Yet another clear reminder that the wrong “artists” are out there becoming millionaires, although I’m sure Tal and hundreds of other pure, honest, talented musicians couldn’t care less about becoming shiny superstars. But imagine if all those award shows were full of performances like this instead of a bunch of Max Martin products bouncing around to tracks. Sigh. Old dude rant over 😞
This old dude says right on brother!
I agree, all that bouncing around stuff is the reason I stopped watching the Grammy's et al. I could blame a long list but it is really a large chunk of humanity that lost itself in general.
You are right rob ... and thank you for being such a beautiful instructor ... you have helped my drumming a lot. really a heart felt thanks. I am from India, i cant afford best drum kits and cymbals, also i lack proper funding for taking drums classes from a teacher like you. you , with your channel is helping me and many others like me out there. thanks a lot again :) ...
Rob Brown Didn't expect to see you here! Love your videos!
The great Rob Brown has spoken. As a huge fan of "music that should be heard and experienced in spite of McRadio and Burger Stream," I agree 100%.
Saving this as 'Best video on the internet'. Seriously this is so amazing. Thanks to all the musicians for giving us this.
That guitarist is incredible. Jolly good show.
GreetTheSacredCow His old band Purple Melon was really good too.
GreetTheSacredCow Owen Barry.
Wow this is some of the most original sounding music I’ve heard in a long time. I will buy all of her music. She played with Jeff Beck. Amazing bass player and songwriter. Hope to see her live some day.
Wow! I knew Tal was a monster on bass when I heard her with Jeff Beck, but what a haunting voice and unique songwriting.
Beautiful.
"Haunting" you summed it up like a champ !
Absolutely!!!
Not to mention the other musoes
indeed
Iam 67yrs, and I like it!
At age 50 I am approaching a phase in life where I catch myself not liking a lot of new music but this stuff is awesome! Been watching Tal's work for a while: this is opening a whole new world for her and her fans !!!
I turned 49 in April and I couldn’t agree more. 👍🎸👌🤘
You can also tell that she was raised properly. She’s down to earth and not full of herself. Not in any of the interviews, I've listened to? She has doesn't have that whole Rock Star fake personality. Let's hope she stays this way.
At age 73 i must agree ! Love this Tal!
I'm in my 50s and my thoughts exactly. Kinda changed my perspective in that respect. What a lovely musical experience.
You dont like a lot of new music youre exposed to*
Theres lots of great music, its just not on the radio or TV
great vibe and feel and arrangement.
A real composer, a true musician, not like all that shit on the music charts. We must support this kind of artists.
Thank you for your amazing music, Tal.
Can't say I love these songs, but totally respect her bass playing which is unbelievable. Glad that real musicians are still getting together to make real music. Seeing what's "popular" these days is just too depressing.
Joni like honesty.
You can support this "Woke" crap but don't expect me to do it also !
@@normanterrault397 I can't see how this is "woke", but anyway, we are free to support what we think it's worth it ;)
I love good music but the problem is airplay and distribution. This sort of music got zero air play. Yeah they pushed it a bit in 2019 with this album. Me personally, I'd listen to it like hell back in 2019 but did not realize this album until Beck died. And after listening to Jeff with Tal Live recordings I started to see her solo stuff. In short, its really hard to get exposure now. Record companies push the crap they want and real music is left out. Nobody buys physical media and artists make pennies on streaming services. We may never get another album from Tal. But I hope I'm wrong.
I very much liked Tal as an instrumentalist. I still do, but I simply love her as a songwriter and singer !
I am captivated by her voice.. Love the way she sings.. Loved her bass playing the first time I saw her with Beck.. I never knew she sang until today. And as she surrounds herself with quality musicians too..Wonderful.. And she carries herself with class and fun..
Couldn't agree more
Well who Are these musicians?
You ever think that by lowering your standards all these years could contribute to such bad judgment on your part ?
