My favourite one is when she acts crazy and does the devil horns thing above her head and says she's the devil. Because it was a totally improvised moment and they kept it in lol

All the Office characters are iconic, but Melora Hardin was an absolute comedic genius with Jan. She was terrifying, smart, ruthless, pitiful, clever, psychotic. The dinner party episode is absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
Lets not forget her singing. Every single time she sung was terrifying lol.

The fact that she's not in a lot of scenes compared to many other characters but no one can forget her says a lot. i've never felt as uncomfortable but entertained watching something as watching that dinner scene.

11:14 the fact that Pam couldn't recognise Jan from her normal human photo of skydiving but recognised her immediately from that devilish caricature/portrait 💀💀💀
It was realisation in stages. In the skydiving photo Jan is wearing a helmet and a suit so Pam could think "she seems familiar/she kinda looks like Jan" but not realising she's her yet, then there's a photo of a baby and "Serenity by Jan" candles, at this point realisation comes to Pam, but she is kinda not certain, not sure yet, and then there's a Warhol-style quadriple portrait and then it hits her. It IS Jan.
Personally I love the moment right after this scene, when Jan doesn't simply enter the room, she just appears out of nowhere leaning against the doorframe. So sinister.
Jan is The Devil. That is clear in the awkward dinner party episode. Pam is playing audience surrogate as you also slowly realize who is the customer.
Pam saw the Andy Warhol at Michael's condo in the episode "Dinner Party."

At first, her walking in was scary because someone from corporate was walking in. Later on, it was scary becuase Jan was walking in.

Before being turned into a raging lunatic by the scriptwriters, Melora Hardin's Jan, with her flawless mannerisms and amazing voice, was the perfect corporate head honcho!

This really does bother me. I wish they would have left her character as a smart tough boss. But it’s a trope that happens over and over with strong women.

it was because Michael outed Oscar, the kissing scene didn’t come until much later in the episode when Michael was trying to prove how un-homophobic he is

So many people really hate Jan. I actually really like her. She may be batshit crazy, but I like how her chaotic energy plays into the show
Jan was a great character that sadly was kind of torn down and left by the wayside.
I think she was hilarious as Crazy Jan, but the writers could've pulled back a bit in her later appearances (a la Roy), because Jan had serious problems going on. They just made her mean, when she was originally just a bit stern (understandably so).
At 5:24, Michael looks like he's going to his execution.

No, that's a reflex response to a predator (hackles raising) when running away isn't an option. A powerful person who is well-regarded, primarily inspires respect (i.e. people improving their posture, fussing with their outfits etc. because they want to win your approval).
This is how people react when they want to make themselves look bigger in order to not get killed. It means that they regard you as a threat. So as soon as whatever makes you threatening diminishes, they'll go for your jugular to eliminate the danger you pose or regard you with contempt.
When you inspire respect, however, your vulnerability will be met with their compassion and desire to help (i.e. 'this is our chance to repay all the good you've done for us'). It is better to be loved than feared.
Love the movie mondays scene. Micheal is happy to see Jan and invites her over, while Jan is in complete disblief, trying to figure out how could a manager do something like that.

You could tell the signs that both Ryan and Jan would go off the rails at some point.
Jan - while listening to her emotions and giving in to Michael’s dumb but real feelings. As emotions stop being suppressed, bottled up for a while, they start a rebel
Ryan took pride in being cool and controlling the way he presents himself to the world, so lack of self-reflection combined with an opportunity for his ego to go rampant (drugs, power) did what it did to him

I love how in the beginning of the series Jan started out as a fairly normal seeming person to act as a corporate foil for Michael and everybody was uncomfortable of her showing up because it always meant bad news, but as the show went on she slowly became more and more insane and everybody was even more scared of her. 😄
