Awesome video, Danny! I just ordered the AER Travel Pack 3 Small after watching a few of your videos. Very fair and honest reviews. I had also looked into other brands such as TOPOS, Evergoods, Black Ember, and a few others, but this one best fit my needs as an educator with carrying around laptop, books, notebooks, etc. The Evergoods CHZ 26L came close, but AER was just the best fit overall. Thank you for your helpful videos!
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the videos have been helpful! Those are all great options, but I think this one is really impressive and I hope you enjoy using it a lot!:)
Thanks for the review, very informative! Would you go for 28L or 35L carrying the following for daily commuting (peak hour train): - 15 inch laptop - charger - shoes - rain jacket - headphones case - water bottle (inside pack) - work headset

Thanks for the super detailed review! I recently traveled with the peak design 45L, but I felt it was uncomfortable to carry. Will be considering this one in the future!
Thank you for watching and for the support! Both bags hold an impressive amount but I feel like the TP small holds a bit more particularly if you are using packing cubes
Thank you for watching! Definitely a really tough choice! If I could only have one I’d probably go with the travel pack 3 small since it’s more comfortable, has better laptop protection and works a little better as an edc bag in my opinion. However if travel was my primary use case I would go with the MLC as it’s lighter and the simpler layout can really hold an impressive amount

Hey so I’m thinking about buying the tp3 small but do you think a 17 inch laptop would fit in the laptop compartment where the false bottom is? And is it just the sleeve with the false bottom or the whole compartment?
After using TUMI Alpha backpack for past 10 years, I am looking for cost effective but yet still maintain high quality backpack. Hope that Aer Travel Pack 3 small won’t disappoint me otherwise I have to go back to TUMI 😂
Hey Danny, would i be able to fit a 2nd slim laptop in the space on the other side of the laptop sleeve? Hopefully that made sense, it looks large enough (mainly thinking depth) but I can't totally tell. Thanks in advance
hey great video. I'm 5ft 9 tall, and want to carry one back pack and one cabin (little suitcase) everywhere for digital nomad and travel, which bag out of the two do you recommend? also I want to know if the standard Are travel pack 3 will count as personal bag so check in is cheaper and I only pay for 1 additional cabin luggage (the little suitcase)... your opinion will be greatly appreciated
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! You might be able to get away with the 35l travel pack on some airlines but I believe it might be a little big for a personal item and I would lean towards the smaller version
I just saw the travel pack 2 small almost new for $150 in the gray color. Do you think the travel pack 3 small may be a better option for the extra $70-100?🤔
Thank you for watching! The travel pack small 2 still holds up well and even has a shoe compartment that is not on the three. The biggest upgrades would be a better laptop compartment, compression straps and load lifters on the travel pack 3, for me the laptop and compression straps might make it worth it but depends how much those matter for your use cases
@@dannypacks thanks for the reply! Actually something went wrong with buying the travel pack 2. So maybe it’s a sign haha. Keep up with the good content!
These bags look fantastic, I just wish they weren't that heavy. I know they have an xpac version that is a tad lighter, but for it to float around 4lbs is a bit much. Wish they went with a lighter ballistic nylon like tom bihn
Thank you for watching and definitely a fair point on the weight. They offer lot of features and comfort for the weight but it is on the higher end for sure
Yes! That is my main concern with these bags - I am trying to minimize weight. I wish they went with ballistic nylon, too. I also think they are a bit heavy on pockets- some people like that but too many pockets makes me forget what I up where.
Hi Danny, im very hesitant between the Aer travel pack 3 regular/small and the able carry max for 1 week travels. wich one would you choose or recommend me? Thank you.
@@MrNayot i also dont carry any tech/laptop so its very hard to wsee on video wich compartements are bigger. I'm guessing able carry is better if you dont have tech but yeah.. since the price is quite high i ratehr ask some people with experience.
Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! Overall I prefer the travel pack 3 (small if you want to use for edc/regular if you pack a little more typically). I really like the able carry but I like the pocket layout on the travel pack a bit more as it provides some additional options and the laptop compartment feels a little more protective, I also like that the aer bags have a more traditional external water bottle pocket
Awesome review thank you! I'm tossing between the Travel Pack 3 small and the Tortuga Outbreaker Laptop bag. I'm leaning toward the Aer due to the compression straps and load lifters. My target use would be a smaller travel/weekend bag and often wind up under an airplane seat. Any thoughts?
Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! Both options are great, I find the tortuga to be slightly more comfortable and I like that it’s organizational layout is a little simpler, but I prefer the aesthetic of the aer backpack and it’s just really solid overall. So I guess if you prefer to have some extra flexibility (compression straps, load lifters, etc) the travel pack might be the way to go and if you want something a little simpler tortugas may be the better option
What is you height? I just ordered mine earlier this day but I'm kind of confused if it will fit me. As I've seen in this video both looks good on you.
Thank you for watching! I think the regular size would be a little too tall for most airlines and get flagged for not fitting comfortably under the seat by the stricter airline staff
Thank you for watching! Personally I don’t think it looks too big, if you look at my recent video on larger personal items I have some shots of my wife who is 5’ wearing the bag so you can get a sense of how it looks
Hoping someone can offer some insight. My current EDC backpack is the 30L Recon backpack by the North Face. This backpack also works as my personal item on trips (no issues with it fitting underneath the seat on airplanes). I want to upgrade to a backpack with a clam shell opening to make it easier on trips when I want to pack my drone. In addition I’d probably toss in a packing cube, towel, sweatshirt and my speaker. I definitely don’t plan on packing it out to max capacity. My question is do I go with the Aer Travel Pack 3 (35 L) or the Travel Pack 3 small (28). The 30L in my NF Recon seems perfect. My concern is that the Travel Pack 3 small might not offer enough space and the Travel Pack 3 might be too big. Which ever backpack I get I want to still be able to use it as a personal item and not as a carry on. Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?
Thank you for watching! From my experience and load outs I would say the travel pack small can hold a similar amount to the surge and the regular travel pack 3 will offer more space and might start to get a little too big as s personal item (I have also enjoyed using the tp3 small as an edc bag)
Thank you for watching! The small version has worked as a personal item on airlines like spirit / southwest / American Airlines, and the larger one has worked as a carry on that fits in the overhead bin
Thank you for watching! Definitely a tough choice, I like xpac but I prefer the more subtle look of the ballistic nylon and I also like it doesn’t have the bright orange lining (I do think the xpac offers a little more weather resistance tho so something to consider)
Im pretty sold on this bag in the small 28L version. Do you feel this small travel pack 3 bag can fit under the seat of most airline planes do to it's smaller size Danny? As a personal item. Please advise and thanks
Thank you for watching! Although the bag might surpass the “official” dimensions for personal items I have been able to use this as a personal item on a spirit flight so I think it should work across a variety of airlines (you can see a picture of it under the seat on one of my instagram posts)
Hi Danny, I'm struggling to decide between the TP3 and TP3 Small, I have a larger frame and longer torso, 6'4 200 lbs, with 20.8 inch torso. Planning to use it as an EDC to office + Light travel ( 1 week max). Do you think the TP3 will look to massive for EDC? Appreciate your input.
Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! I think with your height you could maybe make it work, but I might still lean towards the small version for edc (with your height it would probably look like a regular day bag, maybe similar to how the city pack pro looks on me?)
Thank you for watching! This is definitely on the heavier side, it’s a fair trade off for the padding and comfort, but I think the minaal carry on is slightly lighter as well as some of the options from Osprey, Arcido or matador might be worth taking a look at
Thank you for watching and definitely a tricky choice, for me personally the 3 is a little too big for edc and I would use the small version more but I know there are some people that are ok using the full size
Its almost like there should be a 31L version urghhhhh! dont know which to go with for commuter bag on train with computer, accesories, jacket, water bottle
@@kinell188 I’m in the same boat in commuting with a bag to accommodate all you mentioned plus lunch and maybe a change of clothes. I think what is changing my mind is the addition of load lifters. It might make the bigger bag (35L) more manageable. The other thing I’ve seen is difference in water bottle size. I have a 32 ounce insulated Kleen Kanteen and I don’t think it will fit in the TP3 small.
