I really want a serger machine but after seeing the prices I’ll have to whip stitch by hand. Thank you, i needed it to be broken done because I was wondering how it would keep its shape if done by hand.
Im looking to finish a large rug. Is it absolutely necessary to stitch the roll down first before whip stitching with the yarn? I was thinking to use straight pins to hold it in place and take the pins out as I go. Is this a horrible idea?
Thank you Deanna, I just watched your visit with Haley at Loop by Loop and thought wow, what an energetic artist so I fell on this binding tutorial and I feel more confident in finishing off my rugs......
I have been intimidated by those “professional style” hookers and you have just given me the freedom to just as Nike says “just do it”. You are just what I needed. I have taken a number of hooking retreats with some very talented teachers, so I know what you are talking about letting your freedom decide.....you remind me of Dianne Stoeffel who wasn’t caught up in the exact science of hooking.
I will continue to follow you and be recharged by you. I have just started back hooking after an eight year hiatus after two thumb reconstructive surgeries, so I hook with trepidation that I will wear out my thumb joints again but I wear my braces and take lots of breaks. Hi Deanna, I have a couple of questions about backings... I was gifted 5 yards of rug warp. There was no info with it and I have been unable to find an answer. Do I need to wash and dry it before I use it? Should I wash it as one big piece or cut and zigzag the edges before wash it? I really appreciate your help! Melanie
I don't wash my backing. But if you an to put it in the washing machine... like if you're hooking with jersey... then I would. If you're hooking with wool, no. xxx

Hi Deana :) I know this was done months and months ago, but, would you consider making a kit for me?? I love love love this piece! Your wool strips look narrower than what I thought primitive is? I can cut the wool if I know the size. Thank you for taking the mystery out of yarn binding! I'm learning so much from you :) Btw, I love the frame on your glasses. I haven't seen any like those and I'm looking for frames for "cheater glasses."

Thank you, Deanna! This is the best video I've seen on finishing because you showed all of it including the pig's breakfast parts. I love that you think out loud on your choices and give reasons for them. This is the only video I've seen where going around the corners was actually shown completely. Others have just skipped over that part! It's the hardest part and needs the most instruction! Thanks for being brave!

What type of glue you use on it
I never use glue. The loops won't ever come out. I know a lot of rug tufters use glue but with hooking it's discouraged.

I have been clicking on all your edge finishing/binding rug videos trying to find the one where you discuss the thickness of the yarn for binding. I can't seem to find the one I watched months ago so I'm just going to ask. Do you usually use 4 ply (Super) or 3 ply (Atlantic) Briggs and Little? I think what I see in your store is 2ply for punching, is that right? The bulky that I've got on hand is all neutrals and I need some fun colors for a particular project that needs whipping. Many thanks!
I usually use 3 ply. Sometimes 4. I whip a few inches them measure how much I'll need in all. Always whip corner bc that uses the most yarn. I'm doing another whipping video in next couple says

Rainy day in Bermuda so a cuppa tea, my homemade sour dough bread with jam, my rug in my lap, and you on my iPad. Delightful! A few good laughs about tummy tucks and spanx too! I will look for your primary site rather than just watch UA-cam videos. If I watched you as much as I liked, I would be in heaven, but no earthly good to my family.
Far too much talking. Whole books are read in 30 minutes and by the time the actual demo starts people’s heads are aching.
