Just came back from 3 weeks in the middle east with the Aer 2. Holy crap was it awesome. Fit in every overhead bin even on regional flights. Super durable. Assortment of pockets helped me creatively solve many packing problems. Thanks for this detailed vid to help me make the choice.
You got it, Rakesh! We're so glad to hear that the Aer Travel Pack 2 is working well for you and your travel style. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. 😊🙌 - Rebecca
I honestly don't understand how this bag grabbed the #1 spot on Pack Hackers best travel backpack article. No load lifters, can't hide the straps and pay-extra for hip belt? I have been traveling for a couple years with a backpack and IMHO those are very important features to go missing. The rest of the bag isn't that much better that its competitors, so I really don't get it. Even with that said, I want to say thank you to Pack Hacker. I really appreciate how detailed all the reviews are. I might not agree with the reviewer, but they always give me enough info that I can make an informed decision for myself.
I got the Travel Pack 3 and it has those things you asked for but I still got rid of it, it's so heavy, too much organization for me. Waterbottle holder sucks.
The bottle pocket is great, but I wish more bag companies centered the pocket like Tom Bihn Synapse/ Synik. Water is one of the heaviest items you typically carry when traveling, seems silly to throw all that weight to one side.
Excellent! We're hoping that change is reflected in Aer's other bags, too! We imagine it will be implemented across the line but time will tell 🙂 - Tom
This review made the final nail in my decision to get Aer 2.0 over Peak Design, peak got a lot more small nice details and pockets, but is just too bulky. Would had bought the tortuga though, but they do not ship to EU.
Pack Hacker Well first thing I did was, just for fun, put my Errant backpack into it and tuck it on, and woaw, ypu really feel how good the harness system is. It still miss the small things like loops and so on, but sometimes less is more, and I need to make a configuration so I can use my Cargo-belt (boundary hip belt) in conjuction with the Travel Pack. I discovered that the laptop compartment has a pocket with false bottom that can be used for a 15” laptop or a ipad. I wrote to them to hear if that is a 2.5 change, or maybe most reviewer missed it. All is all I am looking forward to use it as a gym/edc and when I have to travel.
Hey @@dreamforger7166 - we've found that most companies are constantly making small changes and iterating on their bags and on the X-Pac version, there is a false bottom now. We're so glad to hear that the Aer Travel Pack 2 is working well for you, keep us updated! 😊 - Rebecca
Pack Hacker yeah apparently, mine is just the normal one, and they added the tablet pocket, which is great. And yeah really enjoy it as a travel, edc and gym bag
Thanks for video ! Just purchased one regarding your test and other youtubers reviews. Need to test the bag on field but it seems really good out of box. I was hesitating with travel peak design bag but zippers, hook and too much "sophisticated feel" made me choice Aer.
If the straps stowed, there was a false bottom for the laptop, and it used a zipper for compression (Nomatic Travel Pack style) it would be perfect. Wish Nomatic would use this material quality.
Hey Brian - we always recommend checking with the individual airlines you'll be flying with because from our experience most of them are different and they're constantly changing too. You can also check out our Carry-On Compliance feature on our full written review. Aer Travel Pack 2: packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ This is a guideline that shows the carry-on compliance for a wide range of airlines, so if it isn't carry-on compliant, chances are it's not going to be small enough for a personal item either. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions. 😊👍 - Rebecca
I really like this bag, but I wish it had a center mount bottle holder like the Tom Bihn Synapse. I can’t believe more companies haven’t designed center bottle pockets. IMO water is one of the single heaviest items an average traveler will carry. A side mount bottle pocket throws pack weight off.
Yes please do a video comparing this to the version 1, which I have. I think the bag should be a little bigger, maybe 36 liters. When I use the bag i carry a pair of size 12 shoes and the Aer packing cube which fills up the main compartment. That leaves really tight space for the compartments on the front side. I feel there should be more flexibility there. And lastly, I have zero room for my toiletry bag. Other than that, it holds up very well and I've had it for 1 year. The grey version at that with only 900+ ballistic nylon;less than the black version. Video please!
Hi Gerald, glad to hear it's holding up great for you! We'll see what we can do about a video. It's not in our immediate pipeline, but stay tuned for more. 👍 -Hannah
I love Pack Hacker ! you guy's reviews are by far the best out there!.. hey quick question, I have a 17" laptop, but the screen had thin bezels so the the size of the laptop is actually 16.2" L x 11.5" W x 1" D , would it fit in the laptop compartment of the Aer Travel Pack 2? please
Hey Javier, we don't have a laptop of this size to verify 100%, but after comparing the dimensions of your laptop and the laptop compartment in the Aer Travel Pack 2, it looks like it should fit with some room to spare. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca
In terms of ventilation, which backpack provides the most airflow/comfortability: Aer 2 or the Peak Design? Or is there another (more recent) one-bag travel backpack with good back ventilation that you would recommend?
Overall it's a good bag, but for me, I wish they had I spot for the pad 10.5. I have to put it with the Mac book Pro, kinda would like to see a compartment for it, maybe a sleeve for the iPad in the same place the laptop is or something.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the pocket at 12:36 looks deep enough for any sort of iPad. Yeah, it might not be padded, but you can buy a sleeve or case separately.
My wallet's been crying since I found this channel, excited for a bunch of orders to come in. This one's sold out but will be so worth the wait. My current bag is literally one from Wallmart. It did its job but I miss a lot of these features and thoughtful design choices. I might as well have brought a bucket on board haha
After watching a whole bunch of Pack Hacker reviews over the past couple weeks, I've decided to go with the Aer xD this bag has pretty much everything I could ever need in a travel pack! One question I have: Is there any info out there on what torso lengths the hip belt will fit?
That's awesome to hear, NF98! We're so glad that you've found a pack that works for you. Most of the members of the team have different torso sizes (you can check them out here packhacker.com/about/team/ ). So, while we currently don't have any specific information, we do have some first-hand experience. Let us know if you have any more questions! 😊 - Rebecca
Thank you for the review Packhacker! Love your reviews as always. I totally love the Aer travel pack 1! Now, Aer Travel Pack 2, with the center zipper on the front, it kinda looks like the Incase EO back pack. Thoughts?
Hey Derek! Tom here - glad you're liking the reviews. The founder of Aer-Allen-used to work for Incase as a designer, so it makes sense that we see the inspiration from what he's done there! Designers tend to develop a particular, individual style based on their design iterations & work experiences.
