You can do either / vice-versa.. as in.. Change the Keygroups to suit your MPC X's 'Pad-to-Note' allocations.. or, potentially.. you could even use a 'Keygroup' on the MPC X to just give you straight-chromatic notes. If you haven't seen the full Tonelab Tutorial for the S900/S950.. try looking up the Keygroup section in this clip 🙏🏻 ua-cam.com/video/wFdDES_mby4/v-deo.htmlsi=fVoOvtaAJRivBQ1u
@@tonelabqt thank you! I’ve created a program before on an MPC 60, where I assign pads to the midi notes as they align with key groups in the s950. In the s950 I have Keygroup 1 assigned to midi note C0 24, Keygroup 2 assigned to C0# 25, Keygroup 3 D0 25, etc. In the MPC X I from the Home Screen I have Midi Program set to Program Chan 1, MPC X Port 1. I’m not sure where to go from here.
Ahh.. yeah, it's a little different on these 'new gens'.. rather than use a Program, you can use a MIDI Track (from the Main Screen.. on your 'Track' panel... the MIDI icon). Once that's selected, you can press the 'Pencil' icon on the, lower, MIDI Program tab.. and hit 'Edit Pad Map'... then it's just a matter of setting your 'MIDI PORT', which is also found on the MIDI Program tab (bottom of Main Screen).. and then, configure your MPC X's 'Pad-to-Note' triggers.. as configured, in your 950 👍🏼
hi , thanks for this cool tricks ! i have a question , with an mpc(60 or 2000) it's possible to use multi level (volume ,or pitch) on the s950's samples ? thanks !
Yeah! ..that's pretty much how I set it up.. 16-Levels and then select 'Velocity'. You don't necessarily need to have the Filter Sensitivity on Page 10 cranked up to 99.. I just put it there as it provides the maximum 'Filter Range'. You could drop that down to 75 or 50 too, so experiment with that too 👍🏻
Do you think it would be possible to control the filter in S900 using qlink in MPC4000? As far as I remember you can assingne something like PAD CONTROL VOLUME to the knob. I'll check that later on. Really nice tip!
Unfortunately 'no', not specific to the 4000, it's just that there's no 'support', in terms of MIDI implementation in the 900 to harness the filter. But, if you put your MPC into '16-levels-mode' and choose 'velocity'.. you'll have 16 variations of velocity.. which is pretty much what I did in this clip 👍🏼
The filter in the S900 is aftertouch sensitive. Just assign some midi controller knob or wheel to aftertouch, and you can control the filter in realtime without retriggering. My pleasure ! Now send me money :)
Sounds intriguing! ..but, the only thing, I can see, where the 900 responds to AfterTouch is the 'LFO Depth'. So, which page are you referring to exactly?! I'd love to see this! 🤔👍🏼
@@tonelabqt there is a slight possibility that I have mixed up the S1000 and S900 on this. It's been over 20 years you know. Give it a try. I cannot. My studio isn' t up and running anymore ....

Man thank you! I've been using a 950 for years and never thought of this. And setting the pad velocities on the mpc is brilliant. Much appreciated 🙏
Yeah cheers! ..it's been right under our noses the whole time.. kinda gives it a new lease on life 👌🏻🙏🏻
Love these tips for the s900/950…it’s my main workhorse….my only actually…
This is gold
Cool looking device a real classic.
I just tried this. Very useful. TL U Da Man…🔥💯😎👍🏾
Thanks 🙏🏻...yeah, it kinda breathes new life into that great sounding filter 👌🏼
Thank you!
Thanks bro, as good as usual
Appreciate it, thanks! 🙏🏻
Wow! Great!! Cheers
If possible can you make a tutorial about the AKAI S3000XL?
Yeah of course! ..I've got one here, the only thing is, the screen is getting a little blurry.. so I've got to try source a new screen first 🙏🏻
I really look forward to this!
This is so dope. I’m going to try this. I’m trying to figure out how to assign midi notes on my Mpc X to control the key groups on my s950.
