Nice video! I bought this backpack. After two weeks of use, my opinion has changed slightly. It is still as beautiful, practical, and made with quality materials. It's a tank! But for comfort it's not as perfect. If you are someone with good shoulder width, the straps are not wide enough. There should be swivels so the bag fits better at any shoulder width. Thanks, Austin - great review. Thanks to you, I clicked through from Packhacker and bought the Travel Pack 3 from Aer. And then I looked at your Digital Nomad Packing List and bought a ton of those items, too - thank you! I'm heading to India on the trip of a lifetime, and you guys have really helped equip me. One question, though: I'm a big guy, too big for the waist size of the Aer Hip Belt. While other backpack companies make a hip belt extender, Aer tells me they don't offer one. Do you know of something that might be compatible? I can't find a photo of the Aer hip belt "buckle" exposed. Or maybe is there any way to add some strapping at the points where the the hip belt secures to the Travel Pack 3?
Thanks for letting us know, Jonathan! We’re stocked for your new gear 😃 We don’t have experience with adding an extender, but you may be able to use an extender from a different company so long as it uses the same size clips, or you could add the clips yourself. I hope this helps! -Eric

Oh man, that's my dilemma right now. I'm debating between a Allpa 35L and Aer TP3 myself. I like that the Allpa can tuck/remove the straps out of the way, the inside compartments and that front pocket seems great for shoving a Nintendo Switch in there. The Aer TP3 seems tougher and more structured for less floppy wearing and can cinch down. What to doooo?
@@waffocopter I have the Alpa and while it's a nice pack, there's not a lot of versatility with outside compartments... just the one large pouch on the top front. I just ordered the Aer TP3 and will see how it works... I may end up with both and use the TP for air travel and the Alpa for auto travel, as I do like the side by side clamshell design of the Alpa. Any thoughts on b the new TP3 Ultra? Was in the same boat but after traveling with the 2 and watching this i think I still prefer the 2. the 33L i feel is the perfect sweetspot, i like the option of the shoe compartment that the 2 has, and i prefer the buckles on the compression straps vs the magnetic. The only thing i think i like the 3 is that the compression straps are placed behind the zippers for easier access and maybe the fact the 3 has the extra handles on all sides of the bag.
@@PackHacker2 I found about the 3 while on r/onebag person from reddit stated they were mostly doing European airline traveling and it was fine. This answers if its good for US flights which makes me happy
If you came from Facebook that you won this backpack for $2.80 you just sign yourself up for a high monthly subscription now cost you hundreds of dollars
What is your oppinion on best travel back pack that is a carry on for 4 to 7 day trips. Also will these back pack fit in the really small planes over head compartment?
I love the bag based of reviews and marketing, but read realistically it carries less than bags with the same rated volume. For a 2 week winter trip I like to take two pair of jeans, 7-8 shirts/underwear etc and a few long sleeve tops so only have to wash once per week or so. Also a pair of shoes and or flip flops. My Northface Overhaul 40 handles it without the expandable zippers used. So when I pick up some gifts I expand before returning home. I want a new bag and like the Aer travelpack 3, but seems the Peak or Alpa 35 or 42 may be better. Wonder if Aer plans to have a 30 vs 35 vs 45 expandable/retractable like Peak any time soon? I really like the bags style and features but I am concerned it will be practical for trips over 4 days.
@@PackHacker2 I love your enthusiasm for travel and detailed explanations of products and how they can be used while on the road and abroad. Great videos. I ended up ordering the Peak Travel Pack 45, to accompany the Overhaul 40, fingers crossed I like it.
With the compression straps being magnetic rather than buckled, would you feel safe putting a tripod on it? I was really hoping to suspend my tripod on the side using them
I'm sure you would have mentioned this if it was a feature, but just to confirm, are the straps not stowable? It didn't look like there was a spot to disengage and hide them away.
Great review - does anyone know if it’s possible to fit (squeeze ) a 17in laptop into the laptop compartment ?? Tech spec says it’s for up to 16in…wonder if any brave souls tried
I don’t like the fact the compression straps are inbetween the main zips, it means the zips are taking all the pressure from the carry load instead of it being mainly taken up by the compression straps. That makes it a no deal for me!
That's an interesting point! It will take a lot longer than three weeks to tell if there is additional pressure on the zips compared to the previous version, especially since the materials are quite durable. Thanks for watching! - Austin
In term of durability, which is one better Xpac vs. 1680D? I'm surprise the weight for Xpac is 4.2 lbs, same as 1680D. I was under impression Xpac would be lighter.
It is lighter. Aer just never correctly lists the difference between the two on their website. Last I checked, it comes out to 15-20% lighter than the 1680D on their other packs, could be more or less on the travel pack. In terms of durability, I’d have to imagine the 1680D is stronger, but I hear that it gets scuffed/dusty much moreso than the Xpac. It’s also more abrasive.
Great review. Don't suppose you would know (say from other bags you have seen) what the difference between this bag's black 1680D CORDURA and the grey variant's 700D CORDURA materials would be? No reviewers seem to be acknowledging the difference.
Hey there! We don't have the grey version to compare, but a lower denier typically means a reduction in weight when other factors like material are the same. - Austin
I own this bag in a bit more expensive X-Pac version, which is a little lighter, more water resistant and has nicer, brighter, easier to see interior color orange. I highly recommend either version if you're on the fence, thinking about buying it. Previously, I had Thule Subterra 23L for travelling, esp flying and that one was an utter disappointment. It just didn't fit much. This Aer Pack 3 has 1/3 more space based on # spec, but it actually feels that it fits a lot more than that compared to Thule's 23 liter claim. And you can fit perfectly under airline seat. The only downside is that it wasn't made elsewhere but China. I'd be willing to pay more if it costed more but made somewhere else.
Hey Žare! It's water/weather resistant (most things with zippers aren't "waterproof" since they're not submersible). The X-Pac version is even more weather resistant! - Tom
PD45L seems bulkier and has less organization. Expandability 35-45L is nice though (30-35L works like shit, worst feature from PD). If you pack light and enjoy organization I'd go for TP3, otherwise PD which is build like a tank.
I hate that all these bags make such a thin front compartment. Seems like Nomatic is the only one that doesn't, but you guys don't seem that impressed with their products. I just want a single bag with good organization, space OUTSIDE the main compartment for some larger headphones/pocket camera, and a clamshell mode for a laptop and tablet.
Hoping someone can offer some insight. My current EDC backpack is the 30L Recon backpack by the North Face. This backpack also works as my personal item on trips (no issues with it fitting underneath the seat on airplanes). I want to upgrade to a backpack with a clam shell opening to make it easier on trips when I want to pack my drone. In addition I’d probably toss in a packing cube, towel, sweatshirt and my speaker. I definitely don’t plan on packing it out to max capacity. My question is do I go with the Aer Travel Pack 3 (35 L) or the Travel Pack 3 small (28). The 30L in my NF Recon seems perfect. My concern is that the Travel Pack 3 small might not offer enough space and the Travel Pack 3 might be too big. Which ever backpack I get I want to still be able to use it as a personal item and not as a carry on. Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?

