Those women are amazing~ thank you for sharing this with us all. And, it is Mother's Day here...so Happy Mother's Day Ying, sending warm wishes and love your way always. 🌻
As a Vietnamese, I've had Bun Ca almost every morning before I went to school for 10 years. Never got tired of it. The only reason I stopped eating it is because the lady selling it near my house moved away. I still remember that sweet sour spicy soup even to this day.
@@borinvlogs In Vietnam, you will be beaten to death by parents if you eat things like kitkat, confectioneries,... and carbonated soft drink for breakfast.
That vegetable is called “rau cần”. The English names are water celery, water dropwort. It’s a common ingredient in fish/seafood based soup in Vietnam. Also VERY good when stir fried on its own or with garlic/tomato.
Another great video as usual! The fried fish and noodle soup look delicious! I’m loving and saving all of your Vietnam videos so that I can do my own little Mark Wiens food tour when I visit Vietnam this summer. 😊
Thank you Mark, for such an excellent and honest representation of Vietnamese food. Been following you since day one. The best food reviewer in my opinion. Love your videos
A heartfelt thank you for your incredible review of Vietnamese food! Your words beautifully captured the allure of Vietnam and the extraordinary flavors of its cuisine. You've truly helped showcase the beauty of Vietnam and its delicious culinary delights to the world. Much appreciation!
Keep it up. man. I’m so stoked that you get to cruise around and witness/eat so many cool things prepared and shared from the other side of the globe. Also, dig how respectful and appreciative you are to everyone. Very cool!
Great choice Mark! This is my favorite place to eat this dish in Hanoi. Bún is the regular vermicelli noodles, miến is the glass noodles, and bánh đa is the red noodles. I prefer getting it with bánh đa because it's a classic Northern style noodle, you can't get it in most of Vietnam, while the other two noodles are common throughout the country. Looking forward to the next Vietnam videos!
I think the reason for that is because most Vietnamese who live out in Southern California are either from Central or Southern Vietnam. Very few immigrated from Northern Vietnam, so there aren't that many restaurants that serve Northern Vietnamese dishes. I just found out recently myself that my grandparents on both sides were from Northern Vietnam originally but later moved to the south before they came to the US. Outside of that, I have only ever met one person growing up who told me openly that they are Northern Vietnamese.
@@aznmochibunny When I was in Junior, I had a friend who was from North Vietnam. I didn’t know it at the time but my other friends told he was from N. Vietnam just by by the accent.
that fish roll used to be my favorite thing to eat, just like how you described 👍🏼 fish noodle soup is a common dish in Hanoi, yet many are popular with their own recipe, hope you can enjoy various styles with different flavors of fish noodles here
Fish in Vietnam is what I want to be eating someday. Love how much sour, spicy, and herbal flavor is going into these dishes! Might be my ideal way to enjoy seafood ❤
I need to know wat kind of fish they use im not eating catfish or snake head fish . I think they use mackerel too but how do we knw wat kind once they served me a fish I couldn't even bite it it was like rubber
Yummmm!!! I live in Los Angeles and always eating Vietnamese food and I feel it will never compare to Vietnam’s food. Hopefully one day will visit there to see what I’m actually missing.
I have watch you so many years I have lost count Mark. But when you are in S.E. Asia, Vietnam and Thailand I want to be walking those ally ways and streets with you eating everything in sight.
What a joy to have additional visitors on a weekend….thanks Mark for all your hard work. How does @foodnetwork doesn’t scoop you up and have you do travel eating series I don’t understand. ❤
Vietnam has all kinds of fish noodles recipes. In Hanoi there are at least dozens of fish noodles types I believe. Also try the fish noodles in Haiphong if you have time. Haiphong is just another world of food.
Thanks Mark for this beautiful video so informative and just watching you eat I feel and as if I taste it the way you describe what you are eating make my jaw drop and wish that I can eat it someday keep it up Mark
in Hanoi, we have some classic combinations of different proteins with herbs/spices in traditional cuisine: dill with fish, lime leaves with chicken, ginger with beef, onion with pork, Vietnamese balm with fried tofu etc.
@May. Belle appreciate this! Lucky for me, I just happened to buy some Vietnamese balm at my local market. Thanks to you, I think we'll make some tofu today 😁
@@FlavorofMind Great! I don’t know many foreigners can eat herbs like Vietnamese balm because it has a slightly bitter taste, but you should give it a try. Growing up with those food combinations I think they really make sense.
Hey Mark you should do a food tour of Hai Phong and eat Bún cá cay, or spicy fish noodles, or Bánh đa cua which is crab noodle soup. There are so many amazing dishes there that would suit your taste more since you like spicy, sour, and salty tastes.
I was just in Hanoi in January/February. It's hard to believe so many people eat pho for breakfast there! I loved Hanoi, I flew to Da Nang, then spent a bit of time in Hoi An and Hue as well. Beautiful country and the service was tops everywhere!
Looks delicious 😋, never heard of anyone putting a slice of pineapple in the soup. Sounds delicious 😋. Love that they put fresh vegetables and fried fish.
There's another Vietnamese soup called canh chua that also has pineapple in it, but that soup is usually a compliment to eat for family dinners with rice and other side dishes.
Pineapple is often used in canh chua (sour soup that's loved by Viets...the fish version uses pineapple, there's also a pork rib version but it uses pickled mustard greens). Many vendors also add pineapple to their bun bo Hue broth, but it's only used to flavor the broth, it's not eaten with the meal.
It looked amazing. We have a lot of fabulous Vietnamese food here, though there is always something special about trying dishes in the country of origin! Thank you for the video!
you just had three dishes i never had before. this was a great pick. i'm vietnamese, but southern, living in SoCal, we have a lot of viet's restaurants. this is regional food. every region is famous for some certain dish/es or craft

Noticing that your son has been trying the foods you eat in the videos now. Looks like he's getting more adventurous like his pop! That's awesome! Watch out though, he might get expensive tastes. My kids at his age pretty much just ate chicken tenders/nuggets or hamburgers. My daughter was always like that until one time I ordered a nice steak and she wanted to try a piece because it smelled good I guess. She'd ended up forgetting her chicken tenders and eating most of my steak! From then (she was two or three) until now that she's an adult, if they serve steak, she's getting the best. It would throw the wait staff for a loop sometimes when she was little through. They would be like "She wants the chopped hamburger steak right with no bun?" I'd be like: "Nope bring my two year old her own big Ribeye please!" Lol
Thank you for visiting Vietnam and appreciating the local food . I once watched a very ancient video of you in Saigon ( made more than ten years ago , I think ) , you had long hair . It began at morning in the hotel then you drank at a sidewalk coffee and ate in a restaurant.
