DB5 will forever be the sexiest car ever made in my books. I don't care if most other sports cars can beat it in a race, it's meant for wafting and looking classy.
As a former aircraft mechanic I can really appreciate the craftsmanship of the body guys. I was fortunate enough to have made 27 inner parts of a wing. It was for a 1950's Convair. Talk about a fun experience. My skill is absolutely lacking compared to these Craftsmen. What stunningly beautiful work they do!
Mr Spires is the perfect salesman as he clearly knows EVERYTHING about his beautiful Aston Martin cars. He is a fantastic guide through the build process.
In 1967, I actually sat in one of the Aston Martin's DB5's ,used in the film "Goldfinger"( I believe there were two!) It was on display at the A&S department store, in Manhasset, NY! My friend, an employee, let me sit in it after the store closed & the car's guard went home! It was a thrilling experience for a 21 year old "Bond" fan, but the inside looked somewhat less elaborate than the duplicate car, depicted here! Great memories!
OMG what a video to wake up to! And WHAT a dream it must have been, David! The most iconic car of all time! Also, dude, dressing the part. You looked SHARP.
Absolutely loved this video. Anything to do with the db5 and I'm like a big kid. I recently went to the aston workshop near me but was nothing like this, although everyone in there were fantastic.
WOW! Just WOW! Now I know what I'm doing on my next trip to the UK. What a spectacular experience not just for Bond fans but for car enthusiasts too. Thanks David this was special!
David welcome to Newport Pagnell what a place I fell in love with the place. When the Manager took me around the work shop after the second lockdown amazing experience. DB5 Forever 🎉👌👍👌👍☝️
Hello from the West Midlands. To get to see the Aston Martin factory is AMAZING. And to see such an ICONIC brand and see area like the trim shop The saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. Top quality and style. From 1964 to present day David -you look suave and sophisticated as always - 😃😃😃😃😃🙂🙂
Wow, probably the best Bond related video I've ever seen on UA-cam. Thank you David. I'd like to have seen a bit about how the Sat Nav works as that's always been my favourite feature. I also saw a Toyota IQ hiding in the background. My second car is currently an IQ 😉
I lived in Elstow village for a while and my girlfriend at the time took me by the workshop. It wasn’t at all what I expected, it was very small and unassuming. I fully expected a massive factory with a beehive of activity. I feel blessed just to have been by there. Thanks for making this video, it’s a real treat.
amazing everything hand made , wonderful quality , the husband of my nice had a aston martin such as bond had , this was around 1971 , unbelievable car
Daved, looking like a child in a sweet shop. thank's for shairing you're one of the best you tube media, As soon as I finish and get home, this is the place I come to as soon as I have free time.🤩
brilliant.....I enjoyed that David........looks like I will be watching Goldfinger again tonight......what a great experience that must have been for you.
WOW….this was an unbelievable episode. Thank you, David. This was absolutely great to see. I really appreciate how passionate they are about building this beautiful vehicle.
Excellent video. One minor correction, Newport Pagnell is a location for Diamonds are Forever not OHMSS where it used for Q’s lab where missiles are fitted in the engine bay of a DBS.
I've got to say, that was excellent. I'm only a mild Bond fan... mostly Mr Connery's time and of course I love AM's cars. Thoroughly enjoyed thank you and thanks to the gent from AM.
Paul's story about seeing the DB5 in cinema reminded me.. I watched Skyfall in Leicester Square Odeon, Screen Number 1. Opening day. It was a sell out, 800 people. As you see the garage door opening, there was a cheer which could only be matched by the "James Bond Will Return".
Brilliant, thank you David for an amazing video. However, I believe James Bond looks even more impressive in an Aston Martin that is painted in “British Racing Green” colors. Carry on!
What a dream to watch this. It must have been amazing to see it in person. Thank you for bringing us along. I kept waiting for you to take delivery of your own.
I am just amazed at how all but the ejector seat works! Beautiful car, but you would really feel like Bond in this car. I would never turn the radio on, would listen to the beep everywhere I went!
Awesome video, one word Passion, Passion for Bond Passion for Aston Martin. My Bond 60th Anniversary Celebration took me to near Glencoe a month ago to get the Skyfall Valley photo, unfortunately my budget couldn't stretch to a DB5 so a Sir Ian Callum designed (He did the Vanquish or Vanish) Jag took its place. I did drive past a broken down DB5 or DB6 about 8 miles from the location on my way back to Oban, hope the owner got the old girl started and got his photo
My father was fortunate to drive the Bond DB5 when it was being looked after at Merchiston Motors, home of Ecurie Ecosse, while the car was being used at the Ending Military Tattoo. It was crashed during its display drive by the Aston Marty driver and quickly repaired with the combined efforts of K & I Ltd in Edinburgh and Merchiston Motors. Why would anyone want to spend a fortune on a replica of such an iconic car and have it built in LHD? Nice tour of the facility and details of the car builds, but you would have thought that Paul Spires would have known that it was Corgi not Dinky that built the best known toy model version.
