WOW 74 keep up the good work. Just turned 60 my self, and am thinking about getting an e-bike. If the motor assist comes on automatically when you pedal can you turn it off and JUST pedal on the fly? And of course back on when you want assistance?
Mechanic's opinion: That Shimano derailleur is the base line model that goes on pretty much every inexpensive bicycle out there. It's solid, it works, thirty year ago it was damn close to state of the art, I've dealt with dozens of them in my neighborhood bike shop. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the unit. As per the review, you're talking more like $599.00 for the bike, but at that price it still seems worth the money. Considering that most credible e-bikes start in four figures, this is a bargain, assuming your needs are within the power it puts out.
I purchased this bike back in November, 2020 and and I love it. I ride it almost every day. Just short distance trips but I go places I wouldn't be going without the pedal assistance.
thank you for the video and the detailed review. I picked one up used non working for $150.00 I was able to fix it in about 20 minutes by resoldering the rear nine pin motor connector. The frame is nice and light, but the seat was awful so I replaced it with a more comfortable one. The brakes work just fine but the 6 speed Shimano took some adjusting. I have another really nice dual motor Ebike, but this one is great for urban commuting and not worrying too much about it getting stolen. I do keep 2 good ubolt locks with a thick cable on it and so far no one has tried to steal it. In all it is great for the price.
2 years and still running, works great for $399 and Hyper has one of the best customer service I have ever dealt with. I only use it in the sub and around town.

I’ve had this bike for almost 2 years now and it’s been my daily driver. It’s a beautiful bike and is very powerful for a “budget” ride. I paid $598 for it and at that was a bargain. I did replace the pedals, saddle, added fenders, lights, rack, panniers, signals etc. but it def is a good deal. It really is the best, “bang for your buck”. And like I said I’ve had it almost 2 years and it’s hanging in there with some basic maintenance and upkeep. I would recommend that anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank, but is looking for a gorgeous, inexpensive, reliable first foray into electronic bicycles, get this. Nice review, brother.
I actually have one of these, and it actually pushed me further into the E-bike Category. It is a good commuter style bike (Hybrid). IF you can find it for $399, it is worth every penny. It is a small frame and it feels small.

I got this at the same time you got yours. My first ebike and I love it. It is not a mountain bike though peoples. The suspension is horrifically bad. Perfect for neighborhood cruising on blacktop. It goes pretty fast too. Thanks for a great review it's the best one I found
i love my E-bike. I'm 83 and hill climbing is not as easy as it used to be. When the motor kicks in, my legs feel 20 years younger. It's a nice feeling.
We Have had our hyper bikes for 10 months and we fell in love with e-bikes it is the perfect starter ebike. I say starter because it takes some getting used to in traffic ,we ride all over town we bought bags for my bike and cart for my husband's bike and we shop for groceries with them. Perfect starter bike. What we save in gas makes them pay for themselves in the long run.
Excellent presentation. 2 points: (I don't have an electric bike.) Leave the assist off as you start, when the torque demand is highest and USE THE LOWER GEARS TO TAKE OFF FROM A STOP. Engage the electric assist once you get going. I bet you'll multiply the range on that bike significantly, instead of burning battery on takeoff from a stop or slow speed with minimum momentum. Then shift up and help out the battery with some calorie burning. Also, put some nice ceramic brake shoes on those caliper brakes. They'll give you all the stopping power you need. I wouldn't stress those (inexpensive?) spokes with disc brakes. (You make a good point. I never trusted those electric scooters with tiny wheels. They're a guaranteed face-plant waiting to happen.) Regards.
