Thank you! Yes, all the notes toward the beginning that Sam was talking about subharmonics with were just his normal bass voice. It's not that super rare for a true bass to be able to hit C/C# pretty easily.
I didn’t notice it until someone else pointed it out! For those who are ??? listen for it when you hear “add a little spice” and Geoff is in the background.
Geoff Castelluci is the bass singer. That was a subharmonic E1 at the end. He can go lower. He just released a solo cover of 'The Headless Horseman' you'd probably really like as well. Voiceplay did a cover a while back of 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' which is also really good. Their non-Halloween music is just as good. A couple other amazing acappella groups are Home Free and Pentatonix. Home Free has an incredible beat boxer. 'Man of Constant Sorrow' is one I'd suggest of theirs.
Geoff's range has been shown to be from B0 in Halo Theme to A5 which is very nearly 6 octaves. Santa Claus is Geoff's neighbor who doesn't do this kind of stuff.
I second this!!! And perhaps a reaction to "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" from TNBC featuring Rachel Potter when it becomes public?? They are releasing it this Friday on their UA-cam channel. It's freakin ahhmazing!
You HAVE to react to The Headless Horseman Bass singer cover Geoff Castellucci !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/8rrg0ksSQdw/v-deo.html
Beat boxer Laine Klein doubles on bass when Geoff sings lead. They are all amazing singers. And since you're already in Halloween mode, you should listen to the cover of "This is Halloween."
*seconds into Geoff Castelluci vid* "He's probably using his subharmonic register to hit some of these notes" Me: "lmao oh you just wait princess, hope there's no glass in your house."
The guy that was doing the character voice that you really loved was Earl who sadly left this year. His non character voice really shines in their Queen in 5 minutes medley and its one of my favourites. Always makes me emotional
yes the guy who encouraged him to subharmonics is Tim Foust (home Free a cappella group) you could hear Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust in "misty mountains" is a master piece. Stay safe
Every low note from Geoff so in chest besides the very last low note. That was an subharmonic E1. The technique you thought of is growl, which the guy from home free, tim foust, mastered.
Its funny that you talk about the man portraying Santa Claus. He's not actually a performer; rather, I've heard he was a neighbor and friend of Geoff Castellucci who just happened to be able to do a perfect imitation of the Santa Claus part from the original film, so when they needed a Santa Claus, they asked him to do it and he agreed.
My wife said Geoff covered 4 octaves in that finale... she has perfect pitch so I believe her. Her piano does not actually go low enough on that last note to confirm. I think it would be chalked up as an E1...my ear is not as good as hers as far as note identification even if I am very attuned (pun intended) to vocals in general.
Yaaaaassss! I am so happy you reacted to this! I was expecting it for so long! I was right that you would love it! Thank you Sam!🌷 I think the bass line Geoff does through the whole song. J (baritone) can go quite low as well. Erl that does the nasal high pitch thingy is the high tenor. His voice is like a laser beam! Props for catching that little bass drop doo doo doom most people seem to miss it! I can do the nasally thing. It is easy for me but I think is a biological thing. How I am built. So no credit for learning it 😛. Plus outside of any character based thing it is just annoying 🤣 Yay I can do the annoying sounds at least!🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was a great start! Can't wait for the next !
You should listen to "The Little Mermaid Medley" they made. If I'm not wrong (and based in what I've read), Geoff jumps 3.5 octaves in 4 seconds. It's INSANE.
The guy who is playing Santa Claus is not a singer, he is Geoff's next door neighbor. Layne is the beatboxer, he's the one on the right with the flashing nose. He also arranged this song.
Yay Sam! I love your reactions so much and Have been watching this video so much the past two days or so, and here you are doing a reaction! I cannot wait, Huge fan mate lovely stuff.
The guy with the Rudolph red nose is the beatboxer/percussionist and also the arranger of this song. They are acapella and as far as I know like HomeFree or Pentatonix use only voices.
Please react to Geoff's The Headless Horseman! Edit to add - the bass line was Geoff added in, and the beatboxer was the guy to the right of him doing all the percussion.
@@SSTVocalCoach It really looked stunning! But in my small village we have a store specialized in artist makeup and people from over the borders are buying here. The first thing I heard was that male makeup/creme is really different than female products and they said: you will feel the difference after 10-15 minutes. It will itch, flake, cause skinrash. So always use male products, especially for the 1st layer (foundation). But hey, raccoons do scratch themselfs every minute or so....... ;-)
@@SSTVocalCoach Still looked great! What kind of make-up did you use? In my black metal days we used theater make-up, white and black(corpse paint). We set it with powder and didn't sweat off or itch.
4:33 . Personally the way I would describe a subharmonic is by playing 2 notes at 1 time a vocal fry with a higher note attached to it . Or like applying a force to a vocal fry to try and project it out of your mouth harder . And personally it dosent low me to go an octave lower but that's not a bad thing because now I can do it in a higher register I can make it sound more like computer generated and techno instead
Let's be honest, we're all just here to see the makeup in action. And you try to hide the plant way in the background. Don't you worry, my fine ficuslike friend, I see you 👈😉👍
This whole video is geoffs chest voice except for the last note (well his upper range is prob head voice). I know because I can match him until the last note 😂😂
Really? --- If ya don't know anything about the group, then ya wouldn't know! So -- Home Free, YES --- but hold off on Mayday till you've learned who is who and who does what ... and their names. Otherwise, the significance is totally missed. (9 to 12 vids)