Was in the same boat but after traveling with the 2 and watching this i think I still prefer the 2. the 33L i feel is the perfect sweetspot, i like the option of the shoe compartment that the 2 has, and i prefer the buckles on the compression straps vs the magnetic. The only thing i think i like the 3 is that the compression straps are placed behind the zippers for easier access and maybe the fact the 3 has the extra handles on all sides of the bag.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@PackHacker2 I found about the 3 while on r/onebag person from reddit stated they were mostly doing European airline traveling and it was fine. This answers if its good for US flights which makes me happy
Where did you get that clip on the side of your backpack from in the thumbnail
how does it compare to the Tortuga Outbreaker?
Going to use this for business travel and need carry my 15" laptop to meetings. Can the laptop compartment hold the Aer Tech Folio or similar?
If you came from Facebook that you won this backpack for $2.80 you just sign yourself up for a high monthly subscription now cost you hundreds of dollars
Great review as always 🙌
Could you do a review of the Black ember Forge if possible?
Thank you and kind regards from UK 🙌
Added to the list for content consideration-thanks!

What is your oppinion on best travel back pack that is a carry on for 4 to 7 day trips. Also will these back pack fit in the really small planes over head compartment?
Im 5.7.5-5”8 male. Would it be perfect for me?
The travel pack small It’s flight personal item?
Can you review the new SYMPL Travel backpack pls. tnx
The only gripe i have and reason i will not buy this bag is total weight. It is crazy 1,9kg for empty bag.
Thanks for sharing your insights with us! 😃

I was really hoping to suspend my tripod on the side using them
i think it's a bad idea, one wrong move or bump with the tripod in there and it disengages
I'm sure you would have mentioned this if it was a feature, but just to confirm, are the straps not stowable? It didn't look like there was a spot to disengage and hide them away.
Correct - the straps are not stowable, but when you loosen the load lifters, they lay more flat on the bag.