I HAVE AN EBIKE, I HAVE TRIED PEDDLING ON TAKE OFF THEN KICK IN THE POWER, THAT DOES NOT SAVE ON THE BATTERY, I TRIED PEDDLING ON TAKE OFF AND JUST STRAIGHT THROTTLE TAKE OFF, NO DIFFERENCE IN THE BATTERY LIFE OR DISTANCE THE BATTERY, I HAVE EXPERIMENTED WITH BOTH TO SEE, AND FOUND NO DIFFERENCE, THE ONLY THING I FOUND IS PEDDLING ON TAKE OFF IS MUCH FAST TO GET UP SPEED, THAT IS THE ONLY REAL DIFFERENCE, I AM NOT SURE IF THATS ALL EBIKES ARE THAT WAY, I KNOW MINE AND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE NOTICED NO REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE BATTERY LIFE, MY EBIKE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PEDALED TO KICK IN THE MOTOR, I CAN HAVE IT STRAIGHT THROTTLE (WITHOUT PEDALING AT ALL)TAKE OFF, OR PEDAL TO START, IT AWESOME TO HAVE THAT CHOICE, AND HAVE EXTRA BATTERIES THAT HAVE A LARGER AH, I CAN RIDE WITHOUT PEDALING FOR ABOUT 35 TO 40 MILES ON 1 CHARGE WITHOUT PEDDLING, DECENT VIDEO, YOU GET LUCKY FINDING AN EBIKE UNDER 300 DOLLARS
@@23names this same bike was $704.00 at our local Walmart with "expert" assembly that was gonna be 3 days after delivery by an Angie's List person. It took me longer to get it out of the box than it did for me to put it together. The one I got from the store the year before was only $632.00 already put together. It was $200.00 cheaper in the winter 🙄 season
at $399 i would have purchased it to test if an electric bike would work for me,but todays price at walmart is $639+tax with $150 shipping charge total of $789+.ill pass.
@@straitjacket5656 you might be able to build one on an existing bike for like $200-$300. I’m not sure if they would be any good but I might’ve seen hub kits around that price before. Can’t imagine they will be getting any cheaper. Otherwise yeah you just gotta save up I guess. I don’t have much money myself at all by any means and I had to set money aside for a little while but after many months I had more than enough money set aside that I had saved from eating out less and just little things like that, but it’s so frickin fun once you finally have one. It was a good day for me.
Hey man, thanks for the great review :) I've been waiting for a real consumer (Affordable option) electric bike, and this looks like we finally have a realistic option here :) It's about time ! I would say the average price of a "so called" low end E-bike is $1,500.00 plus CAD $. I will see about getting one of these from Canadian Walmart ?
i bought three of these when they went on sale , all 3 still work fine . two of the three had the wires inside the box cut for the motor cut of switch on the brakes . the seats are horrible ,the tire tubes will get a hole n them if you look at them to hard .and the pedals are crap, one even stripped out the crank arm so after I changed all the seats , upgraded to slime tire tubes, and replaced one crank arm (they are special) and all the pedals , we have ridden them allot . I DONOT abuse them about zero off-road ,I rode them like I know how much they cost if I break them so these parts WILL break on you eventually. If you ride on low speed which is 10mph and actually pedal a little the battery will last a long time , my ass gives out before the battery , however put it on high speed, at that point you about cannot help pedal you top out at 19mph and it will eat the battery much much faster . I bought a forth one used because of a stripped out pedal and a broken sensor ring. they had already changed the seat . It is worth it . You figure I have 1,200 in the three the forth put it up to 1,400 figure thanks to Amazon 200 in upgrades is 1,600 . so my entire family can go ride for the price of one good ebike now, yes it's worth it IF your going to ride on paved areas ,off road you WILL eat dirt ha ha
Good review. To sum this is a good value if you are either lucky, willing to return for replacement, or can fix small things or put up with small problems. If you need to pay someone to fix every little thing a cheap bike like this will usually eat you alive.
I bought this bike 2 years ago, i broke my old bike and this save me throw minus 40 c weather. Everydays for 3 months, im a pro at it now, i turn off the power, i use it to pick up speeed. I turn it off and keep going, i took it on 20 mile trips up and down, in summer and i had half of batery left, i even consider doing uber eats. I saved 2000 in bus fares, in a year. It already paid itself. You could get an extra battery if you want but its been 2 years and its been fine. I would definitely buy it again.
