Hi Jonathan, I find your penetrating discussions with distinguished guests like this one with Prof Felshtinsky enlightening, thoughtful and refreshingly honest. Thank you very much.

a lot of Italians have a pathologic suspicion againt anything American. They rather believe any form of Russian desinformation or Marxist bullshit than accepting that it was America and the American economic system who built up Italy after WWII and made it into the prosperous country it is today, albeit all troubles that certainly exist. Italy is still among the richest countries on earth. Italy's GDP alone is larger than that of all of Russia. And the whole European Union has a GDP ten times larger than the Russian Federation (*10!). There is no need that we let ourselves get bullied by Russia. Part of this thinking comes out of the extreme right tradition (the Americans destroyed our beautiful little fascist state, that we had under Mussolini), part of this comes from the extreme left tradition (Italy had the largest communist party in Western Europe). I cannot imagine Russia purposely setting out to engage in an outright war with NATO. Whatever may be their words of pride and bluster, Putin and his top officials must surely understand that Russia's position vis-a-vis NATO is incomparably worse than it was in, say, the 70's, when Russia was much bigger, far more populous, had more allies, and had a military that may well have been superior to that of the West in both numbers and technology in the dispiriting days after Vietnam War. If anything, the invasion of Ukraine and Georgia etc. shows that nations unaffiliated with NATO or without other strong allies are those most at risk of attack, and talk of a Russian push on the Baltic states or Poland is just alarmist nonsense. If any real danger exists of WWIII occurring in Europe, it comes chiefly from the danger of some accident of war drawing the West in, such an errant missile killing many Westerners, or from the war in Ukraine getting out of hand, with some abject massacre occurring or some terror weapon deployed. The best way to avoid a future war with Russia would be for Ukraine to cede Crimea and some other territory already controlled by Russia and incorporating what is left of Ukraine into the EU and NATO right away, with NATO troops moving in on the first day of peace and establishing permanent bases there. Thereafter would come a settling down of the entire situation -- albeit sanctions could be continued as usual, and the West could intensify its disengagement with all things Russian. This peace would come at the cost of Russia declaring some form of victory, and the loss of the territory mentioned. Ukrainians in the lost regions would also no doubt suffer greatly. But peace, like war, is seldom free. Strengthened by a closer bond with West -- and indeed nearly fully integrated -- Ukraine could hope to yet regain its lost land should Russia completely falter and disintegrate, as many predict. I do not necessarily recommend a push for peace. Indeed I would be vehemently against it should Russia object to Ukraine fully and immediately joining the West after a cessation of hostilities. But the danger and costs of a war to the bitter end to liberate the lost Ukrainian land by force of arms should be realistically considered, and balanced against a sober assessment of the benefits and costs of peace -- which do not realistically include a resumption of fighting by Russia against any land protected by the NATO guarantee of mutual military assistance.
I'm German myself. The Germans have since the second WW grown up with a very naïve version of pacifism that fundamentally blurs out the possibility that anyone else could be a terrible as Hitler was and that what happened in Germany in the 1930's and 40's was a uniquely German phenomenon - and most importantly that it should never be repeated. Part of the latter dogma is that as long as Germany remains pacifist - i.e. none militarist - nothing can happen. We still assume / see ourselves as the only real potential for a new disaster. To highlight this there was, and still is a discussion going on in Germany if it is morally right for German weapons to be used against Russians after everything we did to them in WWII. This completely ignores the fact that the tables have turned and we are now facing a new if not identical incarnation of Hitler sitting in the Kremlin. Compounding this is the fact that Germans are extremely comfortable financially and have grown complacent of the fact that democracy and peace sometimes has to be fought for. It does not come free of charge. Sorry for the long post but couldn't compress it more! :)