Hi Tom, Rebecca, and the Entire Pack Hacker team! Do you know if the Wandrd Essential Camera Cube fits inside this bag? Got the Prvke 21 but its 21L capacity is just not enough for my upcoming trip. Thanks!
How much more could I carry in the Peak Travel Bag? Is it a noticeable amount if we were talking volume? I know the Peak is 45L, but since you've packed both I'm wondering from your perspective.
Hey Nathaniel - the main compartment of the Peak Design Travel Backpack is bigger than the Aer Travel Pack 2. To give you an idea of comparison, we recommend checking out the full review of the Peak Design Travel Backpack packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/travel-backpack/ where we have an image showing you this compartment packed with the Peak Design Packing Cubes packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/packing-cubes/ Tech Pouch packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/tech-pouch/ and Wash Pouch packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/wash-pouch/ And, we also recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List where we created a video showing you how much we can pack inside this bag packhacker.com/packing-list/digital-nomad/ Hope this helps! - Rebecca
My friend and I got to check out the Aer Travel Pack 2 in person today. And we both exclaimed, "This is a backpack, not a travel pack." The 33L goes out the window if you decide to use the shoe compartment. The material, quality, and silhouette is beautiful. The compression straps are a serious nuisance in the way of the zippers (something other reviews have repeatedly stated). I own the the Aer Duffel Pack, and this is simply a slightly bigger version. I am about to go see the Peak 45L in person. In videos, and just by the numbers, it's a much bigger bag, more suited for traveling.
Hi kizuna101! We're not sure yet, as we like to get our hands on packs before formulating opinions for you. Peak Design will be sending us the Travel Line in the next couple weeks and we'll follow up with a full review. Definitely like that it's looking like a holistic system. Testing will tell everything else. - Tom
Hey Luis! We've found that there's no best backpack for everyone, as it really does depend on your travel style. We recommend checking out the full written reviews of the Aer Travel Pack 2 packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ and the Tortuga Setout Backpack packhacker.com/travel-gear/tortuga/setout-backpack/ so that you can compare the ratings, pros, cons and features so that you can find a pack that will work well for you. 😊 Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! - Rebecca
I love your videos. I purchased a Synapse 25 for a trip to Paris later this year. I have the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 (2013 model ballistic) I’m 5’3” and 62. I'm in great shape but the 45 packed is really heavy. Tom Bihn suggested i purchase the waist straps and the internal frame for more comfort. But I’m thinking of just a new bag. (I love bags, lol) So with that said I have 2 questions, one is the Synapse 25 big enough for a one bag travel (at least 8/9 days) and if not what would you suggest as an additional bag for my collection?
I’m deciding on which travel bag to buy (in the 30 lt range) but no matter how many reviews I read I can’t figure out how important load lifters are. Even the Nomatic Travel Pack, which would be the one I’m zoning in on (if the new version ever starts shipping to Europe) doesn’t feature them. So... where is the truth? Some makers don’t add them and some even go as far as removing them (as we see in this Aer), and then again some add them on second thought (as Tortuga did on the Setout, if I’m not mistaken). Reviews seem generally to be quite unsure or noncommittal about the topic. For example, I may read in the same review that load lifters are not a big deal BUT may be missed when carrying a full pack. Wait... if I buy a 30 or 33 lt travel pack wouldn’t walking around with all my gear kinda be the point? Confused 🤔 This point aside, love your reviews, always helpful, thanks! 😊
Hey Joshua - finding a backpack that will fit you right isn't always easy, so an adjustable harness system can come in super helpful. Load lifters come in handy if you're carrying a heavy pack or when your pack has a solid frame, especially one that's higher than your shoulders. They do a great job of securing the bag closer to your back which will improve the weight distribution and your overall carry. However, on smaller and lighter packs, this feature isn't always necessary but if you're filling your bag up with heavier items, then load lifters may be worth considering. Tortuga also released this page to share with you why they added load lifters to the Setout blog.tortugabackpacks.com/setout-load-lifters/ Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! - Rebecca
@@PackHacker hi Rebecca, thank you for the clarification and the link. Very useful indeed! My carrying loads are quite average, I think. I work as a cartoonist/animator, so on the move I have the usual graphics gear: 15" MacBook, iPad, A4 Wacom tablet, chargers, paper sketchbook, a bunch of pens. Plus, occasionally, whatever it takes in clothing for minimal 1 to 3 (stretch to 4) days out. Not great loads but... not small ones either. I was considering Tortuga buy I live in Italy and they've temporarily stopped shipping outside the U.S. (in their notice it says thy'll reopen international sales as soon as they are sure they can guarantee satisfactory customer assistance, which I must say really speaks loads well for this company). Aer Travel Pack 2 was my other choice instead of Nomatic's TP, until I became aware of the lift loader thing (which I may simply choose to ignore, or go Eeny Meeny Miny Moe... 'cause one's gotta decide at a certain point! :D ). Thanks again for the help, please excuse my rambling, I'm a novice to the bag world... still learning! :)
You got it, Joshua! We're glad you found the info helpful. We totally get what you're saying, there's no best backpack for everyone, so it does take some time to find the right one for you. Keep us updated, we'd love to know which pack you decide on and whether it works for you! - Rebecca
Really weird that they don't suspend the laptop compartment. I love thew look of this bag but that is kinda a deal breaker. I just don't want to worry about dropping my bag at all and this is such an easy fix for them.
What's even weirder is that they had a suspended laptop compartment in the first version, which I have. No idea why they would remove that. I wouldn't buy this bag without it.
Which one would you personally choose Aer Travel Pack 2 or Tortuga Setout Divide for longer trips? I'm 5'4 and I'm torn between those two since they have similar features...
1:16 Is it possible to remove the extension cord pull tabs on the outside zippers without cutting them off? They seem kind of unnecessary since the zippers are already quite big. It's just one extra thing that adds weight and dangles around. That being said, I would like the option to reinstall them later if I regret my decision (don't own the bag yet, so I can't test if they are removable)
I'm pretty much set getting Aer. The only trouble is picking the material or style. The grey is eco polyester 900d, camo is 1000d cordura, black 1680d ballistic nylon cordura. What material do you guys prefer and why? Which is easiest to clean?
Love this channel Is there any photos or vedio of how travel pack 2 and small look on ladies with petite size? Found that most of the reviews in youtube don’t include this