@@alf.quijano7582 i have a 25L backpack now that is quite cramped but has poor access, i think i'm going to go with the 28L because it can be fully opened flat and therefore better packed. Hopefully i've made the right choice!
Awesome review. The original buckles on the sternum and the compression straps just look sturdier and more functional. The magnets, on the other hand, seem to be there just for looks. I would use those more for holding down stuff so they would need to be really secure and not come open easily. The number of zippered pockets seem a bit much. Dunno if the interior side pocket is needed given that there's one on the top inside of the laptop compartment. It's just me but a bit of pocket fatigue going on there -since you can't use all of them on front otherwise it just bulges out more.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! Definitely some fair points, so far the magnetic buckles have felt secure, but for tightly securing gear I can see how the older buckles might provide a little more peace of mind. And as much as I like some of the new pocket additions there are definitely a few I don’t see myself using too regularly
Hi Jack, I agree with you. There is pocket fatigue for me. Too many pockets just add weight and I get confused where I put what. Like 1 small outside zipper pocket for ear buds, gum etc. Then 1-2 inside zippers. Yeah, I worry about the magnetic buckles too. It would have been interesting for Danny to have put them to a test. I would not roll up a jacket and use a magnetic strap to secure.
@@CB-vg1wq I used my TP3 on a recent trip this month and I noticed the compression straps came loose a few times -thankfully, I didn't use them to secure anything. I didn't use more than 1/2 of the pockets. As for the water bottle pocket, that's just a bad design since it doesn't give enough depth. The water bottle on the City Pack Pro looks like a better approach. Overall, the TP3 worked well and I didn't need the hip-belt.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! It’s possible for them to stand on their own, but it can be a little inconsistent and will depend how the bag is loaded out
Which do you prefer, the Aer Travel Collection or the Peak Design Travel Line with the Travel Backpack? I have to choose one of these two systems. Please feel free to share your opinion.
Thank you for watching! Both lines have a lot to offer, for me I much prefer the aer line in terms of aesthetic, comfort, and functionality. However I may be a bit biased as I don’t really carry that much camera gear so that may something to think about if you to carry and quickly access that type of gear on the regular
Thank you for watching! Both are definitely solid travel bag options, if you need to carry more stuff or you travel with camera gear the peak design may have some advantages but overall I prefer the aer travel pack as I like it’s organizational layout a bit more and I also find the harness system to be more comfortable
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I think it will depend a little on your preferences and height but for me the small version can work really well for edc :)
Thank you for watching! I think the small version works very well as an edc, the larger version would likely be a bit big for me for edc, although it could work depending on your height and the items you normally carry with you
It has 3 external pockets. 1 large front pocket and 1 small pocket on top and 1 small pocket on the side. If you like lots of pockets, I think Tom Bihn has a few designs with many external pockets.
Thank you for watching! The capsule pack has many of the improvements that were added to this one, it’s not going to have quite as many organizational options but if you have a capsule pack and are happy with it it may not be worth the upgrade
Do you have a preference on GR2 or TP3? I know they each look totally different. I really like the idea of compression straps on the TP3, but it seems like the front compartment of the GR2 can hold more stuff and expand outwards more? My travels are usually no more than 1.5 weeks long, and I want a bag to haul things to/from airport/hotel that can also fit under an airplane seat. I have a Bullet Ruck I plan to pack to use for EDC. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and definitely a tough choice! I do really like the layout of the front compartment of the gr2 and I will always have a soft spot for the aesthetic and the durability but overall I would likely lean towards the travel pack as I find it a little more comfortable and I prefer some of the additional organizational options that it has. One thing to mention is both of these might be a little tricky to fit under the seat on certain airlines especially if they are really packed out
@@dannypacks Appreciate the reply, this is helpful! I enjoy watching your review videos and it's nice that you model the bags so we can actually see what it looks like on someone walking around. Thank you and keep up the great work!