Request for future topic: A deep dive on Nikolai Patrushev - Putin's right hand man and crisis manager during Prigozhin coup, and suspected by many to be the brains behind Putin. No one ever talks about him.
In a way he certainly influenced Putin's ideas. Novorossija is a religion of death. I'll add my preferable and contraversial topic: traitor's in the US goverment or "west" in general. Starting from Mike Johnson, who turns out got handily sponsored by at least 3 Russian oligarchs, notably Konstantin Nikolayev, on personal sanction's list and close to Kremlin. Problem with anything close to Kremlin and its agents is the apparent absence of reliable information. We should shed a light on that network, because people are in the dark and don't know who they're voting for or where their infobubble comes from. I'm nowhere near America and see that large part there are clueless.
Indeed, Patrushev is kind of RU's grey cardinal of national security for decades. Very nationalistic, unscrupulous, anti West figure. Is said to have played a key role in many violent decisions, among others the annexation of Crimea, the invasion of Ukraine and the blow up of Prigozhin's plane.
I’m Latvian. I can only say thank you for your broad range of interweaves you have on your channel. And whilst I’m in my 40s, I’ll always stand by and with my fellow neighbours - Estonians and Lithuanians. I’m hearing a lot from various sources that Baltic’s will be invaded. I'm from Finland and used to know a Latvian. I learned what Latvians went through and still go through because of Russian colonialism. It was heartbreaking. Many of us also know Estonians and read Estonian literature on their story... Our own struggle against USSR invading pales in comparison to the plight of the whole Baltic region during and after those times. I truly hope that now in NATO Finland would show up for you guys.

I'm afraid this man has the most realistic view of the situation.. as someone who was in Russia when Putin came on the scene and I've watched things and been there for years in Russia and Ukraine.
Excellent guest..he spoke so eloquently and chimes in with so much foreboding im currently feeling.. I also think the Putin regime attitude to thier imperialist project is one of its better to burn out than fade away!..there is no point burying our heads in the sand,if WWI and WWII were accurately forecast and foreseeable then they wouldn't have happened and become the huge problem they were.I fear the longer we take in giving Ukraine our full support the much larger the problem becomes and *is* already becoming.
Dr. Felshtinsky is completely correct - it would be unthinkable for Britain to try to reclaim even all of Ireland in the name of empire. The UN ambassador from Kenya was the first to call out Russia’s imperialistic motives in Ukraine after Feb 24, 2022. He knew what he was looking at from painful past experience. Dr. Felshtinsky is also 100% correct that Russian cultural figures excelled not because of the state, but despite the state.
From the thousands who fled when their country invaded their peaceful neighbour, there is mainly silence. Only a tiny few speak out from their comfortably safe new homes. Freedom comes with responsibility. Where are the sanctions against those who turn a blind eye and silent mouth to the atrocities their people commit in their neighbour’s home?

