- Let me share the traditional Japanese breakfast recipe my great grandma was eating 100 year's ago!
I grow up in Japanese family and my great grandma was living in next door. We often ate Japanese breakfast together. the Japanese breakfast she was eating is a lot different from what we enjoy in Japan nowadays.
It's based on fish, seaweed and vegetables. as you can imagine, it's way healthier than modernized Japanese breakfast on 2021!
I hope you will get some healthy eating inspirations!
Thank you very much for stopping by!

Thank you very much for watching!!
Everything Miwa San does is EPIC!!
@@Maplecook Thank you so much Maplecook san!!!! Everything you cook is so tasty though!!
Simple and epic!
totally great. Im trying to cut out meat completely and your recipes are in inspiration .....Should I thank you or your grandma hahahahahaha
@@nickbonzer haha! maybe to my grandma😁😁she should be so happy to hear this!thank you🙏✨
I'm sensing a pattern! No fried foods. Lots of vegetables! Less processed foods. Japanese living looks so healthy
And it's so very very simple. I've switched my diet alot since Sept 2020 and eastern style cuisines have been helping me with weight loss and overall body healht
Less processed carbs, more fermented foods
This is not typical in Japan. Japanese living can be as unhealthy as US living. There are many fried foods and processed foods in Japan.
Agree with you

My compliments to your Grandmother for having such a loving granddaughter. This was very precious to watch.
We started eating Japanese style breakfasts a few months back and just love it. Loved hearing about your grandmother. Full makeup and a kimono everyday? Wow!
wow! I would love to see your style of Japanese breakfast! So happy to hear it!
I can't imagine myself having full make-up when I become 95... haha
I don't even put much make-up now in 30s.... haha
thank you for your comment Naomi!
Japanese omelettes....Yum! 🥰
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking You should warn westerners about this being so carb heavy. A lot of people in the Americas mostly drive and don't walk and exercise that much so eating a diet that is mostly carbs can be very bad for them!
@@feifongwong4138 the standard American diet has many more carbs than a bit of rice, tofu and some vegetables, much of those carbs is sugar, even something as plain as bread is sweet in America...eating Japanese food would be an improvement, lol
@@YamiKisara Oh trust me, I'm not condoning the average American diet lol
No wonder your grandmother lived so long! I really admire how she took care of her health and always made sure she looked nice even if she had nowhere to go. I think with the pandemic, many of us have been wearing pjs and sweatpants for too long.
My grandfather was Chinese and he also lived till his late 90’s. He was pescatarian, and would always drink one bowl of herbal soup before dinner. He would wake up at 5am every day and do Tai Chi. Your video reminded me a lot of my grandfather! Thank you!
I'm on the side of people who wear pjs al the time if I don't have any. so I totally agree! haha
Thank you very much mooncake!
It looks like the same foods we eat in the countryside with my grandma in the Philippines. We had a porridge cooked in Coconut milk. Added a little bit salt or cane sugar. Then, we had homemade made cacao chocolate drinks or homemade roasted rice or coffee. Or we had boiled Plantain, sweet potato, or Cassava. Eaten with broiled dried fish or fried dried fish. Sometimes, plain cooked rice with fried eggs.
Healthy breakfast made by grandma's in the morning.
Love Japanese cooking. Healthy organic foods.
Thanks for sharing your videos. Take care.

Mt grandmother passed away in 2014, seeing a video of someone honoring a (great) grandmother with sharing a typical made she used to make it beautiful to see. Inspired me to try and recreate one of the dishes that she always made for our family during Easter back home. Very nice video.
that's a lovely memory!! thank you for sharing !
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful memory!
thank you very much for your kind word Vicki!!😊🙏
I did the math, your great grandmother was born in 1896, no wonder she was so traditional. I love hearing about her personality and habits and I’m really excited to try her breakfast thank you for sharing.
Vegetables are top tier, love the appreciation for them in the video!

