They hire quality control, quality assurance, safety people but unfortunate in most cases… They are the ones that pay those people and run the operation. You CANNOT cook your own soup and taste it and say it’s good or bad…! Quality control, quality assurance, and safety. People have to be independent and have power, just like a medical doctor in the military.

Couldnt even imagine myself in that situation. Middle of the night, middle of the ocean, engulfed in flames, explosions all around, and you have to jump 10 stories into the darkness below.. Then you get to relive it over and over in your head. No amount of monetary compensation can make up for that.

CEOs, lobbyists, and the higher up will tell you all their work is perfectly safe, for humans and the environment. The actual people who work on the rigs can show you missing fingers, legs, and eyes, and then tell you about the friends they've lost on the job due to the negligence of the higher ups. The lies we have been told over the decades are catching up to us all. If you believe the petro industry is safe, I've got a nice beach side property in Louisiana to sell you, cheap.

Wrong !!! The oil industry’s safety record is 10X better than the airline industry (similar accident disaster industry). Relative to the billions of barrels of petroleum produced over the decades, both the number spills AND the quantities of spilled oil would likely be less than 1.0% worldwide.

All these environmental problems don't just go away because everyone runs away and says fk it. All of their assets and bank accounts should be frozen to ensure reparations for future damages also. Behind every great act of humanity there is usually some sinister deed.

I was out there within an hour after she blew, thankfully the Daymond Bankston, their vessel, was there when it happened and was able to pick up all the survivors. I spent 45 years on vessels in the oil fields, and this kind of stuff was a common occurrence, to take a chance and bypass safety. And that professor is absolutely correct when he said the one whose fault is BP, the paying customer, is always at fault! They are the ones who twist the arm of the contractors. And in the Taylor spill, 3 gallons a day, the oil companies ALWAYS give the Coast Guard a lesser amount than what was actually spilled. Chevron was the biggest fibber of the amount of a spill. But I always told them the truth. I got into a bunch of trouble for calling the Coast Guard on a large spill Exxon had and was using dispersant. They never called it in, trying to hide it, you can't hide a spill like that, just get it away from your platforms and hopefully when a helicopter reports the spill they can't figure out who had the spill. To this day I refuse to use Chevron products from being bullied constantly to go against regulations and safety. Durrel Pelligran with Chevron terminated me because I refused to haul chemicals my vessel was not allowed to haul, I told him I needed to get the boat certified to haul certain things and other things I could not haul due to regulations. He didn't like that, so he had me terminated.

I was sailing on a west coast tanker for chevron at that time. Gregory Cousins, 3rd Mate on watch when the crash happened had 1 thing to do on his watch TO CHANGE COURSE and that was not done. The Captain told him he had to make the turn shortly and asked if he understood. The Captain must transmit a departure message when the ship leaves port so that is where the Captain went when he left the 3rd mate. The look out yelled into the bridge that they had a red buoy on their starboard bow while leaving port. This should have an unbelievable event because it means your going on the wrong side of the bouy. She reported it again and this time the 3rd mate told the helmsman put your rudder over to starboard so he did but the helm was on autopilot so its did very little. By the time they realized the ship was about to hit the reef, the order was given hard right rudder. The 3rd mate picked up the phone to tell the captain something was wrong. The captain answered the phone and a loud crash was heard throughout the ship.
