I went ahead and made this Bilge public, because a live chat will cover up Randy’s face with how this episode was framed. He’s a little too far to the right and we don’t want his face to be covered if we did a premiere with live chat. While you are here - watch my last vlog hunting for rattlesnakes. It’s a good vlog that is not just fishing. Maybe my favorite non-fishing vlog.

To clarify, you mean his head in the camera frame is too far to the right. Reading this at first I thought it meant, too far to the right on the political spectrum. And that was confusing. Then it dawned on me, it was a photography and not a political thing.

Tournaments are out of control. These fisheries get absolutely hammered, especially here in Florida where I live. I am an hour from the Harris Chain which is just terrorized during Jan, Feb and March. College, high school, and professional all beat that chain to death. Kissimmee and Okeechobee get the same pressure.

I live in Central Florida and I don't know if there is really any statistics, creel reviews, shocking samples to verify if tournament fishing has adversely affected the fisheries. I am a scientist and anecdotal thoughts don't impress me that much. Florida should concentrate more on these great resources. The fact that Lake Apopka has come back in my lifetime is truly remarkable.

Bass should be catch and immediately release at the federal level. States need to ban FFS, or at the very least make it so any boat equipped with FFS means you have to catch & immediately release only.

@@Kendrix1 the spraying is what kills Fl lakes truly. The water levels have always gone up and down but the abuse of chemical spraying is what burns these lakes down.
Let the Hydrilla grow and you can throw all the fishing pressure you want at a fishery like that. Look at orange lake for example.

I've been watching Randy's channel around 3 yrs now. I like it as much now as I did in beginning. He keeps his vids simple, not over produced. About fishing & his opinions. As a viewer I want to hear his opinion because of his experience. I may not agree with all of them but that's to be expected. We're all different. That's how we learn by listening to others ideas & things we wouldn't had thought of. I find it funny when people get all upset about a difference of opinion, it only shows their immaturity & how close minded they really are.. this is also my favorite fishing podcast. Good collaboration!

I do, however, agree with his thoughts on FFS, for more than a few reasons. Here’s where Randy is wrong. Legislation is not the best way to stop things. If you think that then you don’t really understand the American legislative process. An elected official who won a popularity contest, is usually a part time legislator at the state level, and is not an expert in the field can’t make educated decisions about business or the environment. The fact that they get anything done is amazing. It’s the people who have the power. Want to stop Tyson from polluting the lake then educate people and form a boycott. Because legislation moves slow by design and can’t be written to fix everything and these companies will find a loop hole around it. But hit them in their profit margin and they will change.

I agree. Same thing happened with duck hunting. Because of poor wording guides can partially harvest a corn field(landing zone and shooting lanes) and flood the field up the the ears and can fo it because it's "normal agriculture practices". Then if the freeze up comes early they use irrigation pumps to pump up thousands and thousands of gallons a day of 60deg ground water to keep their intentionally flooded fields from freezing over. Then take out 2 groups every day and limit out their clients. Should all be illegal but poor worded laws are easily worked around and perfectly legal unfortunately.

I've been suggesting the same thing to BASS. The only difference is that I believe mapping and regular 2D and side imaging (including knowing water temp and depth) can be kept in the event itself. From my view, FFS, on the other hand, which promotes video game fishing, should be allowed in practice to see how the fish respond to different baits and presentations before being banned in the event.

As a 64 year old who has seen a lot of change not only in bass fishing but in turkey hunting and bow hunting too. When I was a kid you hardly ever heard of people catching big bass much less a lot of bass. Same with turkey and deer. But when vhs came out all of a sudden a bunch more people started turkey hunting and bow hunting. And the conservation started selling more tags and it became more about money. Bottom line in all of it is money. And now you have technology in there too. Man I don’t know what the answer is. I’ll leave that to smarter minds than mine

So u got data proving that claim? That It's not actually hurting anything or we suppose to just trust ur word lol? You do realize it takes time to ruin a fishery at least 10 years unless ur poisoning the lake but. In 10 years we'll see if thats the case. Fish don't just disappear over night. They will tho over time as u deplete the good genetics from the lake by killing more larger fish. Which live scope has been responsible for and there was a study done on the michigan lakes proving that more larger fish are dying from the use of livescope. Which then ruins the genetics of a fishery over time. Which then creates a mass amount of small fish that will deplete the forage in the lake and keep those larger fish from actually having enough forage to ever get big again. All that I mentioned doesn't happen over night or in a year or 2 or 3. The michigan livescope study alone was 5 years just to get the data.

