Michael takes a look at the Playmobil official 007 Goldfinger playset, including James Bond and his famous Aston Martin DB5 gadget car!
This is great. As a kid, I always LOVED James Bond, and never understood why there were no toys around for me to buy.
I had the Corgi James Bond Aston Martin toy car as a kid. It was a beautiful toy.
It did everything this Playmobil Aston does, bullet shield, bumper extention, rotating license plate, spikes come out of the tires, and the ejector seat with person in seat to be ejected. It was made of mostly die cast metal and some plastic.
Really great toy.
Actually, it was really my dad's toy. After I broke a couple of its features and lost the guy who gets ejected my dad said:
"Okay, that's yours now."
And went and bought another one for himself and kept it where I couldn't get to it...
As a Bond fan, I absolutely LOVE this Playmobil release. They continue to hit it out of the park with their licensed vehicles.
the ejector seat was pulled off flawlessly. the figure even gets launched the proper height to match up with the scene in the movie. A lot of other toys with ejector seats launch the figure into the stratosphere lol. as for the characters, Big agree on the choice of outfit for Bond. The grey 3 piece or the white dinner tux with flower would have been awesome. If I had to swap one character out for Tilly i suppose i'd pick Odd Job, as the henchmen is needed to recreate the ejector seat scene.
Makes me kinda regret not being a Playmobil kid, but Lego had everything I wanted when I was a kid in the early 90's. As I was aging out and wanting to collect Gundam by 99 and 2000, I finally saw more Playmobil stuff out there and was always curious. I will say the best set you guys covered was the bank set.
LEGO actually has two James Bond Aston Martin sets
@@MatecaCorp didn't know that! Thanks!
The Lotus Esprit would make a heck of a Playmobil toy. Plus Roger Moore figure!
Oh yes please 😃
I feel a writing campaign to Playmobil coming on.
I’m really enjoying your passion for the playmobil licensed sets. I’ve been picking them up slowly on Amazon warehouse deals or sales for my daughter after seeing your videos. When she’s a bit older the A Team will be helping the Ghostbusters to investigate the mystery of the haunted car, KITT. I’m surprised the market isn’t flooded with speculators based on the amount of licenses and sets they have that don’t get toy lines elsewhere.
No guns for the A-Team, and from what I've seen no gun for Magnum PI either. I think the licensors just don't want guns included with the licensed sets.
Fools.......
I hadn’t heard of the Magnum set… I may need to get one.
Yeah, it’s really weird.
But it's okay to have machine guns in the car? 🙄
At least with the Lego speed champions 007 Aston Martin DB5 if you have a another set that came with a gun you can at least use that gun with the speed champions James bond EDIT: looks like already solved that problem 😅
Holy crap!!!! That intro music!!!! I remember that!!! Thanks for the nostalgia along with a great video!!!
As a Bond nut myself, this Aston Martin looks like perfection, I’m just impressed with the number of features they incorporated into it.
As far as female characters go, aside from the ones you mentioned, I would’ve also been fine with the granny that was wielding the MP40 when Bond tried to escape from Goldfingers goons.
I, too, was introduced to Bond via the ABC SAT/SUN NIGHT MOVIE! Fond memories! Thanks!
A superb rendition of the DB5 & a Fantastic video. Thank you.
As kids, my brother and I really didn't like Playmobil - we thought of it as a poor cousin to Lego. And we wanted Lego.
But this? WOW! I got mine on sale at Amazon for $43. How can you possibly beat that? It's fantastic.
There's nothing like Ernie Anderson announcing what's next on TV. Classic voice.
Playmobil did it again on this one. It's so very tempting. I may have to break my own rules. Pity they didn't choose the classic three piece gray suit for Connery, as you mentioned.
Well said! ABC had those great intros; which is what's seriously lacking on TV since the '80s frankly.
The opening was an especially nice touch!
I saw a review for this awhile ago and I was wondering when you were gonna get this. This is absolutely a pure passion product with Playmobil. What they're doing now is beyond anyone except for Lego.