@@normanterrault397 piss up a rope
@@normanterrault397 Thought never crossed my mind. And not sure who made you judge of what is good judgment. Not seeing any indication on your page..
I'm in love. Really dig her vibe.
Musicians are the best thing on earth when you hear it. I can live today. Thank you
Tal Wilkenfeld is an incredible musician. My gosh, capoing the electric bass and playing it like a guitar without playing like a guitarist! True dopeness!!! She can groove too, just amazing.
Y esperanza Spalding??????
The drugs you are on right now are really doing you a big favour ! My advice would be to continue.
I LOVE ACTUAL music artistry - with LIVE musicians who can ACTUALLY PLAY instruments - and write THEIR OWN songs.
It's getting rare more and more . . .
Wow this is good.
What a uniquely musical, sophisticated, melancholy soul.
@@steveskrobot5992 her original music has a bittersweet component to it.
When I first listened to this album, it was very fresh to my ears. As a bass player myself and a appreciator of music in general, I can often predict where a song is going especially popular music and it bores me to death when you know what is coming. I’m still listening to this album and all the lush textures make my ears perk up. Not to say these songs are missing a hook, but they beg for another listen just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I love this album and I want more.
Great use of instrumentation ... loved the entry points of the stings. Beautifully different
Wonderful. Awesome restraint on the bass parts, well orchestrated songs, and unique melodies. Would have been so easy for her to put out a fusion shred fest, she went a different way that won’t be for everyone. Love it!
Ultra restrained bass. She plays what the song needs and doesn't show herself as a maniacal nimble fingered speed demon. Which I'm certain she is capable of.
Exactly. It’s so wonderful to hear a song with perfect bass parts. Just exactly what it needs
I know what you mean...The song is kind of a one off wonder..Really good stuff but i had to let it sink in and then really listened to it..Good stuff...
@@caprise-music6722she's playing a lot , Some of it didn't make it to the track, irritating.
Brilliant! I mean, I knew Tal was very talented when I saw her play bass with Jeff Beck, but this is so much more than I expected! Great songwriter, beautiful singer! She is the real deal!
fantastic woman of the decade..... and will be ..... more in our lifetime. .... the lovely artist.
How novel, something unique and beautiful. The Billboard charts miss these qualities entirely.
A sound , melody, arrangement, progression, & sonic value No one has heard before....That I can think of.... = ART...
122Music1 i like it how you summed that up. I totally agree.
ur great conclusion.
I knew of Tal Wilkenfeld as a great bassist (with Jeff Beck), and I was bit taken aback when I heard she had branched out into “singer-songwriting”. “Stick to bass!” I thought. Turns out she’s a also brilliant lyricist, a good singer, and a refreshingly different sort of of songwriter in general. I would not have predicted this. Very nice!
So some how the bands Alice and Chains and Steely Dan had a child...Thank you universe.
"I wanna be held but not beholden" - INSTANT thumbs up! lol
Magical music...
She's darn good. First time I saw her she was playing with Jeff Beck. Her joy k ocked me away. Surprised to see that Harmony bass, haven't seen one since playing one 1965, 1966, until could afford Gibson.
I’ve heard Tal lots of time playing with Jeff Beck and thought she was a great bass player. This is the first time I’ve heard her sing, wow! What a great voice.👍👍
It puts me somewhere between Robin Trower and A Perfect Circle.
i do subsribe to that point of vew
Thank you Tal for being you. I wish there were more like you on the planet. Love you!
PEACE 😘🎸
I love her voice. From prodigy bass player to star in her own right.
Thanks, Bill Burr :)
Bill, that stupid fiuck. Kept with the interrupting.I had to see her without a digression to Bill hashing/rehashing his hit. She was generous by extending the concept of "artistry" to what comedians' do. Next level stuff right here.
This is perfectionn.
I'm not a fan of her music but god dammit Bill... F is For Family is amazing!
PARECE ESTILO GÓTICO.... MUITO BOM!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Her voice is a bit similar to Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak. That's a VERY good thing. I had no idea that voice was lurking inside her.
