Jasper got corrupted because she fused with a corrupted gem. As for the rest of the corrupted ones.. They were all corrupted by the Diamonds, Centipeedle said so.
Rebecca has stated in the past that Jasper has a lot of self hatred from being from Earth and not exactly fitting into the mold she imposes on everyone because of it
Makes sense. Her entire kindergarten was rushed because of the war. And based on what Peridot said it's reasonable to assume she was the only one there who wasn't "poorly made". Homeworld likely treated the other Jaspers made there even worse than common footsoldiers. I wouldn't be surprised if this Jasper was the only one who got off planet before what happened. In which case the, "I got out because I'm better than this place" line would make a tragic amount of sense.

This is the interpretation that makes the most sense to me, because fusions are supposed to be a personification of the relationship between two gems, however I remember when this episode came out a lot of people had negative comments on smoky quartz's form and that's why there was a clear artistic change whenever theywas shown later on in the series

1:40 dude, did you not process that the diamonds literally corrupted all gems on earth with a single attack? We've seen this with Centipede's backstory
I love watching reactions of a show I grew up with. I remember when this episode came out, EVERYONE freaked out that Steven and Amethyst fused. I don‘t get the Smoky hate, she‘s amazing. But I also remember how many people were shocked about the reveal of Pink Diamond being Jasper‘s and Rose‘s Diamond. The fans were freaking out, making theories, etc. Oh those good old days…
In the episode that Steven tried to heal Centipeetle, it was said by Pearl that the Diamonds corrupted the Gems, and it was shown through Centipeetle's drawings how it happened
It is very likely that Jasper did hurt Steven pretty bad but if you look carefully just before he licks his hand to go possibly heal Jasper, after she swipes at him, he instantly presses the same hand into his chest where she attacked so he healed whatever wound she made instantly or at least that's my little theory
And I mean, it’s later revealed that after around season 1 finale, his healing develops enough to heal a majority of any serious injuries he gets immediately.
I love how we got an introduction to Smokey. They’re underrated as hell Also, the fact that Amethyst said to Jasper “Come here, sis” makes this lore sad but also comforting
@@Paolo-ec2si Eh the arms, the silhouette the fact all of the fusions we have seen before have a degree of power to them and this one just looks kind of huggable.
I really like how instead of making Amatyst stronger than Jasper they made Amatyst beat her with the help of Steven which sends the message that strength isn´t the most improtant thing in the world and it is okay to need help from others. That is one of my favorite things about Steven Universe.
Imo the three arms are symbolic due to the fact that both Steven and Amethyst are “imperfect”. Amethyst grew out wrong and Steven is half human. They are objectively “wrong”.
Smokey is supposed to be deformed or not look symmetrical to show the imperfections of steven and amethyst, i really like the look tbh Also in this case jasper corrupted because she fused with a corrupted gem
Even before Centipeetle's account, Lapis showed Steven her history when they were at the Galaxy Warp. In both cases we saw a near-panicky last-minute evacuation by the Homeworld loyalists still on Earth before the flash and music that apparently caused corruption.
Corrupted gems normally are from the end of the rebellion who were left behind during evacuation, courtesy of the Diamonds making a last ditch effort to purge the rebels, but Jasper fused with a corrupted gem, which soon afterwards started spreading in her. Corrupted gems are corrupted in body, mind, and emotional state. The diamonds are seen as the strongest and most perfect of the gem caste and irl people scramble for diamonds more than others like sapphires, rubies, emeralds or the likes. also jasper said Rose only took in unwanted gems like it was a bad or ego thing. But look at it like this, Jasper said that any off color/ those who don't fit into the mold of the diamond authority should be purged. If you cannot fit in with the mold, then all you need to do is find a 'home' that accepts you and your flaws and unique traits. Jasper normally called Yellow, Yellow Diamond, but gems who bear the particular diamond color say my diamond so that was a hint. Brace yourself, next episode is going to be a doozy. Hey, Smoky is my second fav fusion. Garnet will always be my number 1 fusion. We've seen Blue Diamond in a flashback remember.