Will a laptop + ipad fit in the laptop compartment?
Did you find out the answer to this?
Great review - does anyone know if it’s possible to fit (squeeze ) a 17in laptop into the laptop compartment ?? Tech spec says it’s for up to 16in…wonder if any brave souls tried
Does anyone knows where to buy this backpack in Canada? Thanks
It would be cool to know how a JBL speaker fits in the side water pocket. Any ideas?
I don’t like the fact the compression straps are inbetween the main zips, it means the zips are taking all the pressure from the carry load instead of it being mainly taken up by the compression straps. That makes it a no deal for me!
That's an interesting point! It will take a lot longer than three weeks to tell if there is additional pressure on the zips compared to the previous version, especially since the materials are quite durable. Thanks for watching!

Would I be able to store a Patagonia nano puff at the bottom of the front org pocket?? In the part that does not open
Do you have any discount code for it on the AER website?

No stow away shoulder straps is a fatal flaw to me.
Osprey Porter to the rescue, Minaal being too expensive.
X-PAC will be lighter by a few hundred grams. Would probably be around 3.9-4lbs for the X-Pac version. Very negligible.
Is the x-pac worth the upgrade?
It depends on what your needs are! You’ll save weight but lose a little durability. Both are great options!
-Eric
Looks great however the magnets instead of buckles was a really really bad idea. Would've bought otherwise
I see on AERs website the X-pack, what’s the difference? Is it just tougher material? Bulkier?
X-Pac is a lighter material 😃 More info: ua-cam.com/video/ZqKzlHUD6NY/v-deo.html

@@PackHacker2 appreciate the quick response eric! it only comes in orange? whats your thoughts on it vs the regular AER 3?
Great review. Don't suppose you would know (say from other bags you have seen) what the difference between this bag's black 1680D CORDURA and the grey variant's 700D CORDURA materials would be? No reviewers seem to be acknowledging the difference.
Hey there! We don't have the grey version to compare, but a lower denier typically means a reduction in weight when other factors like material are the same.

Does this fit under an airplane seat?
How does this compare to a Cabin Zero Pro?
Does the backpack sag? I hate it when my folders and notebooks get kinked because the backpack can't stay upright.
Is it waterproof /water resistant?
Hey Žare! It's water/weather resistant (most things with zippers aren't "waterproof" since they're not submersible). The X-Pac version is even more weather resistant!

Just ordered an Xpac-3 on the way to Germany, excited to use it on a trip home to the states in a week.
What sunglasses are those?
Have a great trip and enjoy the new pack, Charles!
- Austin
the sunglasses are the roav flat sunglasses. it's in their digital nomad review
Does it fit under seat of airlines?
The small version does.
@@curtpion2520 thanks
Your channel is amazing (and you're really cutee) x
😊
So cool but so heavy!
I can’t decide between this or the tortuga 😢
You're in good hands, either way 😃
Everything great but I prefer not the magnetic buckle
What’s the difference between the travel pack 3 and 3 X?
I assume you mean the X-Pac? It’s a different material-lighter, but a little less durable! Thanks for watching 😃
-Eric
Also the 3 small! I’d love to see the side by side.
Is hip belt removable?
Yes
AER 3 vs Peak D 45? Thoughts?
Also, for the AER, do you prefer the Xpac edition? Anyone have thoughts?
PD45L seems bulkier and has less organization. Expandability 35-45L is nice though (30-35L works like shit, worst feature from PD). If you pack light and enjoy organization I'd go for TP3, otherwise PD which is build like a tank.
What's the difference between Travel pack 3 and travel pack 3 X-PAC?
x-pac is a tougher more water resistent fabric
Great review! Just wear light color clothing so we can see it better.
I suspected that the City Pack would be the foundation for the Travel Pack 3. Looks like I suspected right.
Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity
Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?
If they’d gone with Duraflex instead of Fiddlock I could see this being half a point better out of 10.
Why do you say that? 🧐
-Eric
D ring and the water bottle pocket on the same side. Thats why d ring side has been switched
What’s the d-ring’s relationship with the water bottle?
The D-ring was on the same side as the water bottle holder on the TP2 as well.
@@aayotechnology when pulling out a water bottle with the bag on one shoulder, the dangling thing attached to d-ring stays around your chest area, not behind of your thigh/bottom area.
wild guess.
