Anglo-saxons with there never ending propaganda. First with Iraq, now that they didn't find any of Sadaams weapons, they are trying to justify their war by depicting draining a swamp as an intentional plot to destroy rather than use the water for irrigation. Yet the U.S.A and Australia themselves have been draining marshlands for years to make room for agriculture. Secondly, the Vatican doesn't contain the history of the world, just Roman history, we have Chinese, Russian, Indian histories which they never give equal reverence. I am not even going to mention the historical records they destroyed in Egypt, Mexico and Africa at large. No one outside Europe cares about Vatican propaganda records
No that frozen mountain god put there to cool the earth belongs to humanity and everything ! every animal that is going extinct! And every fish in the ocean !
@@austinmartinez2312 for sure! We as humans have destroyed everything beautiful! We really suck!! When my son was very little I took him on a boat ride.. - during the ride we happened to see a baby duckling dead in the water. I noticed there was something hanging out of the duck's mouth. My son noticed the durk so I lied and told him the duck was sleeping. As we made our way down the stream there was a condom that had teeth marks in it that's when I realized there was a condom hanging out of the dead Duck's mouth.. yup dead from gagging on a used condom...
What a lovely story the Iraqi marshlands was. Goes to show you, the American Dream doesn't necessarily fulfill your heart. Thanks for bringing back these quiet stories.
I read about the Marsh Arabs years ago, and what Hussein did to them. I’m glad to hear they are reclaiming their culture and land. Nice reporting. Thanks.
A beautiful world. Watching them glide down the canals through the tall reeds was so lovely. Reminds me a bit of my wanderings through the marshes of my birthplace on the coast of North Carolina. Things of beauty that bind us together as watchful humans are, as he says, more important in many ways than chasing the often elusive and harrowing latter-day 'American Dream', particularly if reaching the dream leaves you feeling somewhat empty, after all. Thanks for making this.
Absolutely mesmerizing! The depth of research and the personal narratives combined with stunning visuals make this episode a masterpiece. From the devastating impact of Saddam's actions to the emotional return of the marshes and the brave work of engineers and locals, this episode captures it all beautifully. The cinematography and editing are top-notch, making it a must-watch for anyone interested in history, engineering, and environmental recovery
48:07 "Wohhhhhhhhh. Oh, my god! That was pretty intense, men!" One of the best clips 60M ever had. I remember I saw this video back in time and my heart was pounding! And even now, I still have same thrilling sensation of conquered spirit which I never done myself. This is real 60 minutes. And this was the '60 minutes' that I want to see in the future! Thanks for the reruns.
One thing I've noticed about pretty much all the Iraqis I've ever met is that they're somehow extremely world-weary and incredibly optimistic at the same time. Most of them have seen war and destruction and death in their homeland for as long as they've been alive, yet they have the perspective that comes from living in a place that's so old that it's the literal cradle of civilization. Like this gentleman said "So? The war isn't going to last forever". It's pretty amazing.
“If you are going to dream, dream big, it’s free!” What a beautiful outlook on life that man has. He is a beautiful soul. As far as the Vatican library goes, I’m a bibliophile, and it sends a shudder down my spine to see those historic books and manuscripts being handled with bare hands, exposing the pages to the oils of the skin, which, can stain and damage ancient texts.
2:14... "money and success is not everything.... the passion and something that drives you is Everything" ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ It is true to the core and so many greedy people are blind by their arrogance, its almost impossible to convince them of hope for themselves and their future.

It was funny seeing that satellite dish with the marsh people but it’s nice to know that people who want to live without all modern convenience still can!!
All Wash's father was named Car Wash. His grandfather was named Hog Wash. The Wash Dynasty began with a man named Wash, who discovered Water and was the first Marsh Harab to wash himself.
This must be what I saw people doing off of Mount Rainier last June!I caught a glimpse of at least one what I thought was some kind of insane base jumper, followed by his buddies skiing down Rainier. I was able to catch a brief video of the parachute portion as it was descending-completely airborne.I had just put my phone away after taking some great pictures of Mount St.Hellens,Mount Adams, and Mount Hood.I ran in to a father and son who were out looking for some rarely seen bird species. The son spotted the daredevils and I only got a brief glimpse of two different people airborne under some type of parafoils. If anyone knows who these people were, let me know.I would love to see their video footage! We were standing on Paradise Point in early June last year. It was almost equally as amazing as the natural beauty. Nothing human made can compete with the natural splendor of the Pacific Northwest. But seeing these people (and those in this video)is definitely one of the most amazing things I have seen people do.
im glad he got the last laugh, and was able to display his last laugh against saddam hussein, Better yet for the people who depend on the ancient Euphrates & Tigress. Best part all the while did it and showed it on 60 MINUTES US. Respect💯
It was only flying over Iraq and the surrounding countries on my way from India to London that I saw how much more there is to the land than the desert we are used to seeing. It took me a while to work out where heck I was, confused by unexpected landscapes.
Thank you for the video! I only have one question, Why has everyone been touching the pages of these old artifacts of books with their hands which holds oils in their fingertips that can do damage to the paper of the books?
Does acquiring those samples that core through hundreds of feet of ice create a bigger problem ie. friction as the water rushes to the surface creating more fissures in the ice and more areas of weakness in the ice scape?
So interesting. I love these documentaries. On a side note, wanted to make a comment to show my support for Karen Read and the insane police corruption in Massachusetts. We the public should no longer stand for police corruption because it could be any one of us that they try to railroad. FBI investigation into police corruption ongoing in Canton Massachusetts and officer John O'Keefe deserved better may his Killers be brought to justice, Brian and Colin Albert and the McCabes for helping cover it up
Oh my gosh! How fantastic! The Mufti people and their home is so interesting! I love their architecture, their way of life. I can’t imagine someone wanting to exterminate these people and their way of life!
In the beginning of this video, The buffalos are gaurs, are they? @14:05, the dogs are Greenland or Eskimo dogs, not huskies. Huskies originated from Siberia. Eskimo dogs are native to Greenland. At least, they were separated many thousand years ago.
The Mosul Dam (Arabic: سد الموصل), formerly known as the Saddam Dam (سد سدام), is the largest dam in Iraq. It is located on the Tigris River in the western province of Nineveh, upstream from the city of Mosul. The dam serves to produce hydroelectric power and provides water for downstream irrigation. At full capacity, the structure holds about 11.1 cubic kilometers (2.7 cu mi) of water and supplies electricity to Mosul's 1.7 million residents.
Thank you! Another point of view is also necessary. This man seems like he is very good at making a profit and swaying public opinion. Oil has been discovered here tells me all I need to know.

This is some real, old school journalism. Love it.
It's not 'real old school journalism". It's real journalism.
