  • The correct Spey Reel must not only be the corrent size to accommodate the larger fly lines we use when Spey fishing, it must also be the correct weight to properly balance with your longer Spey rod. Leland's British Columbia Vintage Steelhead reel is not only the correct size and weight, it's also cosmetically correct to match up with your favorite two-handed fly rod. Nice . Another reel to consider is a Peux Fulgor semi automatic. Thanks for sharing

It's a shame Leland as was shown in these videos is no longer. The Ranch was a cutting edge concept but sadly the residents in the area got their panties in a wad and shut it down. Burke hasn't been with Leland for a few years now - for me, his no nonsense approach to fly fishing is sorely missed. I wish he would come back and bring some common sense back to fly fishing instead of all the marketing hype that permeates social media - I own 4 of their reels (3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 Classic Reels along with the Diesel Migration 6Nine Sealed Drag Reel) and 2 of their rods (The Sonoma 5 wt and Sonoma 6 weight Summer Steelhead Spey rod) and they are the best bang for the buck out there.

But you guys have some neat stuff ofcourse.
It is a pity that the tackle is not available in our shitty Europe. Or you have to pay customs shipping and so on. And ofcourse we dó have all the other great brands. Hardy,Sage,Scott,Loop etc etc

No no not a large arbour. I say no ney never, no never no more. We need sideplate-reels who can really swallow a lot of backing. Please !!! I miss hardy zenith reel..

Wouldn't you want a large arbor reel?

typically yes, but not for spey. Spey/skagit/scandi lines are HUGE. Especially skagit. And especially for high wt rods. For example, I have a 14' 9wt for salt. I had a 9 wt reel lying around that I figured would fit. As predicted, I couldn't even line the last 1/4 of skagit (where the meat is) with prescribed running line attached. I had to take the running line off to get the fly line to fit, which I wasn't going to stand for. Had to buy a 11/12 wt reel to get everything situated like I wanted. Other option was to get a smaller arbor 9wt reel, but then again manufacturers usually make thinner channels for those, so the larger reel was a better idea.
And what he said about weight is correct, you can either buy a reel about 2 wts larger, or use a small arbor and load it up with 2 spools of backing.
