Does anyone know why it's called KITSUNE(Fox) UDON even though there is no KITSUNE (Fox) in it? 🤔Thank you for stopping by! Stay warm friends!

I would love to know why

I saw that it is because fried tofu is a favorite food of fox in Japanese folktales. But I'm not sure.

And that the fried tofu, when stuffed, looks like fox-ears?

Because it’s the fox’s favorite & mine😊😊. Before my 30th birthday, i rarely wake up before 7. I used to prep everything before going to bed so when my son is getting ready for school, he could eat his breakfast of rice & hot soup before leaving the house. After 30yrs old onward, i simply woke up at 5am looking to eat hot rice with hot soup+ cold vegetables. It’s so strange and it’s stuck until these days in my 50s😂😂😂😂. Absolutely love your videos, Miwa san. Can you please discuss in a video what kind of things you would use amazake in/with? Thank you

this is completely unrelated but I’d like to thank you for keeping your children’s faces hidden, it always makes me sad to see young kids being pushed in front of a camera for content so thank you, you’re a good mother

Especially because I know it's probably hard to film around them, because kids are all up in your business 24/7.

As I've aged I have found it much better to eat more earlier in the day and way less or not at all in the evening. I just sleep and feel better that way.

I eat when I feel hungry and stop when I am full. My portions vary with my appetite but I like to try and eat small or light at dinner as I too feel better in the morning. I also prefer savoury dishes to sweet and love noodle soups

    And we have a saying:
In the morning eat breakfast like an emperor (a lot)
Midday for lunch eat like a king
Dinner in the evening like a beggar

I love to eat a large breakfast - usually muesli and berries. Lunch is a medium sized more complicated meal, dinner is small like soup and bread. I eat it early too - at 5pm and don't eat until breakfast. So I am very hungry at breakfast time 😅

Hi Miwa I was wondering if you have a recipe for tempeh? It is a fermented soy product simulator in taste to Natto.

I skip breakfast, just coffee, but I don't eat much at the end of the day as well. I think mid day is my biggest meal. Kitsune udon is probably my favourite noodle dish :) And that fried seasoned tofu is so handy to have on hand. It's great through salads and in takikomi gohan or in fried rice. For breakfast, that abura age in strips and egg though the fried rice is delicious and is great for breakfast.
I really try during the week to have meal prepped breakfast and if possible some lunch as well. It makes mornings so much easier as well as having variety in the morning.

00:34 - the subtitles reminded me of a hilarious incident. I spent some college years as an international student in Japan and a classmate asked me if we have seasons in Canada (Canada is just as far north, if not farther, than Japan and our summer and winter extremes are life threatening). And I’m thinking … okay it’s just one person, who doesn’t know that seasons don’t stop happening outside Japanese borders.
But 2 decades later I see this subtitle that instantly triggered that memory. Now I’m wondering if it’s a coincidence or a held belief in Japan that seasons are exclusive to them and if so, how widespread is it?

    • @MiwasJapaneseCooking
      @MiwasJapaneseCooking  6 місяців тому

Thank you for sharing your memories! I believe there are seasons in other countries too as I see other people's commeny^^ but in Japan, I guess we especially like to address and embrace it.

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking - just thought of this hypothesis - its no secret that seasonality is deeply ingrained in Japanese culture. Perhaps so deep that scientific aspect of it is an afterthought?
Anyway, I apologize for detracting from the main topic. The autumn meals introduced in the video certainly do look cozy, will have to give a try!! I learned the concept of ichiju-sansai from your videos and practice it occasionally when the mood hits!

Maybe, the foxy (kitsune) colours - reddish orange colours and creamy white colours ( udon) is why it is called Kitsune Udon Soup?!

I really enjoy having soup for breakfast. This is not a typical US way of eating, but I find a bowl of soup in the morning is a wonderful way to start my day with good nutrition. I make soup with many vegetables and usually add lentils or beans. Someday I hope to travel to Japan and try lots of vegan Japanese food.