Best comment was about permits. That NEEDS to happen for a variety of reasons on some lakes. Hundreds of boats on the lake every weekend in tournaments, and then add in any rec traffic and its just a disaster out there. The DNR needs to go shock during a 200+ boat tournament weekend in June and see what they find. Totally different than when they shock in the "off season".

My issue with Randy isn’t his opinions on various topics, it’s how he takes a fact or a happening in the world of fishing and try’s to spin that to push his narrative. For example, he constantly bitches bout how smallmouth tournaments are won by dragging a drop shot looking at your electronics and if livescope went away then guys would be able to catch them over open water burning spinner baits again. Yes it’s true you have to drag a drop shot to win smallmouth, HOWEVER, electronics have nothing to do with it, it has everything to do with the forage the smallmouth are eating. They aren’t chasing big bait anymore, they’re forging themselves on Gobies sitting on the bottom. So livescope or not, you’d still have to drop shot to win these tournaments. Go watch KVD fish up north in 08/09, he’s dragging a drop shot.

I’ve been interviewed by one of those TP&W biologist on Fork a few times for my LMB results and I was truthful. I just wondered how many people give them BS. On the crappie catch rate per angler with FFS I talked to a crappie guide on Fork recently that uses FFS and he has a love/hate relationship with it. He loved it when he first started using it but quickly realized everyone else was using it to and a lot of his holes no longer produce catches because there is nothing there. I saw recently the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has adjusted their crappie creel limits to protect the brood size fish by limiting how many of the larger fish can be kept. They’ve seen the results. As far as bass fishing I can tell you growing up in Louisiana and seeing a time when bass fishing was catch and eat equal to crappie fishing today. I can remember Toledo Bend when people showed up in droves every spring and hauled off multiple ice chest of LMB’s to put in the freezer and this lake produced those catches every year regardless of how much pressure this lake experienced. Back then every lake in Louisiana pretty much had that kind of fishing pressure and still produced plenty of fish. I think what has slowed down the catch rate on LMB’s is two things mainly. The introduction of Florida strain bass which are known to be finicky. Catch and release which has created an educated population of bass. I think catch and release is a good thing especially for the larger brood fish but there needs to be a mandatory keep on smaller fish in some lakes. Every lake is going to be different and what might be good for one lake might be horrible for another lake. We have to look t this through the lens of Fisheries Management. My two cents.

  • @joeg1709
    @joeg1709 8 місяців тому +1

All the issues, and opinions, that are in the fishing industry are directly related to money. Period. These communities will never stop permitting as many boats as they can every weekend because it's money in their pocket. No matter how much it damages the lakes. Electronics will never go backwards or be banned completely because the leagues are set up to exhist because of their ad dollars. Boat manufacturers and bait companies charge what they do because people keep paying for it.
Regardless of if you think it sucks or not, it's the world we live in. The money we spend determines the future of the sport. We have the power to make the changes we want, but don't have the guts to actually see it through.
We'll see what it looks like in 20 years.

Trait has a point, a 12 year old fish gave 10-11 years of genetics back to the lake, and would only provide 1 or 2 more years at most, catching and potentially killing an old fish doesn’t really matter for trophy quality. Maybe quantity, but not quality.
If you want to help with conservation, help restock lakes that have high tournament numbers, provide artificial cover, pickup dang trash from the bank, don’t throw soft plastics in the lake. Don’t just talk about it on UA-cam.

Even if there are 1000 boats that catch and keep 5 a day and they all die thats 5k. Those bass repopulate every single year. Yes i agree there are too many tournaments on evey lake. There should be laws on that. The club tournaments aren't the problem, its the big ones. I know in Alabama the DNR shocks the lakes and the population isnt down, they've gotten smarter