Thank you for another awesome video and for all the work you put into them, they really help. You're one of my favorite channels for sure. With all the traveling I do, I'm always on the lookout for new tips, tricks, and gear that helps make my life easier, though I still have yet to get down to the 1 bag travel, I'm down from a 32 inch checked bag, to a carry on roller with a briefcase, still trying to shave that down even further, but I struggle shrinking down needed meds, sunscreens, Advils, things you might need on the road if you're in a smaller town area with less access or more distant access to a drugstore if you find yourself not feeling well, and balancing that with toiletries, any tips? Also, I had the AER V1, buy sold it because as much as I liked the bag, the shoulder straps were too close together, too thin, and that weight was felt anything past about 15-20 minutes of wear that was really uncomfortable, especially with a 15 inch MacBook Pro. I've been using mostly my GR2, but it's just overkill for business trips sometimes, and tends to look out of place, though my main reason for carrying it is the large degree of organization, compartmentalization, and minimalist exterior being the big one with no excess straps or hooks, I like things that have a clean look, not like a gypsy camp, or "kabel-salat" as you so articulately put, but more my issue is "strappen-salat", if that's even a word, I hate when bags look like hiking bags with stuff and straps just flying all every which way, haha. I'm thinking about getting the AER V2 per your review, and thinking about cutting off the compression straps, what are your thoughts? Also, do you have a link out to AER if I do so I can help you out in return by using your link to buy?
Always happy to help Chris! 😄 We like to try to fit all of our toiletries in one small Dopp Kit-lately we've been loving the Topo Designs Accessory Bags! Check out the Muji Hanging Travel Case too. ( packhacker.com/travel-gear/muji/hanging-travel-case/ ) These seem to be great sizes! The Aer Travel Pack 2 is a solid choice. 👌 The compression straps are great for versatility, especially when carrying around minimal weight, but whatever works for you! If you end up buying, here's our link: packha.kr/jkog Let us know how things work out for you!
Hey! Have you seen the new Quechua Travel 100 40 litre backpack? Seems like a good option for one bag travel but I haven't seen any reviews, could You make one?
Hey Jan! Here's our review of the Black Ember Citadel Modular Backpack packhacker.com/travel-gear/black-ember/citadel-modular-backpack/ and our initial thoughts of the Black Ember Citadel R2 packhacker.com/travel-gear/black-ember/citadel-r2/ 👍 - Rebecca
Will the water bottle pocket fit a 32 Oz widemouth hydroflask bottle? Also, just to clarify, they updated the design with a false bottom for the laptop compartment right?
Have you compared this to the Minaal 2.0 or 3.0 Carry-on? How does it rank in terms of comfort to the following bags: Osprey Farpoint 40 Nomatic Peter Mckinnon Black Ember Forge Peak Design Travel backpack Pakt travel backpack Do any of these stand out in terms of comfort/support for long wear with heavy loads?
I actually like this pack! Slick smooth design. Love the compression straps and all of those padded handles. I'm having problems connecting to the their link (slow wifi). I need to know what the weight is without the hip belt. Definitely a pack to consider. Thanks Tom! On Edit: I was able to pull it up 3.7lbs.....not bad.
Indeed it looks pretty slick! We've updated our full review page to include weight with & without the hip belt so thanks for catching that! Will you be picking one up? Curious to hear your thoughts if you do! - Tom
Tom, I'm considering it as a future purchase, yes. It's a cross between my Tom Bihn Synapse and the eBags motherlode, both of which I like for different reasons. I think this Aer covers the open suitcase feature and has the durable lightweight material of the Synapse AND the compression straps of the motherlode👍. But not all the weight of the motherlode. Top of my list right now. Thanks a bunch for reviewing this, and I will certainly let you know when I purchase it. Thinking maybe around black Friday🎄🎅....or at the latest next April when I arrive back in the states again.
Yes, the new version of the bag has a stowaway pocket/flap inside the shoe compartment for the fabric (initially, that was only present in the Travel Pack 2 Small). I use it and have basically forgotten about the shoe compartment
Hey Greg! The Pack Hacker HQ is based in Detroit, however, we currently do not have a space to accommodate this. But, if anything changes we'll be sure to keep you updated over our social channels. 😊 - Rebecca
Will this fit under the airplane seat? I don’t want to check in luggage for fear of having it lost since I am traveling internationally. Ideally I would put the carry on in the overhead compartment and this bag under the airplane seat. Just want to know if it’s not too big to be under the seat.
hi which bag would be better for my case? im working and i want a bag where i can carry laptop and like just a small charger (and some small items like hard disks) + gym clothes and shoes. is this better or the small pack better?
It's on our list Paul! And anyone that wants this - please give a thumbs up to the first comment on our other Topo video so we can keep track! ua-cam.com/video/yDodL7tPOo4/v-deo.html - Tom
Hi, I love the review. Thanks for helping me choose a bag for travel. There's only one query, that I have. Is a 33L bag enough for a week long trip to another country? Would really appreciate it if anyone could get back to me. Thanks a lot.
Hi Prasang - yes! Tom used a 40L pack for 2 whole years ( medium.com/pack-hacker/everything-you-need-to-travel-the-world-in-one-backpack-fab5e138af1c ). This should work great for a week! -Hannah
Hello, just wondering which backpack would be better for Long Haul International Travel. The Aer 2 Backpack or the Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack Cheers.
Hey SquadSgt, deciding on which pack works better for you really depends on you and your travel style. Working out which features are a must-have (such as internal organization, water bottle pockets, or the capacity) will help you find the right pack. There's also a big difference in size between these two packs as well. To give you a better idea of how much you can pack in the Aer Travel Pack 2, we recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List where take you through everything we packed for long term travel in this bag. We also recommend taking a look at the full reviews of these packs side by side. You can then check out the pros, cons, and different features these packs offer, plus our experience using them too. We'll drop all the links below. Hope this helps, let us know which one you decide on! Thanks PDR MNZ! We think you're referring to the Vivobarefoot Gobi II shoes! Here's our full review: packhacker.com/travel-gear/vivobarefoot/gobi-ii/ -Hannah
How does this compare to the Tortuga Setout divide and minaal 2.0? I’m looking for a lightweight sleek bag with plenty of space for clothes. Don’t really care about laptop compartments etc
Hey Joe, they're all great bags, you can check out our Tortuga Setout Divide review here - ua-cam.com/video/_BxaxakiCtU/v-deo.html - and our Minaal Carry-On 2.0 review here - ua-cam.com/video/O3EplEYzvBY/v-deo.html - Nathan
Tom two questions: (a) This or the Setout Divide? (b) I own the inCase EO Travel backpack, and if you told me that this AER and that backpack were made by different designers I'd call you a liar. What separates the two? Also, that no false bottom thing is actually the main reason I no longer use the EO.