Leo do you just turn off the remote on the handlebars ? Does that save the battery life even with the battery still on if you shut off the controller ? I been using this bike on 12 to 15 mile runs and just like you now I'm getting the hang of when I don't need the motor .
@@acerkrt YES the bike itself drives really smooth with out the assist . I use the motor just on uphills, and to pick up pace . And then i turn it off, i had the budget to buy a better bike, but i choose this one because i love the benefits of biking, and in minus 40 degress she kept up. Slush and everything, for 4 months. I keep it lubed and indoors. My only problem was the salt and a crash i had it broke the magnets on the sensor. But i just order a 10 dollars magnet sensor from china, and works great. . Just like new. I cant wait to have a 4 year of adventures with her. The battery still in great shape. 👍
@@armexico2003 you know when your battery kicks in if you want to just coast like a throttle you just rock your feet slightly back and forth on the pettles instead of a full turn and the motor stay engaged . I love this bike so far . I even sprung the 200 for an extra battery from hyper and have it on a seat pole rack.
Who cares as long as you're not a hardcore MTBer launching the thing off jumps or racing downhill , I'm sure it's perfectly fine for just cruising around .
If it lasts a year it's worth it at that insane price . High quality E mtbs with a big name mid drive START at $2500 to 3000 . Aside from that your camera work is excellent especially the closeups and i actually like the music which generally annoys me. But to be honest at my age , 75 , i'm always pissed off .😂
I was pissed off all the time too. Life is full of challenges. I read what joy means. Joy is an overabundance of happiness. "Yeah right!", I said. Thing is, like most of us I never thought about life and the universe in supernatural terms. To me spirit or spiritual things were fantasy because I couldn't see them. If somebody mentioned Jesus, I'd get pissed off and call them religious nutjobs. Thing is, people judge before they experience something new. I never would have looked to faith unless a dumb lady didn't try to kill me when she ran over me and my bike with her car. I did some soul searching (yes we have a soul) in the hospital and later went to a Christian church with a friend. Best thing I ever did. I found out Jesus is real and joy really is a thing! Not pissed off anymore. Prayers all around. Hope you find joy.
I HAVE the touring model of this Hyper E-Ride. Have had for just over a year and have logged 1300 km on variable terrain in southern Ontario. Just love to ride it. Haven't had any mechanical issues. This bike is powerful enough to climb a 45 degree incline about 40 feet long which I climb on about every outing. Ride with a friend who has a similar similarily styled bike with 350 watt motor which COST almost double the price. It doesn't go anywhere that my Hyper won't go. He has more range so I purchased a 2nd battery but have not had the need for. Interesting enough a new battery for his is also double the price. If I were to be buying a second bike, it would be another Hyper E-Ride. Very good video that you did
Anything with a motor is a recipe for disaster did you know a single engine plane has the highest fatality rate of any driven vehicle.... E-bikes 100 times more likely to be injured than even an actual motorcycle
I am a person who knew just about nothing about E bikes, but this was a good video for understanding the basic functionality. Not in the market, just want the knowledge.
The only good thing about short bars is for commuting in city traffic, cutting lanes, going between cars etc. you want the thinnest over all width to give you clearance.
Walmart been selling eBike at least as far back 2004. I assembled many of the for Customers who ordered them through store online delivery. Many of them were Roadmasters and Mongooses. The Mongoose CX24V450 Electric was very popular for awhile . I still have one I thinking of repairing it to sell now that the parts are dirt cheap.
Very well produced video - thx for the great informative presentation & the lack of music is also appreciated. Too bad the bike is off from it's $399 sale price now...
Very informative. I like the neighborhood cruiser on a budget. I need a commuter for the miles and some top names have those budgeted under 2K. As I learn the players I thought the e-Bikes prices were going down, lots of competitors. Lastly you're flying! I would definitely use that as a spare!
I thinks it’s perfect ... I don’t want all the work done by the bike ... as an older gentleman, I need the extra help because of my knees etc ... I’m not the triathlete I used to be ..l a bit of assistance for those extra steep hillsides or extended long uphills. Generally, ebikes are in the $1k-$4k range ...
