So to be clear for those of us who don't know before you use the pcmhammer clone feature you must first "read entire pcm" and save it as a .bin file then (after swapping pcm you wanna clone) goto "write full flash (clone)" select the .bin you backed up and your good to go.
This is correct.
Thanks again for helping out all of us that are trying to do this
Super stuff JR. Learning these steps right here saved me from a tuning headache when it comes time to get my junk running! Thanks for educating and informing the masses!
Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks JR.
Hey JR great video, I love the content you make, very clear and to the point. I plan on going a similar route to you where I will be grabbing an Lq4 (or lq9) and swapping a set of 862 heads on. Will the change in compression require any tuning? If so, will Tunerpro be sufficient for the task? Thanks, keep up the good work!
awesome video, lots of great info, thanks for helping
Nice I just got into tuning and now im thinking I need a backup of my pcm just incase I brick it, Hptuners only lets you backup the tune itself not clone your PCM. I can always ground out that contact in the pcm to unbrick it but I like the idea of an actual physical pcm backup.
I actually have a physical backup in case of emergency also.
Wonder if it'll work with a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo (and Honda Passport) ECU. Looks like a P01 as far as I can tell. Once my $30 eBay bought unit arrives, I'll open it up to verify there's no funny business where it looks the same but isn't. Too bad it's not a V8, because it also uses a 58x trigger wheel. Could end up having the option for a 4x 24x and 58x all on the same DBC and easily tunable hardware.
When you clone with pcmhammer do you have to have the pcm file read from pcmhammer or can you use a hptuners file to make the clone. Reason I'm asking is I no longer have some of the licensed pcm's but have the files still. Thanks for the informative videos.
Without the PCM, you won't have a way to read it as a BIN
You have to license your pcm with hptuners first, right? Or after you put whatever os you want on your pcm. Do I have to buy the hp tuners hardware. Or can I use obxpro instead.
You can do each one of those things lol.
If you want to swap OS's on a licensed PCM, then it doesn't matter when you license it.
If you just want to turn Vats off for free, you can just use PCMhammer.
I guess the one dislike is from Mr. HPTuner himself?
Could be 😂
@@TheDrivewayEngineer youve got an 8.1L! Since you know the Ls platform and have the 8.1L which one would you prefer on a drift car?
They weigh approximatley the same and have basically same engine mounts!. Would you approve of an 8.1L cammed vs 6.0L cammed??
Thank you for this info!!!
Hey Jr I'm not quite there with my build yet but I'm like a sponge good information thanks man
Undecided on OBD link LX or MX+... what can de MX+ do better? is it faster? more options or info that PCM Hammer can use?
MX is a little faster, not that it matters to me, I don't have anything better to do while tuning for free lol.
MX plus does also work with the AlphaObd app for my Chrysler vehicles though, so that's nice.
Apparently not all Red/Blue ECUs are a P01. This thing is Red/Blue, has a 1MB flash IC, and I can't figure out what the deal is. From a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. Any help would be appreciated. I'd post a link to a picture, but fuck my links apparently... sick.
Never touched an Isuzu Rodeo, likely never will. If you're trying to tune it with Tunerpro, I have no way to help you. If you're trying to use it in a swap, just go get an actual 411, there's a billion in every junkyard.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer "Just buy" I average $2k a year gross. Besides, knowing what I know now (parts availability and shit), I'd get a P59. Maybe I could at least swap the IAC driver to it off this waste of money. Not like I really care about having IAC even though I will most certainly not do DBW.
so when you clone a pcm It also changes the serial number of the chip I assume? man I wish I knew about this a week ago lol the extra tune credits could have paid for the obdlink
When you do a full clone, it's 100% indistinguishable from the original.
JR, you can save any file you want without licensing, I think this changed when the mpvi2 came out. If I remember correctly, you still cannot make changes to the file that isn't licensed though.
This is a 100% changeable, savable, fully licensed copy of my other PCM, on version 3.6
@@TheDrivewayEngineer i understood that. At 5:18 you have a text overlay, which used to be accurate. When hpt realeased the mpvi2, they did away with that. You can now save unlicensed pcms. You still cannot make changes or write them though. It not a big and a minor detail, just wanted to let you know.
I don't have an MVPI 2, I'm too poor, I spent all the money up front 😂
@@ThaProfeshional do I still need to buy extra credits? On the mpvi?
@@jz2518 i can't say for sure, been too long since i tried anything like that with it.
What about 2013 GM models?

how do you connect to the pcm? some special cable? do they make this for Mercedes?
This is specific to LS engines and PCM from General Motors.
@@futrellgarage9153 how do you interface the computer to the pcm?
@@narcissistinjurygiver2932 remember the part if the video where I told you to watch the first video? Go watch the first video, or click any of the links I added in the description...
@@TheDrivewayEngineer ok thanks
I feel like I’m missing something here that I just don’t understand. I’m gonna keep watching this until it clicks.
Will this work on Ford PCMs?
Nope
why only 23 times?
Because 23 different flavors-Dr pepper
I'm not understanding the only 23 pcms, if it's a clone, then I would think it would be an endless number of pcms. And to note I don't have hpt, yet. Thanks.