Hey Hoop Buff! Great questions. A. Both solids pack-depends on your style. Stay tuned for our full review of the Setout Divide! B. We haven't reviewed the inCase EO Travel Backpack but yes, you're right, the aesthetics look very similar. Maybe we'll review that one soon!
I am using packing cubes and i wounder how thick packing cubes i can use in organization pocket? I am not using any organization layout usually but in your review looks quite flat.
Hey KraKra - it really depends on how you're packing your bag because if the main compartment is at full capacity there's going to be less room in the front compartment. However, if you're not using the organization layout, then using a flat pouch like the Fjallraven Gear Pocket packhacker.com/travel-gear/fjallraven/gear-pocket/ or the Mission Workshop Internal Tool Roll packhacker.com/travel-gear/mission-workshop/internal-tool-roll/ would work. However, depending on how the main compartment is packed, a small Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Tech Compression Cube packhacker.com/travel-gear/eagle-creek/pack-it-specter-cubes/ will just about fit if it's compressed. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! - Rebecca
Pack Hacker : will GR2 34l version offer more volume in front/middle big pocket? When i say front pocket i mean bigger middle organization pocket on both backpacks and not a small pocket in front of both backpacks. The idea is to use tech pouches or other small pouches like from topodesign to store smaller items like headlight, charging cables or maybe powerbank, etc...to me it look like GR2 34l offers more dimension ir volume in pocket i am asking for. Correct?
Hey KraKra - we currently do not have the GORUCK GR2 34L version to confirm or verify this 100%, but flat pouches like the Topo Design Accessory Bags packhacker.com/travel-gear/topo-designs/accessory-bags/ and the North St. Bags Pittock Travel Pouches packhacker.com/travel-gear/north-st-bags/pittock-travel-pouches/ should fit. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca
Pack Hacker thank you. But i have a strong feeling that GR2 34l pocket is deeper. And will fit deeper pouches that the one you mentioned i have a feeling. But not sure... if you will have any option to check would be great to let us(me) know. Thank you 🖤
Do you have newer tp2 to explained how false bottom being corrected? It is Aer added addition foam to protect the laptop and tablet compartment has been sew correctly according to the line that you explain in tp2 small versio n?
If this isn't the pack for a torrential down-poor, which one is your pick for that? I'm looking for something with heavy weather proofing+good with boxy items+and has side access
Hi ErinRose Winter - here are a couple highly weather resistant packs that come to mind: Mission Workshop Radian: packhacker.com/travel-gear/mission-workshop/radian/ Black Ember Citadel Modular Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/black-ember/citadel-modular-backpack/ Trakke Storr Carry-On Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/trakke/storr-carry-on-backpack/ Hope this helps! Tom
Can you suggest some backpacks that allow me to hold my laptop and iPad pro, text books, a few notebooks, ability to expand or just have room for workout clothes/shoes. I commute so waterproofing is nice as well as comfort for long wear. Please please. I've been looking at bags for the past week!
The Aer Travel Pack 2 would be a great choice! We also suggest checking out the Thule Subterra 34L ( packhacker.com/travel-gear/thule/subterra-34l/ ) and the Aer Flight Pack 2 (full review coming soon!).
Hey Lewsir - this one is totally doable for EDC, especially with the compression straps. Generally, it's a smaller pack than we usually review as well. - Tom
I am traveling to Europe and will be having a carry on luggage. I was thinking of using this bag with my carry on for extra space. Will I have issues getting on to the plane. Will airlines really make me pay extra ?
Tom thank you for all the videos! Would you say that this pack fits less or about the same compared to your GR2 40L? I know it says it is 33L but seems much larger with the given dimension of the bag compared to the GR2 Thank you!
Hey Mimikyu The Pokémon! (sweet username). We haven't had a chance to test that one and don't have immediate plans to do so, however, we'll keep an eye out! - Tom
Could I cut off the briefcase handles without damaging the bag? They look ungainly and I'd only ever use it as a backpack and the pass-thru carry-on feature.
If you were careful, it looks like you could manage with minor (if any) damage. You could give it a shot! Let us know how it goes if you do, although we'll probably keep ours around as we're digging the versatile carry modes! 👍 -Hannah
Hey Ashwin - on the back there is a grab panel which can be used as a luggage pass-through, so if you're using a roller bag you can just slip the bag on top and pass it through the handle. There's more information on this in our written review packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ - hope this helps! 😊👍 - Rebecca
Hey CABdosdos - we recommend checking out both of the full reviews so that you can find the right pack for you. Hmm - they're very similar in size so that's a toss up! Generally, the Minaal Carry-On 2.0 is about 35L (even though Minaal doesn't list this on their site) but Aer's travel pack is 33L. Aer has a boxier shape though, so that's something to consider. Honestly they're very similar in size!
Hey franklin Somyem - we recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List video ua-cam.com/video/mGvHt4blPDc/v-deo.html where we show you how we packed this bag for over a month of continuous travel. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca
Definitely! But of course, it all depends on what you pack. We're working on a packing list at the moment so keep an eye out for that one. Thanks, - Nathan
Hey Ryan - we currently don't have this cube to verify the fit 100%, but from comparing the dimensions, it should just fit into the Aer Travel Pack 2. Hope this helps! 👍 - Rebecca
Hey PRALAY DAS - the Aer Travel Pack 2 is large enough to hold a DSLR camera. We also recommend using a camera cube like the F-Stop Small Shallow ICU packhacker.com/travel-gear/f-stop/small-shallow-icu-internal-camera-unit/ to keep your camera protected inside. 😊 - Rebecca
Hey Dave - finding the right pack for you really depends on you and your travel style. Both are great packs! However, your use case may suit one or the other better. For example, the Wandrd Prvke 31L is a great bag for photographers. Check out our full review: packhacker.com/travel-gear/wandrd/prvke/ -Hannah
Hey Mike, from our testing so far, we've found that darker colorways work best for travel as they show up the least amount of dirt and marks when you're on the road. However, if you prefer a pop of color, we recommend checking out the following packs: - Tom Bihn Synik 30: packhacker.com/travel-gear/tom-bihn/synik-30/ - Trakke Storr Carry-On Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/trakke/storr-carry-on-backpack/ - Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/cotopaxi/allpa-35l-travel-pack/ - Mystery Ranch UA24: packhacker.com/travel-gear/mystery-ranch/urban-assault-24/ Hope this helps! - Rebecca
For a detailed comparison of the Aer Travel Pack 1 & 2, give this comment a thumbs up!
please add comparison vs cotopaxi allpa 35L as well. tq. Great review as always :D
Def want that video
Noted scooter :)