Don't buy this piece of crap. I guarantee you they are using the cheap blue wrap batteries that are inferior to name brand batteries (they are lower grade). WORSE, you will have to pay someone to rebuild the battery when it dies in less than a year because of the fact that it is integrated into the frame. That means someone locally has to take that battery apart, remove all the cells and replace them. This is not something you can do yourself because it requires a battery welder.
@@markkusallinen3469 Ain't gonna happen. They are not in the business of giving away wear and tear items which are the most expensive component of the bike. Those warranties are not worth the paper they aren't printed on.

I bought a first generation ebike from Wal-Mart at least eight years ago. It was from a company called eZip. It was a beast with an external rear drive motor and a battery that went into a saddle bag rack at the back. It was a beast, but it did the job.
They probably use the same wheel hub set up on the back as other models that they sell to save money in production instead of having a different one for everybody.
Thanks for making this video. Really good to see the bike in action. This would be perfect for me to go shopping and run errands around town. I doubt I will see it for under $400 here in Canada, but I will keep my eyes open!
I have a Rad rover eBike I love it. I got it because I have bad knees and getting older I like the power assist for going up grades and leisure riding. I think I might get one of these Walmart bikes for my grandkids.
If you already own a mountain or road bike and need assistance to continue using it you can convert it to a 750W ebike DIY for about $500, a shop would probably charge an additional $100-150 to install the kit for you.
@@isaackvasager9957 I built a DIY hub mounted conversion when 1000w 48volt setups were allowed before the 750w restrictions. I used Lipo batteries from Radio Control model airplanes. One problem I had with the cheaper Chinese hub mounted motors were the bearings would give out after about 8,000 miles of usage. If you ride on the road you need to switch to wider road tires.
I bought one of those cheap ones for my wife. The battery started dieing a year into it! So what do you save ? We bought Rads out of Sealttle, WA. They were a lot more, but worth it ! Full fenders incase you get caught in the rain. 750w Bafang motor 14amphr 48vt Samsung battery. 20"fat tire good quality tires. I have 3200mi on mine tires and hardly show wear.. Our bikes fold, head, tail light, brake light flashing rear light. 5 levels of power assist and throttle. 7 speeds disc brakes. We paid $1300. Well worth it. The cheap one we sold a yr later for half of what we paid for it telling the buyer they'd need to spend about $300. For a new battery. OH! And they rate the the battery for up to 45mi we've gone 40mi and still had half the charge left. We do peddle all the time using PAS 1or2. GO RAD ! YOU WON'T BE SORRY !
Couldn't agree more, I watched this for kicks and that's all. I have a radmission that I bought 15 months ago and got the larger standard rad battery for it as well, so my range is off the charts when I need it. And I have 7000km on the bike and it's solid, no problems with a bit of regular maintenance and tune ups. I personally wouldn't even consider a Walmart ebike if they were giving the damm things away!
I love ebikes but refuse to pay over $500 for them. I saw this Hyper bike last year on sale too but didn't pull the trigger. I recently bought one in the $300's...that's a great price. Glad to see prices coming down...hopefully, we'll see sub $300 ebikes soon.
@@diana3599 Trust me when I say that in the long run you are better off going to a bike shop. Yes you will pay more up front but that guy at the bike shop is not a corporate stooge and he will want to keep you as a customer. Product quality and service should be your priority.
It was a spur of the moment Christmas gift for my wife. I have since purchased a better bike. Not a bike shop bike but still leaps and bounds better for $850.
VERY nice review...Thank You! Didn't even know Walmart had E Bikes in. I looked it up on their website and they have different ones to choice from. Happy New Years Darling 😁
@@mixflip I was quite pleased with the different assortment of E Bikes they offered on their website, including 'Foldable E Bikes' BUT I will wait until Spring when they will have them on their floor so I can look them over in person. I live in Carson City NV and it is a bit hilly and I believe the one you reviewed would do me just fine 🥰😁 Even though I REALLY want an 'Lectric ebike' foldable, these are sweet and on sale again for $899-. What’s the total weight of this bike, I live in an 2 story apt upstairs and want to secure it in my apt. I’m 66 yrs old and not that strong so weight is important.
