Steven is wise, but he never went to school. His “what? no signal?” at 8:10 implies he thinks cell phones use satellites for communication, which is a common misconception. Cell phones generally only use satellites for GPS positioning, everything else is via radio towers.
Steven fusing with Amethyst is easily one of the best moments of the show. I love that it just happens with no mention of fusion before, and it feels so earned after this arc. I lose it crying every time
I feel bad for Jasper when it comes to fusion, she initially looked down on fusion and saw it just as a tactic to become stronger get but she still respected the rules, when she fused with Lapis she asked for consent and Lapis gave it, Lapis then turned around and trapped Jasper in the fusion against her will violating Jasper, we saw Jasper trying to unfuse but Lapis stopped it, this went on for months. So Jasper's only experience with fusion is a forced one and Lapis basically taught that that consent isn't necessary and kept her trapped until she thought she liked it. Jasper is not a likable person but when fusion is seen as an allegory for relationships Lapis was the abuser and screwed Jasper up even more than she already is.
Watching Jasper get corrupted was just...wow. This was the first time we actually see it happen. And not by the Diamonds! This was the first time we saw a gem just come undone and turn into that. She brought it upon herself because of how toxic she is, but still. It's kind of sad.

I think Bismuth was mishandled with having them bubble her at the end of her Self-titled episode. It just feels wrong and out of character for Everyone. For Garnet and Pearl who knew her, but especially for Steven who literally has a hang up about trying to communicate and make connections with literal Monsters. Bismuth did not feel like she earned being timed out so harshly to be bubbled just for veering slightly in Jasper's direction.
She did try to kill steven and only truly believed he wasn't Rose when he said he was gonna tell the gems. There was no way of talking that confrontation down, and the gems would've likely kept her in the bubble to protect Steven, they looked mournful but accepting to keep her there.
The relationships and the slow drip of world building are some of my favorite things about this show.
This show is a masterclass in information control as an aspect of storytelling.
