- Thanks for all the recent love on this, everyone.
Decided to play the Shelter vinyl back at 33 RPM instead of the normal 45... sounds very cool imo!
Video was taken on my cell, but audio was a direct line form the turntable to my laptop.
There's a small skip at 2:20 that slipped past me while I was recording, sorry about that
this is what all of those "slowed and reverbed to perfection" videos are trying to do
as much as i think digital is the way, there is just something about disks and physical vinyls that sounds different.
@@Dachi40 you get an analog sound, purely electrical signal, no ADC or DAC used in the process if i'm not mistaken, it's the closest you can get to the studio sound, it's much warmer and sounds really nice
The sampling frequency and replay bitrate has become so high that there is no longer any audible difference between analog and digital. But there is something neat about knowing something is analog. It's not any warmer though.@@lucasdimond5968
@@lucasdimond5968 especially in the case of modern music it all started as digital in the first place so its not really any closer to the way it sounded in the studio. Tho while digital is technically superior in any way in terms of bit / sample rates and minimum / maximum frequencies and all that, vinyls can come pretty close and in some case sound better due to the vinyl master being way less overcompressed and squished. (dang you stupid loudness wars)
Nothing beats the whole experience of it tho and having it physically in your hand having the actual music etched in and being there is just magical and thats not even mentioning all the crazy artwork and coloring options
@@lucasdimond5968 Indeed, the irreplaceable "analog warmth".
For those wondering:
76bpm, G half-sharp
Thank you for the tempo
pog
half sharp xD
i can hear Madeon’s voice
Ikr def sang by porter :)
@@ZHENG_Music uh, what?
confusion at its e
Pretty sure the lead vocals are all Madeon, although I suspect Porter may have done some backing in the chorus. This would actually be even further from Madeon's natural chest voice than the original though, as I'm pretty sure he tends to adjust the formant down, not up
@@iamvancore ye most of his tracks are like this. Especially no fear no more.
This gives me a dreamlike feeling. Like a song you've heard so many times that you know exactly how it goes, yet somehow it sounds different
Wow I want to collect vinyl now...
I didn't realize that analog music could do something like this. It's different than if you slowed it down digitally, since no data is expunged or stretched. Its just the song but slower. Never noticed that until now.
And what a beautiful song to try it on.
That only happens on low quality MP3 files. FLAC or other loseless music formats can be slowed down perfectly.
@@Bakashi I didn't know that, but makes sense.
I'll try it out some time!
In addition to the previous reply, vinyl can lose quality over time as you play it due to normal wear and tear, while a lossless format like FLAC or WAV will never lose quality and will remain in perfect quality. This loss of quality is sometimes what people like in the sound though, like with analog synths. It just depends on personal preference.
@@Bakashi more importantly the higher quality audio formats would also usually have higher sample rates, which is what you need to slow it down well (same way a video shot at 200fps can be slowed down nicely to like 60fps)
This is so cool. You can hear so many details that you can’t at full speed.
I thought I had commented and I was so confused because I'd never seen this video before in my life
love the nick robinson pfp
@@bubbly6379I thought you two were the same person and was so confused too.
They’re brothers iirc porter and nick
It sounds so different. Almost like a happy end to a movie, but this one gives me a more nostalgic vibe. Nice work!
i just learned this vinyl exist and i am very, very sad you cant get it anymore
some artists release vinyls for fans
the vocals reminded me of good faith
this makes me want to lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling while thinking about life
Damn the Arp Fill at 4:00 feels so good
I was about to say. I've probably listened to Shelter 100,000 times and that arp at this tempo gives me chills. I've got Worlds, Adventure and Good Faith on vinyl but really need this!!
@@jordonpollock1550so lucky ! Id probably say World is my favorite music album to this day
@@RogueBeatsARG I found it in the most unlikely way.. shopping on Taobao (Chinese auction site). The sleeve was a bit damaged but the disks are perfect.. that album got me through so much shit in my teenage years. I'm split between all 4 Porteon albums, honestly soundtrack to my life fr
It’s such a nice vibe! the original song is in C Major but since it’s been slowed down it’s been brought down to G major and wow it feels more melancholic than the original song despite the original song already being kind of sad
I heard this at school on the recommended and thank god i found it again i love this so much
This is like, natural "slowed" music.. Mann idk if others have done it too but if you're the first to post a song slowed down using turntable, it's an awesome concept, much more aesthetic and the type of "slowed" songs content that I can actually watch..
this is like slowed and reverbed but better
bro they turned slowed and reverbed into a real thing
slowed to perfection :)
so calming
This video should have way more views, this is beautiful❤️
This give a feeling of nostalgia and I love it!
2:19 Skip ☹
oof
something i regret tbh. shouldve just re-recorded when i heard it in post😣
@@TemporalCollage it kinda adds to it haha, i think some skips are nice and sometimes they arent
A e s t h e t i c
I feel goosebumps
Woahh
_V A P O R_
This is amazing
I love these
turned it into melodic dubstep 🔥
1.3 speed puts it at correct tempo but still flat in key
reverse nightcore
i think a lot people refer to slowed down songs as "daycore" which is a pretty apt description lol
Love the microtonal vibe
Unless you have perfect pitch, I dont know how you can tell that its microtonal...
@@mateerdei8069 I was just trying to play along with it on the piano and its in between G and G sharp. It also has a certain vibe to it it’s hard to explain
not microtonal, the intervals are still normal, it's just a different tuning from A=440hz
@@JoanGonzalezTrolloCat its transposed to g half sharp, which doesnt fit 12 TET therefore it is microtonal
@@b2n136 pitch shift doesnt change intervals, you are right, but it does change the frequency of the notes. Unless you transpose it so the notes fit perfectly in accordance to 12 TET frequencies, it is microtonal. In this case, its in G half sharp which is a scale that doesnt exist in 12 TET. Hope this helps
What type of record player is that?
Robbie Rotten to tell you the truth I forget haha, it's at my parents place right now. I know it's a simple turntable usb one though, I got it for Christmas years ago.
1.25x speed for normal one
analog "slowed and reverbed"
It sounds like a Pogo song
Synthwave?
Idk what you mean but this is shelter by porter Robinson and madeon
