I think the Wii isn't that old, when this game came out people were saying the same thing for the 90s and 80s. I think games have always had little creative touches like this and still do.
Sounds more like a DS or Gamecube song, if I'm being honest. I think I know what you mean by SNES by the instruments used, but its just too high quality sounding to be from the 16-bit era.