The way she talks about her great grandma 🥺
Light delicious food and an interesting story. Thanks for sharing
I already watched this video twice!! Such a lovely clip to learn about Japanese culture.
thank you very much for your kind comment Shake! the house in the video is a typical traditional Japanese house! If you ever come to Japan in the future, please stay at Ryokan for the experience!
I've been trying to learn more about plant-based Asian food and your channel has been so helpful and lovely. Thank you (:
Thank you for sharing the special moments with your grandma.
Thank you very much for your kind word😊🙏
This was a great watch. My granddad wasn't Japanese but was definitely an enthusiast of Japanese food. He liked to make these types of dishes and I think this food really changes the way your day starts. Starchy sugary cereals don't leave me feel energized the way some good rice and veggies do.
Your skin is nothing short of amazing 😍😍 What you eats truly reflected in your skin and hair
So awesome seeing you get more viewers. Love your videos! Keep up the great work! Thank you!!!
Thank you for showing us something traditional ✨️ 🙏. I'm very interested about longevity in the Japan and this video was great along with recipes. Please do more traditional type of cooking and portion control.
Thank you for sharing this.
thank you great grandma! great breakfast
Such a blessing! Health in a bowl. I used to eat the Macrobiotic diet for an illness, and I now see that its pattern is just plain Japanese cooking from olden days.
Thank you so much! I have gone back to eating my Japanese breakfast Vegan version. When you speak of your grandmother it reminds me of my Japanese Grandmother ( we called her Bachan) I lived with her during my University days in Japan my home stay family was right next door just like your's. We always sat together and had those golden conversations! she always waited until I came back from my part time work ( aru baito) and then we had some ocha after ofuru before bed. She always taught me of everything about life and those good conversations always stayed with me!!! she also made my and my home stay sister's breakfast box ( bento box ) before Uni early in the morning! I really miss her now that I'm back in Australia! I haven't seen her for couple of years ! she's in her late 80's now! she's still Genki and going strong :) Thank you for this video xx
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories and recipes. I love the clean and healthy eating that your family has carried on throughout your generations. I would love to eat this kind of food if I can find all of the ingredients.
So beautiful story and wonderful recipe. Thanks
This is so relaxing to watch!
Oh I loved this! Can't wait to try these recipes. ❤
Thank you very much for your kind word!🙏
I loved sharing the precious memories of your grandmother. It made me think of my own grandmothers. Wouldn't it be wonderful to share a meal with them once more.
yes, I wish I could share the meal together just like you told me! Thank you very much !!
Everything seems so delicate and prepared with care.
No rushing to add ingredients or items to the pot.
Everything has to wait until it's time.
This goes against the modern trend of rushing, seems we've all forgotten how to sit down to enjoy a meal, that's why it's so precious.
You must miss your grandmother when you sit down to enjoy this meal, I know I would.
Thank you for sharing this. It seems like food is connected to so many memories and experiences, especially when passing along recipes or having favorite dishes to eat with your relatives. I have been trying to make some Japanese-style meals, and I agree, the variety of taste and texture makes you satisfied without needing large portions. It takes longer to prepare, but is more of an experience to eat, and helps you enjoy each part of the meal instead of eating quickly for the sake of having food. I will try some of your recipes!
This is awesome! Older Taiwanese also used to eat this way, I also learned to eat rice porridge in the morning. I usually do combinations of 香米, 芋香米, 糙米 or any brown rice, white rice, millet, wheat, and red&black rice, sometimes adding taro, pumpkin, sweet potato, water chestnuts, lotus root... this I've learned from old-fashioned Buddhist Taiwanese cooks. But my favourite is just plain fragrant brown rice, Taiwanese organic rice that smells like heaven! It feels so healthy and filling, especially in winter! I usually soak it in the rice cooker right before I sleep and turn it on as soon as I wake up, around 5, it cooks for 20 minutes or so then sits for an hour, and it's so creamy, doesn't feel like brown rice at all! Rice cooker is such a time saver! In summer it's too hot, so I've switched to regular fluffy rice or other foods like avocado toast, but I'm looking forward to going back to my Japanese/Taiwanese staples. Thank you for the inspiration! I will try it!
Your love for your great grandmother comes shining through. Thank you for sharing this beautiful breakfast 🥰

Thank you very much for your comment Smita!! I'll try to make more of recipe / life type of contents!
Epic breakfast!! I am so bored of normal western breakfast. I love rice and soups and veggies for breakfast. Keeps my blood sugar stable during the day, and I don't overeat later in the day if I have a nce breakfast like this one! 🌿
I felt exactly the same!!! when I was doing low carb, I often binge eating. but once I start to eat more rice, It holds me up a lot longer! and my digestion got better too! I'm so glad you do the same!! Thank you very much for your comment as always!!
so agree with you on that .......
Our body need starch and glucose to feed our brain. Starting your day well like us Asians do, and you’ll kick start your metabolism.
Epic breakfast
You know you're allowed to eat whatever you want whenever you want
I will have to make these recipes. They look so yummy! Thank you!

Your knife was so nice, I ordered one. Thank you! I like all of your Japanese breakfasts. I like to hear the sounds of the preparation so no background music is what I prefer. I will have a look at your other links! And I am very happy to hear you say Itadakimas! So special.
This is so lovely! When I lived in the same city as my parents, I would drive about an hour to their house every Sunday for brunch. They would cook a full American breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon, etc. or Eggs Benedict. It was so delicious, but more than that, I loved being able to spend time with them. It was our special thing (I still enjoy it when I visit them during the year). This video reminds me of those times. Food brings us together and is the heart of a family.
-ohhh such a lovely time you had with your family! Thank you for sharing!
this looks so goooooood 🥺