It’s how did the gun men evade even getting into the concert hall. Why where the sprinklers turned off, why was the metal detectors closed, why no one was searched on entry which was the norm , the guards freely let everyone in . On every few yards on every street that has facial recognition, if you walked into any public place just holding a blank sheet of paper, would be pounced upon within a minute. This gang got out of there car no one was suspicious, every stop corner face recognition cameras . Why was the sprinklers switched off number 1 What was the metal detectors also not on line ? Guards always search you prior to entry , again not done. The Guards just opened up and just let every one in. No security were killed ?????? How did the incendiaries work so fast bringing down the ceiling . They all got away, in the most oppressive police force on the planet . Why did it take a min of 30 minutes to arrive, an hr and a half before they were sent in, for a country with high policing and in of all places Moscow ! None makes sense, how did they escape ? They said they were heading to Ukraine, it’s the most guarded area , it’s on the front line no way, heading to Belarus more likely . Now ISIS is demanding the recognition they carried out this attack, but someone close to the FBCor another group was well trained ie ISIS caused this as too many inconsistent tactics used . , but this is 100% not Ukrainian, they have spent over 2 yrs committed to not once attacked Russian civilians, unlike Russia who bombed the theatre in Mariupol who’s theatre was full of Children, they wrote in large Russian letters saying Children, unlike Russia where but the bomber didn’t care and killed them anyway including a maternity hospital, every bloody Russian should see what barbaric methods the so called army slaughtered thousands in Mariupol, they should be forced to bear witness to what their soldiers did. . If the shit hits the fan, Europe will defend all of Europe , who will go running to help The US, you leave us all out , they will be totally alone . Trump has all ready got Putin dancing of glee , Trump told Russia to do what ever it wants with NATO and think they can defend on all fronts , Middle East, Africa, Asia, this is dangerous thinking , plus there boarders . The russians were warned about the time, location and nature of this attack. Normally in such circumstances police would be on high alert ready to deploy according to a pre planned strategy to any major concert halls. How many major concert halls are there in Moscow? Any fool could've have predicted it'd be Crocus. And of course having been warned by two governments that specialize in studying Islamic terror attacks, they would screen any large audiences or crowds for weapons upon entry with perhaps pat downs or metal detectors. Surely they'd follow basic fire safety and refrain from locking thousands of people in a crowded venue. But according to survivors on VK there was no security, no weapons check and they were locked in. As for a timely pre planned arrival of the police a whole 87 minutes passed before arrival. The police station is minutes away. Look at the map. By that time the terrorists had managed to travel hundreds of kilometres from Moscow, arguably the most heavily surveilled and policed city extant. Either they let this atrocity occurr or were negligent beyond imagination. The Kremlin is partially responsible here not Ukraine, not the fascists nor the CIA or whatever tales they may spin.
I heard from UA-camr,"Inside Russia" that the Crochus C.H. center has a large police station adjacent to it. If true, that would have huge implications. Can anyone confirm this?
I heard that broadcast as well. I have heard from other sources that metal detectors were not working, not that it would have mattered, I also heard emergency exits were locked but I can not confirm these reports. It does seem very suspicious that the perpetrators got away when such a large event was taking place. I would think there would be some police presence at a venue such as this where there is not only a music arena but also stores, restaurants, etc.
Yes. There’s government district of moscow oblast less than 2 miles away. It’s heavily monitored and secured area full of riot and all kinds of police and special forces as any autocratic regime would have. On top of it, just moscow alone has 200 000 live cameras in public places with face recognition feature. Not a mouse can escape or sneak in weapons with metal detectors being everywhere including concert halls and similar venues.
Yes, search - Omon Gu Rosgvardii Po Gorodu Moskve - on Google Maps, north up the road is Crocus. Your eyes will pop out. It's an OMON SWAT / Rosgvardia station.
There were apparently some security guards who were casualties. What was conveniently absent for an entire hour were the SWAT team, despite the fact that the police station is only a couple miles away from Crocus (literally right next to each other!), meaning the terrorists got away and were only caught near the border of Belarus.
It was interesting to hear Yuri describe how Russia persecuted and destroyed thier own intellectuals and artists.. not just something that they did to Ukrainians and thier other colonies.
It took the special services one and a half hours to get to the music venue in one of the most surveillance conscious cities in the World, when the special services were only nine minutes away, that seems very suspicious.
Your guest, Dr Yuri brings an enlightened revelation to Russians' mindset . Definitely got to buy his books Loved the interview Great work from the both of you
His strong suspicion that trump is colluding with putin and orban really hit me hard. Here across the pond to suggest such a thing would be considered possible by a few, doubtful by many, and probably approved by MAGA.
2:05 Speaking of «terrible scale of tragedy» turns the Muscovites into victims, which is not true. Every single poll shows the total majority of Muscovites does support the invasion of Ukraine and the genocide of Ukrainians. Moreover, this particular concert showcased a Muscovite band Piknik that also supported the war and crowdfunded money for the Muscovite army, which speaks everything about their audience, dead or alive.
After such a comment, from someone who probably considers himself a democrat, a fighter for human rights, freedom, justice, I can only say...Putin, you are too soft. Hypocrites. Behind the mask of fighters for democracy and "our way of life" is only mindless hatred of Russians.
What a normal human being! Mr Felshtinsky very naturally dealt with all topics but more importantly, he reflected insights and common sense. An interview where you feel you can't afford to miss anything as he allow the audience to better understand the position Russians are in, as well as the real governing forces behind decisions taken ❤

Russia has no movement from Kaliningrad or Baltic Sea any longer, and are overextended in Ukraine, as well as putting out multiple fires everyday inside Russia, and now the ISIS problem getting much louder and which will only keep repeating itself. After cessation of war in Ukraine, however it plays out it'd take 5-6 years for Russia to rebuild for any realistic attack on the Baltics and by then would be so heavily outgunned by NATO forces in east Europe and NE flank, Russia would be neutered in any incursion to the Baltics. Seems it's people regurgitating something they hear online with little actual understanding or knowledge.

