Great timing, we are off to Swaledale next week. I have always wanted to revisit the area, the last time being when I was sixteen (1974), it was the same time of year and remember drying off in the Black Bull at Reeth, which has loads of international currencies hanging from the ceiling at the time and a sheet of penny black stamps laqured to a fire screen.

Hi David, Gunnerside is a fascinating area. I didn't talk much about the history of the area- I'm sure there are other youtubers who can do a much better job than me. It is a lovely walk though- the ruined smelt mills are very interesting.

Fabulous video and great hiking area Carrie. Was up Old Gang Smelting Mill area twice a couple of months ago, plenty of scenery on the tops there.
Yeah it's a fascinating area. Amazing to think what life was like there in the 19th century when the mills were active :D