The weight is definitely on the higher end, for me it’s worth it for the amount of padding and features that come with the bag, but I can see how that might be a turn off especially if you’re worried about weight restrictions on certain airlines
Very helpful, thanks! Was thinking if the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small would fit under the airplane seat so as to take it as a Personal Item and not have to pay for Carry-on. Have you tested that? Using the full 28L, but not overstuffing it.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I have used it as a personal item on spirit airlines and it was able to fit under the seat! Haven’t had a chance to try it on Ryanair or easyjet tho
Thank you for watching! I’m glad they kept a similar aesthetic with this one although I do slightly prefer the size and silhouette of the travel pack 2
Nice video, for office edc, which do you think is better for carrying laptop + that extra pouch that comes with it? The aer travel bp small 3 or the Bellroy Transit Workpack?
Thank you for watching and for the heads up! It looks like the links are working now, but I will definitely keep an eye out and make sure there are no additional issues
Awesome video, honest and great perspective! First time I landed on your channel and already subscribed! I'm still hesitating between the small or the regular version. I like the versatility of the small one as EDC, but as a digital nomad I don't know if the regular size will fit me better. Could you give me an advice since you have them side by side? I'm just afraid the Regular one will be to big in general (cabin, big in the back) PS. I have the same frame as you 5'11
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I’m general I prefer the versatility of the smaller version and I think it works better for edc, I would primarily go for the larger bag if I needed something for longer trips regularly
Thank you for watching! I don’t have a console that I could fully test with but based on what I’ve been able to carry in this bag I would say it would be able to hold it
Great Video! Question I am torn between the Travel SMALL vs the Flight Pack. I lean toward minimal everyday (hence the flight pack) but love the idea of ONE bag if I want to take weekend trip.Would you thoughts on this? - The briefcase mode is becoming less and less important for everyday. Thank you!
Next time tell Aer that we are not all males, and that we all do not just want a black pack. I love their designs, but given the all black options. I am not ever going to buy it. Storable straps for airline travel and a secret pocket on the back. As a woman, I am not asking for bright pinks or yellows or other pastel colors. Just some blues, greens, that are not too dark, or army looking. Maybe it is because I have a pet and black just shows the cat hair too easily. So the Dopp kit bag may be something I would consider for a bag to hang on the seat back in front of me for easy access during the flight. Still only black (sigh)
Thank you for watching! I have a dog so I definitely understand the struggle of keeping the bag looking clean and in the past aer has released some of their bags in navy and olive green in addition to their black and grey options so hopefully those colors make their way to the travel line in the future. Also, I like the idea of using the hook on the Dopp kit for a flight!:)
Thank you for watching! I believe the small version of this could fit on larger airlines, but might be a little too big on something like spirit or Ryan air (I think the regular version would be too big for most airlines and would have to go in overhead storage)
Cool review/walkthrough, thanks! Production Tip: I've watched a number of your vids and the production could use a couple of things: video is consistently overexposed, bring it down a stop; audio is always peaking and in the red, sounds terrible - bring it down a few clicks!
Thank you for watching! The small might fit under larger airlines but in general I think it will end up being a little tall and because it has a rigid frame sheet you can’t really squeeze it into the space comfortably
Thank you for watching and definitely a fair concern! For me the padding and features are worth the weight (I’ve also travelled quite a bit with the gr2 and evergoods CTB which are fairly heavy as well) but I can see how the weight might be worrisome particularly on stricter airlines
Thank you for watching! Although I still like having the built in compartment, I think a bag for my shoes is definitely a good alternative for this version

Hey Danny, would i be able to fit a 2nd slim laptop in the space on the other side of the laptop sleeve? Hopefully that made sense, it looks large enough (mainly thinking depth) but I can't totally tell. Thanks in advance
Nice review. Do you know by any chance the measurements of the main compartment on both backpacks?
hey great video.