Request for future topic: A deep dive on Nikolai Patrushev - Putin's right hand man and crisis manager during Prigozhin coup, and suspected by many to be the brains behind Putin. No one ever talks about him.
I would enjoy that as well. I wonder if Mark Galeotti mighr be a good guest for that or Mr. Felshtinsky as a return guest.
He has a psychic working for him who told him madelaine allbright was plotting to invade siberia.
Indeed, Patrushev is kind of RU's grey cardinal of national security for decades. Very nationalistic, unscrupulous, anti West figure. Is said to have played a key role in many violent decisions, among others the annexation of Crimea, the invasion of Ukraine and the blow up of Prigozhin's plane.
he's bang on about it all
I’m Latvian. I can only say thank you for your broad range of interweaves you have on your channel.
And whilst I’m in my 40s, I’ll always stand by and with my fellow neighbours - Estonians and Lithuanians. I’m hearing a lot from various sources that Baltic’s will be invaded. I hope not as Russia is not a new World ruler.
👍👍👍
I'm from Finland and used to know a Latvian. I learned what Latvians went through and still go through because of Russian colonialism. It was heartbreaking. Many of us also know Estonians and read Estonian literature on their story... Our own struggle against USSR invading pales in comparison to the plight of the whole Baltic region during and after those times.
I truly hope that now in NATO Finland would show up for you guys.
Thank you for a superb interview.
As always, and excellent interviewee, and I really appreciate you staying in touch with the important voices.... it's not too hard to spot them, and repetition will reach more minds, and have an impact on perceptions.
I just hope the minds that need reaching / are reachable, would hurry TF up and open their minds wider.
Jonathan, you really do extraordinary, and selfless work sir! .
Thank you
Loads to think about, as always.
If only our politicians had the necessary determination to push back now and with all might.
Your worth more than a battalion now Johnathan. Your a 'Johny Seven Gun. One man army'. Seriously, massive achievement, can't salute you enough, thank you for every video.
👍👍👍 thanks for your support!
I'm afraid this man has the most realistic view of the situation.. as someone who was in Russia when Putin came on the scene and I've watched things and been there for years in Russia and Ukraine.
thanks.. i thought so too, although i have never set foot in Russia
I bought the last book of Felshtinsky, and I think it´s the best book about the war on Ukraine and the forecast he does are completely right.
Excellent guest.
I think im going to read one or two of Mr Felshtinskys books, he really seems to have deep insights on Putins mindset
Thanks, Jonathan.
Valuable interview.
Dr. Felshtinsky is also 100% correct that Russian cultural figures excelled not because of the state, but despite the state.
very good conversation with a person who knows the stuff. Thank you.
Thanks!
¡Gracias!
Great interview! Opened my eyes a bit.

Super interview
Another great interview! It’s a great pleasure to follow you! This channel deserves a million subscribers!!
fantastic guest!
Putin as a puller of strings? Yes, but he could well entangle himself in these strings.
Thank you very much for bringing to light all these extraordinary people you have been talking to!

The Akerlof adverse selection problem: The more harshly a dictator punishes betrayal, the lower the ability of those seeking to work for him. Of course, in a dictatorship most punishment must be harsh, thus the feedback loop of incompetence and corruption.
That seems to be it.

