Dwight did a LOT as Michael's right-hand man, and was even on the brunt end of some of Michael's mean-spirited moments - dude got sprayed with a fire extinguisher on his first day. Luckily for Erin, she didn't have to see and experience that side of Michael's attitude and behavior.

I blame The Hangover. Andy’s character would have evolved organically like most of the others if not for the timing of Steve leaving/Ed Helms hitting it big in another role. (This is of course just my opinion, but I feel pretty strongly about it. Andy and Darrell playing of each other was a fun thing, I also feel if stuff like that had continued at its own pace Andy would have been a better character overall.)

The Office was the perfect tv show, Michael always wanted a family, and it is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time to see that his office family cared about him so much as well.
they have all of the best parts of michael and pam's relationship without any of the ickyness of michael being attracted to her. by far my favourite dynamic in the show, just two funny quirky people playing off of each other and having a good time

I have a friend I work with who loves The Office as much as I do, he’s probably tired of me saying of all the things that suffered or ended when Steve Carrell left, Michael and Erin’s relationship evolution was what hurt me the most. He was becoming a surrogate father/mentor to her, and actually nailing it. Just…seeing that made me happy, and I missed it when it was gone.
This is by far the thing I wish they focused on the most on later seasons before he left. Erin being an orphan was always kind of a recurring but passing comment here or there until the finale with her parents, but I really wished they brought more of her looking for a father figure in Michael. Like how extremely defensive she is of Holly because she thinks he's hurting Michael.