Haunted Love: hands down my favourite base melody since Jaco invented *Amelia with Joni.
What a radiant talent! I feel elevated.
Hope you don't mean Joni Mitchell be an insult she is nowhere near Joni fix the ear listen to Joni song call help me then tell me what you hear
@@edwinmartinez9787 ive been a joni fan for 40 years and i agree with him. I'm watching this space with my heart in my mouth.
Ear need a tune up great bass player no doubt Joni Mitchell voice was heaven not Tal not even close.
:)
Did Jaco ever play Amelia with Joni Mitchell? I´d love to hear that
Tal Wilkenfeld debería pronunciarse sobre el genocidio que hace Israel sobre los Palestinos
I love how they leave in the false start and all the banter. Makes it very real.
That’s our life. Lots of banter. Lots of equipment foibles. The public usually only sees the edited versions of everything. There’s so much going on behind the scenes.
Jaco would be proud !!!!!!!
"See, that's why I have Owen!" "He even has an english accent!"
Too funny - a bassplayer mocking a guitarplayer!
Excellent performance, commited, but still relaxed and self-assured.
I hadn't heard Tal since her excellent gig with Jeff Beck. I didn't realise the breadth of her talent. And she SINGS! (And she's Australian)
@Beard Guy101 Yeah, but her singing in her last song was very nice. I think she may develop and grow in her singing.
@Beard Guy101 Just found this: ua-cam.com/video/x4_yWGsx034/v-deo.html
but imo....her surname looks like German ... ??? ....her real root ??? ..am I wrong ??
@@twasbrilligandthesli she sings with a certain souls on his own. I like her way with not too much teaching and develope, I mean I prefer if she not sings like others
Goosebumps! As a musician, it brings me to the place and reason why I originally was attracted by music, not to be conditioned by dogmas or rules, just free to explore, to go musically wherever you want. I will definitely listen to this artist again. There is a real true profound thing coming across, thank you for this beautiful inspiration.
Tal is an amazing musician, such a high level demonstrated here.
This is absolutely extraordinary. These songs are beautiful, sweet, exquisite. Her voice is dazzling. Her talent and good taste to play the bass does not stop surprising us. The passage at 15:28 gave me goosebumps.
its a girl
@@brianralph5036 I know that. English is not my native language. I corrected my mistake
Is she using microtonal pitch in her singing? It's really, really haunting - sort of goes from soft to harsh, and then back to soft. Fantastic control and expression. Amazing vocalist AND I'm geeking out over her bass playing too.
I cannot detect any vocal mistake, having listend to the whole set. The chords and the chord progressions are supposedly unusual to the listener of contemporary pop music and so are the vocal lines Tal delivers. So her music has kind of a novelty quality to it. It's simply another framework than fast food music is able to deliver. Were it about mathematics, I would say she exceeds the number range beyond ten for her calculations in contrast to pop music.
totally agree.. she delivers something naturally beautiful, surprising and uncommon . where lots of emotions combines even if they are usually apart in the mind.. ( if you know what i mean). :) so special!
Great music, but I found the bass irritatingly low in the mix...
Tal is a Goddess, beautiful, incredibly talented and truly brilliant. Her voice is mesmerizing.
The second one.. difficult to explain, but I can feel a long time lost poetry in the music, something recalling the best "progressive" music of the seventies.. She is growing as a full-featured musician with time, not only the extraordinary bass player we already knew
Yes, there was something special on that one...
love ur opinion.
Why does Ed Sheeran have more album sales?
Why? Tal is just pure talent.
She'll get there. I wish her a long, interesting and fulfilling career on her own terms. If she gets HUGE fame (which she deserves) I hope it's at a point in her career when she's equipped to enjoy it because the last thing I want is for her talent to be used up and spat out by the music/fame industry.
