Maya: Let's Get Dressed

- We won't get dressed exactly. Take this video as an approach to dress a character, not as a total success. Let me explain:
nCloth is a dynamic system. It's based on force fields, not on deterministic animation with keyframes. That's why the outcome of your project shows a female character walking, and the cape we made for her, falling off as she walks.
So this is the process I demonstrate in this tutorial: We introduce a character, auto rig it, apply motion capture data from another character to it. Then we create a cape with a hole for the neck and let it fall down and cover the character's front and back. We set the initial state so that the simulation starts from there. When we activate the walking mocap animation, the cloth follows.
It's your job to change the dynamic attributes of the cloth in order to make it fall properly. This tutorial lends you a hand until there.

omg that cracked me up, I loved this though really insightful, cheers
Thank you for the tutorial 🙂
clean video, nice and thanks
How do i stop the cloth and the character from clipping?
the tutorial is very useful for me..
pretty straight forward wow i like it
Your channel is wonderful, only relevant content, I had some doubts hahaha !! Dude, about the thickness of the clothes, can you have it or not? Does it hinder animation if the clothes are thick? Does wheight paint have to be inside and out? Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge.
cloth with thickness, my friend, is tricky. i have not really tried it out.
I just don't understand the problem I'm having. I'm using the Ultimate Bony rig and have a cape attached to it. When I try to animate Bony to walk, the cape doesn't move with him. The points I connected the cape with just stretch, but the cape stays in place and no longer billows; just stays frozen for the most part.
could you try contacting the AREA for this? ua-cam.com/video/f1WKbpokcmk/v-deo.html
I want just to know the différente movements is it you who created it or it should be in maya
great video!
yeah I tried everything I could think of even increased the gravity and it's still falling in super slow motion
After watching this I feel more depressed 😢
Great video! Is this suitable for clothes on a character to be used in a game, or is it not viable? The performance for this number of polys seems abysmal.
Usually low poly games skinweight their clothes with the body but I'm not entirely sure you can't use n cloth.
Hello!I find this tutorial very helpful! I am an animator , and i am trying to animate a rig woman with a half skirt long.Would you perhaps consider a tutorial explaning how to attach the up skirt to the body and how to readjust the setting for a nice dynamic? I really need help!!! Thank you so much!! :)
hi aleksandra, thanks for your feedback! i cannot give support, and i create tutorials only to my taste, because i need to do them in my free time, for personal pleasure. for support, pls consult the AUTODESK MAYA AREA or a facebook MAYA group.

Why is it clipping all over the place?
audio clipping? camera clipping?
How can I get those animations for my characters?
the mocapExamples have been moved online, but you can download them and then import into maya. The link to the download page is inside your maya installation folder, at 'examples' or something similar :D
Which software is this
Autodesk Maya