Good idea Shazli - solid packs to compare.

Pack Hacker would you choose this over the oppose this carry on bag?
Just came back from 3 weeks in the middle east with the Aer 2. Holy crap was it awesome. Fit in every overhead bin even on regional flights. Super durable. Assortment of pockets helped me creatively solve many packing problems.
Thanks for this detailed vid to help me make the choice.
You got it, Rakesh! We're so glad to hear that the Aer Travel Pack 2 is working well for you and your travel style. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. 😊🙌
- Rebecca
Pro-tip: The X-Pac version of this bag DOES include a sleeve with a false bottom! hurray :D
Excellent! We're hoping that change is reflected in Aer's other bags, too! We imagine it will be implemented across the line but time will tell 🙂
- Tom
The strap for the rolling luggage is a must if your partner does not do one bag travel (and you have to carry it 😂)
😂😂😂
Haha...totally agree! Just had to carry both myself in NYC.
I for one would have very much loved to see a shoulder strap and hide-away back straps in this new version.
Fair enough Herky - a lot of modern travel packs offer this feature.
Wow, this pack is starting to look much nicer than the GR2, good job Aer Travel!
Aer has definitely tightened up the design with this second version!
- Tom
the GR2 looks too heavy and too militaristic for air travel
This review made the final nail in my decision to get Aer 2.0 over Peak Design, peak got a lot more small nice details and pockets, but is just too bulky.
Would had bought the tortuga though, but they do not ship to EU.
Hey Dreamforger - let us know what you think of the Aer Travel Pack 2 when it arrives. Thanks for sharing! 😊👍
- Rebecca
- Rebecca
Pack Hacker yeah apparently, mine is just the normal one, and they added the tablet pocket, which is great.
And yeah really enjoy it as a travel, edc and gym bag
Thanks for video ! Just purchased one regarding your test and other youtubers reviews. Need to test the bag on field but it seems really good out of box. I was hesitating with travel peak design bag but zippers, hook and too much "sophisticated feel" made me choice Aer.
You ROCK! Thank you Tom. Sincerely, Thank you 🙏🏻 I’m obsessed with bags
You got it, Jamie! 😊🙌
- Rebecca
If the straps stowed, there was a false bottom for the laptop, and it used a zipper for compression (Nomatic Travel Pack style) it would be perfect. Wish Nomatic would use this material quality.
Will be getting the aer travel pack 1, I like the TOP loader strap.
Good deal Mr DES - some folks dig the load lifters and we usually do, too. Interesting to see Aer's rationale here - cleans up the straps a bit.
- Tom
I bought both and compared myself after watching your videos. I’m taking the AER back to Nordstrom’s.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Joey! 👍
- Rebecca
I plan on getting this bag in the near future. Will this be small enough to be a personal bag for most airlines? Thank you
Hey Brian - we always recommend checking with the individual airlines you'll be flying with because from our experience most of them are different and they're constantly changing too. You can also check out our Carry-On Compliance feature on our full written review.
Aer Travel Pack 2: packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/
This is a guideline that shows the carry-on compliance for a wide range of airlines, so if it isn't carry-on compliant, chances are it's not going to be small enough for a personal item either. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions. 😊👍
- Rebecca
I really like this bag, but I wish it had a center mount bottle holder like the Tom Bihn Synapse. I can’t believe more companies haven’t designed center bottle pockets. IMO water is one of the single heaviest items an average traveler will carry. A side mount bottle pocket throws pack weight off.
Great observation, woolengrappler. We just got our hands on a Tom Bihn Synapse and will be testing soon! 👍
-Hannah
-Hannah
I love Pack Hacker ! you guy's reviews are by far the best out there!.. hey quick question, I have a 17" laptop, but the screen had thin bezels so the the size of the laptop is actually 16.2" L x 11.5" W x 1" D , would it fit in the laptop compartment of the Aer Travel Pack 2? please
Hey Javier, we don't have a laptop of this size to verify 100%, but after comparing the dimensions of your laptop and the laptop compartment in the Aer Travel Pack 2, it looks like it should fit with some room to spare. Hope this helps! 😊
- Rebecca
Please make a comparison video between the AER Travel Pack 1 and the Travel Pack 2. Thank you.
We've got a poll going on the first pinned comment Eddie! Make sure to give the comment a thumbs up since that's how we gauge demand.
- Tom
Thanks for the video :-) Quick question: what bag is that on the wall, far right second from the bottom? Thanks!
Hey Paul! That's the Black Ember CITADEL Modular Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/black-ember/citadel-modular-backpack/ 😊
- Rebecca
I think no load lifters was a mistake. You could even see it awkwardly hangs back in the b-roll shots of Tom walking with it
We were surprised by it, too. That's why we decided to ask Aer about it 👍
- Tom
In terms of ventilation, which backpack provides the most airflow/comfortability: Aer 2 or the Peak Design? Or is there another (more recent) one-bag travel backpack with good back ventilation that you would recommend?
Overall it's a good bag, but for me, I wish they had I spot for the pad 10.5. I have to put it with the Mac book Pro, kinda would like to see a compartment for it, maybe a sleeve for the iPad in the same place the laptop is or something.
Great idea Fr Li, it's something a lot of other packs do already, maybe it's something we'll see in a future design update.
- Nathan
- Rebecca
@@PackHacker Thanks for the link, Rebecca! I'm somewhere between 17-18" so it looks like I should be good! 👍
You got it! 👍
- Rebecca
You guys are awesome. New sub! Still can't decide bewtween Packt / This bag or the Peak Design...But your channel and website is all I need!!
Thanks Alejandro, glad to hear you're finding the reviews helpful. Let us know which pack you end up going for! 😊🙌
- Rebecca
Thank you for the review Packhacker! Love your reviews as always. I totally love the Aer travel pack 1!
Now, Aer Travel Pack 2, with the center zipper on the front, it kinda looks like the Incase EO back pack. Thoughts?
Hey Derek! Tom here - glad you're liking the reviews. The founder of Aer-Allen-used to work for Incase as a designer, so it makes sense that we see the inspiration from what he's done there! Designers tend to develop a particular, individual style based on their design iterations & work experiences.
Well I'm so glad he came out. He's making great bags!!
We agree :)
Hey packhacker about to pull the trigger on the aer travel pack 2 x-pac just wondering how you would rank between the Tortuga Outbreaker and AER TP2?
Hey GoldenEye33 - all solid choices - it really depends on your use case and preferences.
- Tom
To give you an idea of comparison, we recommend checking out the full review of the Peak Design Travel Backpack packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/travel-backpack/ where we have an image showing you this compartment packed with the Peak Design Packing Cubes packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/packing-cubes/ Tech Pouch packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/tech-pouch/ and Wash Pouch packhacker.com/travel-gear/peak-design/wash-pouch/
And, we also recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List where we created a video showing you how much we can pack inside this bag packhacker.com/packing-list/digital-nomad/
Hope this helps!
Aer Travel Pack 2 vs PeakDesign Travel Backpack. Thoughts?
Hi kizuna101! We're not sure yet, as we like to get our hands on packs before formulating opinions for you. Peak Design will be sending us the Travel Line in the next couple weeks and we'll follow up with a full review. Definitely like that it's looking like a holistic system. Testing will tell everything else.