Dr. Felshtinsky thank you for this excellent and enlightening conversation. Your erudition and deep knowledge of Russia is palpable. I hope that President Biden and Chancellor Scholz hear this. I feel the whole world is now living in the craziness of one of those Russian novels and this includes America even though the American gov. still seems to think that they can be a great power but withdraw from world events.
Thank you for explaining what Moldova is for Romania, historically speaking. I don’t t know about reunification but is good to know the history. ❤
In 1812 ruzzia took about half of the Romanian Principality of Moldova. Then many Romanians from the annexed area were taken to Siberia and some ruzzians were brought there. Typically ruzzians.
Jonathan.. It would so good if you could get the Polish Foreign Minister Sokorski on for a chat..
Yet again, both-side-ism from the BBC. I loved Yuri's book btw. Quite a tough read, but incredibly illuminating.
Why was the sprinklers switched off number 1
What was the metal detectors also not on line ?
Guards always search you prior to entry , again not done.
The Guards just opened up and just let every one in. No security were killed ??????
How did the incendiaries work so fast bringing down the ceiling . They all got away, in the most oppressive police force on the planet . Why did it take a min of 30 minutes to arrive, an hr and a half before they were sent in, for a country with high policing and in of all places Moscow ! None makes sense, how did they escape ?
They said they were heading to Ukraine, it’s the most guarded area , it’s on the front line no way, heading to Belarus more likely . Now ISIS is demanding the recognition they carried out this attack, but someone close to the FBCor another group was well trained ie ISIS caused this as too many inconsistent tactics used . , but this is 100% not Ukrainian, they have spent over 2 yrs committed to not once attacked Russian civilians, unlike Russia who bombed the theatre in Mariupol who’s theatre was full of Children, they wrote in large Russian letters saying Children, unlike Russia where but the bomber didn’t care and killed them anyway including a maternity hospital, every bloody Russian should see what barbaric methods the so called army slaughtered thousands in Mariupol, they should be forced to bear witness to what their soldiers did. .
I think that this had to be an inside job, to encourage more poor sods into the meat grinder.
As for Trump he is a traitor he gave away many top secrets to his buddy 💩 tin , 💩 tin is planing on a Trump victory, this will be a very sad moment, as America selling its soul to the devil that being Putin.
If Russia is allowed to win by Trump, it will plunge Europe into a all out war , our equipment will have been looked after, Russian corruption is so rife , the Quality is a joke, just watch the very entertaining tanks explosions, I love to see how high can a Tourette fly, and when they evacuate said tanks always leaving hatches open for another how they let the drones blow up the tanks go boom and remaining weapons give great fireworks.
I’ve never been so disappointed by our alliance with the US, there stupidity has deeply effected this war, and mr speaker and Trump and his sheep have blood on there hands .
Us Brits as of today should no longer be the US lackies .
The entire Western values are at stake.

@@bigolboomerbelly4348 The glow ballistic system is based on American debt. It's falling apart. When all else fails, they take you to wore. That's America's plan. Ukraine and Israel are the current battlegrounds.
Sounds a lot like Israeli negligence on Oct. 7th...and both were Music venues....!!
I heard from UA-camr,"Inside Russia" that the Crochus C.H. center has a large police station adjacent to it. If true, that would have huge implications. Can anyone confirm this?
On blue lights it’s about 5mins Drive
100% true - if you go on Google Maps and search - Omon Gu Rosgvardii Po Gorodu Moskve - north of that up the road is Crocus
Yes, search - Omon Gu Rosgvardii Po Gorodu Moskve - on Google Maps, north up the road is Crocus. Your eyes will pop out. It's an OMON SWAT / Rosgvardia station.
were any of the Crocus security guards casualties or were they all conveniently absent when the attack began ?
No, none apparently. Rumours are they ran away.
There were apparently some security guards who were casualties. What was conveniently absent for an entire hour were the SWAT team, despite the fact that the police station is only a couple miles away from Crocus (literally right next to each other!), meaning the terrorists got away and were only caught near the border of Belarus.

It took the special services one and a half hours to get to the music venue in one of the most surveillance conscious cities in the World, when the special services were only nine minutes away, that seems very suspicious.

Great work from the both of you
His strong suspicion that trump is colluding with putin and orban really hit me hard. Here across the pond to suggest such a thing would be considered possible by a few, doubtful by many, and probably approved by MAGA.
There's no doubt that Trump is an asset of the Kremlin. I think the influence is deep within the GOP, as well.

2:05 Speaking of «terrible scale of tragedy» turns the Muscovites into victims, which is not true. Every single poll shows the total majority of Muscovites does support the invasion of Ukraine and the genocide of Ukrainians. Moreover, this particular concert showcased a Muscovite band Piknik that also supported the war and crowdfunded money for the Muscovite army, which speaks everything about their audience, dead or alive.
.. the Muscovites are very much like the concert-going Israeli supporters of genocide against the Palestinians, on Oct. 7th...
After such a comment, from someone who probably considers himself a democrat, a fighter for human rights, freedom, justice, I can only say...Putin, you are too soft. Hypocrites. Behind the mask of fighters for democracy and "our way of life" is only mindless hatred of Russians.

Ukraine is not a NATO member and NATO isn't fighting in Ukraine.
If you are questioning NATO members' willingness to adhere to Article 5 , what do you base that on?
@@puraLusaThanks. I know where we stand in the Baltics, we live it everyday, Tapa NATO base is not far from me, the build up in the past 3 years has been incredible, Swedish and Finnish troops also to join here in Estonia alongside UK battlegroup. I watch everything like a hawk including all security services and foreign relations reports.
