Off-grid Outdoor Shower - Camplux propane water heater

- Here's our design for our new outdoor shower for our off grid yurt. Instead of going the wood-fired route, we chose to use a "camping" on-demand propane water heater (the Camplux), which works great in situations with low water pressure.
Here's the Camplux water heater on Amazon: amzn.to/2pHzWwR

Thank you for that clear and accurate demonstration.... I went thru five videos and yours came up..... ahhhhhh ☺️
I which, I could give you FIVE ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
All good oh good except where does your water come from? Is it gravity fed? Is it a hose from a house? You need 2.3 psi in order for that system to work so how do you get your water? I watch so many of these videos and nobody ever shows how they get the water.
is it dangerous having the on demand system so close to the nozzle? Would it make more sense to have a shroud around it? I love the idea overall.
How many showers, or minutes of shower, do you get on one 5-gallon tank of propane?
Yes....sounds fun?
how long do the batteries last ? I want to use it for a sink in my backyard bbq counter sink I set up. connected to my garden hose. for washing hands, cleaning stuff.
quite a while. the batteries are only used for ignition
How's your BBQ hot water supply working out?
What elevation are you using it at? I ask because the description says not for use above 2000 feet. I just am wondering if it will work higher than that.
Oh interesting! Yeah we are only at approx 800 ft
What description? There is no way they would make these that couldn't work over 2,000 feet. That would disqualify most of the American West
I tried mine out in Denver 5280+ - I’m now at 9,000 and I have no doubt it will work
Can I use some sort of bucket and do gravity feed for my later source?
definitely, you'll just need to calculate how much it needs to be elevated (amount of head) to give the required pressure
you could, but you'd likely need to add in a water pump(rv pumps work great) to give it at least 30PSI of water for it to run
so do you drain your water from the shower directly to the ground? Hows that work year round?
Hi there, the water from the shower drains through the floor of the shower onto gravel beneath. NOTE: We do NOT recommend using this year round in climes with freezing temps. The water will freeze in the pipes in the heater and bust
@@thatyurt7740 I was going to ask this ,but this answers it.
What is your elevation? I was told these don't work much over 3k feet.
3,000 feet? Lol. Guess we're screwed up here in the Rockies
You don't happen to have a blueprint for the little building do you? It's the perfect size.
I don't, sorry :(
We just kind of winged it haha
@@thatyurt7740 That's kinda what I figured. Any chance you have a few more pics?
@@questionablerecordswv There's a few more photos and some more details in our blog post about it: www.thatyurt.com/projects/off-grid-outdoor-shower/
is it better than the eccotemp?
dont buy this i had to return 3 in a span of 3 months horrible
@@rrrishag already bought it and its shit, not only that the Chinese support is terrible and basically blaming me so I'll probably do a chargeback. PS eccotemp was garbage too.
@@radekw708 Thanks for sharing your experience! So that we know, what issues did you have with the eccotemp?
@@thatyurt7740 It required high psi, and then was hard to keep on, eventually after a few weeks it stopped turning on. I returned mine after 2 weeks. I got a ecotemp too, and I have problems with it shutting off randomly. Its a bit annoying, especially if there is any kind of wind. Their a Chinese company and the support is awful. There were no american choices though so I took what I could get.
@@radekw708 I'm waiting on my second one to be delivered. Just like you said, after about a week it stopped lighting. Worked great up until then. If this second one craps out, i'll probably request a refund from Amazon.
Is there a water pump needed forthe Camplux 5L?
It looks to be gravity fed. I'm sure you could hook up a pump if you didn't have a nice hill to run water down from.
You either need enough head to create the requisite water pressure, or a pump to create the pressure
Needs a curtain
but the views!
dont buy this crap i have had to return 3 always something breaks.. one finally worked for 2 months.... customer service sucks ....
Oh no! One of ours did break b/c we insisted on trying to use it during the winter-we recommend against this b/c the freeze busted the interior piping
You must have gotten a bad one cuz this model has tons of positive reviews on Amazon. Did you find a better heater?
Off-grid but needs batteries? Hmm, is there a 7-11 nearby? 😶
it also needs water and propane. off grid doesnt mean no tech, genius. just means not being connected to the main grid for utilities