I grew up in Miami. I had never seen snow. Mom used to take me to the only ice skating rink at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. One day the card playing scene in Goldfinger was being shot at the pool. I didn't know James Bond from a bag of elbows but Mom had me go over and meet Sean Connery. It made an impression because this will be my 51st year working behind the camera. I always lusted over having a DB5. I never found one that didn't need resto far beyond my penurious values. In 2013 I started building a 1965 Mustang Fastback with the goal of restoring it to a level close to the Aston in terms of interior and workmanship. It took three years. I redesigned the interior and every panel was covered in leather or high quality cloth. The seats were custom designed to my specifications with rivets like the GT40. It would have looked great against the DB5 in that car chase with Tilly Soames except she would have blown the doors off the Aston. No slight here. The DB5 is my favorite car of all time.
I really like the extra attention they are devoting to standardizing the fit of the body panels, and that's more than Aston Martin did back in the day. The originals were basically hand-built cars, and as such, no two were _exactly_ alike in that fitment aspect. And the level of build quality that was acceptable in the 1960s would put an auto maker out of business today. I'll never own an Aston Martin (sadly), but as someone who has restored a 1963 Studebaker Avanti, I have experienced similar problems with 1960s, hand-built fitment. As a fairly low-volume car, Studebaker made the body in fiberglass (which they had never done before) and the bodies were basically built by hand by a team at the Studebaker factory. Sixty years later, I have encountered the same problem with the fit being slightly off in places. I had to put a shim on one of the driver's door hinges because after the car was repainted, the door skin didn't quite line up with the fender, and the panel gap was too narrow, with the result that opening the door chipped some of the new paint off the rear edge of the fender because the fit was off. The passenger side door fit correctly, and there was no similar problem on that side. The shim cured that problem, but it was necessary to slap that band aid on an issue created by less than perfect fit when the car's body was assembled at the factory in 1962. (BTW, two other similarities for Avanti -- James Bond's creator Ian Fleming owned one, and Studebaker also started out as a maker of horse-drawn carriages in the 1850s, and made the switch over to manufacturing automobiles in the early 20th century. I'll have to be content with those similarities because, as I say, I'll never have the money to own and maintain an Aston Martin.)
Good video. I also went to Jay Leno's for more technical (drivetrain) info. I am ambivalent about keeping the DB5 in the series. As a car nut and 66 year old Bond fan, I love seeing the car. But Brosnan / Craig having a 282 hp 4-liter 6 1964 DB5 with a paltry 8.1 second 0-60 time to tool around in modern times is a bit gratuitous and requires suspension of belief. Blofeld could pull away from him in a garden variety Ford Focus. 🙂
Yes, TBH, before I have my first *ahem* beer, the appearance of the DB5 in the later Bond movies can feel like a little bit of pandering to the earlier Bond generations to keep them (us) onboard.
Your best video yet. As someone who was lucky enough to take a DB5 around a race track in July, this is a fascinating video into the production of this wonderful car. Driving it amazing David !! Have you not driven one yet ?
Nice video! I learned recently that the Aston you see Bond driving in Goldfinger is actually a DB4 Series 5 Vantage. It's the final iteration of the model before the DB5 was introduced but fitted with the DB5’s larger 4.0 engine. I'm surprised he didn't mention that detail on the tour.
If David is in the market for another Aston, might I suggest a DB7! My reasoning is, they straddle a line of vintage and modern Aston! They have the old school charm and handbuilt qualities. But relatively modern reliability, and serviceablility! Aside from that thr db7 was the car which started modern aston design language from the vanquish and dbs and onwards! You can get one with the old school straight 6 supercharged or a v12 and both came from factory with a manual! Unlike the vanquish which though it is gorgeous the works modified manual swaps leave little room for your feet to drive them with 😅. Anyhow that is my recommendation! But any Aston will be a good time for sure! Excellent video as always!
DB5 will forever be the sexiest car ever made in my books. I don't care if most other sports cars can beat it in a race, it's meant for wafting and looking classy.
I agree my friend. Pure sophistication within a car.
Bang on
Amen and Amen 🙏
I said exactly this when talking about it yesterday. The most beautiful car ever made in my opinion. Just pure class.
@@webbsmotorhomeadventures1231 Yes, bang on without any safety equipment and non-existent structural strength.
It's crazy the amount of details they were able to achieve!
This is just the coolest! Thank you for taking us along, David!
Letting us experience it vicariously! Incredible!
take along for what--the asshollee never drove the cars
I'm not a car guy at all but the DB5 is something spectacular, It's just stunning!
Mr Spires is the perfect salesman as he clearly knows EVERYTHING about his beautiful Aston Martin cars. He is a fantastic guide through the build process.
What a great experience!! Thank you for letting us be apart of it!!!
In 1967, I actually sat in one of the Aston Martin's DB5's ,used in the film "Goldfinger"( I believe there were two!)