Thank you.
Same for me. Not sure which one to get
@@MrNayot i also dont carry any tech/laptop so its very hard to wsee on video wich compartements are bigger.
@@dannypacks Thanks for the reply.
I am 5’11” :)
Danny, would the regular sized TP3 fit under international carriers (generally speaking, and if you don't fill the bag to the gills)?
Thank you for watching! I think the regular size would be a little too tall for most airlines and get flagged for not fitting comfortably under the seat by the stricter airline staff
thx for this video! do you think the small size is too big for EDC?
sorry I wasn't paying attention, you mentioned it wasn't too big in your video lol
No worries I know it was a pretty long video :) and yup I think this can work well for edc
Does aer travel pack 3 small look too big for a 5'6" foot tall guy? I'm planning to buy this backpack but still in doubt. Please reply. Thanks
Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity
Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?
Thank you for watching! From my experience and load outs I would say the travel pack small can hold a similar amount to the surge and the regular travel pack 3 will offer more space and might start to get a little too big as s personal item (I have also enjoyed using the tp3 small as an edc bag)
when you say "never have to check it" does this means it fits in front of your plane sit like a personal item?
Thank you for watching! The small version has worked as a personal item on airlines like spirit / southwest / American Airlines, and the larger one has worked as a carry on that fits in the overhead bin
Would you purchase the normal Travel pack 3 small or the x-pac version? thanks in advance
Thank you for watching! Definitely a tough choice, I like xpac but I prefer the more subtle look of the ballistic nylon and I also like it doesn’t have the bright orange lining (I do think the xpac offers a little more weather resistance tho so something to consider)
@@dannypacks Great reviews...keep up the good work.
Hi Danny, is there a similar designed bag but much lighter? This bag looks so heavy
Thank you for watching! This is definitely on the heavier side, it’s a fair trade off for the padding and comfort, but I think the minaal carry on is slightly lighter as well as some of the options from Osprey, Arcido or matador might be worth taking a look at
will this backpack fit a razer blade 17?
I’m torn between the 2 sizes. Do you think the new Travel Pack 3 is too big to use as an EDC. I’m 5’11 like you.
Thank you for watching and definitely a tricky choice, for me personally the 3 is a little too big for edc and I would use the small version more but I know there are some people that are ok using the full size
@@dannypacks Thank you for the feedback and this great video!
You may have mentioned this but can you tell us how tall you are? I’m trying to gauge how the pack might look on me at 5f6
Thank you for watching! I am 5’11” :)
Overall, the TP3 worked well and I didn't need the hip-belt.
do you think that you can daily carry the travel pack 3 small?
with lots of tech gears on it?
No one is answering this anymore, really frustrating!
Thank you for watching! And yes I think the travel pack small can work as a daily carry bag and should be able to handle your tech gear well
Nice review!!! One question: can these bags stands on its own?
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! It’s possible for them to stand on their own, but it can be a little inconsistent and will depend how the bag is loaded out
how do you attach a sleeping bag to this?
Thank You Danny!
Thank you for watching!:)
However I may be a bit biased as I don’t really carry that much camera gear so that may something to think about if you to carry and quickly access that type of gear on the regular
can you do a comparison between travel pack 3 vs peak design 45l
Thank you for watching! Both are definitely solid travel bag options, if you need to carry more stuff or you travel with camera gear the peak design may have some advantages but overall I prefer the aer travel pack as I like it’s organizational layout a bit more and I also find the harness system to be more comfortable
What is the price ?
With travel pack 3 small is it still too big as a everyday carry looking in to getting aer go pack or am I waiting my money.
Great review 👏
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I think it will depend a little on your preferences and height but for me the small version can work really well for edc :)
Can this awesome backpack be used as an EDC?