I read a comment that it was ELI (the guy in red) who did Santa’s voice. I’m still having trouble fathoming that. If true he should also be doing character voices because that one doesn’t sound like him at all.
Please check out BTOB, they are amazing! They are unique as their songs are more ballad driven. Their vocals, harmonies and rap skills are insane! Thank you 😊
4:02 Sam: Geoff's hitting some pretty low notes.
Me :*rubbing hands together with glee* "Oh, just you wait."
FYI: Only Geoffs last note was in the subharmonic register, and the bassline is also geoff in a double take
the last low note is a subharmonic E1
@@soultanasamara9942 forgot to mentipn that yes, it is a sub E1
also the vocal run at 06:56 is also subharmonic

_Oh my sweet summer child_
sam in the first 2 minutes: wooah we're hitting some super low notes here.. me, knowing what's bout to go down: you have no idea sam... no idea
"Blackbird" really shows Geoff's range. Also "Misty Mountains" by Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust is a great one.
I like both. Still, my heart belongs to "the Misty Mountains" rendition.
@@Fandangtastic 💯!!!
THIS! 100% THIS!
Geoff just released his own take on Misty Mountains, and it is *gorgeous.*
Gregg doing Misty Mountains rendition is MY favorite! This is awesome too.
At 4 minutes he's talking about how low Geoff is going... Friend you do not know how low he can go.
But thank you for the explaining things more. I watch a lot of reactors and you go more in depth than almost any I have ever seen.
Yeah, he was talking about those “really low notes,” and I was thinking, “You haven’t heard the REALLY low notes yet!”
Voice play has one of the best beat boxers ever
Have you seen Home Free’s bass Adam Rupp’s drum solo?
@@DennisKovacich yep. One of the best
Between voice play, home free, and ptx you have in my opinion the 3 best beat boxers in the world
Not to mention he's incredible at arrangement.
Right??? I've seen people comment that Adam Rupp swallowed a trap kit to achieve his sound repertoire, Lane Stein must've ingested a synthesizer.
Geoff Castelluci is the bass singer. That was a subharmonic E1 at the end. He can go lower. He just released a solo cover of 'The Headless Horseman' you'd probably really like as well. santa is not part of voiceplay he is Geoff`s brother in law
Yes, but Santa's vocals were done by Eli, who is in VoicePlay. :) Geoff's brother-in-law just lip-synced the part.
Geoff's range has been shown to be from B0 in Halo Theme to A5 which is very nearly 6 octaves. Santa Claus is Geoff's neighbor who doesn't do this kind of stuff.
Sam: *talking about his high notes and "really" low notes a minute in*

Beat boxer Laine Klein doubles on bass when Geoff sings lead. They are all amazing singers. And since you're already in Halloween mode, you should listen to the cover of "This is Halloween."
3:11
sam: "now geoff is hitting some SUPER low notes"
me: "just you wait..."
It helps Geoff that his talking voice is naturally low voice and he could really relax which helps him with range too
Geoff sang in chest until the last note which was subharmonics

"He's probably using his subharmonic register to hit some of these notes"

Laine, the beatboxer also sings bass at times.
they have a beatboxer he was the guy that played "Zero", Jack Skellington's dog

Jack Skellington's "dog" is named Zero.
Every low note from Geoff so in chest besides the very last low note. That was an subharmonic E1. The technique you thought of is growl, which the guy from home free, tim foust, mastered.

I was under the impression that Santa was played by Geoff's brother-in-law. That guy's daughter is the first singer we hear on Just Sing.
Awesome reaction, would love to see you go over all the techniques they use in Kidnap the Sandy Claws!
Geoff is an amazing talent, a basso profundo with a 5 octave range. His lows can probably destroy a speaker, lol.