And Michael, like you I remember watching ABC TV on Sunday nights whenever a Bond movie was on. Just the best times as a kid.
And I agree the car from living daylights is absolutely a beautiful car. The twin missiles were the most awesome thing....
I got this as one of the last things I could get in the USA before heading home...yes this is an amazing set! The DB5 is amazing and totally worth buying!
This car is SO iconic! But honestly my Bond car will always be the Lotus Espirit from The Spy Who Loved Me. Probably a little daunting for a Playmobil toy, but WOW was that car the Best!
These Playmobil sets are just great toys…. I don’t have this one (yet), but I do have Knight Rider/ A-Team/ Delorian and Ghostbusters… I can’t wait for the Magnum PI set.
I hope your well Michael, take care mate👍🇬🇧
Really cool product. Amazing what Playmobil is doing these days. I had got my kids a knights set about 8 years ago. Then out comes Ghostbusters and these other IP sets.
Thank you for another honest review. I couldn't stop looking at the Aston Martin, and was anticipating a functioning ejector seat, and Playmobil didn't disappoint! I know it's not a classic Bond car, but I know Playmobil would knock it out of the park with the Moon Buggy from Diamonds are Forever, which is my favorite Bond Vehicle.
I haven't heard anything about Playmobil extending the 007 range. If it is a one and done, then that would explain the tux. It might not match the DB5 but it provides an iconic look for their Bond figure. They really should have included the grey suited Bond though. I really can't understand the reluctance to provide guns with certain sets when others come with an abundance of hardware. The star of the set is definitely the DB5 and it is a wonderful toy.
Somewhere in the multiverse Kylie was a main character in GOLDENEYE in an Aston V8 chasing that F355... and followed that up with TOMB RAIDER.
You and I have the same favorite James Bond car, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage from The Living Daylights. An utterly fantastic ride. I'm wishing for that from Playmobil too.
As a kid, I think the first Bond movie I actually watched (they were on TV a lot, but I rarely paid attention until I was old enough to appreciate them) was the George Lazenby one. I had no idea at the time that the actors changed. I did have the little Corgi cars, including the version of this one, and loved them even before I had seen the movies. Of course the ejector seat got lost pretty quickly.
So glad you picked this up, i had to have one myself, quite a bit better than the little gold corgi model my fayher gave me! Had to find guns from a playmobile police set
There's a tux-wearing spy character from the Playmobil Movie called Rex Dasher. His tux is almost exactly the same as the one on the 007 figure - I think the screen printing is slightly different in that Rex Dasher's bottom button is a straight line (lo look like it's unbuttoned), but other than that, it's exactly the same as the one they've used here.
Said it before, I’ll say it again! If I could even remotely think about collecting another line of toys Playmobile would be it! I have loved that toy line since I was a kid, and playing with my nephews and all there stuff. The pirate ships, the racing teams, city setups, and the western sets! So much fun! And you could always do so much with these sets. I’m getting all nostalgic and s**t here. I need to make sure I stay away from eBay tonight. Especially since I’ve had a couple…..😂 Great showcase vid, Micheal! Always look forward to Retroblasing showing up in my feed. Till the next one!
Since a kid, I’ve loved the creativity of Playmobil! ❤
My uncle in England has one of those, a real one I mean. I got to see it last month when I was there visiting :)
Next they need a torture rack with a laser. Good to see more great stuff from you and play mobile.
Another brilliant review! Thank you, as always, for all the effort.
Awesome set and great review. Hope to see you do a custom Bond in the right driving suit and white tuxedo some day. Playmobile was one of my earliest toy lines I was obsessed with, even before Adventure People and right after (and alongside) G.I. Joe. I remember wishing for so many of these liscensed tie-ins from them and now that we've had 2 of the big dreams, Trek and Bond, here's to once again hoping for the third someday, Heston's Planet of the Apes.
Okay now this was a cool review Mile . And I don't blame you for holding out for you are looking for hopefully they make the other James Bond cars . When you present the car I was wondering if it had the ejection seat and it did so cool.