Phil I'm old school I'm 71 if you are going 20 mph a back brake won't stop you but the bumper on the car that you hit will. the only reason you would ever fly over the handle bars is because you weren't holding them, when you put on the brakes at any speed over 10 mph you need a front brake to stop.
I bought one. A VIVI mountain bike with pedal assist. Bigger tires than a 10 speed, but not a fat bike. I only got out on one ride before the weather turned bad. And I'm waiting for spring. I had enough winter bike riding while still a kid. After the first ride I put a new seat on. Mine wasn't $399, but it wasn't $1000 either. Even just one ride in. Yes, it is worth it. Ever since my first ride, I have been watching reviews on YT. And I want a Cheetah. I think it is the best looking bike on the market right now.
I love this bike. If you rock your peddles back and forth an inch or 2 like a seasaw going forward with your left and backward with your right foot it acts as a throttle. You don't even have to peddle at all.
That is a downside of geared motors versus direct drive, where the hub is literally the motor. Higher quality geared hubs like Bafang are a little quieter, but there's still going to be some gear noise. Having said that, it's a huge improvement over those nasty two-stroke weed eater bike conversion kits, and if it takes even a few of those off the road, it's a huge improvement in the noise level.
I wonder if people riding this bike on High speed should probably invest in a motorcycle helmut for better head protection when experiencing an incident at high speed.
*leans in.* I can't say on longterm for stock wise. But as a upgrade platform. It's a good deal. I'm the only one doing insane upgrades to mine. I'm focusing on putting a mid-drive on it, with a front hub, and dual batteries (standard internal and a external). I'm also likely gonna swipe the batteries in the internal for larger mah to bring it from 7.8 to 10.4ah for more range. Right now i got it with dual hubs. stock rear and ebikeing 500watt front. stock internal battery powering the rear, and a insane 30ah 36volt for the front. Which can also be swiped to run the rear if i wish since both are 36volt systems. I think besides other youtuber before me. I had it the longest of all and it's handled the upgrades and heftiness of the extra weight rather well. The tires are double walled alloy rims, with 12gauge spokes (which are used on higher end bikes.). The frame has mounting points for a 1-2-3 point rack. (1point being the seatpost. 2point being seatpost and frame, or just frame points. Or 3point being both frame points and on the seat post. Which i have a 3point rack.). The stem has ballbearings inside it which aren't those little metal ones with little roller balls. They are full cartiage versions. The wheels are both bolt on (Not QR/Quickrelease or thru-axle.). The rear has disc brakes mounts with 6screw disc rotor holes on the motor hub (must use the screws inside the motor hub and not new ones. The new ones will be to long. And the hub will only allow 180mm at max for rotors, Due to the frame design curves in.)
Please correct if wrong: Model reviewed: Hyper HYP-E26-1104. Wt: 46.3 lbs. Battery: Li+ 281Wh. Motor: 250W. => ~1.1 hr run time at max cont output. Next step up: Hyper HYP-E29-2100, wt: 46.3 lbs, battery: Li+ 281W, 29" wheels + disk brakes, +$50 Non-regenerative motor/ electronic controller so the battery is not recharged when coasting. 250W is around the max that a casual biker will produce. Power settings may be for more than simplicity. Some municipalities may not allow for throttling because this could put e-bikes into the motor vehicle category. This could also play a part in requiring pedaling, even if slow, for motor assistance.
