    Glad you are discovering the Wheel of Time. The book series is amazing and the show is a pretty good attempt to transfer this rich world and the characters to the screen.
    WARNING! Don't google or search for much info as there are spoilers all over the place. Also steel yourself for the bookcloaks who I'm sure you will be hearing from ( Book Series Fans who hate the show and it's adaptation choices... and who make it their mission to sour others and stop people watching it).

    Enjoyed listening to your reactions here ... a common complaint from "book fans" who didn't like the show was that non-readers wouldn't have understood various things because they weren't explained in enough detail, but your comments were very perceptive and mostly right on the mark

    There are animated shorts that should be under extras or somewhere under the series that explain the backstory a lot more. Rather difficult to put all the info you get out of a massive epic fantasy into 8 episode series so they can definitely help someone not familiar with the world.

    Delighted to see new WoT reacts! I'll be watching the rest.
    Animated Wheel of Time Origins shorts have been mentioned. They help with some of the book-like worldbuilding backdrop that are harder to fit into scenes in the show. Upon first airing, they were released 1 short per live-action episode. So I'd suggest you take them like that. (Breaking of the World, Fall of Manetheren, Greatest Warder, Saidin Saidar Stone, White Tower, Ogier's Longing)
    Season 2 September 1st. We'll probably be getting a trailer inside a month's time.

    first of all welcome to my favourite fantasy series of all time with the most amazing world building ever! Its fascinating watching you enjoy it, and shows that although they have changed to story somewhat to fit the medium and the reduced time they will have ( 14 very big books into hopefully 8 seasons) they have managed to get a lot of the main points of the plot across. You've grasped in one episode some very important things going forward . I hope you enjoy the rest of the season as much as i did ( even the last 2 episodes that were rewritten due to covid and other issues )

  • @MrMalchore
    @MrMalchore Рік тому +20

    The show had all kinds of production interuptions during filming for season 1. (Mostly due to COVID stuff, in a foerign country.) You'll start to notice "oddness" with the story starting at Episode 7. Don't fault the show for this - they really had no choices and had to re-write the last two episodes very quickly.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Рік тому +3

      Yeah, that's the 1 negative about season one is that they were filming right when covid restrictions started happening and it severely fucked up their ability to be able to story-tell effectively... And so the writing is really really weird at the very end of the season because I think at the time they could have like a maximum of two actors acting within close proximity to each and so the group scenes that had been planned to be filmed they physically couldn't do it anymore do to those very sudden restrictions being put upon the on set rules. and so they had to rewrite it ...and it sucked to see happen... But it really really wasn't anyone's fault and it was just the world was imploding for everyone in every profession at that time. I think what they did manage to scrounge together was alright ... Not as amazing as it could have been, obviously... but it was OKAY for the unfortunate cards that they have been dealt... But when you compare the beginning of the season to the end of the season the quality of writing disintegration is unfortunately very obvious. I'm really really hoping for a smoother narrative in season 2!

      @chrisdewfall7920 Рік тому +1

    Welcome to the journey! You are so very astute and pick up on a lot. Cant wait to watch you experience the rest of the season/the books if you do decide to read them. One thing I will mention is that the wheel of time is a masterwork of unreliable narrators. Often you may be told something that a character believes is true, but that doesnt necessarily mean it is. Something to keep in mind :) onto the next episode now!

    I'm a long time book fan, and I really did love the first season, with understanding they had a lot of production issues. I dont hold it against them. That being said, I don't know anyone personally who hasn't read the books but watched the show. I LOVE watching reaction videos from folks who know nothing of the books. You don't have the ability to compare this to the books, so youre completely unspoiled and you can see the show for what it is, an adaption, and great show! I think it's great! I'll definitely be subscribing and I'll watch every video! Then hopefully you'll watch season 2 with us when it starts September 1st!

  • @kylefrandsen2665
    @kylefrandsen2665 Рік тому +5

    The first season was plagued with issues due to the COVID pandemic causing travel restrictions, actors not able to get to Czechoslovakia, locations being closed and an actor leaving toward the end of filming causing a last-minute rewrite. There are some very big, divisive, differences between the filmed series and the book series, but I'm going to stay neutral on those here. Amazon created some gorgeous animated "Origin stories" but originally buried them in the "Extras". They do flesh out the filmed series, so I think they're a mandatory part of the experience. Season 2 premiers September 1st 2023.
    The book series is ~10,000 pages, 14 books with ~3,000 named characters. Some characters appear once and are never seen again. Some disappear for a couple books, then reappear and there may not be any reminder that you've met them before. I've read it multiple times and still have trouble with the names. If you look in the glossary, you may see spoilers, so you may want to take notes. It's also a spread out world with several kingdoms and a lot of travelling between. I suggest getting a cheap wall map and some colored pins. I know this seems like uber-nerd OCD, but the series is really a commitment of several months, if not a year. You may as well make it as rich an experience as you can get. Granted, I've never done it. But, having just completed a full series re-read a few months ago, I made a mental note to myself to do it next time.

    Welcome to the WoT community!
    Word of warning about Spoilers, Do Not Google WoT!
    The book series has been finished for a decade, and while we were waiting for new books people wrote full thesis about mysteries, who did what, is this character actually another character in disguise, etc!
    About the Characters, someone did a breakdown and there's around 2700 named characters with at least some small story arc (even if just a page or three) and the full book series is longer than Game of Thrones (current number of books), full Harry Potter, the Bible, Pride and Prejudice and some other books combined! Not all are important and not all will make it to the end, the showrunner said before the show was released that it would be impossible to do the full gallery of characters so they have merged some, skipped some or limited the scope of some to save on budget.
    During the intro I noticed that you stopped to read something, was that on the Prime webbpage? Because sometimes if you pause the video on Prime there is a small "Read more here"-button. I realize it kinda breaks the immersion to stop the episode to read, but the world is vast and there's loads of world building information that they don't have time to explain in the show (at least not yet, even by the end of Season 1). So it might be something to keep in mind, if they introduce new terms to go back and see if there's one of those "Read More"-buttons.
    If you want to know more, to avoid spoilers you should probably limit yourself to the Prime page for the show, the Origins they released along with each episode and those "Learn More"-things during each episode.
    You will find plenty of Nay-sayers in regards to this adaptation. Part of it are people who dislike any deviation from the books, even if it would havemade a very wierd and boring show. For example, in the books Perrin doesn't have a wife. Others are just into the ragebait and hating the diversity. People were downvoting the show even before the first episode aired because they had people of color in prominent roles, as well as Rafe (the Showrunner) being a gay man. I'd say the actors and actresses are really amazing and they follow the Book-characters pretty well, but there are aspects that you will have already encountered (since you said that you have already seen the first three episodes) where a certain physical feature was so distinct that it would identify the person to only one group of people in the world, and suddenly there are people with all different typsed of physical attributes.
    As others have mentioned, the show did suffer from Covid starting. They had to stop and go home, their VFX-team was hit badly as well, one actor decided to not go back to the show as they were finally allowed to keep shooting, they were not let back to the locations they had planned, they were not allowed all the extras they wanted. One scene in particular had to be re-written on the same day of shooting because new Covid restrictions had been announced earlier that same day..