Thank you for watching! I think the small version works very well as an edc, the larger version would likely be a bit big for me for edc, although it could work depending on your height and the items you normally carry with you
I wish it had a lot more external pockets.
It has 3 external pockets. 1 large front pocket and 1 small pocket on top and 1 small pocket on the side. If you like lots of pockets, I think Tom Bihn has a few designs with many external pockets.
Great video. Do you think this is much of an upgrade from the AER capsule 35L, besides the slight difference?
The only gripe i have and reason i will not buy this bag is total weight. It is crazy 1,9kg for empty bag.
The weight is definitely on the higher end, for me it’s worth it for the amount of padding and features that come with the bag, but I can see how that might be a turn off especially if you’re worried about weight restrictions on certain airlines
Plastic D-Ring is perfect for an S-Clip to hold your water bottle because that water bottle pouch sure isn’t going to.
@@dannypacks thanks for the answer! Definitely don’t think it would fit under Ryanairs 😂, but if you do try it please update on it
travel pack 2 still looks best
Travel pack 2 design flaw is the buckle that gets in the way of the main compartment zippers. The travel pack 3 fixes this, thank god!!
Thank you for watching! For office edc, I might lean towards the transit workpack as it’s a little more compact and lighter
Links to servers do not work btw. May want to fix that or tell us when they allow access.
I’m general I prefer the versatility of the smaller version and I think it works better for edc, I would primarily go for the larger bag if I needed something for longer trips regularly
can the aer travel pack 3 small fit a ps5 inside?
Thank you for watching! I don’t have a console that I could fully test with but based on what I’ve been able to carry in this bag I would say it would be able to hold it
Great Video! Question I am torn between the Travel SMALL vs the Flight Pack. I lean toward minimal everyday (hence the flight pack) but love the idea of ONE bag if I want to take weekend trip.Would you thoughts on this? - The briefcase mode is becoming less and less important for everyday. Thank you!
get both rich boi
What did you get? This is my dilemma too.
I would go with the travel small. It is small but gives you just a bit more room.
Review the backpack sog surrpet 24 :D
Thank you for watching and for the suggestion! I’ll have to see if I can get one to test out!:)
Good video
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful!:)
Plus the noisy zipper pulls 😣...or is it just me who don't like those?
They have it in grey as well.
@@ev6377 zipper pulls aren't noisy anymore with the new smaller metal pull tabs
@@johnnynguyen3521 I see.thanks
Thank you for watching! I have a dog so I definitely understand the struggle of keeping the bag looking clean and in the past aer has released some of their bags in navy and olive green in addition to their black and grey options so hopefully those colors make their way to the travel line in the future. Also, I like the idea of using the hook on the Dopp kit for a flight!:)
Will these AER bags realistically fit under an airplane seat?
Thank you for watching! I believe the small version of this could fit on larger airlines, but might be a little too big on something like spirit or Ryan air (I think the regular version would be too big for most airlines and would have to go in overhead storage)
Cool review/walkthrough, thanks! Production Tip: I've watched a number of your vids and the production could use a couple of things: video is consistently overexposed, bring it down a stop; audio is always peaking and in the red, sounds terrible - bring it down a few clicks!
Thank you for watching and for the helpful feedback! My videography is definitely still a work in progress so these types of suggestions are great!:)
Would the small go under seat on a 737/A320/A321?
Thank you for watching! The small might fit under larger airlines but in general I think it will end up being a little tall and because it has a rigid frame sheet you can’t really squeeze it into the space comfortably
Way too heavy for air travel.
Matador beast 28 seems a better option
Thank you for watching and definitely a fair concern! For me the padding and features are worth the weight (I’ve also travelled quite a bit with the gr2 and evergoods CTB which are fairly heavy as well) but I can see how the weight might be worrisome particularly on stricter airlines
Just put your dirty shoes in a plastic bag
Thank you for watching! Although I still like having the built in compartment, I think a bag for my shoes is definitely a good alternative for this version
