  • @rileymcgill9893

Going 40mph when he should have been idling or at most 15-20 is crazy. When that fog hits you can't see 5 ft in front of the boat and it throws your depth perception completely out of whack. It's great he doesn't blame his buddy but his buddy is at fault. He was driving recklessly. You can run a red light by accident you but if you're driving 40mph in dense fog that's not an accident. That's negligence

It needs to be passed into Law and the fine needs to be Steep in order to Get Fog running under control . I saw first hand a very near miss last year on Lake O’The Pines in North East Texas - my Home Lake ! 2 pm in the afternoon Off shore Crappie fishing , boats sitting in the Main Lake near Sandy beach and A Bass Boat was coming in Hot ! Zero -100 yrd visibility and you couldn’t see the boat but you could hear it and you know this guy is running on GPS only atleast running 70mph. Several boats were sitting Ducks and a Married couple was just missed by a few feet that nearly was ran over by a 21’ Skeeter . The guy saw them at the last second and turned hard right to miss them . The guy didn’t stop and say he was sorry or nothing . But like Brady said a Boat doesn’t have brakes. My thoughts are it needs to be passed into Law in every State -Idle only in Heavy Fog Conditions . It’s simply not worth risking your life, your Co-anglers life or Fellow fishermen’s life. Also Brady you are Remarkable Brother and Best Wishes on your Continued Road to recovery and your Goal . Please keep the Awareness Alive. It’s up to us to keep spreading the word of Brady’s story and bring more awareness in the Fishing and Boating world .

Wether you are fishing or just taking the boat out , you have got to slow down to conditions your in , if you can’t see you don’t ride at 40 or 50 mph that’s nuts , people lose sight of sanity they are so caught up in winning wether it’s fishing or racing whatever it is !!!! Slow down when conditions tell you to , Brady good luck the rest of the way man , so wish you a 100% one day soon 👍👍👍👍🙏🏻

Listening to him, I had major flashbacks. I was in an automobile accident. I was stopped at a stop sign, got rear-ended and it pushed me in front of an 18 wheeler. I broke every bone in both my legs, including both femoral necks in my hips. I live in Kilgore, Texas. I woke up in Parkland hospital six days later, no memory of any of it.
In my legs, both femors, tibias, and fibias were all compound fractures. In my right leg, the knee area, when the bones popped out, they also broke off. So I went to the hospital with no bones in my right knee. They wound up putting donated bone in, and put a rod in from my hip, down to my ankle. So I don't have a knee, and can't bend my leg.
I still fish, have a boat, and go by myself a lot. I just can't stand and fish because of my balance.

Love your content. Always genuine and informative. Growing up in south La I've been on FOG in the Mississippi Delta that I almost couldn't see an arm length ahead of us. Terrifying. The thing I don't hear anyone talking about is the trend you've covered of having multiple 12" and bigger screens at the helm and on the bow and how it absolutely blocks visibility. Not only that, but fisherman are looking down at the screens while driving more and more. Fishermen with one or more giant screens in front of him while driving a 70MPH bass boat is a recipe for disaster. Throw in 100 boat college tourneys with young anglers behind the wheel and it makes me not want to be on water. Please consider doing a follow up to this video about the danger of this trend.

I foolishly idled into the fog once on Clearlake. figured id idle across to my buddies place, no graph, 30 minutes later idling I ended up on the other side and couldn't recognize anything. then I saw a rock pillar dock and realized I had done a complete circle and had come back to near where I started. I heard a smaller boat doing circles out there and then he would kill it, then turn it back on and then kill it. I had to use the trolling motor and hug the shore for a quarter mile back to the dock it was that bad. you could see the end of the dock posts and that was it, no house, nothing. complete whiteout.

Great interview. I captain a high school team and there are some inexperienced captains out there. There should be some rule about low visibility fog and max boat speeds so that everyone has to adhere to the same rule. Cruising at 15 mph would reduce damage or possible fatalities significantly if a collision would occur,

I know it wouldn't have done much in this accident but I've seen so many other injuries and deaths that could of been prevented or that were prevented from having on a life jacket.

God bless you sir!! Get well! That said: There's no reason for this crash to have occurred. The driver was going way to fast for conditions. And obviously not paying attention to map/electronics. I've never had an occasion where going faster than 40mph was necessary. I fish gigantic lakes in Ontario and many in N. Wisconsin. Water has no forgiveness. Can't stop on a dime. Can't turn on a dime. Never know what's in the water on any particular day. And of course other boaters with same challenges. Very happy to see you are recovering. NOTE to all fisherman. Take it easy guys...

I’ve been involved in two ! My first the steering locked up going about 40 and hit a tree !! Bloodied up a bit but all good !! The 2nd was a doozy !! Running about 70 and a alligator popped up about 20 yards in front nothing I could do ! Up on pad it threw me 90 degrees right straight into a big spoil bank ! Being 6’5 270 I took the console with me. I flew about 30 yards broke my leg and a wrist. So fortunate to be alive it was almost 2 hours before a boat passed and saw me. It sucked I ruined their fishing day too ! They helped me in their boat and got me back to the landing. They stayed with me until EMS got there to bring me to the hospital. Both were before cellphones ! Those boys went back to the scene and got all my tackle and picked up all the debris ! Yup angels are real ! About 3 years later I was in a tournament where a passenger in a boat got killed when they hit a bridge piling after hitting a wave in a sharp turn ! We just never know. Boats don’t have breaks !!

