper to put a boxer engine in a Porsche ( yes I know it’s not a real one ).
They might as well could've put a real modern Porsche engine in there... not sure it would fit though, but worth a try.
I miss those van my family had one win is was a kid. I learned how to drive in, may great memories I am ready for another one to share with my kids.
Love those '90's Mercedes, just can't help myself, of course the 92 400E is, you guessed it, on the way to the shop, oh well. Good to see you two hanging out together, stay safe.
Loved " the wizards" expression when tyler was driving & stomped on it. Priceless. LMAO
Use a video tape head cleaner a couple of times, the type with a cleaning fluid. Should fix the problem.
Some of the better VCRs had a head adjust dial, but I doubt this one will.
The tv tuning should also be finetuned.
Congratulations Tyler. I've been watching your channel pretty much from Day 1. Glad to watch your success!
About the VCR: dirty heads. Easy solution: use a long cotton swab with alcohol and put it inside the device and clean the equipment there. You'll see the cotton coming out rusty or even black. Better solution: remove the top cover from the VCR and do the cleaning from there. In both cases make sure the alcohol evaporates from the reading heads before inserting a cassette. Good luck.
lmfaooo the wizards face when the mercedes trans did some weird stuff lmao 14:42
i love Wizard's tone of voice, he sounds like he is on valium or something)
WOW prickly energy between you two in this one. Please don't break up! Love you guys
Thanks for another entertaining update video. You guys make a great team.
It’s a sad day in Hoovie Ville when Tyler has more reliable running cars than the Stradman. 😂😂😂

Car Wizard is like a Garage for your cars.
You’re so blessed to have a mechanic/ friend like the Wizard.
being from north jersey watching all the nothing in the background amazes me...how its just huge fields, no buildings or anything... i wish i lived there, maybe i wouldnt be afraid to get a motorcycle
When wizard said 3 series were the worst my heart shattered 🤕😢
10:34 this line is so true!
Who's old enough to remember when VCR and TV repair shops were a thing?
Oh man, remember when remotes used to have a "tracking" button.
Hoovie, to fix the video tracking open the VCR and replace the flux capacitor. It’s located near the turboencabulator. You owe me a solid.
Wow! I love the van & the Woody
VCR has blocked heads on the rotating drum. Pop the lid, spray the tiny head slots with cleaner and you'll blast the bits of oxide shed from worn tape away and it'll be fine!
When you are dealing with Barrett Jackson there are numerous BJs happening....!!!!
More like buggering.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH no no, BJ's.
It hurt me deep down when the Wizard said that 3-Series are the worst :(
Agreed. That was BS and it lit a big fire deep down since until the e90 nothing 3 series was horrible that you couldnt fix it with basic tools. Except for the fuel tank replacement on the m56 they e46 was typically sold since most had m54s
@@JAYD3EChannel Exactly, they're not that bad, I'll admit my E90 has had it's days, but even that hasn't been too difficult to work on, even with some limited knowledge.
Used to clean VCRs. Just take cover off VCR, get bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol, and use Qtip rubbed against the head (silver wheel). Keep dipping in alcohol and rubbing on head ( wheel). Then all points that video tape routs to. Rinse and repeat. 100% fix.
1995 after getting my first job after graduating fron university I got my first "nice" car in life, a 1986 300SE. I remember I found the car was so incredibly smooth and luxurious! Only drawback really was the lack of low end power and the low gearing making revs annoyingly high when cruising at highway speed. These cars really need a V8 to get that more luxurious effortless feel!
Really wanted to see the full install on the roadster.
Nothing has been recorded..??.
Love those old Benz’s. Best cars ever made. Period.
This is going to sound stupid, but my ultimate dream car is a W201 190E 2.3-16. At least it's an achievable dream!
How thing do change!
That vacuum system doesn't sound very clever though... they've made the same mistake as Citroen with hydraulics back in the days. A little leak could cause great problems...
I am really enjoying the Beck Speedster/Subie build.
My own experience with BMW is with only one car, but it is diametrically opposed to the Wizard's. I am the third owner of a '99 328i (E46), which has all the M goodies except for the engine (which I don't need or want). It had 89K on the clock when I bought it in '15, has 176K now, and has had almost NO problems. It's the best car I've ever owned.
When i seen the snow on the TV ..
I had flashBacks to poltergeist 💯

A little background on Hoovie's BJ experience: Tavarish said he has great technique...
You should read this line again but substitute Blow Job for Barrett Jackson!! LOL!!!
Cool seeing you on Barrett-Jackson. Your videos are very nice to look forward to seeing thank you for your effort
In the conversion van. The vcr is just dirty and needs the tracking set. For the tracking, there should be a set of buttons or a dial on the vcr(or remote) to dial it in(then clean if you want). If not, replace it with a dvd player (still old school like the van).
The VCR heads might need cleaning as well as adjusting, or they might be too worn,
We're making no comments on any BJ experience.
i will - went to a bon jovi gig last year, didn't like it.

The wizard finally wore his seat belt! Glad to see that, the automotive world needs you wizard!
Make sure it's on the right channel. i.e. TV probably needs to be on channel 3 or 4 as it uses the coax input unless TV has actual video input. If you have a modern TV with a coax, try it instead to rule out/confirm if TV or VCR is having issues.
I usually go to my auto mechanic to have my TV/VCR diagnosed.
Older BMW’s drain my wallet, I am switching to older Benz’s, what can go wrong?
