  • Day to Day DIY is a videos series where I take you guys around the house, solve problems and complete tasks that every homeowner runs into.
    Get your Shirt on!! bit.ly/DITylerM...
    In this video I show you how to use some scrap PVC pipe to make some super quick tool holders for your garage or barn. I used a bandsaw and miter saw to make these cuts but you could certainly use a jigsaw or sawzall to complete this hack.

    Dude.. LOVE this. I have a PILE of garden tools leaning against the wall of my shed currently. I also have 20ft of 2 1/2in. PVC left over from when I installed a new furnace this year. I see this design calling my name! The only thing I think I will change is I will attach a 1x4 rail across the studs so I can hang things between the studs as well this taking up less horizontal space. Thanks for sharing!

    Great idea Tyler. Even I could do that with all our garden tools. Love your day to day series too. Your children are so cute and I love your son saying "check it out" over and over. Beautiful family for sure. Keep doing the simple stuff for folks like me.

    I love your approach!
    You can cut the slots in the pvc all at once on a table saw. Before chopping the pipe, rip it lengthwise in two passes using the saw's fence, cutting out one long gap strip. Then chop it into the desired lengths. Much, much quicker!

    If you have any extra 2" conduit, you can attach small sections/cylinders near the bottom of the tools which will fit to slide into and secure them slightly better. Even if the kids bumped or tried to get one out the bottom will make it more difficult.

    Nice design. I have all of my garden type tools stored in a large trash can, this looks promising.

    cool idea. I am quite the gardener, and have so many tools on handles hanging in my garage. I have some on angled dowels so I can have multiple on a slot, but I have been searching for a PERMANENT solution. Doubt I will find one as I have Stumpy Nubs' rearrangerits syndrom! But this makes me think. Thanks for the video!

    When your kid is talking to you, you can take care of giving knowledge to your viewers by telling the information to your kid. Yes, your kid will not understand but he will like that you are talking to him.

    to increase the storage space you could mount these to a 1x2 and then mount the 1x2 (or 2x4, or whatever is on hand) across the studs. this enables you to space the mounts according to the tool width rather than be limited to the stud width

    Hey Tyler;
    Just a thought. you could always use a scrap strip pf ply, or 1x4 and run it across the studs to make better use of space.

    looks great Tyler, cheap and quick, got some 2" central vac pipe I could up cycle. If you mounted a 2 X 4 horizontally across the studs you could hang more tools closer together.

      That 2x4 is exactly what I did in my shed. Tons of stuff packed all together and still really accessible and off the floor. I like the miter idea, especially for shovels that have that funny bend between the handle and the spade.

    • @DIYTyler
      @DIYTyler  8 років тому +1

      For sure, don't really need it yet though! If I do I can easily add the 2x4.

    i guess if you had heavier items to hang - you could get the next size down PVC pipe and do the same thing with it - just glue the smaller one into the larger one to make it thicker and less flimsy that way??? don't know - just had that idea :-) thanks for the video - did u use a 45 degree mitre cut for the pipe end??