I loved this David, what a great place to visit! You'll never beat the DB5, the ultimate car that never fails to put a smile on your face.
OMG what a video to wake up to! And WHAT a dream it must have been, David! The most iconic car of all time! Also, dude, dressing the part. You looked SHARP.
Pure craftsmanship, glad it’s still around.
Absolutely loved this video. Anything to do with the db5 and I'm like a big kid. I recently went to the aston workshop near me but was nothing like this, although everyone in there were fantastic.
Sweet. The still of Sean Connery standing beside the Aston Martin is classic.
although the movie car was actually DB4 dressed up to look like db5. DB5 was not on sale/in production at the time they made the film.
WOW! Just WOW! Now I know what I'm doing on my next trip to the UK. What a spectacular experience not just for Bond fans but for car enthusiasts too. Thanks David this was special!
What an interesting and unique experience and what a fantastic and knowledgable guide that chap is. Thanks for sharing.
The lines and styling on the DB5 are timeless, never excelled by any other since.
David welcome to Newport Pagnell what a place I fell in love with the place.
When the Manager took me around the work shop after the second lockdown amazing experience.
DB5 Forever 🎉👌👍👌👍☝️

What an incredible tour of such a beautiful combination of British craftsmanship and engineering! Thank you!
Amazing! So happy Paul Spires took the time to show you around in my car! 😄😁
Generous of you to loan it! ;)
Thank you David for an extremely informative video.
love the bond and Q vibes of these two.
Wow, probably the best Bond related video I've ever seen on UA-cam. Thank you David. I'd like to have seen a bit about how the Sat Nav works as that's always been my favourite feature.

Kind of...its an Aston Martin Cygnet. Yep its a Toyota underneath though. 😄
It is incredible to see tour like this.
Undoubtedly the most iconic car in the world, and possibly the most beautiful. Who would not want one, if you had the money.
This is fantastic. I definitely enjoyed this inside look.
Gert Frobe (Goldfinger) Got To Ride In Aston Martin Gadget Car.
I lived in Elstow village for a while and my girlfriend at the time took me by the workshop. It wasn’t at all what I expected, it was very small and unassuming. One of the best Aston videos I've ever seen, absolutely amazing, was it Hammond who said... In every grown man there's a ten year old little kid... 👍
amazing everything hand made , wonderful quality , the husband of my nice had a aston martin such as bond had , this was around 1971 , unbelievable car
DB5. Without doubt in a class of its own.
Unquestionable and revered by all other brands.
(They won’t admit it but it is looked up to by all others)
A wonderful treat, thanks David!
Daved, looking like a child in a sweet shop. thank's for shairing you're one of the best you tube media, As soon as I finish and get home, this is the place I come to as soon as I have free time.🤩

One word - incredible
Wow, just wow. Who knew this level of detail when into these. Great Video David.
What an incredible gesture to invite you to the works. Congratulations on this particular mission, a unique situation to be in. Loved it.
Impressive ! Thank you for making and sharing this , extremely well done.
That was a great video. Thanks for sharing that experience.
WOW….this was an unbelievable episode. Thank you, David. This was absolutely great to see. I really appreciate how passionate they are about building this beautiful vehicle.
love love love love love the DB5🙋
I love how this video starts out with "I've got something special to show you. This is the oil ejection system..." Very Bond.
wow! this video us amazing!🍸
Iconic video ! Aston Martin knows a thing or two about making vehicles !
It sure would be beyond amazing standing next to the glorious GOLDFINGER DB5 !
Great tour - you should do more factory tours - of the clothing - sets etc

What a dream to watch this. It must have been amazing to see it in person. Thank you for bringing us along. I kept waiting for you to take delivery of your own.
that's it!! Im playing the powerball tonight!
I worked for Aston Martin for 11 years and at one stage my office was in the same building as Works Service. A petrol head's dream.
Amazing tour video and presentation.
I am just amazed at how all but the ejector seat works! Beautiful car, but you would really feel like Bond in this car. I would never turn the radio on, would listen to the beep everywhere I went!
Thanks for clearing up the functionality of the ejection seat.
Mr God! This is a dream come true. What i would give just to drive one of these for an hour
Mario here,
Wauw Wauw Wauw what a nice bond car that astin martin DB 5 i like to own 1 one day just like James Bond.

Just an amazing tour. I enjoyed the enthusiasm and all the details.

Work of Art!
Wow if only I could afford this!
Paul Spires is a terrific brand ambassador for Aston Martin. Hold onto him!
Just when I thought this channel couldn’t get any better…

Fantastic! I was not aware that Aston built these specialized cars. BTW, David, the suit looks great.
One of your best videos David. Really shows the craft involved. Great videographer too!
Awesome video!
Wow wow incredible car full with memories
Fantastic video, thank you.
I noticed you have a similar suit to the one worn by Connery when Q introduced Bond to the DB5 in his workshop. 😎
Your channel is pure QUALITY!
Brilliant vid David 😊👍😎
this is very interesting David i love it
It's so great to see someone like Paul, who is so enthusiastic about their job!!!!!! A fantastic video. Thank you.
Gold..........pure gold........Thank you David🙂
All I can say, Fantastic video

An incredible level of perfection for a car that isn't road legal (Goldfinger car) its purely a collectors car.