Pack Hacker thoughts 1 year later?
For backpacking through Europe, ¿which bag would you choose between this Aer Travel Pack 2 and the Tortuga Setout?

Confused 🤔
This point aside, love your reviews, always helpful, thanks!
Tortuga also released this page to share with you why they added load lifters to the Setout blog.tortugabackpacks.com/setout-load-lifters/
Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions!

- Rebecca
Good review but I will go for a Maxpedition instead for the price.
Really weird that they don't suspend the laptop compartment. I love thew look of this bag but that is kinda a deal breaker. I just don't want to worry about dropping my bag at all and this is such an easy fix for them.
Indeed. Although it's padded at the bottom, having it not suspended is a detail we've noticed.
- Tom
What's even weirder is that they had a suspended laptop compartment in the first version, which I have. No idea why they would remove that. I wouldn't buy this bag without it.
Which one would you personally choose Aer Travel Pack 2 or Tortuga Setout Divide for longer trips? I'm 5'4 and I'm torn between those two since they have similar features...
Both are solid options! It all comes down to what features and aesthetics you prefer.
Hey John - the pull tabs on the zippers are removable so you can find out what works best for you! Hope this helps!
- Rebecca
Cool!
I'm glad I don't have to cut them off.
Thanks for the help :)
I'm pretty much set getting Aer. The only trouble is picking the material or style. The grey is eco polyester 900d, camo is 1000d cordura, black 1680d ballistic nylon cordura. What material do you guys prefer and why? Which is easiest to clean?
Hey Jan, solid choice! We prefer the black as it's sturdy and doesn't show much dirt.
-Hannah

We like to try to fit all of our toiletries in one small Dopp Kit-lately we've been loving the Topo Designs Accessory Bags! Check out the Muji Hanging Travel Case too. ( packhacker.com/travel-gear/muji/hanging-travel-case/ ) These seem to be great sizes!

