    Leyland's daily schedule.
    1.Drink five cups of coffee.
    2. Smoke three packs of cigarettes.
    3. Throw batting practice.
    4. Remind ballplayers who's the manager.
    5. Repeat all of the above.

      Once he saw MLB let guys with half his talent juice up and hit bombs while batting .260 he said fuck it . Ironic it was all good till bonds took all the records 😂. Was a HOF'er before juicing and a multi MVP. Can't say the same about the others Sosa and McGuire .

      @@jays0909 McGwire and Canseco juiced from day one. Mark couldn't make it to 600 homers and Jose couldn't get to 500. Sosa and Palmiero cheated for most of their careers and we're never on the level of Bonds. Barry would have made a run at 600 homers without cheating. He was by far the best player if his era.

      Leyland was a terrible manager. Well below .500 before he took over a extremely talented tiger team for about 10 years & they under achieved. Had the best starting pitching staff in baseball for several years & some of the best hitters in baseball. Example in 2006 when Tigers had 1 week rest before world series he choose not to start Kenny Rogers who was the hottest pitcher in baseball vs Padres. Instead he started a rookie Verlander. Rogers won only game that WS but who knows how it could have turned out if Rogers wins game 1 & game 4. Had no idea how to play small ball...... Seem him do so many stupid things in Detroit it was unreal. Then he left basically a minor league team for Ausmus to take over & even now has a lot to say on player personal. Yes he has been adviser on getting talent for the Tigers since he retired from being a manager.

      Robert Masina no, but managers who are liked by their players do tend to get more out of them, and Leyland was generally both liked and respected by his players. And as was pointed out, Leyland and Bonds were normally on good terms both before and after this incident. Both men could be hotheaded and things boiled over on this day. But the two men are supposedly overall still on good terms today.

      @Morpheus A. Smith Barry neither backed down for nor felt sorry for an old man. Scott thinks he backed down b/c he supports Jim Leyland, and Morpheus thinks he just felt sorry for an old man b/c he backs Barry. I on the other hand admit that we don't have enough context to make a determination either way. Welcome to the world of an independent thinker guys...

    • @johncronin9540
      @johncronin9540 3 роки тому +1

      @@ragingbull154 Why? There’s nothing racist about this. Even Barry Bonds and the other players know this. This didn’t happen in the 1950’s. Leyland is still in MLB, working for Detroit, and he retired from managing less than a decade ago. He could easily get a job managing, should he wish to.
      What’s unusual is this being recorded and becoming public. Managers still have to discipline players, but they prefer to keep things “in house”. One practice that the best coaches/managers do today is not use the press to criticize individual players. This is to minimize embarrassment and humiliation of the player. What’s changed is the 24 hour sports radio and cable news coverage. This saturation coverage tends to turn a verbal rebuke into a major story, which doesn’t help the player or the team.