Very nice and informative like the way you use the least amount of words to give the review also fair in the way you rode the bike. Very good thank you. Might have to get one myself. Looks like a good deal to me even if it was 500 now. And the insurance a good idea I think
How long will the battery last, and where do you get a replacement if you need one? It looks like a good E bike to start with and our Henry Hudson bike trail on the shore in NJ is flat. The only thing that concerns me is a lot of bike shops may not have the know how on repairing an E bike, and parts and labor could mean $$$$$.
i have this same exact bike, but paid the 598... even for that price i am still happy with it, but does have one issue, the chain sometimes comes off the front sprocket, to the inside when changing gears, especially if fast or aggresively.... going from 6 to 1st quickly will make front chain on drive sprocket fall inside and on to peddle sensors every time... but, you can usually still use the motor function without chain on as long as does not get stuck... just peddle without chain until find place to stop.... goes right back on easy..... also you can cheat and just kinda tap the peddles back and forth instead of peddling. i would rather have a better one..... but it is not bad at all for the price, even at 600 that i paid. however i would have saved another 200 or 300 and got a better one had i known how much i would like it.
That was a terrific review and you touched on absolutely every aspect of the bike itself including performance and each individual component of the bike. Very well done!

thank you for the video and the detailed review. I picked one up used non working for $150.00 I was able to fix it in about 20 minutes by resoldering the rear nine pin motor connector. Hi Derrick,
You are right. Not a mountain bike
I put some powder grafite….It helped a bit.
i love my E-bike. I'm 83 and hill climbing is not as easy as it used to be. When the motor kicks in, my legs feel 20 years younger. It's a nice feeling.
It's an awesome feeling. I'm 63 and have had it for a year. I rode five hundred miles in June.

I can't even afford the 400$
@@straitjacket5656 you might be able to build one on an existing bike for like $200-$300.
A great thorough review on a cheap e-bike that someone might have some trepidation buying based on potential quality issues based on price
Save money on busses. Awesome!
The question always for me is, how good is it as an actual bicycle without all the electric stuff.

I think the one thing I'm looking for is how easy can these bikes be pedaled without the motors help
If you already own a mountain or road bike and need assistance to continue using it you can convert it to a 750W ebike DIY for about $500, a shop would probably charge an additional $100-150 to install the kit for you.
How do these kits work, do the electric hubs come on a rim? So you lose your original rim? Or do you put an electric hub on your existing rim?
@@isaackvasager9957 I built a DIY hub mounted conversion when 1000w 48volt setups were allowed before the 750w restrictions. I used Lipo batteries from Radio Control model airplanes. Weighs 45 pounds, give-or-take. The removeable battery is about 5 pounds.
It's old school, but we always had a rear drum brake and that was it. It kept you from flying over the handlebars (usually.)
True. I do like pedal assist. It makes things simple. No twisting of the wrist.
Never heard such a LOUD Electric Motor !! 🤪🤯
I'm sure everyone that's talking sh!t about this cheap ebike just wait till GAS PRICES go up more. Then will see you riding one.😆 great video

It's only a good deal if it lasts for a while. If it doesn't then it's not a good deal. We need a longer term evaluation.

250W is around the max that a casual biker will produce.
Power settings may be for more than simplicity. Some municipalities may not allow for throttling because this could put e-bikes into the motor vehicle category. This could also play a part in requiring pedaling, even if slow, for motor assistance.

It depends on how hard you pedal, flatland or uphill, smooth or bumpy road and how heavy or light you are.
Take that pedal sensor and relocate it to sense wheel rotation and it's no longer pedal assist. Lol
I wish I could.
Yeah, but then you would need some kind of throttle. lol
Thank you for this well informative video

i have this same exact bike, but paid the 598... even for that price i am still happy with it, but does have one issue, the chain sometimes comes off the front sprocket, to the inside when changing gears, especially if fast or aggresively.... going from 6 to 1st quickly will make front chain on drive sprocket fall inside and on to peddle sensors every time... but, you can usually still use the motor function without chain on as long as does not get stuck... just peddle without chain until find place to stop.... goes right back on easy..... also you can cheat and just kinda tap the peddles back and forth instead of peddling. i would rather have a better one..... but it is not bad at all for the price, even at 600 that i paid. however i would have saved another 200 or 300 and got a better one had i known how much i would like it.
Looks like a pretty good buy. One of my first ebikes was from a sale @ Walmart.
I hope it worked out for you