Great review Micheal, the Lotus Esprit S1 is my favourite Bond car, I hope Playmobil makes it and continues making more Bond vehicles and other 80's vehicle licenses.
Love the review. As you went through the details on the car my smile kept getting bigger. As to Goldfingers binoculars, i think he had a pair in the scene where he greets Bond at his horse farm.
Great review. 007's DB5 is iconic. Here's hoping for some Timothy Dalton love in the future... 🤞
Thanks, Michael, once again, for making this Playmobil review.
I wish they also made the "doggo" van from 'Dumb and Dumber' and Inspector Clouseau's 'The Silver Hornet'. 😀 😀
It's funny how life works out.i never thought,as an adult,I would be thinking to myself,I wonder what Playmobile will do next?
I went into the Bamaba Toyshop in central Dublin a few months back and when I went upstairs the first thing I saw was a wall of these Playmobil toys and I've got to admit it was impressive
This is such a great toy! I never really got into playmobil that much but this one is a pretty cool set! I also really liked your video on the enterprise as well that was a nice kit! Also it’s such a shame they don’t include guns in licensed sets!
I also love the Aston Martin from the living daylights. I found a greenlight 1/64 scale.
The display value is top of the line but just as much is the play value, a kid could easily own all these cars and play that Doc Brown created a time and space rift that allowed all of them to come together to fight some great evil.
Wow, Playmobile is really stepping up.
Great vid Michael.. can I please have a playmobil AIRWOLF
PLEASE!!!
i might get this for my birthday next month cuz i love this car and i used to have the top agents agent p car and it looks like a lambo
I did NOT expect a working ejector seat in the car.
Looking sharp Michael and your hair is nicely groomed! Great review Michael! :)
My wife is a huge Scooby Doo fan and I discovered Playmobile did a few scooby sets. Got her the Mystery Machine and the gang and she loved them. She’s joking saying she needs to do a Micheal-like review of them now. Lol. But I found that looking at your various Playmobile reviews and being curious of what licenses they were covering. Thanks sir, you helped make my wife’s Birthday more special this year.
Happy (belated) birthday to your wife!
@@retroblasting Thank you.
Love to see companies that make more realistic looking figures make vehicles that good.
I think it was smart to make Bond in his black tuxedo, because when the general public thinks of James Bond, they think of him in the tuxedo. Now yes, for this SPECIFIC set it’s inaccurate but I’d be willing to sacrifice accuracy for instant recognizability of the character.
It’s not that different from the Ectomobile sets from the playmobil Ghostbusters lines; the Ecto-1 only came with Winston and a VERY inaccurate Jannie Melnitz, and the Ecto-1A had the 4 busters in their black jumpsuits with final battle equipment despite the fact that they never wore the black jumpsuits in the final battle.
It feels like Playmobil is in that perfect dilemma/balance between being Movie Specific/Accurate and being General Public Understanding with their licensed toys.
Why the hell couldn't Playmobil come up with this stuff 30 odd years ago.
I can't buy all this cool af licensed stuff now!!
Or can I?
I would LOVE to have a Playmobile Bullitt Mustang car!! Chad McQueen would have to approve.
Bro, I love this channel
Love how this Aston Martin came out Playmobil really knock it out of the park for their licensed partnerships. I much prefer this over the Lego speed champions version which is nice but lacks features. I do find it a little peculiar that both Lego and Playmobil put Bond in tuxedos when neither of them are wearing one in the DB5. Playmobil still pulls away however with the multiple figures and feature-full Aston Martin.
Great review have to acknowledge your shirt if I'm correct promo shot of Kylie as Cammy in the Street fighter movie ;)
Incorrect - Custom commissioned artwork of Kylie as Lara Croft from Tomb Raider using reference images from Street Fighter to assist in the visualisation process.
It's odd about the Bond figure - I do wonder if EON Productions had said to Playmobil: "We want him in a dinner jacket with bow tie, please." It's well known that the actor who is currently portraying Bond, is contract bound NOT to wear a tuxedo and bow tie in any movie they make outside the Bond franchise. The tux + dickie bow combo seems to be a Bond trademark.
