  • A tutorial on how to bind the edge of your Latch Hook Rug to give it protection, strength and tidy it up. If you spotted my mistake when telling how to measure, well done. You don't times times it by 2, just measure the perimeter of your rug.

    I have been so nervous that binding my rug would be difficult as I am a beginner in all things latch hook and binding. Thank you so much for all of the information about the amount of binding and the length of the threading to use!! I feel much more confident that I can figure this out and fully complete my second latch hook rug! ^_^

    This is nice for a finished look, but I fold the canvas edges in and latch. Might be a little harder on the fingers for a bit, because you're latching 2 layers, but won't need finishing.

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 років тому +4

      Hi Vicki. I latch the double layers too and also bind as it protects the most vulnerable part of your project, especially if it is going to be a rug. However many people find the double latching hard and this is a great alternative. Clare x

    Thank you so much for this great tutorial. I just finished a latch hook project, however instead of using it as a rug, I prefer to frame it and hang it on the wall. Would you please help me to get some ideas on how to do ? I mean to say, should I do the edges like it is shown in this video and then frame it? Now it’s like the last piece of yarn is done with the edges left as it is. Kindly give me some ideas as this is my very first latch hook project that I have done with so much of passion.

      Hi There. Thank you for you message and so glad to help. In answer to your question re backing., yes I like to use a rubber spray called Super Grip. It does a great job. It seals the back and fixes the strands and is non slip too, plus easy to apply and non messy. Hope this helps. Clare

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  Рік тому

      Hi Maddie. I am afraid that once the edge of the canvas has been compromised the only alternative is to unpick 3 to 4 rows. You can then fold under and stitch a line down the canvas to reinforce it and then perhaps add back another row or two depending on how successful this is. The other way is to unpick several rows, overlap with another piece of canvas then hook through both layers. Then you get all your design. Hope this helps. Regards Clare

      I am reading this five months after you posted this. I assume you finished your canvas by now. Wanted to say: I started my first latch hook wall hanging recently. Right away, I thought to myself, "What if the canvas unravels?" Since I was deep into bookbinding during the pandemic, "PVA glue" struck my mind. It is so strong. It dries quickly ... a tiny amount on a toothpick applied to the canvas .. here and there ... I think would stop the unraveling. Just wanted to say that. I'm sure you've already finished your project. Hope it turned out for you!

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  5 років тому +1

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  7 років тому +2

      Hi Georgina. Sorry to hear you are having problems. The mitered corners need practice and just have a fiddle till it works out. You are forming a triangle with the binding underneath as you turn the corner. As for the puckering of your running back stitch, I think maybe you are pulling the thread too tight or going too deep into the back of your canvas and yarn.

    Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Where do you suggest buying the binding material? Freda Temple

      Hi Freda. Thank you for your lovely message. If you are in the UK you can get binding from my website but at the moment we are not shipping overseas. Otherwise you can just get it on the internet from other stores. Take care. www.utterlyhookeddesigns.co.uk/store/c1/utterlyhookeddesigns

    Can you please put up a video on doing our own original designs ??🙄
    Also, is the iron-on rug binding better than the sew-on binding??🤔

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns

      Hi Joyce. This is something I would like to do but just never seem to have the time. I will be popping a short video on my FB page soon with a simple design for people to copy. I prefer the sew on binding as the iron on never sticks properly and curls at the edges very quickly. Hope this helps. Clare

      @@UtterlyHookedDesigns Thanks so much for answering my text. And yes, I found out the iron-on rug binding does make my mat/rug curl at the edges.
      But they are so easy to use, I hate to give them up.😊
      Very good program you have. ❤👏

    Why do you need to measure the entire perimeter then multiply by 2?

    • @UtterlyHookedDesigns
      @UtterlyHookedDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, that was my little mistake. I usually measure the length and width and x 2 but had already said measure the whole perimeter. Hope that's clear. Regards

      Hi there. It is called rug binding and it protects the edge of your rug which is the most vulnerable part when in use and covers up the turned edge. Regards Clare