I hate to say it but someone is at fault, the driver. Most boaters now seem to think they can go like hell and seem to think nothing will ever happen. In low vis situations the only way to lessen the danger to you and OTHERS is SLOW DOWN A LOT. Imagine hitting another boat at that speed with people in it, I have personally been involved in the rescue of a low speed bass boat crashing into another boat fishing. It ain't good folks and thank god no one was seriously hurt. There should be rules set with penalties, real penalties for tournament fishers. I watch boats run 60+ all the time. Even in good weather it only takes one unseen log to make it a really bad day. I hope you are able to continue to recover and get your life back to "normal".

I fished a BASS Pro Am in 1995 at Lake Seminole and my first day pro partner ran full speed in fog. It scared me to death. I will never drive in fog, I don't care what my partner thinks, he can stay at the dock !!

Man that’s crazy.i never run in the fog in a spot I haven’t already recorded on my gps track. But when we do it’s only at plan speed 15 mph.I’ve run across Rayburn and Toledo bend and the marsh in the fog all the time. This guy was crazy for not stopping and idling as soon as he hit fog.Definitely wouldn’t have him a s a fishing partner again.

Fog is no joke, on land or water. Was on a powerboat poker run up on Lake Michigan, never been there before, we all start to roll out around 8:30-9:00 in the morning, cloudy and overcast conditions, I was around 6th or 7th to pull out and didn’t make it a hundred yards under idol throttles and out of nowhere this fog rolls in, it was so heavy and thick I couldn’t see my navigation light and I was driving my 42ft Fountain! Talk about worried about getting hit from any direction, everyone did just sit on idol in neutral. Radios don’t help if you can’t see 8ft in front of yourself. A blackout is one thing a white out is a different story! Glad this guy survived and lived to tell about it! Wishing him and his family the most well wishes and best of luck!

I did a lot of competitive shooting and fog rules were always you had to have 1000 yard visibility before the range cpuld go hot. It sucked because there were days when match was supposed to start at 7 but would be in fog delay until 9 or later. Which obviously sucks and no one wants to do that but we never questioned the safety value of it.

Best wishes on complete recovery, you'll get there. May I recommend? Aviation has collision emanate alarms for mid air collision. I'm sure who ever makes it would be interested in equipment to put on bass boats. My father always told me, all the rules in the world will not save you if you don't follow them. Hope to see a video of you lifting a trophy in the near future.

I believe a boaters license should be a must. I’ve seen many of young rich assholes with more money than sense go out and buy a 40ft plus offshore boat and don’t have a damn clue how to operate it or any lake sense or common sense just seen other guys operate their vessels and all the wild women these boats pull in. Just watch the UA-cam video of the no driving operator driving that 34ft fountain across the lake at Mach 1 and don’t have a clue of what he’s down and loses control, gets thrown out of the captains seat and gets knocked out! The only thing that saved him
And his passengers is that he actually had the kill switches attached to his wrist! Pretty funny video!

Fog is no joke, you want to shut down immediately but also have to take into account being hit from the boats behind you. I’ve never trusted a GPS in the fog.

So sorry to hear about the accident. You mentioned not being able to work a trolling motor, well I have an idea for you. I had a boat and I wanted to troll slowly for catfish, but I needed to be able to look toward the rear of the boat, but of coarse, the trolling motor was on the front of the boat. So I had one of those workout seats that had the foot raising apperatus's and there was a piece on there that was about 18 inches long and had a 45 degree bend on one end of it, so I mounted it onto the foot pedal of the trolling motor and I could reach behind me and turn the trolling motor while looking at the rear of the boat. As for controlling the speed of the motor, I attached a PWM controller to the motor and thus had TOTAL speed control from 0 to 100% via a potentiometer, plus, I also mounted a 3 way switch so I had forward, neutral, and reverse. It was cool because I could troll as slow as I wanted. I hope this helps. Bill.

Actually is what needs to be done for what you're talking about is number one in order to do bass boat tournaments we need to do licenses for captains You're either a captain so that you know what the rules for the water is not the little DNR sticker saying that you've been to a safety class You have to have a captain's license and you have to go through Captain's course so that way you know what that rules on the waters are and what the consequences can and will be this way instead of doing everything blind you actually know before you get foolish I used to do the tournament scene I used to do just what you're saying but after I got my captain's license I learned more that everything I was doing on the Great lakes was illegal as hell and people need to wake up and if you're going to promote this operations then those individuals now I'm sorry but at the age of 18 you're able to have a captain's license before you enter into a tournament you must show that you are a captain if you're not you don't do the tournament plain and simple

I had a scare on Norris Lake at night ..I grew up on this lake and know it very well and one night a buddy and me were out running down the main Channel after the fall draw down had started and I misjudged the location of a an island that was only summerged underwater about a foot and we plowed right over the island and the boat slammed sideways and we both got slung into dash…luckily I had a gut feeling to back off throttle seconds before and minimal damage occurred but I learned a whole new level of respect for running at night

Instead of call it a fog delay maybe call it a “Brady delay” . That way when people are trying to figure out what a “Brady delay”
The story gets shared and it might be more of an awareness rather than a “hey we need to get out on the way now” kind of thing. Just and idea

And there is a few gentlemen that do do tournaments that are handicap and for your boat modification for a trolling motor you can use the autopilot system where then you're using your hand to operate the autopilot system and you're also able to use the steering wheel as all your throttle and everything can be with your hands a friend of mine races ATVs and on his ATV he is paralyzed where he cannot use his legs at all He's paralyzed from the waist down He has everything on his steering wheel also with your vehicle instead of you having to crawl down the side of your truck You can also have the truck modified you can have the cream put in the back of your truck where it lifts your wheelchair out right next to your door or you can have the your seat will pivot so that you slide the the seat turns outward so that you are then right in front of your wheelchair when it's laid right in front of you and you can also have the second seat where it lowers right behind the driver seat lowers your wheelchair rate to you I used to deal with looking up all this information for a business that I had for the handicap You need to and there is so many things that can be done now for you