I didn't see anyone else say something to this question you had, so I'll put it here. The Sonic spindash type move isn't something every gem can do, but it does seem to be a move unique to any quartz soldier gem. We know that since each gem is made for specific purposes, it's likely that all gems of the same type have the same powers. So amethysts, jaspers, and (assumedly) rose quartzes should all be capable of that roll attack.
5:00 all the better to hold the yo-yo with beybla-- yeahh 8:02 I mean her mind isn't corrupted rn 10:00 well not literally 10:40 yeah - Rose did something to her diamond, so now we know that she was transferred to YD 12:00 I thought you saw the comment in Monster Reunion about code glitch etc etc but maybe this was...idk - recorded before you saw it
To be clear this isn't how corruption normally happens. Jasper is probably the first gem to attempt fusion with a corrupted gem and suffered the consequences for it. The way the other gems corrupted was sort of explained in the centipeedle episode
I wouldn't say that they join rose at rock bottom. They join her because she tells them that homeworld is wrong. Gems aren't supposed to believe this, yet their proof of that. Once she tells them it's ok to be themselves without the fear of homeworld, the idea alone is freeing. So they join the crystal gems. U should watch to the extended intro, some lyrics kinda show this
In the last Centipeedle episode she stated that it was the diamonds, that they ordered an evacuation and did some kind of hail mary to try and get rid of any remaining gems on earth assuming they would only be crystal gems or unimportant foot solders. Jasper's corruption only happened because she fused with a corrupted gem and it spread like an infection.
Jasper corrupted because she fused with a corrupted gem. I thought that was kinda obvious XD Idk if others have said this already but you can think of gems like computers: when you break your gem is like breaking the keyboard, it can be repaired easily and the computer itself isn't broken; but corruption is like a virus, you need more than just fixing the physical part.
There's no name for the Fusion but I found a gemstone at the nearest Gem Store few years ago and it's LionSkin Jasper, its description at the store fit the Fusion and Jasper which says achieving goals.
I don't think it was ever confirmed but my interpretation of this episode was always that fusing with the corrupted gem is what corrupted Jasper, like as if corruption was a disease that was able to spread through fusion (kind of like an std)
The Caste System was somewhat tied to real-world gemology and mineralogy. In real life diamonds are the hardest known substance on Earth (10 on the Mohs scale) with a cutting resistance approximately 140 times greater than that of sapphire and ruby (9 on the Mohs scale). Diamond has a high refractive index and a considerably high level of dispersion. It is often imitated, but no other substance can rival its superior hardness. Many well-experienced gemologists can often identify diamond by its strong luster alone. However, this was not a proper rule for the series as it took creative liberties with Gem-types and their rankings.
fun fact: i don't think they ever really say this in canon, but Jasper came back to earth in season 1 to prove that she's more than the kindergarten she was made in (and she sort of failed). Jasper and Amethyst are more alike than you'd think.
Corrupted Gems had been normal Gems before the events that unfolded at the end of The Rebellion. As a last-ditch effort in the war for Earth the other Diamonds sent out a flash of bright light which corrupted Gems from both Homeworld and the Rebellion on Earth. In "Monster Reunion" Nephrite described it as a "song" and remembering it seemed to be what triggered her reversion. As revealed in "Earthlings" second-hand corruption occurs to normal Gems through fusion with corrupted ones as Jasper started corrupting after fusing with Ocean Jasper and forming a semi-corrupted fusion.
When it comes to fusions, the more "emotionally compatible" the gems, the more "humanoid" and stable the fusions are, Ruby and Sapphire are SUPER compatible, so Garnet only has one extra eye, add in Pearl and Amethyst? Not totally compatible, so Alexandrite has more arms, and even two mouths. Then look at Lapis and Jasper, Malachite wasn't particularly humanoid looking at all.
I think this is just a fan theory, (the humanoid part, not stability). Fluorite is made of 6 gems that genuinely like each and stayed fused for thousands of years without fighting, but they don't look humanoid at all.