Pack Hacker. Thanks, Rebecca. You are rockstars
Will the water bottle pocket fit a 32 Oz widemouth hydroflask bottle? Also, just to clarify, they updated the design with a false bottom for the laptop compartment right?
Have you compared this to the Minaal 2.0 or 3.0 Carry-on? How does it rank in terms of comfort to the following bags:
Osprey Farpoint 40
Nomatic Peter Mckinnon
Black Ember Forge
Peak Design Travel backpack
Pakt travel backpack
Do any of these stand out in terms of comfort/support for long wear with heavy loads?
I actually like this pack! Slick smooth design. Love the compression straps and all of those padded handles.
I'm having problems connecting to the their link (slow wifi). I need to know what the weight is without the hip belt. Definitely a pack to consider. Thanks Tom!
On Edit: I was able to pull it up 3.7lbs.....not bad.
Indeed it looks pretty slick! We've updated our full review page to include weight with & without the hip belt so thanks for catching that! Will you be picking one up? Curious to hear your thoughts if you do!

Excellent! Still on the quest for the perfect pack :)
Great review, and great bag. Thank you!
You got it, Adam! 👍

Is there a way I can role the shoe compartment out of the way? Thanks.
Yes, the new version of the bag has a stowaway pocket/flap inside the shoe compartment for the fabric (initially, that was only present in the Travel Pack 2 Small). I use it and have basically forgotten about the shoe compartment
@@rpaliwal09 Omg, I just received the bag this morning and I wouldn't have notice that pocket without you so thank you very much !

Will this fit under the airplane seat? I don’t want to check in luggage for fear of having it lost since I am traveling internationally. Ideally I would put the carry on in the overhead compartment and this bag under the airplane seat. Just want to know if it’s not too big to be under the seat.
What are your thoughts on this pack as a bug out bag?
agree main compartment/compression straps feedback. nice review 👍
Absolutely 👍👍

Hi, I love the review. Thanks for helping me choose a bag for travel. There's only one query, that I have. Is a 33L bag enough for a week long trip to another country? Would really appreciate it if anyone could get back to me. Thanks a lot.
Hi Prasang - yes! Tom used a 40L pack for 2 whole years ( medium.com/pack-hacker/everything-you-need-to-travel-the-world-in-one-backpack-fab5e138af1c ). This should work great for a week!

Hello, just wondering which backpack would be better for Long Haul International Travel.
The Aer 2 Backpack or the Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack
Cheers.
Hey SquadSgt, deciding on which pack works better for you really depends on you and your travel style. Working out which features are a must-have (such as internal organization, water bottle pockets, or the capacity) will help you find the right pack.

How does this compare to the Tortuga Setout divide and minaal 2.0? I’m looking for a lightweight sleek bag with plenty of space for clothes. Don’t really care about laptop compartments etc

Pack Hacker .thanks Nathan, apart from what the manufacturers quote in litres, which of those bags actually holds the most capacity in reality?
Hey Joe, from experience we'd say the Minal Carry-On 2.0 out of the couple you mention 👍
Hello, im rené from chile and i wonder if my laptop will fit in that backpack.
My laptop sizes are :
41,6 x 28,8 x 3,35 cm (16,4 x 11,35 x 1,3 pulgadas)
thanks in advance
That inCase EO Travel came out in 2015... Super light, which can be an issue if you're trying to protect your laptop or other tech gear.
Good point!
- Rebecca
Pack Hacker thank you. But i have a strong feeling that GR2 34l pocket is deeper. And will fit deeper pouches that the one you mentioned i have a feeling. But not sure... if you will have any option to check would be great to let us(me) know. Thank you 🖤
Do you have newer tp2 to explained how false bottom being corrected? It is Aer added addition foam to protect the laptop and tablet compartment has been sew correctly according to the line that you explain in tp2 small versio n?
Hey Swee Choon Chew - we've added the updates of this pack to the full written review packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ 😊
- Rebecca
If this isn't the pack for a torrential down-poor, which one is your pick for that? I'm looking for something with heavy weather proofing+good with boxy items+and has side access
Hi ErinRose Winter - here are a couple highly weather resistant packs that come to mind:
Mission Workshop Radian: packhacker.com/travel-gear/mission-workshop/radian/
Black Ember Citadel Modular Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/black-ember/citadel-modular-backpack/
Trakke Storr Carry-On Backpack: packhacker.com/travel-gear/trakke/storr-carry-on-backpack/
Hope this helps!