For the goldfinger bond suit, look into the playmobil finlgures that came in a train conductors set, they all had grey suits, and i know theyve made a grey suit coat piece
This set is gold. I love GOOOOOOOOLD.
Hit me right in the feels like don't you!!! 😂😂😂❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️👍🏾👍🏾
Another great Playmobil set. I keep saying it, but Airwolf would be an absolute smash hit for Playmobil to add to their 80's TV classics line-up.
Its like the famous quote Analog toys always says "Playmobil are doing the best work"
If Playmobile does another car, I’d guess it would be the Lotus Esprit based on it’s popularity in the franchise and the toyetic appeal, and dual play possibilities. Fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe they do an iconic car from each Bond and you get your Aston V8.
Maybe they have used the black Tuxedo, because the greyish Tweed-suit would not have a great contrast with the silver-greyish car?
I'm not quite sure but I think that I have also seen some black-suited Bonds in the Aston Martin by Corgi.
Fun Fact: I got this car from Corgi as a kid when I haven't seen the movie yet. So it was logical to me that the man with the gun must be James Bond. And the man behind the wheel was his helper. The ejection seat was for me also a help for James Bond to jump into action/to get over high walls fast.
The more retroblasting the better
Yeah, I was lucky enough to have my girlfriend get it for me for Easter this last year. God bless her little heart!
I have gotten back into the Bond movies, I would've loved if they released a figure set with all the versions of James Bond, which I think they won't do but still everyone grew up with their favorite Bond as well with villains and the Bond girls. As always a great video, this set looks really cool. The car alone would look great for display.
It's probably the best car of the playmo line so far! It's awsome!
I own this perfect toy and I am looking forward for Magnum‘s Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole. He then can chase my new Bantha from Stan Solo. 😊
I have seen some Playmobil sets from movies too, I hope that They would make a Playmobil set of Disney's "Herbie The Love Bug".
Playmobil knocking it out if the park, again! I would love them to get the original Battlestar Galactica licence!
Great review, I also have this set in my collection and agree, its absolutely beautiful. I also agree about the Bond figure, but I guess they went with the idea that Bond always wears a tux, like in the movie posters. I was hoping that they would release more figures and sets, like they did with back to the future and Ghostbusters, I have a space ready for the Lotus 😅
Any chance down the road that you could interview someone from the Playmobile team and discuss the process of picking and choosing IP’s?
Another great review 👍🏻
Playmobil should do vehicles from Gerry Anderson shows.
My ideas for sets:
- Fireball XL5 (with Steve Zodiac, Dr. Venus, Prof. Matic, Zoonie, and Robert the Robot)
Stingray:
- Stingray (with Troy Tempest, Phones, Marina, Commander Shore, and Atlanta)
- Terrorfish (with Titan and two Aquaphibians)
Thunderbirds:
- Thunderbird 1 (with Scott Tracy and The Hood)
- Thunderbird 2 (with Virgil Tracy)
- Thunderbird 3 (with Alan Tracy and Tin Tin)
- Thunderbird 4 (with Gordon Tracy)
- Thunderbird 5 (With John Tracy and Brains)
- Fab 1 (with Lady Penelope and Parker)
Captain Scarlet:
- Angel Interceptor (with Destiny, Harmony, Melody, Symphony, and Rhapsody Angels)
- Spectrum Saloon Car (With Captains Scarlet and Blue)
- Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle (with Captains Black, Ochre, and Magenta)
- Spectrum Cloudbase (Even if it was undersized) (with Colonal White and Lieutenant Green)
Playmobil is pumping out gem after gem
"A Playmobil DB5? You're joking."
"I never joke about my toy reviews, 007."
Ah yes, whatever OO7 flick that played as the ABC Sunday Night Movie - which would start at 8 PM Central Time - I'd be having to beg my parents that it was just about over, when it's easily 11:00 PM at night; and it's probably somewhere in the middle of the final act. "No, no, please, I need to make sure that Lynn-Holly Johnson is okay!" You'll generally get 12 minutes of commercials per hour, but on ABC, I'd swear it was a 50/50 split in commercial time per hour.
