Our special needs daughter was nine years old when she passed away in 2014. She was such a blessing in our life and taught us more and then I could’ve ever imagined. Fortunately we live in the time and place where we have medical technology to help to keep her with us as long as possible. Also fortunately Times have changed and people don’t automatically ship kids away just because they can’t walk or talk or are not like other people. Even though she was born in 2004 we were still presented several times with the option of a “home“ for her. It shocked me honestly because I just couldn’t imagine....Shipping off my daughter like some sort of animal. She was absolutely incredible. Even though she was nine years old when she passed away and never learned to walk or talk or play with toys like other kids, her smile lit up our whole house and my whole life and I am so blessed that I was (still am) her mother. I miss my Kenna-bear.

I grew up near there. My grandparents chose NOT to place my uncle there (he had Autism) after touring the facilities. They described it as 'a horrible human warehouse' and my grandfather would tear up, even decades later when describing what he saw there. It was a blessing to all people who resided there and to people with differences in general that it was investigated and shut down.
When we were teenagers, we explored and camped there a few times, out of curiosity, because a kid. But seeing the conditions they lived under during those explorations changed me and inspired me. Later in life I went into human services and behavioral services and worked with quite a few adults who had been there, forgotten and neglected, as children. The very fact that they turned it into a for-profit amusement destination was so disrespectful to the people who suffered there...again, many who are still alive.
It's not a joke, it's not entertainment. 1000s of children and adults suffered horribly there. The managers and new owners showed NO concern for the former residents who raised concerns, nor any concern for the rights of the disabled when it was challenged. Autumn's full of it.

You’re right, profiting off peoples suffering is in very poor taste. I can’t imagine the level of suffering people went through there. I live near a old hospital that the Canadian government/Catholic church used to experiment on indigenous children for TB research and to create the Canadian food guide. They would starve some children and not others, infect them with TB. Mass graves were found on the land. Luckily they demolished it. Charles campsel hospital in Edmonton. Canada has a really dark past that isn’t really spoken about.

This video isn't about believing in paranormal stuff or not, which i don't, it's about doing something that scares them, overcoming that fear, and just like always seeking discomfort. I would of beem scared shitless there just because of the structure itself and the improbability of it all. But like seeing as they're doing regular tours there i guess they know to avoid unstable structures and that wild animals don't actually roam free there 😂

To listen, tell their story, help them realize they have passed and to move on from where they feel trapped, whatever is needed. In a place like Pennhurst it is a shame that it is often made into a spectacle and has become such a tourist attraction, as it has such an awful history and people truly suffered. Some of those people are still there, and still traumatized and deserve respect and help.

When I was in school back in the 90s, I definitely got treated pretty poorly by some teachers and even the school itself. They didn't want to accommodate me and so my parents had to fight for me to have the right to learn there. Eventually, though, I went to a state school for the blind. The public school system had given up on me and I was failing all my classes, so moving to the specialty school was the only next step. @@furonwarrior Science still can’t explain how everything came from nothing. Take moment to look around your house, it didn’t just appear on its own. It would have been designed by an architect and then put together. It didn’t come together by chance. Now look at the universe, its super complex and wayyyy more complex than just a house. If a house can’t come together by chance, how could humans with such strong emotions and intelligence just randomly come together? How could a planet so full of life just come out of dust? How could the universe which is so beautiful and amazing just randomly come together. I mean, what are the chances? 1 in a trillion? More than that probably. It just doesn’t make sense that something as complex as the universe and all it holds could just randomly appear from nothing. There has to be a higher being, someone creative and amazing enough to create all this. And that person is God, who also loves his creation so much that he took the pain and suffering we bought upon ourselves onto himself.

I wonder about visiting places like an asylum looking for ghosts. I feel we need to consider who gains and who loses. In this video, either there are no ghosts there, and the haunted narrative is a gimmick to bring tourists to this horrific place, or there are ghosts there, who died in terrible circumstances, disturbed even further by tourists. I love Yes Theory's mission and content and I bring this up not as a criticism, but as something to consider going forward!

I am a paranormal investigator and generally wouldn’t go to a place like this, depending on the situation. But where I do go, I always try to communicate with the spirits that I would like to help in any way I can. Sometimes they just need to tell their stories, sometimes they just need help realizing they have passed or that they don’t need to stay where they are, or they need to draw power or need guidance in moving on from where they feel trapped. I know most paranormal groups are looking for “proof”, but ours has the goal of doing what we can to help the spirits (and homeowners if it’s a home). I don’t appreciate the people who make it into a spectacle.

As a parent to six special needs kids, I very reluctantly forced myself to watch this video. I appreciate the educational and historic value here. If we do not learn from past mistakes our society has made, we are doomed to repeat them. I had to stop watching at a certain point as I was deeply conflicted and overwhelmed. I can't help but feel the paranormal aspect is overstepping boundaries of respect for those who suffered. Thank you for your extraordinary content as usual. Well done. ❤

Actually many of the former residents are still alive and did in fact leave when it was investigated and finally shut down. I worked with quite a few of them, so I can vouch for that. They protested the use of theirs and others suffering as a for-profit entertainment. The management and new owners showed no 'concern' for their rights or experience, contrary to what Autumn claimed. None. Not too different than the complete disregard for their human rights the Pennhurst school showed them.
The only frightening thing is that anyone would want to profit off the suffering of others.

This reminds me so much of Fairview Training Center (also an abandoned asylum) in Salem, OR. It opened in 1907 and had many “mental” patients. There are horrible stories of patients being tortured in inhumane ways. It was finally closed in 2000 after the Oregon Department of Human Services investigated and was appalled by what they found. After that, there were so many reported stories of hauntings. People would try to sneak in all the time. Some were able to but most got kicked out if they were found, as there was a guard constantly patrolling. It was abandoned and completely run down just until last year. It is being demolished to build an apartment complex in its place. You can read about it and see pictures if you look it up!