Ed Sheeran is pretty f-ing talented pop musician. Apples and oranges.
of course!@@DanBlake3rd
She is just growing and getting better and better, and it is amazing to witness that. An amazing all around musician with a golden voice, and of course mad bass skillz.
Tal is an accomplished composer and songwriter, on top of her world class bass playing. She's somewhere in another unheard paradise right now, but once more people wakes up to her music, the world is a better place.
For the love of music.
Damn, Tal, can't you do anything wrong? I follow you since your first videos, through Transformation, your contribution for several better known artists, your solo songs, your new album, and I say "bless you", for you kinda restore my somewhat lost faith in mankind. I was a bit afraid when you picked up the guitar and appeared surrounded by what seemed to me a group of Greenwich Village intelectuals, but I see now that you handled it perfectly and it seems to me you know exactly what you want and how to get there. I will try to help by buying your art and listening to it and showing it to my friends. Thank you for your music.
Beautiful songwriting IMO. Tal and Esperanza should colaborate😉.
she is just getting started.so good to see and hear more of Tal.
The first song gave me a nineties grunge feeling. Like Alice in chains and nirvana grew up and became more refined and matured. Why is this not mainstream Music! Amazing set of all musicians.
Lovely set,just beautiful ensemble.
The gathering together is such a richness.
When she started singing hounted love it just turned into something special straight away
I prefer "Hunted Love".
Tal sometimes reminds me of Fiona Apple. Of course they are different artist, but the vibe feels similar and it's great.
Derek Dauchan That would be an incredible collaboration. I think they would gel well.
She really has carved out a great sound.
Her bass solo on “Haunted Love” reminds me of Pat Metheny. Tal is a guitarist, too.
every thing is possible on bass even some tapping dude bass electric bass is a relativly young instrument but i confess that she pretty good at playing it i do love her style as you do
Ur so...... true. ... actually she can play guitar...... at high level..... performance. ... she is amazing girl....really .
Eerily beautiful, it's almost as though she's tapping into the abstract song structure of Jack Bruce's songs for a Tailor, wonderful!
Funny you should say that-- she reminds me of Jack Bruce as well. It'll be fascinating watch her songwriting develop.
She was one of the best bassists ever. Now she sings I found her boring.
Wow! What a great interview and performance!
Tal is one of my favourite bass players :) new album is preordered.
I don't know of another artist who started as such a super-musicky instrumentalist who can write such good, simple vocal melodies and make it sound so natural. Maybe Meshell Ndegeocello, but she had a foot in both camps from the start.
Boy, I'd love to see Tal and Susan Tedeschi on the same stage!
Hey that might be good!
Shades of Alanis Morissette in Tals voice and in those chord changes on "Killing Me".
The tempo, the chord changes, the lyrics, like intricate little brush strokes with the longing lilt in her voice and, maybe most of all, that rather unique softly jarring and at the same time soothing acoustic guitar intro which continues throughout the song on "Pieces of Me" all astound me. All those elements weaving together are like a picture being painted before my ears that I see coming to life in my minds eye. I'm simply amazed by this piece. Simply amazed! Wow!
she sounds nothing like alanis morissette
No u dont sound like alanis morisette /s @@curragh4635
Great Music and Owen Barry is a Keeper...Great band!!
Bass Clef TalkBass and #music is best, thank you kindly Tal Wilkenfeld and others in Manhattan. 1st song has a magnetic impression with blended resonating force. #Calson Associates circa 1920 🐬
All three songs have such an aching quality to them. Great arrangements and band, plus to since to see someone with mad chops not just showing off but using skills to support the song.
Stick with Bass
Vocals don't make it. 🙄
Wow. Every year that passes since I first saw this gifted young musician is like getting a surprise gift in the mail. Aside from her other talents, I listen to her apparent natural born gift of playing the bass guitar. I think her bass playing is what sort of got her through the door into her very large musical World. Maybe.....
as a musician i can surely relate to the last song.It brought tears to my eyes and my heart hurt . Thank you TAL
I'm going to be 55 this year and I love when I find absolute astonishing music and musicians who bring something new to the table, I first saw her playing with Jeff Beck, new fan forever ♥️thanks UA-cam for helping me find her music
What can i say! just absolutely beautiful music! Super Talented!
ur opinion is so .......right ! ...she is the veryyy........fantastic.