Would you be reviewing Aer's Tech Pack from their Work Collection?
Hey Giovanni-it's not in our immediate pipeline, but we'll check it out!
-Hannah
@@PackHacker Would love to see your thoughts on their Tech Pack :)
We'll see what we can do!
-Hannah
does the new Aer Travel Pack 2 have the small tuck in pouch like the Aer Travel Pack 2 Small one for the shoes?
Hey Robert! The Aer Travel Pack 2 has a separate shoe compartment that fits up to men's size 13 shoes. 👍
- Rebecca
Does this bag fit underneath an airplane seat in the form of a personal item?
Hey Constandinos, this pack is a bit too big as a personal item - but it fits within most carry-on size regulations.
- Nathan
Can you suggest some backpacks that allow me to hold my laptop and iPad pro, text books, a few notebooks, ability to expand or just have room for workout clothes/shoes. I commute so waterproofing is nice as well as comfort for long wear. Please please. I've been looking at bags for the past week!
The Aer Travel Pack 2 would be a great choice!
We also suggest checking out the Thule Subterra 34L ( packhacker.com/travel-gear/thule/subterra-34l/ ) and the Aer Flight Pack 2 (full review coming soon!).
What would be the width if you fully compressed the bag? I am debating if this would be good for an everyday carry as well as one bag.
Hey Lewsir - this one is totally doable for EDC, especially with the compression straps. Generally, it's a smaller pack than we usually review as well.
- Tom
This bag is not distributed in Europe... Does anyone know how much fees ? Or where to buy in Europe ?
Hey Deckard - you can check out Aer's shipping info here www.aersf.com/shipping 😊
- Rebecca
Hi can I fit peak design camera cube inside aer travel pack 2 the medium size cube ?
Hey Abdullah - we just tested this out and the Peak Design Medium Camera Cube does fit inside the Aer Travel Pack 2. Hope this helps! 👍
- Rebecca
I noticed the material is different if you go with the gray or black camo versions. Any concerns?
Hey Chris-we tend to prefer black packs as they pick up less dirt, additionally the Cordura® ballistic nylon is a solid fabric choice!
-Hannah
I am traveling to Europe and will be having a carry on luggage. I was thinking of using this bag with my carry on for extra space. Will I have issues getting on to the plane. Will airlines really make me pay extra ?
Hey jattwhiskey604, every airline has different carry-on requirements-we recommend checking with the one you're flying with to ensure you're good!
Very safe answer. Dislike
Tom thank you for all the videos! Would you say that this pack fits less or about the same compared to your GR2 40L? I know it says it is 33L but seems much larger with the given dimension of the bag compared to the GR2
Thank you!
Hey Tommy! They're honestly pretty close. The GR2 holds a bit more, but since the Aer is a giant compartment, it can seem roomier.
What are your thoughts on KP zero g backpack
Hey Mimikyu The Pokémon! (sweet username). We haven't had a chance to test that one and don't have immediate plans to do so, however, we'll keep an eye out!
- Tom
Hello! Does anyone know - what's the bag hanging at the back, the one to the left of the grey peak design?
whats the bag to the right over the peak design every day backpack at the beginning? (on the wall)
This one? packhacker.com/travel-gear/minaal/carry-on-2-0-bag/
- Tom
@@PackHacker yep, thanks!
👍👍
Can I use it as a every day carry?
Could I cut off the briefcase handles without damaging the bag? They look ungainly and I'd only ever use it as a backpack and the pass-thru carry-on feature.
If you were careful, it looks like you could manage with minor (if any) damage. You could give it a shot! Let us know how it goes if you do, although we'll probably keep ours around as we're digging the versatile carry modes! 👍
-Hannah
Can you get into the main compartment and get stuff without opening the side buckle? Thanks.
It doesn't unzip all the way without opening the side buckles but you can get into just the top without completely unzipping 👍
hello!!!!, can you make a rviwe of the Lowepro Highline BP 400 AW??? its a 36 L. Thanks
We'll check it out! Thanks for the suggestion.
-Hannah
You could lock the zippers together correct ??
Hey Daniel, yes the zippers are lockable. All the best and thanks for watching,
- Nathan
Can you put it on a roller suitcase handle?
Hey Ashwin - on the back there is a grab panel which can be used as a luggage pass-through, so if you're using a roller bag you can just slip the bag on top and pass it through the handle. There's more information on this in our written review packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ - hope this helps! 😊👍
- Rebecca
This or the peak travel!? I can't decide ;(
Hey CABdosdos - we recommend checking out both of the full reviews so that you can find the right pack for you. Using these to compare the capacity, pros, cons, ratings and different features may help you decide. Hope this helps! 😊👍

There is no point denying this backpack is awesome, but, again, it is bloody expensive. Add to it waist strap price and feel sad about it)
You definitely get what you pay for in our opinion, oOcitizenOo!
thought on this vs the minaal carry on 2.0? which one holds more stuff?
Hmm - they're very similar in size so that's a toss up! Generally, the Minaal Carry-On 2.0 is about 35L (even though Minaal doesn't list this on their site) but Aer's travel pack is 33L. Aer has a boxier shape though, so that's something to consider. Honestly they're very similar in size!
How many days of clothes can this fit?
Hey franklin Somyem - we recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List video ua-cam.com/video/mGvHt4blPDc/v-deo.html where we show you how we packed this bag for over a month of continuous travel. Hope this helps! 😊
- Rebecca
is it enough for 1 week trip for 33 liter? help
Definitely! But of course, it all depends on what you pack. We're working on a packing list at the moment so keep an eye out for that one. Thanks,
- Nathan
I know it's a late response but you can do indefinite travel with this bag.
Can you fit a wandrd camera cube in here?
Hey Ryan! Which WANDRD camera cube are you referring to? Let us know and we can check this out by comparing the dimensions. 😊
- Rebecca
Essential plus!
Hey Ryan - we currently don't have this cube to verify the fit 100%, but from comparing the dimensions, it should just fit into the Aer Travel Pack 2. Hope this helps! 👍
- Rebecca
Can I keep DSLR in it...plz reply...
- Rebecca
@@PackHacker thanx...
Can the zippers on this pack be locked?
Hi William-yes, both the main compartment and laptop compartment offer lockable zippers.
-Hannah

this bag or.wandrd prvke 31L?
Both are great packs! However, your use case may suit one or the other better. For example, the Wandrd Prvke 31L is a great bag for photographers. Check out our full review: packhacker.com/travel-gear/wandrd/prvke/

Why do always go with boring black and grey colours?
Hey Mike, from our testing so far, we've found that darker colorways work best for travel as they show up the least amount of dirt and marks when you're on the road. However, if you prefer a pop of color, we recommend checking out the following packs:
- Tom Bihn Synik 30: packhacker.com/travel-gear/tom-bihn/synik-30/
