- Hooking Rugs with Yarn by Judy Taylor of Little House Rugs. This video is packed full of information about how to hook rugs from yarn. There are descriptions of the various fibers and lots of tips to help you get started rug hooking on your own.
I'm a beginner and have done a fair amount of research and study about rug hooking for a year or so. This is far and away better than anything I've seen so far that demonstrates rug hooking in such a clear, concise, and understandable manner. You are a gifted teacher and I thank you very much for all the gems/info you share in this video! The name of your farm caught my eye beings my last name is Edel!
Judy it's time for an updated video. I know you are now teaching the use of punching on pvc. Why not update?
Cosa darei....per fare anche io .....tutto questo!
My grandmother did this, she used wool, she'd shred the old coats. As my thin wool, and created amazing works of art. I wish I had her tools, and her rugs...she was amazing
Love Judy, she got me intetested with her rug hooking with yarn book!!!
60 plus years ago my Uncle made hooked rugs using Chala bags as backing. Any old jumpers we had were unpicked the wool wound into balls for him to use. Judith
Y y
Judith Oliver that's a great story
Do you know how to make this washable like with a spot cleaner or rug doctor? I want to make a rug but I want to make one about 8 feet by 10 feet.
Thanks Judy. I have been rug hooking for three years now. Of course, most of it was researching. I have gone back and forth with wool strips and wool yarn. I love the flexability of the yarn, so I work only with yarn. The remaining wool material is used as backing. I can dye the wool backing and dont, necessarily, have to complete the background. I am now trying to get my lettering right. Thanks again. You are the only video I have found on hooking with yarn. Tanya
Thank you so much for sharing your video, I enjoyed it so much!!! and I loved the music as well!!!
Could you suggest a few good hooks that you recommend for hooking with yarn? My hands are short and chubby. Thank you!
Wow. Excellent video. Very informative and fun! ❤️ Thank you.
This is an excellent video on how to do rug hooking. I learned so much listening to Judy Taylor - now to get some linen or burlap and start planning a design. I've also seen her later videos on how to make your own rug frame, and have actually made one! Now to get some wools and get started! I loved hearing Judy calling the goats and sheep in, too! "Emily, Margaret, come a runnin!" Loved it!
I want to make a cushion, instead of wool, is it possible to use fabric strips? If so what would you recommend? would silk cut into strips work?
Wonderful video. I love how you explained the history of rug making. I think I've just found the opportunity to use my yarn stash. Thank you for such a thorough and delightful demonstration!
Thank you very much for such an informative demonstration and clarity of explanation. Very much appreciated.
Wow..Very educational....I am looking into doing one,and came across your video....your sheep/goats are beautiful..loved how they ran to you when you called them..too cute!
Thank you for this
This video has helped me so much!!! Thank you😊
i love what your video is showing me. you make it so easy to learn and i would love to do that but i priced the items i need and i don`t have enought to start let alone a good yarn. my aunt had a black background with beautful flowers and leaves around it. she bought it overseas. she was one of the more rich side of the family. i loved cleaning for her because she was so refind and i would try to make my own, but i couldent that rug.
Good job dear continue to teach us
I have a problem, I can't sit upright and must recline. Is there a frame that I can use?
I have two latch hooks, if I can take off the latch part from one, can I use the tool to do this kind of rug hooking? Thanks
you gave me the taste for it & your providing all the instruction...thanks!
I wonder how they cleaned the rugs before vacuum cleaners were invented.
You would take them to the yard and hang them on the clothes line or a special rack made for the rugs, and you would beat them with a wire rug beater.
probably sweep them with a broom then beat them outside
We cleaned our rugs with snow every winter. Drop it on fresh cold snow, throw some snow on top and thump on it, then brush it off and you are done!
P. S. We had vacuum cleaner, but snow does the job better.
Tüchtige siedlerfrauen mit Ideen und kreativität
I have done latch hooked designs before, but I was blown over by the scope and attention to detail. I have looked at burlap and seen the potential, but linens? I have so many projects going on right now, and I enjoyed your presentation, well done!
I love this video. It is so informative and you have a wonderful way of explaining it. Thank you for making this video and so glad to see you have a shop where orders can be placed.
Thank you 🙏 a Vedic full of tips and very informative thanks again I m a beginner ❤️❤️
THAT MUSIC IS SO LOUD AN ANNOYING!!!! YOU ARE RUINING YOUR CLASS WITH IT!!! YOU SHOULD SHOW MORE RESPECT FOR YOUR VIEWERS, NOT EVERYBODY WANTS OT HEAR MUSIC.
I notice you don't use a frame, using your lap instead. that seems to be a Canadian technique. why do you do it? thanks
What ply is your wool
I’d like to purchase one of your beginner kits. Do you use burlap or some other type of rug backing? I’ve read that burlap rots. What do you think?
Jacobs!
Wow very impressive I'm glad to see there is a drawing on pattern. I went to Michael's yesterday and bought a rug hooking kit for my daughter who is not at all crafty but she has stage 4 cancer so I thought it would be good for her to keep her mind off of things. but I was also disappointed because the pattern was not drawn on it so now I'll have to take it back and I wish they would a said that on the box. I used to do while cooking myself and the patterns used to be right on the now you have to waste your time and read where the next piece of wool will go .but I've never seen it done like the way this video has done what a beautiful video.
I love this down home, country feeling in this video thats packed with wonderful information.
Thank you, Madam, for this professional video. You helped me a lot in my work.
Please, can you tell me the name of the jacket in the video (time 27:49)?, really it is very cool
Judy...do you remember what music pieces you used in this video, especially the first few?
thank your class, my question is how can I Lean to make yarn mat with needle? please explain to me if possible or if you know someone who knows to make it.thank you.
Thank you Ms.Taylor. Made my first sample, and did the math!
So many great tips you gave us!
I love the music and the sheep coming when you call is funny. Educational and good teaching also.
What kind of yarn is that? I'd love to try with yarn as opposed to wool "worms'.
hi judy, I like your tutorial. May I use regular yarn to make a rug to use next to my bed?
Thank you very much. Regards from România
Thanks Judy ~ An Excellent Video.

Where do you get your wool yarn.?
Did you miss the part of sheering sheep, washing, combing, spinning and dying the wool from her beloved sheep and goats.
Thank you for posting but the music is TOO LOUD
Love it- my son is learning this and your video was perfect!
Muito lindo Deus Abençoe Parabéns!!!!!!
I don't like watching things I'll never enjoy it only lets me know of what I've never even had opportunity to have
textiles were NOT hooked before about 1850. before than rugs LOOK like hooking, but were instead simply sewn with a big loop on top.
Again, very slow. I cant be bothered to watch all the tosh beforehand .