Tal is the best i have heard in many years. Wow!!
Really great presentation. Way inspiring and love how you all come together on these pieces. Didn't know Tal sang... Great surprise and can't wait to hear the entire album. Very contemplative and beautifully done. Oh - nice cabin guys! Beautiful studio. from Utah.
I couldn't care less if I had Tal to hear on bass and singing. Last time I knew I had found something new and this time I am surprised again!
TAL has transcended all Genres.. she and her bandmates are the Nec Plus Ultra
agreed, this session makes me aware. 🐬tyk
Outstanding all. Just a total pleasure listening to Tal play and talk.
🙃🙃🙃
EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!! At the end of the first number I almost stood up and applauded, but She Who Must Be Obeyed has enough suspicions about my sanity!
The low spark of Tal any traffic fans out there in 2019? Love the serial killer remark to funny.
She's definitely a Cutie Pie though
Here is REAL talent. This live performance/interview is just wonderful.
AND she's worked with former Yes member Trevor Rabin...a Rock Hall of Famer.
That was absolutely lovely, what a great voice you've developed! Those strings add so much atmosphere! Having said that, I could listen to you playing that Sadowsky all day, what a great sound!
I could also listen to her sing all day!!!!!!!!!!! Sucha great voice
Was just going to ask who made the blue bass ;) thanks
59y.o. Been watching Tal since live at ronnie scotts w Jeff Beck and proud she made it. And the music industry- well you know.
Her music is like poetry 🌹
She is a really good bass player.
Just downloaded her last album because of this! So dope!
Great to enter a new age of singer, song writers. They combine word and instruments so much better. Something new and fresh. Tks, go Tal.....
Muito talentosa canta com a almar
Haunted Love....ahhhh i love u Tal..
She's got a REALLY dry sense of humor - love it!
I noticed that right away as well. So dry, so great :D
Thats the Aussie part of her :) au. Peace and Love.
Yes true. Very spiritual too
I'm 62, and Tal Wilkenfeld is my best bassist! And I own a copy of "Love Remains"!
Wow! I played with a band late 60's and early 70's so I guess you could call me old school. However, IMHO this album from Tal is some of the best creative musical and lyrical craftswomanship I've heard in a very long time. So refreshing! Thank you Tal! Hope to hear a lot from you in the future.
Tal is literally the first musician of which I've considered purchasing music in decades. Reminds me of Aimee Mann. I specifically love her bass skills and her song writing.
To those that were pushing back to others comparing Tal’s voice to Joni Michell: Joni’s “crown” is not being taken by comparing someone to her. I’m 62 years old and literally a lifelong fan of multiple genres of music. Joni Mitchell was a young phenom and continued to grow and write & make amazing music. No one can or will change that remarkable legacy. But it’s strange to think that only she can have any praise, or that someone cannot have the audacity to compare a newer artist to Joni. It’s a complement. And for us today to fixate on an any artist from say 1970 is unfair, too. That’s like a person from 1970 saying “No one compares to the artistry of Joe Musician from 1916!” It sounds comical to our ears now, but that is the same length of time away from some of the fantastic work that Joni did as we are from it today - 54 years. It’s only fair that we allow newer artists to explore their own paths. Some of it we may love, some of it may not be our cup of tea. Just as Joni Mitchell and any other artist from the “golden” era. Let Joni have her rightful due, the same as Tal.
I get lots of Jeff Buckley vibes from Tal
Hey, that''s some great sounding live performance. Sonics are superb. Tal's a gem of great worth. So glad she's putting her talent to her song craft. I't's really fine stuff, layered, dense to etherial. Bravo.