If I made it to the roman numerals at the end of the credits, it's because they eventually gave up and went to bed.
I wish they’d do the Aston Martin V8 and the Lotus Esprit S1.
Playmobil may have included the Asian henchman instead of a female character just so you would have someone to eject from the car.
I agree the Bonus suit is wrong but that can probably be rectified if I search through my other figures. What's great is the scale of the figures to the cars. The Lego Speed Champions DB5 is completely wrong when placed next to the mini-figure.
It looks awesome, top drawer car and figures, sadly -I agree , when I visualise Bond in Goldfinger he’s in the grey tweed three -piece hunting suit.
I wonder if they based the Bond figure on the Rex Dasher figure from the Playmobil movie. He's a Bond style character and always in a tux. I agree the grey suit would have looked better and maybe a few additional figures for sale separately (similar to the scooby doo bad guys range) would have worked.
Great video!
Playmobil is eating the lunches of both Hasbro and Mattel at this point.
As long as they been in business, who would have thought this line would be so innovative?🤯
Now they need to do a 3 pack of those henchman and give some guns
Adding Honor Blackman would've made it a homerun...
If this is a one-off figure then i think i'll pass on it but if its going to be in a series with the Lotus, Little Nellie DBS then this would be a great start to a collection. Playmobil are knocking it out of the park with their nostalgia sets at the moment
Oh, I have 1 I usually use it for stop motion
Fantastic intro
Nice review, and yeah the black tux is weird, but is most likely because when you think Bond you think black tux like you said. Plus if they gave him one you would like, others would ask why not a black one. As for not having a Bond girl, it is sad. But I think the generic bad guy was the better pick, why because of the cars eject seat. It was a generic bad guy, that was ejected, so to recreate that scene they pick the bad guy.
Also yeah if Playmobil can reuse assets they well, but its a good idea. It saves them money, which they then use to keep prices lower. Because for every new thing made, and the more R&D done on stuff. The higher the price at the end, because the money spent to do it. Is going to be passed on, as that is just business.
Nice video. One question. Do 4" modern era Joe's fit in that car? I could see adding that to my collection if they did. Thanks for your work over the years!!!
Playmobil figures tend to be about 3 inches tall, so I would dare say that 4 inch Joes would not fit in the car with the roof on the car.
Hey Mike, how positive are you Goldfinger is suppose to have binoculars? I'm asking because bubba I think they're suppose to go with Bond. There is a few scenes where when 007 trails Goldfinger to his plant & uses a pair of binoculars to scope out the layout of the plant. It's after he drops Tilly off at the garage. Being a Trekie Level 007 fan and this is one of my Top 10, maybe Top 5 Bond films. Besides it's my Dad's favorites of the series.
The moment I saw the V8 Vantage Aston Martin when watching Living Daylights for the first time I was hooked on its design and use in the film and so I wholeheartedly agree with Michael on the V8 Vantage being just as iconic as the DB5 is as a Bond movie vehicle.😎👍🏼
I totally agree. Playmobil did a great job. The db5 is ten times better the lego one. The large lego one. The small lego dd5 in the speedchampion series is quite good, but a lot of decals. Nevertheless i like the playmobil, but I wont buy it. I am looking for a smaller one as diecast version. Keep up the good work. 😊
Playmobil is top quality toys, and this is a proof!
There's no doubting Playmobil's expertise and quality if it comes to toy adaptations of iconic pop culture vehicles. If there's however one thing I'd which they had put in this specific bundle instead of the henchman it's a goldpainted woman figure. Yeah I know, just me nitpicking a little haha
I agree, Bond's outfit is wrong for this figure, specially when you consider how iconic the tuxedo with the white jacket and the gray three piece suit are.
just watch, they will do the Living Daylights Vantage and that bond will come with the grey three piece suit
Cool car and video
Does Michael own any version of the Corgi Toys diecast 007 DB5?
It's a truly classic (& iconic piece) of design that holds a special place in the history of the toy industry.
They need to do Space 1999 playmobil
